Hello all,
I am new to Rooting, Unlocking bootloaders n all that.
My question is simple. Hope somebody can help me out.
Is it enough to Unlock the bootloader on my HTC Thunderbolt to install a new ROM ?(Now that HTC has released bootloader unlocking from HTCDev.com for the Thunderbolt)
I want to install HTC Sense 3.5 on the phone without rooting the phone.
Is this possible ?
If so, can someone provide me a link to downloading the HTC Sense 3.5 ROM. I tries searching and I am not quite sure how to get the correct ROM which will work well. Also, I would like to have the HTC Sense 3.5 as clean as possible.
Is there any specific ROM that would give me a very clean experience ?
Can xda members also help me out on Ste-by-Step instructions to installing the new Sense 3.5 ROM to my phone ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
No you need root in order to flash a custom rom, everything you need to do so is in the stickies in the development stickies.
Well, you don't need root to flash a custom ROM, but most likely the custom ROM will have root regardless. To flash, you just need a custom recovery installed.

Hi,
I just bought an HTC Hero off eBay today (still waiting for it) and it comes from T-Mobile but it's unlocked. However, I'm looking at debranding the phone and I want to install the original HTC ROM's instead of T-Mobile's.
I've been reading these forums and there are original HTC ROM's, original HTC but rooted ROM's, custom ROM's and etc... I'm not interested in the custom ones at the moment, I just want to get the original stuff for now, but without the T-Mobile branding. Also, this way, I can always be updated with the latest changes from HTC.
As far as I understand this, I'll have to root it at least once to install a new ROM right? And after that, maybe I should install the generic but rooted HTC ROM so that in the future I have the phone rooted already and everything's easier, correct? Is this the recommend approach or should I install the latest original and untouched HTC ROM?
For now I don't see many benefits from rooting the phone, and I think I just want to make things easier by using the original HTC ROM so that in the future I can use HTC own utilities (RUU I believe) to update the phone. In other others, I'm waiting eagerly for HTC update with Android 2.0 and I just want be able to install it directly from HTC when it comes out. I'll deal with rooting and custom firmwares later if I really see the need.
So, what's the best procedure to install the latest generic HTC ROM?

I'm not sure you posted in the right thread...
Can anyone give me some hints?
I have managed to downgrade and run revolutionary to achieve a off using the htc unlock method and am halfway through upgrading to hc from HB retaining S-OFF what I was wondering is what do I have to do to upgrade to Jb can I just use dexters Jb rom and flash it using cwm?
It says I need to flash boot image separately? Does that mean I need to remove these from the zip before flashing and then flash them through the boot loader? As I have a wifi flyer is there anything else I have to do
Another question is I have wifi flyer so how can I remove phone ui?
Final question if I want to love to a different Rom what steps would I need to take? Sorry If I'm asking silly questions but this device is far more fiddley for installing custom than my previous device ( htc legend) also any suggestions of roms would be appreciated
Thanks XD
Hi guys
I'm new had my htc one x+ for a few month and love it
I just want more features etc and that
So I was told to come on here
I've been reading through and learning along the way so I'd just like someone to brake it down how to fully flash my phone
It's locked on O2 uk
I understand I need to get the phone unlocked firstly?
Get the token ID
And then flash it with a kernel?
Or a ROM is that the same thing?
I'd just like a standard android rom? I don't see any there all kind of custom are they more or less the same or are they better?
First you need to unlock your phone via www.htcdev.com/bootloader (select "all other supported models" ).
Then you can go ahead and flash a custom recovery and kernel if you wish. You'll find stock modified ROMs (e.g. ARHD) but also original android ROMs (e.g. AOSP by Lloir)
ALWAYS BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING OR DOING ANYTHING ELSE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DISCLAIMERS. THE DEVELOPER AND NO ONE ELSE, INCLUDING ME, IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE THINGS DONE BY YOU! THIS MAY INCLUDE VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY OR BRICKING YOUR PHONE!

So right off the bat I have very little knowledge of rooting and flashing roms. I did however successfully unlock, root and flash CM10 onto my AT&T HOX a few months ago. I want to try out the ViperX rom but after reading the install instructions I noticed that I needed to have HBOOT 1.31 or higher and I have 1.14. The only way to get the higher HBOOT is to have a compatible CID # from what I can tell mine isnt on the list included in the link that they posted. Is it really required? What would be my options if I wanted to change to the ViperX Rom?
Thanks in advance!

first off you are posting to the HTC One forum not the HTC One X. You are aware that flashing roms not made for your device will brick your device, right? If you have a HTC One X find out if it is the AT&T version and make your way over the the right forum. If it is the HTC One Turge confirmed on facebook that he will be making a viper rom for the HTC One. Just wait
Hi everyone. I am totally new at this. I have a HTC One S S4 . It has TWRP 2.7.1.0. The device is also S-Off-ed. Can I run ANY custom rom or does it have to be specifically for the device? I was under the impression. Now that it is S-Off i can run any rom?? I wanted to try the new HTC One rom. IDK if that is ok or not? Any input is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance

You can run any rom that is specifically stated to work with your phone. If you are updating to a higher version, you might need to flash the appropriate firmware so the radio and touch sensors work properly. So you can't use an HTC One rom, but you can use one that has been ported to your device from it.
