So am I **** out of luck for a cheap fix? I looked around and found a site that sells the glass for over $300 and up wants over $200 to fix it. I could do it myself if I found the part but can't seem to find any place that sells it cheap.
Can't believe how fragile the screen was, I knocked a glass water bottle over on it and it cracked, didn't even fall on it from a tall height, just tipped over on it.
that sucks.
and yes these things are expensive.
I would sell the tp for parts and use the money to get a nook or fire.

Good advice beacuse the digitizer would cost more than what u paid for the unit.
The more scratch resistant the glass, the more susceptible to cracking. Like a sapphire crystal on a watch.

It's you talking about TP broken glass ??
why not sending back to HP ?

Nobody in their right mind would send back their Touchpad to HP to repair, incur hundreds in repair costs (HP will charge that much too, prob $300 or more), and still end up with a discontinued tablet.
I agree with above advice - sell for parts, maybe even sell it as is, and get a Kindle Fire or a new Nook Color. The touchpad craze came and went. If mine breaks, I'm charging it to the game and getting something else.

Why would it. The warranty on my new car does not cover wrapping g it around a telephone pole either. On top of that'LL is notorious for making excuses that defective laptops were dropped or have water damage. If they make excuses to get out of repairs they should cover,I would not expect them to fix problems they are not responsible for. Of course apple actually replaced some screens that were too easy to break once but that's the exception not the rule.
Touchpad craze came and went? I think it's a bit soon to say that. We are still running alpha CM7. At most, people have had this for 3 months. Do you buy a new device every other week?

I know this may sound weird, but perhaps the aluminum back plate is the cause of all the wifi and gps issues that people are reporting. does anyone have any plans to run tests without the back plate on? or even replace it completely?
$500 Experiment
Removing the back would be extremely interesting, but I can't afford the $500 experiment.

i second this. if someone was to remove the back plate it would definitely tell us if it was the problem or whether its software. and tbh its the only way were going to find out unless we just sit and wait for an official statement or update.

Second this. If anyone has the capability to produce structurally sound plastic replacement backplate, remove stock aluminum and replace with plastic, I suspect people would be lined up. Should be Asus, and should be free. Mea cupla.

Seriously, I'll talk to a fabricator tomorrow. There are no complex lines in the back so it wouldn't be that hard. Some type of metal ornamentation could be used so that it matches the dock. I'd imagine it could be DIY for some and a 48 hour turn for people that want to send it in and have it done by a tech. As to the warranty, at least in the U.S., Asus can't void the warranty if an issue not related to the back cover comes up because of Magnuson-Moss.

forget having it metal to match the dock, I would love a clear back. when U got hardware like this why not show it off.
I saw a post on another forum where a guy did remove the back & he say wifi was increased substantially plus GPS too.
alright so my idea has taken off a bit.
I Don't see anything wrong with a plastic duplication of the aluminum cover.
I agree but how do you get the back cover off?

I have no trust in the luser that said that unless we can see a photo. He was booted from xda.
It keeps getting talked about but I have yet to see an answer is it possible to disassemble the Prime without destroying it? Do you need a special tool?
If someone could do this it would finally definitively tell us the aluminum backing is the culprit for the GPS problem.
XDA is supposed to be full of hardcore techies and no one even has a best guess on this?
I wonder if we could raise some money, purchase one, and send it to iFixIt and let them do the teardown. Those guys are pro when it comes to teardowns.
No one going to risk voiding warranty over something so trivial. Device to expensive to go messing around with it like that. Plus its not our job to do that or we shouldn't have to. That is Asus job. You probably could open it up but its glued shut more than likely. GPS not that big of a deal to mess prime up over.
Its already been tore down before. There are pix in one of these threads..lol

I'm sure as more prime's come out this month someone is going to open it up.
Never heard of a tablet being glued together do you really think it is?
A dead GPS isnt trivial just because you don't happen to care about it imho..
That being said, I wouldn't crack it open to find out either.
We just need to give asus enough flak to start caring about it.

I would bet almost all of them use glue. Especially the thin ones.

Yep, the entire front/screen/digitizer assembling on the iPad 2 is entirely held together with glue. One requires the use of a heat gun to disassemble properly.

well in that case I guess it is oh well one of the magazines or big techie sites is going to have to do it guess it ain't happening by a xda member.
Everyone's freaking out about the gps its not that big but if it is to some they should return it no one is going to pry open their tab it won't happen

I agree, Asus needs the pressure to finally address the issue head on. By trivial I morsel meant not a big enough reason to risk voiding warranty and breaking device. One the back is off, they will know. Then that person out back..lmfao

Here is the eBay link to the Transformer Prime replacement screen.

It isn't cheap, and the repair might be tricky so if you give it a go, good luck
Also, post pics of your tear down and replacement!

The description definitely states several times that it is for the TF201 and not the old TF101. But yeah I don't know where you might be able to find the glass face for the screen.

Ya but it also states that's its for a Tegra 2 device.
And the model number B101EW05 is the same for the tf101 replacement screens on ebay..
I'm about to RMA my device for the green/static camera issue with my prime, I've seen many threads about this problem.
I was wondering do I need to unroot and go back to stock when before I send it in? Don't really want to do that because I'm on .21 and there is no new root method for it yet.
Also, for those who have had to RMA their primes, did you remove your screen protector/shield? I have a clear shield for the back and a anti-glare protector on the front.
Thanks guys
P.S. I have attached a screenshot of how my camera looks like.

I would just because Asus might blame you for the cause of the fault for rooting the device. Better safe than sorry. And I left the screen protector on and when you ship it only the tablet goes. Keep your prime box and all the accessories or you might not get it back. All they need is the tablet itself and nothing else. Please do document/video your prime before and during packaging as proof your prime was in good condition when it left you.
