Hey Guys,
So I just received my prime and I updated it to ICS. I opened up the camera app to play with it and both cameras work. But about 20 minutes later I open up the camera app and I see a bunch of green lines in the "viewfinder". It then forceclosed.... I now am unable to open the camera app. I have tried to video chat and only the frontfacing camera works. I have also tried to use "Retro Camera" and it does not work either. I did a factory reset and nothing changed...

Any ideas?

rear camera not working after firmware update???
I'm having the same issue. I received my 32gb Gold prime from amazon yesterday and immediately update to ICS and camera update and now experiencing the same issue as your. I did not test the camera before the update and so i'm not sure if the update cause it or if the camera was bad right out of the box. I did factory reset twice but the problem still remains
Looks like you guys both need to send them back in for replacement.
That sucks. The sooner we get bootloader unlocked the better.

ASUS response: Um...yeah...some update screw up the camera...we are sorry, we know the problem. We are going to update our spec to say that the cameras does not exist. Please ignore the 2 lens sticking out from your tablet. Thank you for buying our product.
Same problem
Anyone found a fix? I have the exact same issue. I will try to restore it to factory default settings tonight and let you know if it helps.
Just to test, has anyone with this issue tried to clear the data from the camera app... settings > apps > camera
OR, try and download a different camera app and test and see and if it works. I use Camera Zoom personally and not the stock camera.
Guys......there is a firmware update specifically for the camera. Go into settings and check for updates. If nothing shows up you will have to wait until Asus posts direct links on the site. I'm surprised I'm the only one that knows us.
Your not the only one who knows this. I have received 2, maybe 3 in total.
But, I assumed they already got their updates as the moment you turn on your device, these are shown to you so you cannot miss them when they come around. If they went to ICS, they should have gotten a notice for the camera at the same time. There was another under HC as well.

Good point. Now the question is if you guys have gotten the camera update as well?
Update
I just did a factory reset and it doesn't work. Its weird that I cannot find many cases of this happening from forums online, so here are a few details that might help clarify things:
First, yes I have upgraded to the latest firmware and tried clearing the data for the camera and anything that could even remotely be related (media processes etc). And yes I have tried using other apps that use the camera, and it still doesnt work.
Second, the camera worked before. It worked prior to and after the ICS upgrade, and prior to/after the firmware upgrade for the camera. It just stopped one day for no reason.
Lastly, its only the rear facing camera. Most of the time it is just a blank black screen, but every once in a while it comes up with a green screen with what looks like the ghost of some of my desktop icons. Ill post a screen shot.
I would really rather not have to send in my TFP but im starting to come to the realization I may have to. Its frustrating because I know it worked after the most recent update, so it must be a software issue and not an issue with the camera itself. 2 weeks is a long time to live without my baby...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Android version: 4.0.3
Camera Version:TF201-0x9900
If you cleared data, reset, tried other cams, updated firmware, what more can one do? Sorry man it sounds like some sort of defect.
firmware
Does doing a factory reset re-install my camera firmware? Is there anyway I can reset to prior to the ICS or camera firmware update and reinstall it?
No, once firmware is onboard it is onboard, it is not undone via a reset.
One last update
One last update on my problems. Got off the phone with ASUS a while ago and they had me do a full data wipe. Volume down/power and everything. Didn't fix the issue. Gave me an RMA and a sad heart for two weeks.
Looks like Ive joined the ranks of those who had a problem with my TFP. Shucks, things were going so well...
Best buy
I have spoken with Best Buy, and they are willing to send me a new one when they are in stock.... I didn't want to mess with Asus and this way, I won't need to send mine in.

Maybe if we both return ours to bestbuy at the same time they will just swap them . I have a skinomi on mine, Im going to call ASUS and see if I can avoid removing my bubble free masterpiece.
Hey guys did anyone find a fix for this ? I just got this problem.. or do i really have to contract asus..
Same prob. Here and I just try to correct it with rom manager and reset permisions. A downgrade to honeycomb doesen't helped 'cause the camera firmware dosen't go down, so there is no way to correct it, so i wolud say that the driver's a broken...
Not sure how I missed this thread before.
The exact same thing happened to me. Called ASUS, they had be send it to them (at my expense, of course). Sent it in late January, sat in TX "waiting for repair/testing" according to the RMA status site. After a month of nothing being done I sent an upset but not irate email, and they "fixed" it and sent it out the next day. Got my tablet back a few days later (roughly March 1st), everything was working fine. Now, not even three weeks later, the problem is happening again. I called, they want to fix it again. At least they're paying for shipping this time, supposedly.

I read about if you do a factory reset (which i absolutely will not do) gets it working again, or getting a new camera app works. But is there any other option out there im missing.

If you are running a rom, you can try flashing it again without a factory reset.
no im not rommed up .. all stock
so i really dunno wut to do
From another forum, seems a hard reset brings it back. Something to do with not updating the camera firmware when asked.
woudl u happen to know how to roll back to 2.1 so i can re-update again to make sure i check for the camera update i somehow missed ?! lol
Try this before rolling back.

yeah, this exact thing happened to a lady friend of mine a short while back. Verizon's solution is to give her a previously sold but "new" phone with working camera but not upgradable. She'll have a camera but will lose all her software. That which she had pre-2.2 she tells me is mostly unavailable now, and the 2.2 software won't install on 2.0 or 2.1 OS. Verizon also told her that she couldn't flash back to factory (2.0 or 2.1) because it was no longer on her phone as it was replaced with 2.2 rom. When she did try to flash the 2.2 again, it wouldn't do it saying she already had it on her phone. Being an update/upgrade it appears it looks for an earlier version. I don't know. I'm totally ignorant on all things Android. I'm just trying to help her out in hopes there is a working solution that Verizon or Samsung don't want people to know about, for whatever reason. Let me know if you found it.
For anyone searching this problem, the easiest solution (all thanks to Fallen4u) is to purchase ($4), download, and install Camera 360 Ultimate (Pro version no longer available on Market, afaik). This will basically replace your broken camera software (where it just sits on "please wait" - until the cows come home after jumping over the moon) with working software that brings camera back to life. It also gives you many more fun possibilities from what my lady friend showed me this evening.
Hi folks,
I noticed today that my prime's camera has gone from being awesome to broken. I *think* it coincides with the most recent firmware update - I thought it was called 9.4.2.1.1, but under "about tablet" it's called 9.4.2.11 - but I can't be sure. The last good picture I took was on the 21st.
I'm attaching an example of what I see when I try to use the camera. I tried taking a picture anyway, but all I got was a solid green picture. I'll also note that the front-facing camera is working just fine, that clearing app data didn't help, using a market camera app didn't help, and rebooting didn't help.
Anyone else having this problem? Or insight related to it?
Have you tried a hard reset? May be your only option..? Assuming of course that you rebooted...
Yeah, factory reset didn't help. Called asus, they're having me send it in.
Wife got home since I posted, and hers (same firmware and software) had no issue. It's really too bad, I had no complaints otherwise, which seemed to put me in a smaaaall minority around here.
Shoot.. Sorry that happened.. Care to share the serials (either bb, bc or c1) of both your primes with us?
---------- Post added at 10:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 PM ----------
Oh, and i'm not saying HIT, but possibly tap the actual camera on the back, maybe something jarred loose?
Mine's in the BKOCAS family, not sure about hers. Both are from the Seattle area, mine purchased from gamestop on 12/23, hers from Best Buy delivered on 12/24.
Same issue with a C1
Try reflashing the firmware as it makes you re-install the camera firmware if i remember rightly ...
Download the update from http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF201/#download Under "Firmware"
Choose the correct firmware for you region.
Once downloaded, extract the zip inside the zip (yeah they zipped up a zip ...)
Place that zip file on the Root of your MicroSD card and pop it in the prime.
A little triangle will appear on the notifications bar (bottom right), press it and accept the warnings etc, but itll allow you to reflash the firmware.
You will of course loose anything you have on the tablet.
I am also having this issue since the first update and i am now on .14 and still occurs.
Works fine on skype and front facing but doesnt work on rear camera.
It used to work on the rear camera through GTalk but now that doesn't work either.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
Also have rear camera problems. Just discovered this recently but it could have been affected from an earlier update. Currently on .15. This doesn't seem to be a widespread issue but I hope they fix it in a later update rather than have to send it to them for who knows how long.
Wow! This sucks!
I do not have this problem with the newest update, hate to see it happening.
Factory resets didn't work, how about the hard reset through the pin-hole near the mSD slot?
And as already mentioned, although you'll lose your data, you should try re-flashing the firmware once it's available as a download.
Cough another one up with green camera issue. It was working with the new firmware but out of the blue it just stopped working. Time to find that 510 number and give Asus a call.
Has anyone tried the camera since the update? The main back-facing camera is all screwed up. Display is scrambled and sometimes reboots the prime. The front-facing camera works OK though. This is frustrating.
Bootloader still locked and unrooted.
My camera is working fine after the update. Have you tried rebooting the Prime? Have you tried resetting the Camera app by deleting its data? Other than that the only things you might try are a factory reset and if that doesn't help, RMA the Prime.
mine works fine

What the other guys said. Go into settings -> Apps -> All -> Camera -> Clear Cache/Data then hit force close. Then try the app again, if its still the same then you might have to factory reset.
RMA
Thanks for all the replies. After soft and hard resets, problem persists. I noticed others are having the same issue w/ the camera and I don't think it's related to the OTA update. It's a coincidence I noticed it after the update since I haven't touched the camera in months.
Called ASUS and sending the tablet back for repair.
I have the same exact issue. So there is nothing else i can do except RMA? I really dont want to part with the tablet for over a month.

It could really just be Software problem. I wouldn't send it in. I'd say unlock bootloader and flash Primalicious ROM.

Oh, nhf, but this is a bit odd and a risky advice...
There is a method to check if this is a hardware problem - if you can temporarily repair picture with light squeezing/pressing around camera (front and back) than it's definitely not a software problem.

He said it started happening after update to .21 so i really doubt it's a hardware malfunction. Something like this happened to my Galaxy Nexus after doing an OTA update to 4.0.4. I had the bootloader locked and unrooted. Yet after doing the update several things were messed up, including the camera having colorful lines all over. Then, i unlocked my bootloader and flashed a stock rooted ROM and all was well. Yes it may seem odd, but it did work for me. And yes i know its a completely different device, but his experience was kinda similar to mines. I'm thinking that somehow somewhere during the OTA update, something went wrong.
It's a widespread issue.

Some custom kernels have a problem with the highest resolution for the front camera due to memory allocation. Go to settings / applications / all and clear data for camera.
Load up the camera switch to the front one and check its working.
If it is don't select the highest resolution for the front camera use the middle one.
If that doesn't work maybe another problem.
Please state what rom and kernel versions you are running, more info the better.

Appears to be a S3 problem specificically, camera failure problems. Google ' galaxy s3 camera failed ' and there are numerous reports ranging.
from only a day old out of the box to a couple of weeks. Some reports of total failure, some hardware restart temporarily fixed, some app sharing hardware such as skype hogging the camera.
I think Verizon in the US are saying return for replacement..
Hope this helps.
Having the same problem. I thought it might have been an app I installed - I uninstalled all apps that used the camera. Still no dice. Did a factory reset. Still no dice.
Called Verizon and explained that I'd already tried a factory reset to no avail. The service rep didn't ask me to do anything else. Because I've full device insurance coverage I'm getting a new phone overnighted and should have it no later than 3pm tomorrow.

I had the same issue and tried factory reset, 3rd party camera apps. nothing worked even updated camera firmware and phone firmware still black screen with camera fail. I took off the battery cover, removed the battery, removed the phillips screws in back. carefully popped off back housing and the camera flex cable is right there. i simply unclipped and reconnected it and made sure the camera was seated tight by pushing on it.(carefully as not to damage lcd). I will say i have no warranty because i bought second hand but the are no void stickers over screws so no way to tell its been opened. camera works perfect now. I repair phones as a hobby and remebered the galaxy one having a speaker issue just like it. anyway worth a shot or if you have a warranty just get a replacement but it took me about 3 minutes,
Camera fail
I would like to update the post with my findings:
Since my last post, I did a warranty exchange on the phone. Upon receiving the new one, I reverted the broken one back to stock through the tutorial on XDA (using a prev leak bootchain, ODIN flash, etc).
All went flawlessly, and after reverted to pure stock, the camera worked again. I re-rooted and re-flashed a variety of ROMs (ASOP & TW). camera worked fine through all of it. It wasn't until I did play store updates that things went bad. After the updates the camera stopped working again. So Once again I flashed back to stock. Camera worked again. I felt comfortable doing this as I could re-produce the problem and solution.
After fooling with app updates etc I determined that the Google Talk / Goog Hangouts update was the culprit. Once that was installled the camera was inaccessible. I have since not taken that update (been a few weeks now) and all is still fine.
moral of the story to folks out there, watch out for the Hangouts update. I dont have any more info than that. Just wanted to share.

I would just like to share my experience, it may help someone... I also had this problem and fixed similar to desc. above... I had taken apart phone and cleaned out mostly all of my connectors because of water damage/corrosion issues.. I suppose I had bent the cam ribbons slightly out of place... this in turn, for some reason maybe somebody with more knowledge can answer, caused the phone to no longer power up or show any sign of life... I could not figure out and ended up paying my deductable for new phone... I knew it was specifically related to me removing the cam because I had already cleaned and got phone to a working state, but the cam didnt work so I took apart again cleaned cam port and voilĂ my phone stopped powering up completely... wtf! sooooo I just recently went back after reading above, and dramatically bent the cam ribbons to make sure contact was good... now everything works.. ya live and learn

No no I sent the refurb one back to vzw. Had a lot of bad luck with factory refurbs.
i know this may be a necro thread, but I just had the same issue and I solved it by replacing the front facing camera/prox sensor assembly. tried new main cameras first but when those didn't fix it I replaced the front facing and everything worked fine.

I fixed it on my SGH-T999L with Jedi Invasion 5 by flashing this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Use the Touchwiz JELLYBEAN 4.1.2 VERSION
I'm brand new to this forum, but my uncle has been a member since 2008 and says you guys are the best when it comes to helping with problems for Android.
I'm having the camera issue, as well, and it spans across all camera apps, snapchat, Skype, etc. I just now discovered the front facing camera works when before it wouldn't even let me switch to it, making me think both cameras were dead. I've tried a different ROM, kernel, battery pulls, rebooting, everything in the list. I even dismantled my phone and pressed the connection in a bit, and still no luck. (Thankfully I didn't completely wreck my phone, though.) I'm trying switching from a different developer now, since I was using the only two TouchWiz ROMs I could find for my Cricket d2cri, both by the same guy. I'm hoping against hope it's an issue with the guy's programming and that it's not a sudden hardware failure after nearly a year of having the phone.
If anyone happens across this thread and has any ideas that haven't been said as to what I can do, please, throw me a message or respond to the thread. What good is a phone without a camera these days?

I got "camera fail" after i flashed ArchiDroid 1.7.2 coming from PAC nightly. Then flashed ArchiDroid 2.2.4 and camera got fixed. All flashes where clean
In my experience, custom ROMs and kernels can also cause this issue. I flashed a different custom ROM and voila, my camera was working again

I HAVE THE PROBLEM OF CAMERA FAIL WARNING IN S5 SENSATION ROM
I AM USING S3 Gt i9300 IS THERE ANY SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM
THE CAMERA DOESNT WORK ONLY IN S5 SENSATION ROM
That is usually caused after flashing a custom kernel without having opened the camera app at least once with the stock kernel.
Go back to stock kernel, open the camera and it should work. Now flash the custom kernel and don't do a factory reset or you'll be in the same again
Which kernel you using? If you on 4.4.2 i recommended Archi Kernel.

Hello!
So yesterday ive tried to take a picture on my phone and the camera wouldnt work. Screen is usually black and sometimes goes green also pops the error message saying that cannot connect to camera.
Ive tried doing a factory reset (couple times) didnt work.
Ive tried dialing * # * # 64663 # * # * and doing those tests, sometimes 1 back camera and 1 front camera would work but really incosistent.
Ive checked for updates (none avalible)
Ive tried downloading some others apps used for camera, doesnt work.
Phone is pretty new (maybe a month) and this is the first issue ive had so far, phone was never dropped or similar.
Thanks!
try to go to service center, it looks like hardware issue. they will not charge u money since it new.
Also i forgot, to make things clearer, ive seen a thread about this here already https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/help/pocophone-f1-camera-issue-green-black-t3848981 and the symptoms are the same.
Will go to the shop for a replacement or a fix in a week, untill then if someone has any ideas.. :]

have you tried to update to latest version? because in Indonesia when first launch, one or our reviewer having the same issue that fixed by firmware update the next day.
I have updated it to the latest version, there was even an update couple of days ago which completly changed the UI of the phone. Still not working. I havent tried updating firmware manually myself as i think it might void the warranty. Im going to go to the shop where i purchased the phone and give them a go to fix it, if not i might ask for a cash refund or a new phone, or try updating firmware myself, havent decided yet.
Sorry for the late reply
Have you got the fix?
I'm currently on pixel experience and I am experiencing the same issue since yesterday, and i can't find a fix, did you solved the issue and if yes, how?
