Problem with Whatsapp - Nokia Lumia 800

Is it me or anyone else having issues with whatsapp.
Sometimes it just does not notify me of a new msg, until I open the application (whatsapp). Probably, I guess its a glitch on the application side and not with Windows 7.5.. just comfirming, if others too are facing the same problem?!

same here with kik (whatsapp like)
if the lumia is on standby mode I receive new messages only when I unlock the screen and open the app

hmm.. seems like windows stops the installed application on standy mode... as the integrated mail system works fine.

I don't know if it's right or these apps aren't mango optimized
I have spotify streaming great even with the screen locked

same here ... i also think the start up is very slow

I have noticed this problem after the whatsapp update for group chat...

alright so its almost confirmed its the problem with the software and not our windows mango.. hope the developers tries to fix it, if its fixable..

how is the battery drain after installing whatsapp.
I had installed whatsapp sometime back on my Nokia E71 and it completely trashed the battery (I mean 100 to 0 in 2 hrs without even using the phone sometimes)
So is the version of whatsapp for wp7 better to battery

well Haven't noticed any significant drain..

I didn't notice battery draining but i have some issues too. It does notify new message also when the application is closed but when i open it i can sit down and wait till the next day to see the new message. I can say after a month experience that it works very bad.

WhatsApp for WP7 is glitchy and I think it does impact the battery. The developer really need to fix and optimize it better.

Yes, it seems to eat up the battery like crazy. My Lumia has pretty mediocre battery life already, but WhatsApp makes it even worse. Today I unplugged at 100%, sent 5 messages, received 7, and then left it alone. Less than an hour later I came back to find that my battery is now at 85%.
Not to mention that messages (on EDGE, mind you), take at least 10 minutes to deliver/receive. On WiFi it's almost instantaneous.

battery is still great after whatsapp.
have you ever used an android? battery does not last more than 24 hours.
anyway lets hope dev fix whatsapp asap. some times i do not receive new sms till i start application.

Not sure about the battery issue. But I did notice a few things about WhatsApp.
1. It does receive messages when its lying on my desk, if you have the tile for this enabled. Not sure if works with Tile disabled.
2. It only picks up Windows live phone numbers, and not FB phone numbers, even though both numbers are visible in the contact list and available in other apps, e.g. Voxofon, etc.
3. Battery issue, yes it does seem to consume a little extra battery with this app.
IMO, the app is not really optimised for WP environment, and is just a quick place-holder port onto this OS.
I really hope they update the app to fix the issue with accessing the FB numbers from Contact list.
EDIT:
Another suggestion for WhatsApp developers will be to use an IM service gateway, so that the WhatssApp messaging can be integrated into the beautiful messaging system in WP by just adding an account into the email/accounts menu.
This will allow users to seamlessly switch from text to WhatsApp to FB and so on, without losing the thread.

There's a new update for Whatsapp.

Another Problem.. dont know How did i missed to mention it, the first time...
is anyone able to open the received pictures from whatsapp..?!!

Yes, pictures send/receive works fine. If on G it takes forever, fast and seamless on 3G/WiFi.

G2 (Hero) runnins slow - apps not closing / opening themselves

Hi guys,
Have had my Hero just over a month now and love the thing to bits...
The one thing (battery life aside) that pees me off though is that the phone can be slow at times...
It seems to stem from apps either opening themselves and running in the background, or not closing properly when I select to close them.
I seem to spend half my time using the phone in TaskKiller getting rid of everything that shouldn't be running before I can do anything.
Has anyone got any smart ideas on how I can improve the problems above?
I've also noticed when I switch the phone off and back on a) it improves things slightly, but b) it also runs lots of things that I don't need open so is there a way to stop things running on start up?
Thanks for the help guys.
To show you what I mean, I just restarted the phone and killed everything except:
WaveSecure Beta
com.google.android.apps.mapssomething that goes off the screen) - can't kill this
HTC Sense
Touch Input
com.htc.provider
Go back to it 10 minutes later and I also have the following open:
Settings
vizBattery
Wi-Fi Status
Google Mail
Thats without me touching it at all.... if I had also used the Twitter app, Facebook, messaging etc then they would all still be open, the browser and music player would probably be there too.
It's normal fo it to start some apps on its own, for example peep (htc's twitter program) the music player (only if you have a widget on one of the homescreens)
same goes for calander etc etc google mail is push so it has to be opened to recieve messaged realtime.
Things like batterystatus thingy's often drain your battery and sometimes slow down your device I suggest removing that.
Also I don't know about wifi status but can imagine that draining battery to since
I don't think that will be running without your wifi being on. When continuosly searching for networks your device also will slow down, and drain the battery
My english isn't perfect so I hope you understand what I'm saying.
edit: do you use the official t-mobile rom or a custom? Don't know if htc released the last update for t-mob devices. That update really improved almost everything
so if you don't have that it's ''normal'' for the device to lag.
Some apps register themselves to start automatically. Obviously Gmail needs to run if you're syncing a Gmail account.
There's at least one app (paid) that can override this - I believe it is called Startup Auditor.
However, for the most part, it doesn't really matter since many of the apps that appear to be "running" will not be consuming any CPU time (and by extension battery life) unless they are designed to run in the background.
In addition, as Stafflover has already said, I'd also suggest you try removing vizBattery - whilst I've no specific experience with this app, I've heard that many battery status widgets drain the battery significantly.
Regards,
Dave

Hey Pal! I had the same problem then I got into a bit of app development and understood. Some service need to be "broadcasting" and some other to be "listening". Best you can do is sometimes tell them how often to "wake up and check". But if you think about it, a program MUST be checking on a few things, at least sometimes, to give you the "android experience". Also, no matter how much you care about that number you see in the "free ram" widget (assunming you use taskiller with the widget), it is not very important until it REALLY does slow your phone down. Some apps are worse than others at clogging up or draining your battery: try them, weigh how useful they really are for you and then decide what to keep (running) Ciao!

[Q] Anyone use Viber?

I have installed this app, and is working very well, I can call and recive and its great
Buut, there is something that I dont understand. I only want to be "online" sometimes, because when viber is On is consuming quite battery. So I go to more-> Exit. I close the app and the icon in the notification bar dissapear. But, 15 seconds after that, the icon appear again and says "viber connected". Even If the icon does not appear, they can call me so the app still active. How can I close?? because I want to save battery...I dont need to be all time online
other thing: I only use wifi for internet, dont have 3g. So, when I disconnect to any network, the viber status appear like "Viber dissconected", its normal, but I want to know If Viber still consuming my battery or not?
To finish, I have to say that I can notice the battery drain but If I go to android settings->Battery status-> what is using my battery-> here dont appear Viber, only Wifi, brightness, etc...
Thank you guys for the help
i always have viber (together with whatsapp and textfree) on when i'm on wifi and it seems to only have minimal battery drain. and it doesn't seem to be affecting my battery when it's disconnected or with wifi off.
Hi @Javi V12
This is a member of the Viber dev team.
First, as far as we know, Viber doesn't consume much battery when idling. You can test it and show us the actual numbers, and you'll see that battery drain is minimal.
About the notification bar - the new version in Market, Viber 2.0.2, has an "Exit" button that closes Viber and prevents Viber from running again. The reason you are still getting calls/texts while Viber is shut off is thanks to the C2DM mechanism (Google), that opens up applications upon certain triggers.
Thank you very much for your help.
Ok maybe the drain during idle is not too excessive, does exist drain but is normal. But I want to know, should Viber appear in the battery stats or not?
And, I can exit the app as you say, it's a good function, thank you. So if I exit the app, will consume any battery or not? Btw, even if I exit they can call me but only if I have the screen unlocked. It's strange, I suppose the reason is the c2dm that you say.
@Javi V12
You are welcome!
Viber should not appear in battery stats (just like other apps don't, at least in the devices we checked).
About C2DM - it should work even when your phone is locked (that's practically its point). We've just tested it here again on several devices, and found that it works fine.
Do you not get Viber calls/texts when your Viber is shut off, and the phone is locked?
Which device? Which Android version? (or ROM)
this might be a little out of place, but was hoping someone from the viber team can tell me if there's any social networking sites for viber where i can see the network status? viber has been down the whole morning and i hv no idea why.
based in Malaysia, on Moto Defy 2.2.2
Sure there is, on Facebook
http://www.facebook.com/viber --> we provide updates and statuses on Facebook around the clock there (and you can also consult with other users to compare problems). I recommend you to follow us there, but for more in depth discussions about Viber, you should still post messages here on XDA.
About the problem this morning - we're having temporary issues with our server - we're working hard to fix it right now. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope it will be back up and running soon.

Excellent support from you guys. I never thought viber support exist here. Great thanks for you guys and hope viber rocks in future too. Good luck.
Hello Viber Team, I'm just wondering will it ever be a way to recognize if the other viber user is on viber or not, smth like when the user is not connected and I want to call him, the viber tell me this user is not on viber now.
I hope you will understand my questions, sorry for the bad english.

Yes, there will be such option in the future (online indicator).
In the meanwhile, you can know whether or not the user is online in an indirect way: if you call someone and you see "Ringing..", that means that his phone is literally ringing - meaning he's online. If you only see "Calling.." then the user is probably offline.
If you get a message that the user doesn't have Viber installed (while you know he clearly does), then try the following workaround:
Enter Viber and find a person you know has Viber in the "All" contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he's recognized as a Viber user now.
If it doesn't work, please try manually dialing the number in its FULL format (including the "+" sign, the country code, area code, etc.)

You can't, stupid Windows OS doesn't allow it for some reason.
Same to my phone
its really annoying with all IM programs... a slow 3g makes it even worse, if you are lucky, you can read the push notification, if you are not...well then you have to wait 5 minutes to read it
WhatsApp is crap on WP.
But it's not that bad for me. Push notifications always work. I get the messages quickly. Thing is when opening WhatsApp it can take like 5 seconds for the message to show up in the thread. Laggy as hell.
For that reason I have switched to Kik Messenger. Works much better on WP than WhatsApp.

I tried kik too, but it never loaded messages for me
Whatsapp is indeed extremely poorly coded. I'm still wondering how it passed the certification considering its general sluggishness, its ugly design (come on, look at the thread bubbles) and its high CPU utilization (it really taxes the battery a lot).
I noticed the delays can either come from the network (slow 2G or 3G, or simultaneous 3G+Wi-Fi poor handling) or Whatsapp servers. The worse I've seen is 12 hours delay (overnight in fact). The notifications work just fine though.

I don't see why it is an MSFT issue. The OS is way more reactive and polished than Android. They're tons of quality apps - Whatsapp isn't just one.
I have whatsapp and have no issue with it, over 3g or wifi

[Q] [HELP] Skype heavy battery drain

I had some problems with battery time as many other here. Barely made it from 07 in the morning to 21 at the evening, with just 1-1,5 hours screen time.
Tried almost everything, without luck. Then i tried to log out and close Skype, and now battery live is much better, 14 hours with 3,5 hour screen time, and steel 40% left.
It looks like Skype just runs all the time, draining battery. Apps like BetterBatteryStats or Badass Battery Monitor don't show anything.
Is there no push mode in skype? If i close it, i don't get any messages.
Anyone else has this problem with Skype?
Skype is a P2P protocol based on a filesharing application dating years back.
So there is no real central infrastructure over which all your messages are routed as used e.g. by MSN, ICQ, IRC Servers, ...
However, as usual, some smart people have come to the rescue of us poor batterie-draining users; IM+ (Pro)
http://shape.ag/en/products/details.php?product=im&platform=android
You can configure it to connect to most protocols you might use (MSN, Skype, ICQ, Facebook Chat, ...) and set it to go to Push mode.
Their servers will then login for you and send a Google C2DM notification to your mobile whenever someone sends you a message - simple and very battery-friendly.
I've been using IM+ Pro on the S1 where it's the only viable method since there simply is not enough memory to keep Skype running in the background.
Additionally Skype on Android is somewhat flaky - I often don't get messages sent to me while the 3. party apps work just fine.
not sure but it says here
permissions denied app
The permission we want to block from Skype is the coarse location permission.

Does the im+ method still work?
Or is there another method for stopping Skype battery drain?
Cheers
I've been using Skype on my LG G2 and it's horrendous!
It keeps draining the battery with constant wake locks and sometimes my phone is held awake by this one app for as much as 4 hours!

I've used What's App before and I agree it's pretty good but I like being able to use Skype both on my desktop and on mobile.
Also, it would be difficult to convince everybody on my Skype to switch to What's App especially work contacts.

What i do is set a data restriction on the app so my messages only come throught when it is in the forground ( when i am actively using it)
I also use this on bbm and certain apps which use data in the background this drastically improves battery life when running on 3/4g

Whatsapp background task seems to stop working in 14393.448

Hello all.
I think a lot of people had some kind of problems with whatsapp in windows phone, but ultimately they were just a minnor annoyance.
However, since the last 2 updates of whatsapp (the ones which adds Status), the backround task stops working after a small while.
I have marked Whatsapp to run always under lockscreen, but this doesn't seem to be working.
For instance, I enabled and watched the phone' web portal looking for the WhatsApp.ServerHost.exe. After a while, it disappears and Whatsapp Web just says "Phone not connected".
However, if I go to the "Apps" in the same web portal, and launch whatsapp, it of course comes back to life, and Whatsapp Web works again.
Is there a way to make it work ALWAYS?
I mean, anything else besides that setting that I've mentioned. I guess I could write a simple c# in my PC (or even better, in the phone) doing this, but thats a waste of processing power.
Thanks in advance!!
PS: My phone is a Lumia 1020 @ 14393.448, it has 2GB of RAM and I dont think it closes the applications because ram is low...
is global problem for all WP/WM devices and OS. be patient...
Yes, I know since I used WP phones for about 4 years or se. But the last update was a real killer, thats the point of the post.
notification seems working again
looks like it was a server problem cz it's working very good without an update
Um here seems to still quit working randomly. It works for about 10 or 20 minutes when the phone is locked. I've developed a small tool that launches whatsapp if it sees the service is not running (using the web portal of the phone). That makes the whatsapp web happy for a while, but im getting tired of this.
Oh and by the way, the notifications seems to be working OK, but the problem resides in the whatsapp web, which shows "phone not connected" (as I stated in the first post)
