So I finally Got the Keyboard Dock and I got Some Questions - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Where's the scroll function on the mouse pad?
How is this not a default included function with the prime. They could have least added it as one of the feaatures added following the keyboard update.
Nothing below the horizontal line on the mouse pad (that suppose to represent the left and right-click) work at all. I have to rely on the center tap for left click and still no right-click function.
Again, not having no mouse pad scroll is pretty ridiculous. Oh and I just noticed that there's no "Home key" which made jumping to the front of the line in your sentence easy.
and wtf is up with this lag when I'm typing. Wow ASUS, I'm going to give you the benefit of doubt and hope this is all cleared up once ICS launches.

Are you for real?

The typing lag is a well known issue in honeycomb, you... human being. ICS update coming tonight at 8pm pacific time.

If right-click has no meaning in Android then why the heck does holding down the your finger on touching the tablet usually initiates a right-click menu function?
oh and I forgot to mention that selecting text in a text box is still a ***** despite the adage of the mouse with the Dock keyboard. (it's hell trying to get those green arrows to pop-up on the touch screen, it's still next too impossible with the Dock)
and yes I'm typing this from Dell XPS laptop. **** somethings I guess still require the real deal. God damn ASUS, this **** better be fixed in ICS.
For now so much for this being a Transformer to it's name.

You mad bro?

Typing from the dock now.
All you have to do is click once where you want the little green arrows to come up in a text field and it comes up. I've had no problems with this at all.
I'm not too sure why right click doesn't act as a long press, to be honest. It is like the back arrow though, so I've already gotten used to hitting that to go back from somewhere. Either way, I like the docks added functionality.

I don't understand something. Why in the world would you buy a tablet and then try to use it like a laptop? If you can't adapt to using a tablet like a tablet, then return your prime and let someone else have a chance. I know quite a few people who are still waiting for their prime.
Repeat after me. The TFP ain't no laptop. Learn to use the touchscreen, you Homosapien!

I don't know what you mean, but it took me about a day to get use to the TF netbook form. Now, I can't even go back to the laptop.
So, again, why in the world would you get the TF and intend it to use like a laptop? It's like getting a motorcycle intending to use it like a car.

your analogy is broken since a motorcycle is not advertised to transform into a car like the Transformer and Transformer Prime are advertised as tablets that easily double as a laptop/netbook.

I'm also another one having issues typing on this thing.
My issue is that occassionally the cursor will just jump to a differing place which means touch typing is out.
It's either me or a bug. Seeing as I've not seen anything posted about a similar bug I'm guessing I must be pressing somewhere when typing.
I'm slowing getting used to it however.
As for using this thing for casual typing. Thats why people buy a prime and not another tablet. It's for the keyboard so it so work flawlessly.
Its not going to replace a laptop anytime soon but for the casual forum post or note jotting it's fine.
PS this was typed on my prime keyboard

You sound like my Mom when she used to tell me to eat all my veggies because there are starving people in China. I answered her, "What, are you going to send whatever I don't eat to them?!? Fine, send THIS..."
Seriously, unless you're supposing that a returned Prime is resold as new, then WTF are you talking about?

Another thought for right click...
I get the concept of not thinking about the prime as a laptop but one of the prime reasons (bad pun, I know) I got the prime was that ICS now has native VPN support for my Cisco ASA IPSec firewall and VMWare has an app for its virtual desktop product. I can now VPN in and pull up my Win7 desktop at work from anywhere in the world from a bada$$ tablet.
This is where the right click would come in handy. I know I can drop on a bluetooth or USB mouse, but I can still see the point of the right click feature without having to use an external device.
Will it be easy to adapt one way or the other, sure will, but I can still understand the question being asked.

Once you upgrade to ICS, go to Settings>ASUS customized settings>TOUCHPAD/MOUSE>Right button behavior and set it to Show Context Menu to get a right-click function. Other choice is to ack as Back Button.
You can also change the pointer from 'Mouse cursor mode' to act like a mouse, or Gesture mode to make it simulate dragging the screen as if with your finger.
This was already mentioned in one of the early ICS threads last night. I don't have a dock yet to try it, but I did get the ICS upgrade last night and it seems to be an improvement over HC.

I think that's because your hand brushes against the touch pad, acting like a click somewhere else, and moving the text input location. If you press the button on the keyboard above the 3, it deactivates the touch pad.

I've been vpn-ing my PC at home and at work for months now. I assure you, never once have I said to myself "well, gee, I wish there's a right click button". Again, I didn't buy this tablet intending to use it like a laptop. It only took me a day to adapt to it. The last time I touched my laptop was back in April or May.
Look, when the PC was first invented, I'm sure there were people who bought the PC thinking they could use it like a typewriter. Then when the laptop came out, I'm sure there were people who bought the laptop and then *****ed that it didn't feel like a PC. You're just continuing this trend of buying a motorcycle and then ***** to the world that it doesn't drive like a car.
And about the typing issue where your cursor appears to jump around randomly, it took me a whole 30 seconds to figure out to press the 4th button from the left top row to disable the touchpad.
With all the complaints coming from the new prime members, I'm starting to feel like advertising the hell out of the ipad2 again. People want to ***** about the keyboard option? That's ok, with the ipad 2, you won't even have to deal with this problem! Wanna ***** about how hard it is to put in and take out the microsdcard? Well, if you had gotten the ipad2 you wouldn't have had to deal with this issue at all. What's that? 1 USB port isn't enough for you? Well, if you had bought the ipad2 this issue would not have come up at all. What's that? You hate your life? Well, you should have been praying to st stephen!

has anyone else had problems with cursor while typing

Ok this isn't a huge problem but it does annoy me. When I type on the phone and.if i wanna go back to fix a typo or write something else it seems very difficult to get the cursor where i want it..on the og EVO u would just tap where I wanted to type or whatever..now it seems a lot more difficult..it brings up like a green icon that you slide ..its just like the icon when you cut and paste a word..funny though as i type this it isn't doing it as bad..the thing just bounces around and moves by itself..
One cool feature about the HTC hero was the trackball. I miss that!
if you use honeycomb (edit... Gingerbread) keyboard, you can slide the spacebar up to reveal directional arrows.
...nice upgrade from hero

I'd prefer to not adapt to a design flaw. It worked perfectly fine before, I refuse to believe this is a "feature" so much as a bug as they say, one man's trash...
Yea I can't figure it out ..ill press where I want it to go and it will go there there just bounce somewhere else..it drives me nuts when typing..also I always hit the period instead of space but I guess that's my fault

Similar with Swiftkey X, you can enable arrows in the options, allowing for finer control of the cursor.
Honestly, though, the touch-based cursor control is always something that iOS has done better than Android, in my experience. Android gets close, but iOS moves the cursor very smoothly within words.

GPS Road Test after ICS

OK, so I tried the unit in the car and placed on the passenger seat. It received a signal but keep losing it. I then moved it closer to the dash by the radio and it kept the signal much better. The third scenario was I placed it lying down on the dash and it kept the signal with no problem, or loss of signal.
Conclusion on the GPS is that it is definitely better with ICS update but a stand alone GPS it is not, unless it is mounted on your win shield with some type of Mount. Problem is that it then blocks a good potion of your view.
Here is a link to the video I shot this afternoon during my drive to test the GPS function. Please dont atempt this on your own... I am a profesional http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCFoo_jMWOE&feature=youtu.be
Standing in my yard it locks on a signal within 20-30 seconds and grabs 11-13 Sat's and locks on 10-12 of them.
Now that GPS does work it makes it much more difficult to return, except that it has some minor screen bleed on the upper right side of the screen. Other than that the tablet is amazing with the update. Desisions, desisions
Two observations...
1) Your route was a short straight line. There are algorithms in most GPS s/w to compensate for signal loss. A straight line doesn't show how well the Prime was actually keeping up with the satellites.
2) The jumping and stuttering of the arrow signifying your position would indicate loss of signal.
There are some videos posted of a G-Tab using CoPilot. You'll see the difference.
Who on earth would use their tablet for a turn for turn navigation? Dont you have a smart phone? The only thing I would want GPS for is weather etc which probably wouldnt need too much of a signal

I do. And I'm tired of people that don't questioning why anyone else would. You do whatever you want. Nav s/w makers wouldn't be offering tablet-ized versions of their products if people weren't buying them.
It was meant to show people that the tablet did lock a signal. It wasn't a trip to Canada. I had absolutely no lock on Satellites before the update not in my yard and most defiantly not in my car. Now it locks without any issues, both in my car and in my yard. Some my find the information useful while others may not. Do with it as you wish.

I could give 2 craps about my GPS, but it works fine for me. My 4.6" screen on my phone is fine, when I don't want to use the nav in my car. 10" is ludicrous for my need as an in car van unit.
Thank you OP for your test that was summarily dismissed by some certain people.

I use it when I travel, both here and in Europe.
Here are the reasons:
1) The larger screen real estate gives you a greater view of where you are and what's upcoming.
2) Tablet nav s/w has a split view making turns and expressway exits easier to navigate.
3) The tablet's battery will go five times longer than my i9100's.
4) Tablets have better GPS chips and antennas than phones and (not in this case) get and keep a signal better.
5) My phone's free to use as a media player and to take BT calls.
6) I don't drain my phone's battery.
I have a stand for it with a thin bean bag bottom and it sits on the passenger seat unless I'm with someone and then they hold it.
I'm not justifying myself to you, but some might be curious what the benefits are. And I really don't care whether others use their phone, stand-alone GPS, a compass, a sextant, or Citgo maps.
NO problem, thanks for your input.

If it's unimportant to you, why are you so hell bent on convincing other people that it should be unimportant to them too? Granted, people using tablets for navigation are a minority but it was important to enough people that they returned their Prime's over it. People trying to convince others that it's unimportant are as bad as what you're accusing me of.

Sounds like the UK layout. I use the UK layout at work and I always get tripped up by that...
You need to make sure that you are using the ASUS touch keyboard. using any other will make the keys on the dock wrong. If you change the touch keyboard it gives you a warning saying that for consistency please use the ASUS keyboard.
This is a difference between UK and US English keyboards--it might be drastic, but I know you can change it if you do a factory reset and choose US or UK (whichever you prefer) when prompted. If there's an easier way then I don't know it as all the setting options seem to be locked out.

I think you will find this is true. It doesn't happen all the time but other users have also reported this. Obviously ASUS discovered this and hence why they put the warning. Like I say you can use other keyboards and 9 times out of 10 there is no issue but you may experience undesirable behaviour from time to time.

Those other reported cases have nothing to do with the software keyboard, it has everything to do with screwed up firmware on the dock.
Simply put Asus screwed the pooch all the way around.

The responses in the numerous threads on this all point to the fact that issues cleared up upon updating dock firmware, look for yourself, I won't spoon feed you the links.
Not to mention my own experience proves this out.
If you have the prime and the dock, and are using a non-standard keyboard and are having issue, what is your dock firmware version.

Gaming with USB Mouse?

Hi, I am using Jellybean AndroWook 1.3 is there any possibility to use mouse when gaming?
For first-person-shooter games keyboard&mouse are the most essential. It feels just cheap to play it through the means of the touchscreen.
IF there isn't a way, is there someone who can program a decent mouse gaming application for us with the possiblity to use USB mice on our tablet devices?
Idea, plug your mouse in, decide what's gonna happen when moving mouse( where it is gonna drag the on-screen joystick that most games have )
what position is it gonna touch when left clicking, right clicking etc... these are the only function we need.
Google, Android Developers, Please just this once! I feel so sad with this defect product you all do admit it, but just this once give us something that we truly need. A way to game with keyboard & mouse so we won't feel more ripped off more than we already do.
Would be overjoyed with any kind of response leading to a small sparkle of hope, thanks.
Here you go, a few threads down:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611309
It is kinda possible, but the way the controls are set up in the game is what dictates how it will work. Its not like you can plug in a mouse, and the game will automatically work with that. Most games are programed for touch-screens and then its quite challenging to make a mouse work for it properly.

It is NOT kind of possible, it is POSSIBLE and I quite made it clear in my post how it is possible...
I will make it more clear, and develop the idea more further so people can understand why it is possible to create an app like this for all Games/Applications.
Profiles,
The mouse application should initialize after opening the application/game profile you have already setup, when leaving the game it should return to android default.
How profile works?
Well the Mouse Application should be floating over the game/application so you can setup two HOOKING POINTS!
Hooking points?
Usually there is two Virtual Analog Sticks on the screen when playing a game,
One for moving around, - Hook One
One for looking around, - Hook Two
Of course there should be trigger points as well,
TRIGGER POINTS?
One for shooting/attacking, -Trigger Point One
One for Using Objects(etc), -Trigger Point Two
Ok so now we have all the positions we need to set this up to the events triggered by the mouse or keyboard.
EVENTS TRIGGERED BY THE MOUSE&KEYBOARD WUUT?
Moving mouse 360degrees any direction, will touch/drag the screen on POINT: Hook Two
and move it around accordingly to how you move around your mouse.
WASD keys, triggers Hook One and touches/drags the screen accordingly to up/left/down/right etc....
Left Clicking the mouse, touches Trigger Point One.
Right Clicking the mouse, touches Trigger Point Two, or pressing key E if you prefer.
Can someone create this app? Or give me guidelines to how to create it.
I don't like the idea to learn how the entire android/java library works just to be able to create one simple application that should indeed aldready be built-in as stock.
Asus your just too funny. I love you guys so much Asus, just wow! Your so innovative! Ironically speaking
Asus even forced me to root this tablet just to lose my warranty,
based on how cr*ppy this defect product is.

Trying to figure out how this is relevant. Also if you rooted "just to lose [your] warranty," you're seriously doing it for the wrong reasons.
-.- Asus made so many mistakes in their ROM plus they put many useless functions and the DPI settings was just wrong, and I unlocked many things and corrected their mistakes by editing their poisoned ROM build
it was like they were asking me to root it... I dont know if they are multibillionaires or what... but how can they make such crappy builds from the start so people have to root it and even change ROM
I didn't root it to lose my warranty it was more like I had to throw this tablet in the garbagecan if I DIDNT ROOT IT
was that more clear?
and of course I DIDNT NOTICE THE WIRELESS ISSUES AND HARDWARE FAILURES THAT CAME WITH THE DEVICE
so now I can't send it to repair so now Asus is making money out of this of course, that is how they make you lose your warranty
They are making the ROM ****ty then releasing a way to nvflash, root it etc and you lose your warranty by doing it
I never lost my warranty when changing OS on my PC! What is the difference between the Transformer Prime and a PC? Not much... ARM? jesus... tired of this crap. And dont start explaining how Transformer Prime is not a PC, then your just stupid. I know how XDA works they try to contradict everything you say instead of trying to understand
Not to be argumentative but I rooted my tab and subsequently sent it for an rma repair and had no issues whatsoever. Asus honored the warranty and I did nothing to hide the fact that I rooted it. It came back with root intact.
rooting isn't the issue, it's when you unlock the tab that the lads over at asus go a bit mental
That I did too so I am screwed...I also contacted Asus and they have never heard of any infamous wireless issues of the transformer prime... just crazy

Should I keep my Note II?

I picked up the Note II from BestBuy on Saturday... I got it to replace my Galaxy Nexus. In addition, I've got a Nexus 10. I like the phone, its blazing fast, and of course rated a top device.... But I'm just not completely sold on it after using it for the past couple of days.
It is big, for having hands that are OK on the GN... The GNII is huge. Layout and right handed apps help, but I've had trouble hitting "i" almost every time I "o", etc. I like the concept of the S pen, but don't know how much I'd actually use it, same for multi app running, etc.
I like aftermarket support and cases that the GNII has,a bug plus over the GN... But that's not enough to keep it.
I have not rooted or romed the Note. So maybe I'm missing out on things. Not a huge TouchWiz fan, compared to the stockness of the Nexus. Missing Google Wallet, etc.
Anyways... I'm considering returning the Note until something better comes along? Galaxy S4, next Nexus? Or...can someone give me a reason to keep this?

This device is not for everyone. I myself having very large hands can't stand smaller devices. I can almost one hand my Nexus 7. It's just a tad too large. The Note 2 on the other hand is the perfect size for me. I have had several people I work with though say that it is ridiculously large and they just couldn't handle it. Try the DNA if you are looking for a new phone or stick with the Galaxy Nexus which is still a fantastic device.
Try Bean's rom with Nova Launcher. Feels like a big GNex to me!
Every phone isnt for everyone. You seem like you'd be happier waiting to me.

i got rid of the galaxy nexus 2 weeks ago. and didnt think i would be this happy. battery life is amazing. i rooted and put the beans rom on. i hate the home button on this phone and was missing the soft keys on the nexus so i found the way to activate the soft keys on this phone and disable the hard keys. bought a skin from ebay and completely covered the bottom bezel and it looks like there is no dumb home button. loving this phone even more now.

I too came from the GNex. At first I loved the softkeys. I thought it was good that there wasnt waisted phone space so i got more screen. But as time went on I thought if they are basically there the whole time whats the difference between that and the physical, or capacitive touch buttons?
I never really modded or changed the layout of my softkeys so that didnt really matter to me. What I didnt like was when it would be full screen, like when watching youtube videos, there was definite burn in.
When coming to the Note 2 I really missed the recent apps softkey. And I hated that I couldn't swipe the home key up for Google Now. But, when I discovered long pressing the menu capacitive button brought up the recent apps, and long pressing the home button brought up Google Now, any remote longing for my GNex was quickly forgotten.
Then if you consider the battery life, it's not even close. The Note 2 easily handles a full day of normal to heavy use. The GNex was lucky to make it to lunch. The battery was my primary driving factor in getting the Note 2.
Lastly I will ad that when I had the GNex I was a little jealous of my girlfriends S3. The screen is only slightly bigger but because of the GNex softkeys it seemed much bigger. Now when I pick up the S3 it seems so small.
Im hooked and will easily keep this phone a while, trust me that is no easy feat for me. iPhone > Droid X > Thunderbolt > Bionic > Razr > Gnex > Note 2

I was in the same boat. I had a GalaxyS3 prior to owning the Note 2. Definitely not a one-handed phone. At first I was regretting selling my GS3. After 2 weeks of use, I am really warming up to the change. I love the s-pen(I always carried a stylus with me before). The camera & features are great. Web browsing & reading emails is awesome on the big screen. I DO miss one handed operation. But that is the trade-off. Maybe when the S4 comes out...

I'm interested in what it looks like with the home button covered. Do you have a link to the skin?
I haven't go mine yet, will get in on the 17th, but on my thunderbolt i used Thumb Keyboard, i lets you do a split keyboard that pushes it towards the outsides so you can reach it, or another way it does a big screen mode that pushes the entire keyboard to one side. I haven't tried it yet but i plan to use the split keyboard on portrait and landscape mode on the phone.
You're not happy. Take it back. Its not for everyone.

You hit a lot of the points that I do like about the Note... Battery life is great, 4G LTE in my little small hometown is blazing fast (I didn't even realize, as I had turned off LTE on the Nexus since it drained my battery when we didn't have it here). I had similar thoughts about the recently accessed apps missing, swipe up for Google Now... and I found those by holding the Home button to the point where that menu was then accessible.
I switched back to the Nexus last night just by swapping my SIM card and I really do enjoy this phone. Like I said - I want to like the Note 2, I'd like to keep it because I think it IS a great device... Just not sure that it's the best for me, at least right now. With some of the news on the S4 and future phones coming out sometime this year, maybe I just hold onto my upgrade until a little later and see what comes out.
I'm going to toy around with it for another few days before I'd return it... I'm a little unsure if I want to go through the unlocking and rooting process before I would return it, but we'll see.
Thanks for the advice.
If you're going through all of this.. It's probably not for you. Nothing wrong with waiting for one that works for you.

I feel the same way, and we went through a lot of the same phones, only reason I didn't get a GNex was lack of sd card. I almost waited to see what the Motorola/Google phone turned out like, glad I didn't. The Motorola/Google phone will need to be at least 5" for me to consider it now, but I think the only thing that'll be able to dethrone the Note 2 for me is a Note 3 or 4.

Have they changed the predictions like they said they were going to? I love the layouts and customizable options, but hated the predictions. I now use swift key and love the predictions, but the layouts aren't as good.
Since I've got 15~ days to return the device and still keep my upgrade, I figured I'd give it a little bit more of a run for its money. After reading some of the responses here, I decided to unlock, root, and ROM the GNII just to see if that would help it any more. I loaded up the Beans ROM, giving a little more GN feel to it. Loaded up Google Wallet and went through the activation process noted in one of the posts from here... Tested it this evening at the local grocery store and it worked, after a failed attempt at McDonalds (which I think was on the cashier, not the phone).
I also swapped for the 4.2 keyboard instead of the stock Samsung one. I think potentially my biggest complaint, and what I saw all over the forums here, was the lack of an autocorrect feature like the 4.2 KB offers. I still notice that I'm hitting the "B" key instead of the spacebar, a lot... But I'm going to keep going here and see how it goes.
Thanks for the suggestions guys!
One thing, if your missing the quick Google Now shortcut, download Nova Launcher, go into settings, go to the Gesture Layouts, from there you can make certain gestures on the screen or off an app(as in swipe up on youtube, make it launch Google Now). I have it set to where if I swipe up on my screen, launches Google Now. If I double tap on my screen, it launches Falcon Pro, and swipe down lowers the Notification bar.
