so I should root and install this before i update when mine comes?

Although Titanium said something about being rooted but the su binary needed some access changed.. It said successful

Force SU to try updating again a couple times. Sometimes it can take 2 or 3 tries to go.

It worked the first time. Can't remember exactly what it said. I think it changed the uid or gid to 0 instead of 1000 something if I recall.
Rebooted after if updated the su like it said and works like a champ!

Yeah, post ICS. I saved root prior to ICS update. I guess the updated didn't format the system partition.
After ICS, ran rootkeeper and it installed root perfectly.

Thanks. I just downloaded it, ran it, appeared to "save" it, now I guess when I finally get ICS - I am on West Coast - I will open it and run it and restore root after ICS.

Can anyone post there su backup from rootkeeper and we can try to see if it will restore if we never saved, im so upset i didnt know about rootkeeper before i installed ics (((

Sadly, it's not that simple. OTA Rootkeeper relies on being able to copy the su binary somewhere on the system and keep the special permissions intact. The permissions have to be set originally while running as root, which is why it requires a root exploit to get it set up in the first place. If you just tried copying a downloaded file on there, it wouldn't work.

Yep. Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, Sixaxis Controller. Root seems to be working fine after restoring with OTA Rootkeeper. Root Explorer is able to remount the file system, TiBu is able to backup and restore apps, and Sixaxis Controller is able to connect to my PS3 controller (although touch emulation is broken, as I mentioned).

now that I have ota rootkeeper???? Hi everyone.
Hello everyone!
This is my first post here; however, I am new to this tooting phones experience, and learning alot from this site. I have rooted my HTC thunderbolt properly and is working well; I also installed OTA rootkeeper and seems to work ok, the question I have is this: Now that I have OTA rootkeeper installed in my phone can I accept firmware updates from verizon without loosing my root??? Also, do I need to use ROM manager, and Titanium for backups????
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks,

I'd recommend posting this question in the Q&A section of the Thunderbolt area of XDA, as they would be more familiar with your situation, and should be able to help you. Here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1103
Welcome to XDA though!

[FIX] Titanium Backup not working after S-OFF/Root

After obtaining S-OFF and permanent root, I was still having trouble getting Titanium Backup to work.
Here's what I had to do to fix it:
I had used this to obtain temp root in the past: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1151735
Those steps had me create this directory: /data/bin/
Within that directory, I had sqlite, su, etc. so I simply deleted all the files in that folder, rebooted, and Titanium Backup now works!
I hope it helps everyone else.
I believe that all u need was to reinstall busybox. Which you can download in the market.

Busybox dl didn't work. What's happened is one of the temp root methods put the files in a place that TB could find and they're no longer "registered" in that location. Deleting out the junk fixes the patch issues and helps most folks.
Download busybox from inside TB by pressing problems. It should fix after that.

Thanks to the help of an xda member, I was able to obtain the stock Netflix app. I have now successfully pushed it back to the system, thereby restoring the one app I previously deleted from the system.
So, now that I restored the App and pushed it back to the system, I am good, right? I should now be able to successfully update and install future OTAs?
Kindly clarify my doubt.
Thanks
As long as you haven't used the unlock tool....you should be good. If you get the dead android, just download v.15, load it from the sd card, then do the same with v.21
good luck

DONT FORGET! Rootkeeper before update! .28 update thread

With the coming update to .28 dont make the same mistake many of us did with .21. Use rootkeeper, takes a minute and saves a hassle. I've read that .28 fixed the workaround to downgrade so you really dont want to forget to use rootkeeper unless you want to go without root or unlock for a while.

If you want to revert to stock and KEEP ROOT do the following (worked for me, ymmv)
Download the firmware you are CURRENTLY ON (for me its .21)
Put that firmware in the ROOT DIRECTORY of your prime (not the removable SD card)
Restart your prime, it should detect that there is an update available and update you to .21 (the same FW you are on)
NOW that you are stock (all stock apps are there) you can go about reverting back to .15 (or your favorite pre-.21 update), use wolf's guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
Get blob file for firmware (download firmware, extract, find blob file. I used .15) MAKE SURE ITS FOR YOUR AREA (Mine is WW)
copy blob file to root dir of the prime
In shell execute: ADB Reboot
let it reboot, dont touch anything
In shell execute: dd if=/sdcard/blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
it will appear nothing is happening for 3 to 10 minutes. Mine took closer to 15 minutes. BE PATIENT THIS BIT TAKES A WHILE
when you see records in/out in how many seconds you know its done.
in shell execute: ADB Reboot
you should now have a clean, freshly installed prime on .15 Root with your flavor of root tools, use OTA rootkeeper and OTA to .21, then when the OTA to .28 is ready in your area your good to go!
Credit to wolf, go to his thread, hit the thanks button.
Hit my thanks button if i helped! Good luck and i will try to bring forward important info as it happens.
Unless of course Asus do a **** move and completely overwrite /system or rm the voodoo rootkeeper backup specifically in the update script.

If I had to guess it would be because he had to manually install the update from his micro-SD card. OTA Rootkeeper won't work that way.
Hi everyone
I rooted .15 and use OTA Rootkeeper and then OTA to .21.
When the .28 will be released do I have to do something with Rootkeeper or I just OTA to .28...then open Rootkeeper and recover root from .15?
Thx for answer and sorry for my english

Edit:
Let's see; I am on my forth prime since early april now. Three of them on .21 and I had to update all the three via an update.zip from the micro-sd. Do I remember this? Or is it wishful thinking??
... Yeah, I did it from the micro-sd card.... Pure speculation: otarootkeeper will work... Also Demandarin mentioned that GK asked him to do whatever test on his formerly rooted device, so this implies it should still work...but then GK probably doesn't even know how to power on the prime..........................................hell.................

You shouldn't have to do anything, but to be safe, open the app and ensure that it says something along the lines of "Root backed up/protected."

I think the simple rule of thumb is that anything that cannot be uninstalled the normal way (e.g., through the settings menu without rooting and deleting/renaming .apks) must be present.
Where is the backup file made by Root Keeper saved?
Mine is rooted and su file is saved, but will the OTA delete the restore file when installing the new fw?
Should the Ota RK file be saved on the SD Card instead?

You will be fine unless you choose to factory data wipe.
I saved a copy on the SD, just in case.
Appreciate the reminder. Rootkeeper looks to be in order and I think all I changed was the build.prop mod and the gps mod. I just put them back to stock so hopefully I'll be okay. Now comes the wait.
For those who forget how to revert to stock i wrote up a quick guide and posted it to OP.
Basically:
Download current FW
Install current FW
Use Wolf's guide to revert
Root
Use OTA rootkeeper
OTA to current version.
Good luck!
If I disabled some apps in app info will that be OK when updating
Or do I have to enable them all again

Rooted but not able to gain root rights

I rooted my phone months ago but suddenly today I noticed when trying to make a backup with Titanium backup, a few weeks after my most recent backup, that the app lost it's root rights. Normally this wouldn't be a problem because when an app needs root access a pop-up display asks you if you want to grant or deny access. But since the pop-up wasn't showing up either I started searching on my phone for the superuser app. All settings seemd correct, also the premission manager which comes default with MIUI rom looked ok.
To keep the story short, I eventually found out that my phone lost it's root rights. Don't know why... perhaps a new kernel I tried the other day but even then it would be weird that my phone has suddenly unrooted.
So I tried rooting my phone again using Odin. I got all the confirmation messages I used to get after the rooting proces has completed so I re-ran Titanium backup. But this time after a few seconds I got a message onscreen that the root rights had been denied! I checked Superuser app and the log area showed me the same but I can't seem to find out why I keep getting this message instead of the regular Grant/Deny root access pop-up box.
I eventually even tried unrooting my phone. Then re-root using Odin including flashing of CWM touch and Superuser app. Still the same problem: every root based app I try (even typing "su" in the terminal) gets a toaster saying root access denied without even an option to grant or deny root access to this app.
What is happing with my SGS3 and how can I get my root access back to working state?

I believe the Carbon backup app from Koush doesn't require root, and there are other ADB backup tools out there, just search.

ME7 Root

I rooted using the method that only gives root access, if and when Verizon pushes a new OTA, will that cause any problems? Of course I would first unroot via that function in SuperSU, just want to know if I would need to do anything else before taking the update our if I would run into any problems? Thinking about it now I would defrost the few apps I've frozen, but there isn't to much else I've done as far as tweaks go other then install adaway.

I would def defrost apps, and be prepared to not be able to root again, as im sure all current methods will be fixed when it updates again. With how popular the phone is im sure root would be found, but it will take time.
