GPS not working properly? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Well I've owned a few of phones such as LG Optimus One, HTC Wildfire S, Samsung Gio and now the Galaxy Ace. The main problem I've noticed with this phone is the extreme battery drain (even after resetting the battery stats and charging it properly) but something that really bugs me on the 2 Samsung phones I've owned is the GPS connection. Yes the internet is activated and does work in google maps but when I tried connecting with the stock rom it took about 10 minutes to find the signal and didn't last for more than 1 minute. I keep getting for "waiting for gps connection" with an approximate location but nothing exact! On top of that it drains the battery so quickly it's not even funny. I tried installing custom roms after formatting the whole sd card but now it won't even connect! Again, I keep getting "waiting for a GPS connection" no matter where I point it at. I google maps sees me but vaguely, nothing precise and google navigation can't work because it's not fully connecting to all the gps satelites. Is this a known issue? Is there a way around this? The LG optimus one and the HTC wildfire S took about 10-30 seconds to connect and start working. The gio and the ace are having the exact issue and it's making me regret buying this phone. Please help!
Thanks

[Q] samsung vibrant auto turn off and on, why is that?

I just updated my vibrant from 2.1-update-1 to froyo 2.2 last night, its feel slow sometimes, but today while I was at college campus library I notice my vibrant turn on when I Hear the music. When I took it out of my front pocket I notice it rebooted. I didn't turn it off and it was in my front pocket with the touch screen laying on my wallet. Can it be a problem with froyo?
No it's not a problem with froyo. This mostly always happen. I can tell you this happen to most people here on xda with other phones as well. Maybe choose another rom.
Visit www.tomorrowisnews.com For Android news and more.
our experience...
one of our vibrant phones is still unrooted and stock 2.2. it has, on at least 2 occasions, done this since it was upgraded to 2.2 through kies. when it's done this, the phone just rebooted on it's own and started working normal again. if you are still stock and this keeps happening, you can always get a warranty exchange if you can't find a solution. this is what i am watching for before i root it, lol. you never know, it could be a hardware problem. this unrooted vibrant is our newest one out of the four we presently own. none of the others have done before...ever.
some of the software is hanging and causing a reboot. Try a custom rom and see if it goes away..... It most likely will
Oh, I see thanks for the info, and I can't really exchange it becaues I unlock it for ATT, but on the plus side froyo did fix my sim data refresh problem that kept popping up every 15 to 20 minutes. My suggestion to people is not to update to froyo cause of the auto restart apps feature. Even advance task killer can't stop it, Thanks to that feature it turn on every stock programs in the phone and use up most of my memory. I only get between 60 to 80 mb of free space left. And it drains the battery too. I charge it at night and it would finish charge before 12am and the next morningat 8 am I found the battery life less then 80%.

[Q] Samsung gs2 gps not locking problem

This is my second Samsung galaxy gs2 phone replaced, and still gps is not locking. On first the gps would lock but kept on loosing the lock and was every buggy. Now the replacement won't lock at all.
Is there a special way to get it to lock? I have done a factory reset to no avail. Gps Test show sats but always stays on yellow never green and at the top always keeps blinking never going solid. also I noted after small interval between 5sec to 1 min all sats just disappear for a second and then start all over again. Done a search but got no answers other than return.
Which brings me to my other question. I have now been given the choice to swap the phone with any other phone, or still get another gs2 replacement.
What do you guys think given the choice which of these phones would you choose and why?
1 htc senstion
2 lg p920 optimus
3 keep the gs2
4 any other?
Final question, how do I tell where my phone was assembled? The first one on back cover said "made in Korea by Samsung" and second one said "made by Samsung" nothing else.
Do you guys think the problems might be quality control? at factory's not having clean conditions?
I've only had this one smartphone so I can't compare, but on my SGS2 I also find getting a GPS lock difficult. But several things help immensely:
Be outdoors!
Move around!
Be in range of Wi-Fi and use AGPS long enough for the first lock
Also, download "gps status" and configure "Enable: Auto-download AGPS data" to "if older than 3 days" so your phone caches the AGPS data and you don't need to depend on Wi-Fi every time you need to start a GPS lock.
I found if I sit still, it takes maybe 10 minutes to lock, and quickly loses the lock as you describe. But once I'm in motion, it locks within 20 seconds or so. So definitely try that.
Too annoying it's going back.
Just can't make up my mind between lg 3d optimums and sensation? Which one to go for?
Any idea about pros cons between them?
Which would you rather have?

[Q] Xperia s gps problem

Hello,
When I teke my xperia s on the first ride I realized that the gps freezes after about 10 - 20 minutes. I started testing on google navigation app, and the same sytuation in on Sygic navigation and GPS status & toolbox. Gps reciver is working fine for few minutes and after that period of time stops. The gps icon on status bar is blinking and programs are waiting for walid gps signal. Does anyone has the same problem ?
Best Regards !!!
Arek
Just got it yesterday, so will gonna test it first.
I've just reinstall system. After that ... the same. Gps stops after 10-20 minutes !!!
I have not got the phone yet, but I would say go and get a replacement.
I hope that's a one off,I get the phone tomorrow and that's one of the things I need to work without problems, anyone else having issues with it?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
I am charging my phone for the first time now, but I turned GPS on, set a destination and waiting. BTW, it pin pointed my location right fast. Inside the house.

No in the contrary it's fast in seconds a fix works great better as on my O2x which gave always problems...
Sent from my Sony Xperia S (LT26i)
Right, more or less after 45min.
Phone was charging in kitchen, google navigation on, looked on screen about 2-3 in that 45min and never lost a signal.
I haven't had problems with my gps so far. I used it twice on trips (both times longer than 25min) with google navigation and used it numerous times for a few of my apps and it hasn't cut out on me yet.
I will keep track of it, but it hasn't failed me yet.
H've restet to factory settings. And after reinstal i have strong signal inside building on the secound floor of five. Maybe the problem was in logs of the gps reciver. I will keep my eye on it. Tommorrow again in the trip I will test the device. Many thanks for all !!!
Unfortunately, the same problem begins. Today I came to office. During the trip about 40 minutes all were quite good but after one hour gps stops. After reboot all is perfect but how long... Today I will go to the service center...
I am back at work on Wednesday, so test it properly then.

I've got the exact same problem over here is Singapore. My brand new set would suddenly lose gps signal after some minutes, no matter what app I used to test for signal. So definitely not software issue. Soft reset (yes, while driving!) solves the problem. Happened several times in last 4 days.
I'm a 10-year user of PDA GPSs so I'm very sure there's a hardware issue here. Really appreciate akaliszczuk's response after he returns from sony service centre so the rest of us know if we need to do the same. Thanks man. Also appreciate that you started this thread, cos it was hard to find any info about this, esp for such a new phone.
Very disappointd for such a beautiful product. Its gps fix is actually insanely fast at about 1-2 seconds!
Software used: copilot live 8.2, google maps, gps status (exact same suite I use in my old HD2 that never had a problem)
Hi,
Today i got the same problem (first time use of nav), using sygic or maps doesnt matter.
Did have to reset my phone 5 times in 1 hour navigate.
Looked in the settings, there is a app called Power Saver.
There you can turn Off and On functions at a % level of the battery.
Deleted the app and my drive home ( 1:30 hour) i did not have any problems.
Hello again, I was in office of Polish Distributor. They cange my phone to a new one. I havent any time for testing but tommorrow I will !!! I'll try to delete Pover Saver app too. But the first I will start with this app.

I found it in a drawer under.... power saver. Launched it and it was off already.
Sony seems to have a feeling with gps issue
Let's see this that affects most of the 2011 terminal:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524121
not solution at all from xda guys
and a promised solution from Sony in ICS, after a wait of months
Interesting link, because when it was working for 1:30 hour the phone was also in flight mode.
<Quote>
4) this also not happen in Flight mode, and perhaps it is the most important information, so is not an hardware problem.
<End Quote>
Will try it tomorrow without the flight mode.
Test again in the trip outside the city. The new one Xperia s and... the same problem. With data transwer on and off with and without Pover Save app. After about 20 minutes gps lost signal on several apps. IP4 had antena gate, but new Sony's flagship has its own... gps gate Waiting for ICS ? Tell me that it is a joke !!!

[Q] I9100 GPS hardware issue?

Hello! I have recently noticed that GPS on my I9100 does not seem to be working. I think it used to work before but I never used it to navigate, just for the maps and those will give me 20m accuracy with WiFi only.
Tried various fixed found on this and other forums, fasterfix, modyfing gps.conf manually, the a-gps fix but no results. I have downloaded GPS Status & Toolbox app and it looks that my phone does not find any satellites at all. Other Galaxy S2, my friend's phone, easily gets around 8 satellites in about 5 seconds outside and mine finds nothing, even after 30 minutes. Additionally, I tried flashing the phone with two versions of stock jelly bean and two different nightlies of cyanogenmod, still nothing.
Hence, I guess that the problem is in the hardware, not soft. Any ideas what else can be done apart from sending it off for repairs? No warranty and I suppose it would be just cheaper to buy a blutetooth gps receiver than to get it serviced.
Thanks, Tom

Since I flashed a custom ROM, I've had problems with GPS. Before you send it off, try this, it works for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41582224&postcount=8307
I use this fix on all the ROMs (CM/AOKP base) I flash now, as it never works until I modify this file. After I modify it using this, no issues. Give it a shot, make sure you backup the original file though. Note that you need to extract the attached file before replacing it.
Edit: or try omega AOKP, which says it has 'instantaneous GPS fixation' in the OP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290468

[Q] Problem with S3 (i9300)

Hi, I have an S3 (i9300) with CM11 always in his last nightly. I have a problem because the mobile download quickly and loading slowly. The Phone I've switched to other ROMs, kernel, I changed the charger, battery, so I formatted, even with few apps I still have the same problem.
Since 5 months ago I have this problem, turn off the mobile live it on "Airplane mode" and then leave even more than 6 hours to fully charge it.
I'm a user "heavy" since I am constantly using it in Whatsapp, mail, other social networks, etc ... But it does come five months presenting this issue and I want my phone before.
I've noticed that sometimes in certain-outlets (do not know how they call it in Spain but just Google it appears) sometimes faster loading than others but in other circumstances load equal than others, perhaps because it is a little paranoid but already has me tired this problem.
Maybe everyone say you buy a new phone but not if they have fixed the problems that exist in Venezuela and buy a new one is almost impossible.
I hope some help from you. Thanks in advance.
