[Q] Copy/paste into music folder is not working - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I can not copy/paste any music (mp3) into the music folder.
I get "Device has either stopped responding or been disconnected".
I then go back, bring up the Movies folder and it pastes into that just fine.
Anyone else having this issue, or should I be uploading music onto my prime in a different manner than opening files and copying/pasting?

Factory rest fixed the issue. I hadn't put muchon this yet so I thought I,d give it a try. I was surprised to see ICS remained. I thought with the reset it would revrt back to honeycomb, but it did not.

I simply can't write to the Music folder. Just tells me it has failed. I can't delete the music files in there. Same goes with the Pictures folder.
What gives?

Just for grins, I tried to paste into my Music folder and had no issues. It's a stock Prime (non-rooted) with ICS. (I used ES File Explorer on the Prime to do the copy.) I even tried it with my music player running with no problems.
Is some syncing program perhaps tying up your Music folder? Hard to believe any syncing program would actually be able to modify your folder permissions. Personally, I'd try stopping Asus Sync (my primary suspect, and I am NOT running it) and perhaps also look at my running tasks and kill anything that has to do with music and try it again.

Mine is stock and right out of the box. Tried copying to the Music folder from USB - and Moving files from SD Card to internal storage using BOTH ES File Explorer and the "pre-loaded" File Manager program.
ES File Explorer tells me "pasting failed" and the File Manager just says "Unable to Paste" or something similar.
I don't have Asus Sync running either and I've rebooted the tablet thinking there was an issue with something holding it up.
I also can not delete the Music files that are pre-installed in that folder nor can I delete the Pictures out of the picture folder!
I dunno?!?!?

I had thought that had something to do with my issue. I was able to delete the preinstalled music songs from the Music folder, but, not really as when I turned my TFP on those files still showed up and played. It was then I tried to load mp3 into the Music folder and I got the error message.
Also, weird, after the factory reset, those preinstalled music songs/files are no longer there. Very odd.
It was only the music file that I had issues with. All other files worked fine. Before I did the reinstall I pasted a few music files into the "Movies", they went in OK and the stock music player, along with the "My Net" app located and played them without issue.
I tried a reboot but it did nothing. It was the factory reset that fixed the issue.
Oh, my TFP is out of box, no root, nothing special otherwise. Sync running.

Has anybody else tried a factory reset to verify this fixes the issue? I am having the same issue that the paste fails when trying to add to the music folder. I don't really want to go through a factory reset since everything else is working just to find out it didn't fix the issue. Thanks.

I wouldn't want to do a factory reset, either.
Try a hard reset (cold boot) instead, and see if that works. Just open up a paper clip and stick it in the little hole just below the microSD card slot on your Prime -- your Prime will reboot. You lose nothing with a hard reset -- and it can do a lot of good. Some folks recommend that you do a hard reset before firmware updates to clean things up and be safe -- I did this before the ICS update.

I figured as much, as you tried everything else! It is still worth a try for others. It seems all of our Primes are acting a little differently.
Just out of curiosity, have any of you looked at the permissions on your Music folder in ES File Explorer? Mine is "drw"... Wondering if some app changed yours to Read only.

Theres no quick fix

I do not have this issue, but when I did a full reset to clear some other issues (successfully) it wasn't all that bad. In fact, if you have selected the choices to backup your Google Account and settings, the worst of it is the wait for apps to re-download. I am not rooted, so could not use Titanium Backup, but the Market did a fine job of restoring my apps. All 170 f them, LOL. Took about 50 minutes. The only items I had to manually set were things like "Allow Unknown Sources" and a few similar items. Less than an hour, AND I have the satisfaction that I now have a "clean" ICS installation.

I did not.
I had not invested a lot of time inputting info and such on my Prime as of yet so, after trying the hard reset to no avail, I just said, **** it, wipe everything and start again.
No problems since.

Hmm reset work?

I have noticed, though, that whenever I copy/paste a mp3 file into the music file it asks if I am sure I want to continues as "Your device may not be able to play or view this file."
Anyone else get this?

Yes, I get that with my Nexus as well. It's just windows being windows. I think it has something to do with the new file system as I never got it with my Thunderbolt or, my original TF.
Haven't had a file copy over that hasn't played so I just hit the continue button.

just an update.
My friend's Prime encountered the same problem. He couldn't upload any files into the "Music" directory.
After checking out this thread, I told him to do a factory rest, and It worked.
Now problem solved. So anyone has same problem, the factory reset do work.

Here's what I did when I couldn't copy and paste into the music folder. I just deleted the music folder, named the new folder Music with my new music in it and copied and pasted the entire folder in place of the stock music folder and it worked just fine. Did the same thing with the movie folder too.

I renamed the two folders and created new ones with the original names. It seems fine, but I can't delete the old folders.

checked the properties of the music folder. It is set to read and write. I was also able to rename it. Still wont let me delete it though. oh well, if this is the only problem I end up having with my prime I will b extremely happy.

Patched Gallery3D app, anybody tried it ?

Speaking about this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752007
More information about it here: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/patched-gallery3d-for-higher-resolution/
Since this app is included in the Samsumg rom, we would have to flash it. Anyone willing to be the guinea pig and see if it works (and is worth it) ?
Guinea pig here. Does nothing but a FC loop.
- oh well, thanks for trying at least !
Flashing doesn't work on I9000 either, but the .apk works. You just have to uninstall the existing gallery3d with root explorer, and then reboot, go to settings-manage applications and unintall the leftovers of the gallery. Then install the .apk with astro or similar.
I only did he update. I am going to try the longer way in a bit to test.

So, I was able to get the updated Gallery3dm.apk loaded onto my Vibrant. Using AndroidMate, I copied the original \system\app\gallery3d.apk to my SDcard (as a backup), then deleted the \system\app\gallery3d.apk from my system + the corresponding ODEX file. Reboot. Next, I copied the Gallery3dm.apk (updated version) from my SDcard to \system\app, selected it, and chose Install. Worked fine.
My thoughts? It does have a higher quality when you zoom in, but it seems to have some drawbacks too -- like VERY low-res versions of the files upon first load (and after, it seems), some display strangness (graphic tearing), and the occasional lag. Most of all, the difference is not THAT noticeable. You can check out the *before* and *after* attachments I've uploaded.
I'll be going back to the original Gallery3D.apk for now, but I sincerely hope that Samsung (or whoever) can figure out how to allow for crisp zooming in.
Thanks,
Yip
Were you able to switch back to the old gallery?
(On i9000):
I've tried putting my backup copy of Gallery3D.apk (and odex) into /system/app but it doesn't do anything (doesn't appear in apps menu etc).
If I click on the Gallery3D.apk to try install it, it asks if I want to replace existing system application (yes) but ends up with "Application not installed".
It seems I'll have to stick to the Gallery3Dm till my next FW flash.
Edit:
Oh nvm, seems a reboot did the trick

Wow! The reboot did it for you, eh? Trust me... I rebooted *several* times, but no luck. Finally had to restore from backup. Oh, well...

[Q] NC Browser.apk

For reasons I'm too embarrassed to admit (ok, ok, I'm a moron and ow'ed without backing it up first), I need the stock Browser.apk that comes with the NC. Anyone happen to know where I can get it?
Thanks a million,
-LB
Man, loosing the ability to browse reduces this thing no next to nothing..
Here ya go... but you should just install Dolphin instead
I don't suppose anybody has the stock 'Games' apk's like Chess, Crossword, Sudoku or whatever else came stock with it?
my nC factory reset itself and now they are missing.. yes, it had an 'authentication error' when I tried to access the b&n default Home screen and said 'Your device needs to be reset', then it rebooted and performed a factory reset on itself.
Oh thanks! That worked perfectly. I have some more cleaning up to do, but at least I can browse now...
Thanks again!

Standard Games
Here are the three standard install games. If you lost all the standard software which was loaded in the /system/app directory, someone will need to create a zip file.

[Q] Having trouble restoring stock Music Player

When I installed the latest google music, I renamed MusicPlayer.apk to MusicPlayer.apk.bak, effectively uninstalling it.
I want to go back, as the default music player is the only one that's ever been capable of displaying the track title/etc on my Mazda's little display screen.
When I rename the file back to MusicPlayer.apk, nothing changes. Tried placing a clean copy of the stock MusicPlayer apk in /system/app, that didn't work either. Tried it using ADB, using a file explorer on the phone itself, nada.
Halp?
Confirm that the permissions are correct (rw-r-r), and reboot. Beyond that, idk.
Yeah, I did chmod 644 before rebooting. :-/
Reflash ROM without wipe?
Wow. This is a new level of stupidity on my part.
Somehow, it'd gotten hidden in my go launcher settings. it may have been there the entire time, for all i know.
Thanks to those who tried to help me. Clearly I'm beyond any sort of human intervention. Gonna go hide in a hole and try not to break things now.

mp3's will not play on any music player? SOLVED

Solved: See last post
Running Cleanrom ACE 4.5 wiping caches, factory reset and Wiping SYSTEM (could this have anything to do with it?)
Everything appears to be working fine.
Tried to play my mp3 un-protected files with 4 or 5 music players (including the stock google music player) and I get "The player does not support this type of audio file"
Tried clearing data/cash for each player, no luck.
Mp3's have played before but have not played in awhile and now they will not play.
Any one else having this problem or have a solution?
Thanks!
Try 'fix permission' in custom recovery. Easy fix.

Good idea but did not fix it. There is a switch off or a codec missing. I also discovered it will not play .wma files either.

Yes, afraid so...
I've flashed Beans, Clear Rom, went back to stock...all several times without it being able to recognize mp3 files.
Solved! I found I had an mp3 ringtone on my sdcard0 that played okay...mmmm.
After lots of testing I found that for some unknown reason my Music folder on my extsdcard was corrupted. That's why they kept failing to play through lots of flashing and even going back to stock...duh. I deleted the music folder and all the files, did a chkdisk on my computer, re-copied mp3 files back to a new Music folder and all working now.
Bottom line, unexplained activity, after doing logical checks suspect the extsdcard!!

Accidentally Deleted Bluetooth Share?

The problem:
I rooted my Galaxy Ace and installed an app called Root Cleaner. Though it did a good job on cleaning up the internal memory, the app also had an option to uninstall system and non-system apps. It so happened that I accidentally tapped on Bluetooth Share and it got uninstalled without asking any confirmation. Now, whenever I try to send a file via Bluetooth, it simply gets queued and refuses to be sent.
//pics go here, unable to submit them due to 10 post limitation...
So I realized I messed up. I had to find a way to re-install Bluetooth Share.
What I tried to do:
I rooted my friend's Galaxy Ace (both of them are 2.3.6), compared the programs in /system/app and sure enough BluetoothPbap.apk was missing from my list. So I copied the .apk onto my sd card, then copied it to the /system/app directory. Total Commander asked me for rw permissions, I just pressed ok and the file got copied. I tried installing the .apk, but I simply got "Application not installed". I looked around for ways of re-installing system apps, but one page suggested simply leaving the .apk in the /app folder and re-staring the phone. After doing so Bluetooth Share was back on the system app list, yet it is still unable to send any files.
Sooo... Help? What I suspect right now is that the .apk file I got might be in some way incompatible with my device, though I got it from and Ace with the same version of Android, could this really be the case? Any advice is welcome.
Oh, and another interesting thing. After doing everything mentioned above, I tried deliberately uninstalling Bluetooth Share and reinstalling it. The BluetoothPbap.apk disappears from /system/app, but when I paste it in and try to install it, It asks if I want to replace the application. In other words, It's asking me if I want to replace something that isn't installed, so I have no idea how to explain this.
