GPS switch missing from menu - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Just thought i mention that the GPS toggle button is missing from the side menu.

I cannot find an option to turn GPS on.
I must be doing something wrong.
There is no way they would have removed the ability through software.

It's under Location Services in the Settings.
"Let apps use GPS to pinpoint your location"
Or are you talking about something else?

Don't know what bearing it has but looks like they removed the etc/gps.conf file in ICS.

Was just coming to post this same thing. I went to test to see if it got better since some people lost it due to OTA and it was like No GPS. I don't thinkk it is usable anymore...

I have been putting off the update just to read reports of stuff like this. Wow, this is a bit of a shock to me. I use that switch in the quick setting all the time. They removed it?
And they removed the gps.config file. How ****ed up. Now I will be sure to save mine to put it back.
And seriously, some of you think they really removed it? Did you try GPS Test? This would be a major screw job by them if they try to retro delete out the function despite the chip still being there.

OMG.. I am shocked. They gave GPS a lobotomy???? WTF! So they now decided for us that we can't even have it, even if the chip is there, this is so ****ing shocking. There MUST be a way to turn GPS on. There just must??

Here we go again...

Mine still works....

Not really... if they did in fact give GPS a lobotomy, that is something radically different to remove a means of turning it on and the gps.confg file.

Mine works....... you can install the toggle widget and enable and disable gps

You still have yours??? Are they sending out another bad QC batch for early adopters? This time in software form!

You can still turn it on "Location services->GPS Satellites" and check the box, this is what the quick button on the menu did anyway.
My GPS signal is actually very much improved after the update. I went from no satellites found outside to 10 or more in the lower part of my house and a fix with 30 seconds. It is still far from perfect and I have not tried it outside yet.

Mine also works

If your rooted & reading this, or anyone here is now rooted again under ICS already, look into /etc/ and report what the gps.config file shows. I am curious to see what they changed in that file.

I wouldn't get too excited. Mine hasn't improved any.

Anyone got an idea as to why?
i tried to reboot airplane mode off on....everything...( that i know of at lest)
Thank you very much!
Cheers!
I don't know if it is me, but I have a hard time understanding what you're asking. Are you rooted and what roms/themes are you using? What did you try doing before you started having this problem?
It looks like you have data in that screenshot. I had a problem with not getting any signal, but that was my fault. I manually edited the apns so I could tether and crowned them to root oops.
Edit: Grammar.
I am not sure what you are asking but I can tell you why your screen shot looks green.
I believe you are using ScreenShotIt or similar, if so check the "Invert color box"
Alright, Yeah I am using one of thous programs!
The issue is that as you can see, the h+ icon shows up, but thats all I manage to get, no data is transfered, it only shows the icon..
I cant figure out why
I am rooted running NO MODS
You have data turned on, right?
Settings > Data Manger > Data Delivery
I have never seen or heard of anyone with this problem. If it were my phone, I would be betting on either a hardware problem or a network problem with your carrier. Can you make phone calls and use wifi still?
Yes i can still make calls and use wifi, and yes data is enabled, like I used it for a full day and then it just...did this..

Weird, it is beginning to sound like a hardware problem. One last thing, I believe Pelephone is in Israel, any chance there is either no data provisioned on your SIM or it got turned off by your provider; I would give them a call first.
Good luck.
I dont see how it can be a hardware problem it used to work fine, and then it just stops, it didnt get droped or anything..
I got a plan with pelephone for 2 GB a month, that started a few days ago..
No one else got an idea?
If i got into *#*#463#*#* It shows i got a HSDPA connection
Like I said call Pelephone, it could be a provisioning issue at their end.
its saturday so they are not working today..i will call them tomorrow..even though i tested it on another device and it worked...
I still dont see how it could be a hardware problem if it worked fine before..
AND if it is...where can i send it to be fixed? ( money or no money)
I don't know the Pelephone rules but if you got it from them, they should cover warranty replacements. If you got it from a third party that doesn't do warranty, you still have one year warranty with Moto and will need to contact them.
Does rooting void that 3rd party warranty ?

[Q] S2 Touchscreen crazy click

I bought my Galaxy S2 week ago on United States, but it's imported I don't know where.
I got it today, and when I tried setup it the touchscreen problem started.
I don't touch on screen but it "auto" click on middle left of screen, so, it's impossible use.
I tried restore to factory and no lucky to fix it.
When i put the S2 on charge ou USB cable connected on computer, the touchscreen "auto" click stop, but if i remove the cable connected, it return.
Anyone know why this? I can't return to EUA to change and need know if is software issue ou hardware.
Can I call to samsung on Brazil and ask about it to change or fix the problem? I need pay?
It's a new phone, I need fix this with Samsung or w/e...
im sorry to say, but it seems hardware problem. u want to take it samsung repair centre.
It's really weird... I tried update the firmware but still the same problem...
Anyone think they need change the smartphone or it's simple to fix on authorized of samsung?

Before you turn it in; dial *#0*#
Then run the 'touch-test'. So you can diagnose whether it's the screen itself!
If problem persists; still return to Samsung!

Same Problem
hello, I'm facing the same problem, i bought my s2 a month ago with 1 year warranty, i faced strange issue, i was using the phone as a WiFi hotspot, then left it on the table and went to sleep, i wake up and the screen isn't responding, then i noticed a crack in the upper right of the screen, i know warranties exclude broken screens and damages caused by improper usage, although that i didn't cause the crack of the screen(no one would believe that) i went online and bought a replacement, it arrived 2 weeks later, i went online and checked on how to replace it, i did all the procedures and replaced the screen and everything went well and i got the phone functional again, but the screen went crazy with auto touches in the middle of the screen i tried everything possible by software and hardware, anyways i realized it has nothing to do with software, then by hardware i checked everything and all was right, any possible solution other than Samsung repair center?
did you solve it ? and how ?
because i think i have the same problem
i formatted everything like it was a new phone, same thing.
see the screenshots:
btw i enabled "show pointer" in developer options to see the touches,
as you see, all the touches is in the same exact column:

First issue ever.. Bootlooping

So I was using my prime inbetween finals today..
So I was using wifi kill to get back some bandwidth on the school network..... (i have used this same app before on the prime worked fine! NO. Reboots intact this was my first ever reboot..)
Then when I am done downloading my file and exit wifi kill bam instant reboot then I let it do its thing for Atleast 5 minutes... Nothing but the asus screen..
So then I wipe data... Try to start nothing
Try loading recovery kernel I get the dead android guy with the exclamation mark.. Then it reboots and loops again. This time I waited 20 minutes..
Now all that is left to do is try unzipping the firmware onto a micro sd and trying to flash the recovery kernel from that...
Of course we have no ADB because of the fact it needs asus sync to work and the tablet needs to be on for that to work... And of course the bootloader is locked...
My prime was perfect for the almost 1 month I had it
No reboots no screen bleed gps worked fine.. Wifi was fast and range was good.. Nothing just perfect!

Dang, sorry to hear that. Did you still have the overclock applied while this happened? Anything else you can think of that you did or added to prime after rooting? running any extra scripts other than overclock?
Maybe try killing the battery to do a reboot like that. so old processes or whatever cause it will more than likely be killed. What kind of file did you download? seems like the file or app you used has something to do with it since it happened immediately after.
Good luck getting it up n running. Keep us posted.

No I have ran the apps (wifi kill almost every day) before and the file was a harmless playstation 1 rom zip
Overclock was not applied........ I have changed nothing in the system files except for throwing in a better GPS config file but I have shut the prime off many times before this... Hell I even left all of the bloatware!
the only thing else I can think of was that I was listening to music VIA headphones.... then all of a sudden it started playing over the speaker even though the headphones where plugged in....... it was really weird.... I forgot to mention this part as I almost got in trouble because other kids where still finishing their Final
Because this was the first time I had used headphones in it........ never check that before.....
One thing you could try would be the pin hard reset........not sure which pin hole to use but look it up.....might get you out of your boot loops.

Good post, OP. It proves karma is real, and that people who are pr!cks get what's coming to them.
ARP spoofing (what Wifikill does to disrupt other connections) is an old man-in-the-middle attack that can be used for wiretapping. IOW, it's ILLEGAL and you can be prosecuted. Would that happen? Probably not, depending on where you use it and how vigilant IT is.
But what will happen is that if you use it on a regular basis--or if you publicize it on forums so more dweebs like you can get their paws on it to get their "whoa cool" kicks--IT will get annoyed from all the complaints and will trace you down. Hope you like long vacations, because for a work or school setting, you will be somewhere else after they get done with you.
Edit: For those who have their Internet connection disrupted by twits using ARP spoofers like wifikill, there are Anti Netcut for Windows, and Wifi Protector for Android. Protector is a paid app, but the author has made it free here on XDA. If you use a hotspot, this is a must-have.
I've not used either, but from Wifi Protector's blurb below, you can pinpoint the attacker's IP and MAC, and report it to your admin.
For those putting up a public hotspot, better routers have a "client isolation" setting. Enabling this setting should defeat many MITM attacks. If your router doesn't have this, get one that does.
ARP attacks aren't new, and there are ways to bring the attackers to heel. The people likely to get hurt most are the mom & pop stores that don't know how to protect themselves, like these folks.

Any way to remove wifi nag notification?

I know the wifi nag can be annoying because of its uselessness and persistence. It seems minor to me considering what wonderful potential this phone has- when I root and rom and all that. But if anyone knows a way to turn is off for stock....
Not at the moment. The trick that worked on the SG3 doesn't work for us.

The wifi icon in the notifications. When wifi is turned off the notification stays on always, to let you know- i guess , that wifi is an option for you to use. Like I didn't already know that the phone has wifi and I can use it when I wish. That wifi icon is basically a permanent short cut to wifi settings. I know seems strange, but Im fine to live with it for a bit. It goes away when you turn on wifi.
that was not nice to plaster that there

That's the thing, I never use WiFi. It's about the only thing that stops me from saying the Dinc 4G is perfect out of the box...in my experience so far. It just clutters up a person's notification panel for absolutely no good reason. I hope VZ themselves take it off, but maybe I'm too optimistic Yea, it's a little thing, but it's an odd move that almost seems like a mistake. I mean, what's the difference with a WiFi widget? I use the BlueTooth widget and Hotspot and Brightness widgets, why not put all those up in there too? We should have the option to disenable it, especially if you own the phone outright...and I'm just speaking on a stock level. But I'm also hopeful that some bright person will find a way and salvage that space back from our panel.

Yeah some of the other newer phones are coming with that as well. Think it's the "new thing" for big red.
Right, in the Galaxy SIII forums they hypothesize that this constant notification is an effort to have users data be on WiFi (and off their 4G network) as much as possible. I've tried playing with SQLite Editor and "wifi_networks_available_notification_on" in the settings storage as posts like this describe, but find the database is locked, and any attempts to change that have bricked my Incredible 4G. So I hope someone else figures this out!

Bricked, as in the phone won't turn on or get past the boot screen. The system files are quite fragile, while I managed to get this setting changed, it wouldn't reboot so that I could see if it worked. But its not my first time at the rodeo, and I had TWRP recovery to get me out of that state, and into a new ROM, which is the only way I think this little nuisance gets removed. Nitsuj17's ROM, for example, has this feature on their To-Do list, but it probably isn't their top priority.

So you weren't bricked then. You can't recover a brick which is why it is called that.
As for the nag, everyone wants to get rid of it so it is being looked in to.

That was inside my house time to fix about 5 secs
Sent from my GT-I9205 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It seems there is no problem with GPS, instead I have found this Mega can lock GPS faster than my old S3.

That's good to hear. Physics would suggest that a larger device also acts as a better antenna.
I switched from the samsung infuse to this one and as far as I can tell the GPS on this is great that was one of my huge factors when I switched to this. All in all I have noticed it locks on within 5 to 15 seconds not to much longer and not once has it dropped on me even in the most remote of areas.

Sorry to bring this back up... I had no problems with GPS, but the last 2 weeks I have been having terrible issues. It is constantly getting off track when travelling in the car. Losing contact with GPS... especially right before I get to a major turn in the directions. Taking forever to relock. I did a full factory reset and that didn't help.
Anyone with any ideas? I sure do not want to have to pay for insurance replacement.
Perhaps atmospheric anomalies or problems with the GPS system itself ?
Lose GPS when connecting or disconnecting power
I have found that I lose GPS if I connect or disconnect power. This usually happens when I get into the car while playing Ingress and I reconnect the power. It is easy to overcome as I just turn off and on the GPS from the Notification Panel. It is obnoxious however. Can anyone else test to see if this is happening to them?

At this point I have not solved the problem. I did find that clearing the cache will alleviate the problem for a short while but it comes back. I did a support chat with Samsung and that was the first thing they had me do. Also when I loaded the new firmware update, same thing since that cleared the cache too. Samsung said to call back after testing the cleared cache step but I have not gotten around to it yet. I did find that if you have the GPS die that just hitting the GPS off and on from the notification drawer will restart it, but you probably already knew that. Glad to know that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. I am holding out hope that this will be fixed with 4.3 whenever it comes out. Otherwise I will have to do something drastic.
I also find that if I am using my GPS and bluetooth for a period time while my phone is in it's case then the GPS dies. When I remove the phone from the case it is very warm and the GPS does not come back to life from restarting it, but give it a minute to, I assume, cool down out of the case then it starts working.

Do you have a custom rom loaded? From your sig it appears you have TWRP loaded and stuff. So are you having the same issue even thou you have a custom ROM loaded?

Well crap. That means that the problems we are having are not software related (unless it is a kernel issue). I was hoping/waiting for the KitKat update to see if that solved but now I don't have that much confidence it will.
Wait, my bad. This rom you have is a stock rom so it could still be a software issue. Oh well I guess I will still wait.

like you I expect the official kitkat and I would see...
I have i9205, stock 4.2.2. GPS is excellent. Locks on within a few seconds (very, very occasionally takes maybe 20 secs) & I've never lost sync.
Possible solution

So I have been reading on AT&T forums and the Note 3 had the same problem. I have even gone into the AT&T store and tried this, unplugging a Note 3 while it had a GPS lock, and it loses the GPS just like the Note 3. Well the Note 3's Kit Kat update came out and the people reporting the issue before are reporting no issue now with 4.4. So there is hope that Kit Kat will solve this one complaint I have with the Mega.
The GPS on the Sprint Mega sucks complete ass. Will never lock more than 1 out of at least 22 detected satellites. Note 3 is on top and Mega is on the bottom. I'm going to discontinue use of my Mega until Sprint and Samsung fix this garbage.
