ICS Widget Issues? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So, this is probably a really simple issue to resolve, but after doing the ICS update last night, I don't seem to have an option to place new widgets on my homescreen. I do a long press as usual, but am only given an option to change wallpapers... help? lol

And of course, I find them after I create a post...

Where? If you find an answer to a question please post it for those searching.

to those that can't find them, open your apps drawer, and you can either swipe past your apps or at the top left you will see the widgets tab.
basically the app drawer and widgets are combined now, longpressing on the desktop only lets you change wallpaper.
personally i found the way it worked in HC to be more effecient, but this works i guess

as soon as I posted this found my answer, sorry!

[Q] Organising the App Drawer

On the S2, it seems when you remove an app, the app drawer doesn't re-org it just leaves a gap meaning it has to be manually sorted. Is there a way to automatically sort it other than using the list view?
I also have a similar question to this that I can't find the answer to anywhere..
Basically I have the same problem with around 9 app drawers half filled. I could sit here for an hour dragging each app icon, one at a time, to other app drawers to consolidate them into less drawers but it's very tedious and annoying to do this.
In some apps, I can select multiple icons (such as multiple pictures) and then move them all to another folder, or perform an action on all the selected icons; I can't seem to find a way to do this with my non-rooted SGS2.
I'm trying to find an app that will allow me to set categories and then assign app icons to those categories and then be able to sort all my icons based on the different categories... again, I've not had any success finding an app like that...
...so I've ended up here, on XDA Forums, to ask the people who know more than me.

you have let me think 3 options or maybe two...either download appzorter application from the market..that basically will sort all your applications in alphabetical order and also the folders you create. then if you have gaps it will sort that for you as well and fill the empty spaces.
or second option use a different launcher from the market and it sorts the icons and folders for you.
one launcher that lets you organize your apps into categories i think its either nova launcher or 360 launcher..no need to be rooted or anything like that to be able to use those apps. good luck let me know how you guys get on
Thanks, I have the EX Launcher.. but I don't like it because I have to setup the home screen gain and I had trouble finding the same widgets I had on the out-of-the-box launcher.. maybe I will try again one day.. but for now I will have a look at appzorter to solve my immediate annoyances
+1 for Appzorter
Why Samsung didn't include this function is beyond me.

Samsung does. But on Epic 4G which has an auto organized TW4 launcher. I only fine one custo which ported it to our model. But i am not able to make it run on another rom. So bad...

[Solved] Can I have my homescreen look like this mockup?

I would like to make my homescreen look like the one attached.
This is a little mockup I have made. Even if I can get the shortcut list going on the side would be nice. I'm not so sure about the tiles after I finished drawing it.
Any ideas on widgets/launchers is appreciated before I have to actually code something myself. I have been trying to look for widgets etc. that can help me but have come up empty.
Things like this have been done before. Search Android Phone 7. I've never seen one with that app list sidebar. That may be a little hard to recreate but it isn't impossible.
Things you'd need: Icons, Desktop Visualizer, ADW EX or Launcher Pro Plus (Plus is needed for resizing widgets) Minimalistic Text, maybe Phantom Music Control. For the icons like "Games" or "Utilities" you may be able to link the DVR widget to an app called Folder Organizator. Or you could use a widget called SiMi Folder, which would make a shortcut on your homescreen that is like the iPhone's folder thing. You could make the icon of the SiMi Folder transparent.
This is going to take A LOT of resizing, which can get really boring. To avoid headaches, plan everything out before you start. If you want a widget above another widget, the widget you want on the bottom (background) needs to be placed BEFORE the widget you want in front (foreground). You are going to have to resize it over the other widget, not place it on top.
That's all I can think of for right now. The left side should be pretty easy. The right side on the other hand will be a little challenging. My best advice would be to start by making a big plain minimalistic text (MT) widget, then add each app name as a MT widget with a blank background (option is in the MT widget configuration menu) For some help, try the Hubs layout in the Asus Transformer Theme and App section. We have a nice thread there with a similar idea and people there will be more than willing to help. They are a lot better at home screen customization than me.
Anyways, awesome idea! If you make the icons, I'll be happy to help you recreate it!
Thanks for the reply. I've played around with Minimalistic Text and it looks promising, thanks. I had noticed it several times before, but it does not mention it can function to create normal shortcuts too.
Just buying ADW Launcher EX (first purchase, borrowing a debit card now), as I have been using the free version for a while. Will post an update when it goes through and I can play with resizing the widgets.
I am currently playing with Minimalistic Text and I have the text on the screen, but when I assigned the proper functions I found they overlap each other...
Anyone know how to avoid this? (They are created using 5x1 horizontal widgets)

Resize the widgets. I dont know how its done in ADW but i think you can do it by long pressing them.
I have, they are the smallest they can go. The resize outline box is 1 unit high, but when I push the 'button' it shows a 2 unit high selection box...
I'll see if I can get a s/s of each box...
Edit: Nope, too tricky to get the timing.
reminds me of wp7
if you wanna something like that try Launcher 7
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3
else you can use desktop visualizer (like mentioned before)
i am using desktop visualizer,too.
but i noticed when you have to restart your phone it takes a while to reload the widgets
How ever it's still fine
I used to use DVR when I first got my phone. The tile layout on the left was an experiment, I don't think I'll use it. The main thing was the right hand side; the list of shortcuts.
Well I worked around the overlapping issue by reapplying them in a different order so they underlap instead.
Now I'll work on another layout I like for the rest of my icons, thanks guys
PS: @restarting phone: Who does that?
Edit: For anyone who cares:
Use MT to make a 5x1 widget, use the vertical top alignment and both horizontal ones right.
Don't show background.
Choose custom layout and remove the three existing sections and add a 'static text' one from under Misc.
I choose normal (not default) text and change it to 30dip (that fits my applications nicely on my 800x480px screen).
Choose launch another application and choose the application you want to launch.
Start from the bottom of the screen and work your way up, placing the background last.

OO thanks! I'll wait til you finish the whole thing to try it out but it looks like its going to be awesome.
I'll post a new thread when I've accomplished it
Hi
is there any progress on this topic? is the new thread already open?
It's 12:40am here. A new thread will be made tomorrow after I've finished the homescreen.

[Q] cm9 and adw ex

Hey
I am using ADW EX with cm9. Everything is great but one thing is bothering me and I have not been able to find a solution. In landscape mode on the top of the screen is a bar with a menu button on the right. This just takes up space as I have a menu button on the bottom. Anyone know where I can go to remove this? I will attach a photo
Thanks!
Hmm ... I used to use ADW EX with CM9 and I don't recall that. Perhaps try turning off the persistent search (I think it's in CM settings).
Thanks will give that a try
Was not sure if it was a cm9 setting or something with ics's version of adw ex
Looks like that didn't fix it
The cm settings only change the cm launcher which is trebuchet, I am using adw ex.
I'll try installing ADW EX again tonight and giving it a try.

I'm not sure what that is. I don't see an option to remove it, and I don't really see any reference to it in the change notice. He has added some "unique" features in the past that he later gives options to disable (e.g. the "one dock to rule them all"), and I do see a couple of comments in the reviews about it. Perhaps there will be more functionality (and an option to disable) in a future update.
Hey thanks a ton for atleast helping me understand what's going on
The status bars appear to be locked in cm9, apart from removing the search setting and clock details. I haven't been able to get the bottom status bar to appear/disappear with an up or down swipe trying several launchers. Have to wait for an update or go searching for the status bar details in the programming. Not to fussed at the moment, just waiting eagerly for 3.0 kernel to get integrated.
Its specific to adw.
I've been using adw ex on my Xoom through Honeycomb roms and ICS roms and they've always been there. Its a bit redundant but..oh well.
Thanks..hopefully ads devs address this by giving us an option to shut it off
I wouldn't count on it. The app was last updated December 7th.
Hopefully apex or nova launcher will enable docks for tablets soon instead. The dock is the only reason I still use ads ex.

I use it because it let's me create icons that are shortcuts to each home screen. Those I can then edit with simple text app. Do you know of any other launchers that do this

Go to adw settings, UI Settings, Screen Preferences, Show desktop Indicator. Uncheck Show Desktop Indicator and it will disappear. If left on you can select what is shown and where. I leave mine off as I know which screen I am on.
Good Luck!
That's not the right thing. He's talking about the empty space with the menu button in it.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, it looks as if show desktop indicator was already unchecked =/

[Q] Widgets in Drawer?

Hello all,
my first post on XDA
First, thanks for this forum, as I found plenty on info on the phone already, and got the itch to immediately start flashing it
I own an XPS as I bricked my Galaxy S after much playing: till now, the XPS is a fantastic phone.
My only complaint about it (besides the difficult to activate home/menu/back buttons) is the absence of widgets in the drawer!
I see Sony has put a home widget to substitute, but hate it.
I love to have Screen Rotation & Brightness, and other widgets in the drawer, as I can access them without exiting the current app (CM was amazing with this, allowing configuration of widgets to be displayed).
Is there a way to add them? I tried a search, but (me noob?) didn't find it.
Thanks for your help,
Azoele
I think you mean in the pulldown area and not the drawer. If so Then this is what you want.

yes!
Yes, it looks like that, thanks!
I will head there immediately and try to install.
Feeling very happy now

Shelf, Any issues, customization's or mods?

Hi,
I recently upgraded to Oos Android 6 Marshmallow. I am enjoying the new Shelf feature which oneplus offers. I do have some questions though that I thought others would find useful if answered in a thread.
I know some people have mentioned shelf has a refresh issue, that it doesn't auto update widgets pinned to it, example: weather. Are any of you experiencing this, if so, is there any way to fix it?
For what I use shelf for, its pretty basic, and all I really need. I would however like to remove the recently used apps widget and attach a favorite app widget where I can pin the apps I want. Is there any way to customize shelf to pin the apps I select or to use a app pinning widget to show the apps i want(I couldn't find an app pinning widget on play store) on shelf?
Last question, Has any developer here played around with shelf, tried customizing it or added any needed features to it? If so I would be curious to know the changes you made or any releases.
Impossible to modify or tweak Shelf....
To change what is in the panel, you have to long press on it or on the icon to modify.
Then swipe left or right the widget you want to erase. (sorry not really precise, but don't have OOS anymore...)
On the 3.1.4 version, no problem with shelf for me.
But you should erase all "launcher 3"'s datas and reset it if you have some.

Thanks for the reply, Why is it impossible to tweak shelf?
I am on 3.1.4 and I haven't experienced any refresh issues yet, I was more curious if others were experiencing any. I know how to change the widgets and customize the panel, but like i said instead of recent apps I want favorite apps. Since shelf doesn't have this feature by default I assumed the best way would be to get a app from google play which allows you to pin apps to a widget on your home screen, then you could just use that widget in shelf. I haven't been able to find an app that does this though, If anyone knows of any, please post them in this thread.
It's too much inserated in the OnePlus system to be modified.
