Please can someone let me know what the official Samsung firmware and kernel is for SIM Free GS2's in the UK?
Tried looking here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 but I can't see "(UK)" next to any of the recent firmware.
Also, can anyone let me know if there are any custom roms that support MHL-HDMI?
Thanks

Custom stock based roms (Anything based on a samsung rom) will have working MHL, ASOP based roms (miui and CM7 etc) wont have working MHL.
Any rom in that thread will run on the sim free UK SGS2, KK5 is a known good rom. If you check the region code thing, XW is the UK country code, so any of them will be the "official" roms.

Hello
I have installed a couple of custom firmwares on my phone, but I am currently running cyanogenmod 7.1.0. I am facing many many problems like fc, crashes, etc. and would like to install stock 2.3.7 using KIES.
I downloaded a stock firmware (somewhere from this forum) and flashed it with ODIN but when I tried to upgrade using KIES I was not able to do so. I want to run a stock 2.3.7 with samsung apps etc. what do I have to do in order to be able to upgrade again through KIES?
Thanks
There is no 2.3.7 stock ROM available.
As for CyanogenMod:
If you had those problems, you were most likely using an outdated version. The nightly 116 is the best working CyanogenMod for the Galaxy S2 so far. The "stable" version was everything but stable.
So you have to decide:
Outdated Samsung Android
or
Give CyanogenMod another try.
Or maybe MIUI?

As the post above says , there is no 2.3.7 stock ROM , 2.3.6 is the latest version ( XWKK2 or XWKK5 ). Get it from intratech's thread, get to clockworkmod recovery , do a wipe data/cache , boot into download mode and flash the rom with odin.
Thank you guys for your answers!!
I will have to find some time to try both the nightly cyanogenmod 116 and the stock 2.3.6 (although I could only find up to 2.3.5).
gr4ndm4st3r_bl4ck, will I be able to update through KIES when 4.0 or 4.1 will be available for my phone?

You can find XWKK2 (2.3.6) at the bottom of intratechs non-frankestein builds.
Ice Cream Sandwich will be available on KIES in late January or early February for Galaxy S2, but we will probably have a leaked version before that. Kies is actually rubish, you should always update using Odin ( much simpler , plus you get updates before they are actually available on KIES).

Ok so I followed your instructions and found following:
Code:
XWKK2
Firmware info
PDA:XWKK2
PHONE: XXKI4
Date: 11/11/2011
Android 2.3.6
XEN (Netherlands): url (not able to post outside links yet)
XWKK2 Stock Kernel: url (not able to post outside links yet)
Password: [email protected]
does it matter if I bought my phone in Sweden but the firmware is from netherlands? I want to have swedish input etc. I am not sure if cyanogenmod (which supports swedish) have included other languages or if it's a standard in every android.. also what is XEN? I will of course read through the guide again but just to be 100% sure
Thank you

If your phone is the international version of SGS II I9100 ( aka not branded ) then it doesn't matter. You will have Swedish input and all the other ones. XEN is a country code for Netherlands ( codes used in firmware versions ). Also you just need the XEN one you dont need the stock kernel , its only used after rooting your phone. Just follow the instructions and you should be ok. Hope that helps a bit.
Hello,
I'm having a Samsung Galaxy s2 (GT-I9100) and I'm from India. Here, the latest android version as released by samsung is 2.3.3. And there are no updates whatsoever ! I want to update my android version. Is there any ofiicial samsung android release for sgs2 ? (2.3.4 or 2.3.5) ? I do not want to use install modded version of android ...
Thanks in advance ... !!
What have you tried so far? KIES or in the about update menu from within the phone? They're difference processes (funny, right? lol).
Try it via KIES.
I'm in England, I've also not yet rooted my S2 (although I probably will, to get rid of the bloatware crap- i.e. Game Hub etc)
We've only got a 2.3.4 official firmware available here. Sometimes this is up to your service provider to release it.
Your other option is to root, and flash an official firmware.
Or take a giant leap and read the INDIAN thread .

why u want to stuck to the old ones when you have the latest firmware, eventhough not for india.....but it works.....
@smilingcruel: Thanks for your reply and I did check the link there. There are loads of them. Which one to install ?
Same question, different country:
I have to revert my S2 to Samsung (annoying echo).
Currently it is on Miui.
I'd like to flash the latest Vodafone Germany version to preserve the secondary binary counter.
Does anybody know whether THIS is the latest and via Kies available version?
If it is not which is the right and latest one?
I got a new S2. Its GSM from Germany. I tried to flash an ICS Theme. But now i got bootloops. I tried to Wipe everything but it doesnt work. I am able to use Odin or Kies. Can somone help me to bring it back to where it was original. without any theme and no root? i got Odin and Kies installed. Where do i get Stock Rom for 1und1 Germany or Stock German rom and how do i install it?
which is the right firmware to download. i dont get it which one is the right one and which one is the newest to use for german language
i got these information from my rom XXKI4, KJ1
Get carrier-specific firmware here or if your carrier isn't listed in that thread get country-specific firmware here. You could also use Checkfus (do a search on here) to get the latest firmware available for your carrier that you'd normally get via Kies.
thanks a lot, but i dont know which one of the country specific is the newest and right one for me. Can you help me out?
Looks like there's only one available in Intratech's official carrier firmware thread for O2 Germany (XWKI1), Checkfus says KI8 is available for O2 Germany (Dated: 22/11/11) assuming you have a I9100 (check the sticker under your battery to make doubly sure.
I don't know which one is more recent as Intra's firmwares don't have dates on them, but I'm guessing the KI8 available thru Checkfus is more recent as this would also be available via Kies. I don't think it will make a great deal of difference which one you use at the end of the day given you don't seem to know which firmware you had on your phone originally. Either will work just fine with your phone I would imagine, provided you definitely have a I9100 or I9100T
Up to you which one you use.

Hi,
I have a Telstra (Australia) Galaxy SII with the version information :
PDA: DVKF4
Phone: DVKF2
CSC: TELKF3
I found the thread which contains the links to a number of different firmwares
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
There are so many version there, I don't know which is appropriate for my phone.
Telstra has not released an update and there seems to be no plans to do so. The phone is still at V2.3.3. Great network, crap customer service......
I would like flash the phone with a genric rom so I can receive updates.
Can anyone advise me on what ROM I should use for Australia?
Any help would be appreciated.

John

Charlie,
Thanks for your reply.
I found the Telstra section and I am still confused.
This is what I found:
Australia
DVKF4: http://www.multiupload.com/UAZPBM0XAS
Firmware info: PDA DVKF4| PHONE DVKF2| CSC:TELKF3
DVKF4 Stock Kernel:http://www.multiupload.com/91ID4RZEMO
Password: [email protected]
What is the difference between the downloads?
I assume the first link is the ROM I currently have in my phone. What is the Stock Kernel?
Regards
John
PS: I need an idiot's guide.

The first link includes the rom (stock im guessing) along with the second link, which is just the kernel.
Are you trying to flash a custom rom, or just official, because the download link rom is probably no different than the one you currently have on your phone. (if you havent flashed any rom yet)
If you are trying to flash a custom rom, I dont think any custom rom allows you to get the official update. (might be wrong)
I see.....
What I am looking for is an official generic ROM that is suitable in Australia.
I used to have an SE X10 before it died and I had a generic ROM flashed from the DaVinci site.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 has a truck load of official ROMs and many Frankenstein ROMs which I assume are the custom ROMs.
My understanding is that if you flash with a generic ROM, you will get official ROMs when they are released by Samsung and you don't have to wait for your doppy carrier to provide a their cutomised version.
Is this correct?
Yes. If you flash one of those official firmwares from either of Intra's threads, you should be able to receive OTA updates via Kies. You can also use a PC app called Checkfus (search for it on here) to get official updates normally available via Kies (if you can't get updates via Kies for some reason).
P.S - For future reference, questions go in Q&A

Dont flash the Frankenstein firmware then:
+++++++[Frankenstein Firmwares]+++++++
These packages below are not official firmware packages, they are Frankenstein package created due to demand for Firmware with different CSC and modems and also leaked firmware packages. KIES will not recognise the firmware so you won't be able to update to new firmware using KIES unless you flash back to a firmware meant for your device first. Otherwise there will always be Odin to use for updates

Hi, Im kind of new to this.
I looked in a couple forums on how to flash the Official ICS rom. but I would like to know can I just pick any official ICS firmware and flash it?
my phone is:
android version- 2.3.6
Baseband version- I9100XXKI1
I know the firmware I have now is the Chinese one but would like to flash the European one. The person I bought the phone off of seemed to have flashed the Chinese firmware 2.3.6 themselves and I couldn't use Kies to update it, not sure if the phone was originally the Chinese firmware or not.
These were the two sites I was looking at to flash it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278&page=2
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
also is there a difference between those websites for the latest ICS firmware?
any help would be appreciated. thank you!

Shouldn't matter. The reason Kies won't update it now though is probably because the original owner flashed a firmware that has a CSC that doesn't match your location/carrier. You should be able to flash any I9100 firmware you wish, as long as it is NOT an I9100G firmware.

Those two are pretty much the same, if you are looking at the same versions. (e.g. XWLP4) They are just hosted on different sites. I think the one on Intratech's thread may have the older bootloaders included instead of the newer ones (newer ones which prevent USB jigs from resetting the binary flash counter), and the one on Faryaab's thread probably has the newer bootloaders, but that should be the only difference.
And that difference probably doesn't matter much, as I believe with ICS, you can use Chainfire's "Triangle Away" app to reset the counter regardless of which bootloaders you have. (but I don't know that info for sure)
Thanks for the help, just flashed it and works great !
