I red that Super One Click works. For Recovery Mode try to press Home + Power Button
Just bought a Galaxy Ace, great phone and affordable price.
I've managed to root it using SuperOneClick without any trouble, just make sure to reboot after rooting for the first time.

Galaxy Ace has almost 3x that score on our custom ROMs .

LG p500 custom roms have their own bugs. Mostly relating to camera. So be happy with support you are getting for your phone for free. And give some time and encouragement (and donate) to developers working on your phone to improve on it.
