I've searched for an answer but couldn't find one.. my gmail app won't send any emails. It just says "sending" forever. I'm using a rooted vibrant on stock 2.1 rom, with JAC's kernel.
There have been a few people myself included experiencing this sporadically but I haven't seen a fix or a reason why it's doing this just yet.
Sent from my awesome Vibrant using XDA App
I have yet to be able to actually send an email via Gmail on my phone. I can receive them all day long, but the times I try to compose a message, they just say "sending" forever.
Also, I have noticed that when i receive a message and delete it, it doesn't actually delete it from my Gmail. I have to log into the webmail or use my desktop.
I'm running the stock rom, rooted.
I used to have this happen on my g1 frequently, haven't had it happen on my vibrant yet though. Typically when it would happen on my g1, I would go into the google apps and clear all the data. Couldn't just do it on gmail either, had to do the other google apps too for whatever reason, then it would work again.
Good luck, it's pretty annoying.
Try k9. It's a bit slow at times but it's pretty solid. Best email app I've found yet. I use it for msn, live, gmail, yahoo and my company email.
Honestly I'm pretty disappointed in the stock email apps that came with this phone. I think they're kinda garbage. Apparently my Sidekick '08 was better for that, not to mention the lack of IM.

This happened to me yesterday for the first time. I chalked it up to the gmail servers having issues. But as soon as I plugged in the charger the emails went out. Maybe if battery is low it won't send email? It didn't tell me it wasn't going to send them, it just didn't send them.
I find that I have to go to gmail and manually send each one from the outbox, they still say sending but they actually do send after doing that, because the recepient always says they get it.
So for example, if you send a pic from gallery, make sure you go to gmail after, go to the outbox then click on the mesage and then click send.
* To get to outbox go to gmail then click menu > labels
Sucks but works till we get froyo yo
i'm on a Samsung captivate running the leaked jh3 firmware. It's rooted and running SuperRooter and circle clock.
I noticed that after reflashing to the stock jh3 gmail would send
After installing superrooter gmail would send
After installing circle clock gmail would send
But after I backed up apps with titanium backup it stopped working. I think TiBU is causing an issue for me.
Anyone else have TiBU in your problems some how?
Update: Got it working
I did this:
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, home button then filter, select all. Next Select gmail, clear data and clear cache. Then do the same with gmail storage.
Now it works!

This fixed it for me as well. I am unsure of what caused it to not work in the first place, though.
nice, clearing cache/data worked for me. i was gonna reflash my phone to stock and start from scratch. this saved me a ton of time. +1

my gmail is having the same issue as here, has anyone found a better solution to the problem then clearing the data as that deletes the currently stuck sending gmails.....
also I cant do the process above if its in a conversation, does anyone know how to open a sending gmail when it has all the other responses attached to the top of it??? that process onnly works for individually sent mails, not "replied" mails that bring other messages with it into the outbox.
anyone know how to detach it from the others or even open the data files to remove text using some sort of tool???
bump for some possible resolutions to force the message to send and or view the message to copy text...m even a wayto view data from it so clearing data wontclear message tryingto be sent???
please got a long, important email i need sent...
Seriously doubt this is just a Vibrant issue as it would happen A LOT to me with my MT3G. So far, knock on wood, it hasn't happened with the Vibrant.
I have the captivate running cog2.2 and deleting the cache under "manage applications" worked for me. I was going crazy! Thanks for the help!
I have Titanium Backup and actually had to restore my ROM with ROM Manager and a couple of apps from Titanium Backup and developed this problem. Clearing data and cache under the Gmail App and Storage + Reboot fixed the problem.
Danger
I too have been having issues with emails (and now SMS?) messages stuck in "sending..." mode. I had several emails from a month ago that I just now noticed didn't send, so I backed up gmail, cleared data, restored the emails and tried to send them individually. On the plus side, my emails did send.
On the minus side, some of them had pictures and my phone took the liberty of sending the wrong pictures from my camera (I was "sharing" pictures from the camera app). So to be safe, just delete the emails!
Dangerzone!
bee tee dubs, I'm using Axura 2.2.9.0
I recently upgraded my to the xtrSENSE 5.0.1 ROM and now I am having trouble syncing the GMail application.
Google to phone works correctly, but phone to google does not. The actual emails come through fine, but things like read/unread or archiving messages do not.
I have cleared the cache, reflashed the ROM, cleared all data for the GMail app and still no change.
I have apps2sd and cache2sd enabled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I connected over WIFI to see if that would work correctly (originally was using 3G) and it worked from phone to Google as I expected. Switched back to 3G and then it worked again! Who knows but if anyone has this problem try connecting to WIFI then back to 3G to see if that fixed your problem.

It's good to see that you have it working, but one other thing is that in xtrSENSE there is an app called Gmail Storage. Clearing data from that will help restart the syncing from scratch.
Also, I have noticed in the past that there are times in the 2.1 version of gmail where it just doesn't sync mail status, such as read/unread, as well as on the Froyo+ version. That said, I'm back on xtrSENSE for several days now and have not had problems like that with gmail.
Currently on the stock latest build, fixed my camera/gallery issue and now I have a new problem. Contacts that sync with facebook. I can not open them when I add a facebook account though blur. Any contact that does not have an associated facebook contact will open just fine. I have cleared cache on ever contact related service i could find as well as all the social media services. I have also reformatted the cache partition. I can even remove the facebook account and access the contact, but once i add the facebook account back i get the force close. I also get the same error when trying to change the setting to not show facebook contacts.
Next step is to do another hard reset and see how things go. But wanted to see if anyone else had any other suggestions.
p.s. i think i wrote facebook toooooo many times. uggg.
Hard reset...worked fine and it came back. I need to wait till moto os open since my login does not work over there. Uggg.
I also went back to 198_6 for tge time being.

After installing the new update 2.1 (with a dalvik and cache wipe) the Email app will continue to Force Close.
If you stop and clear data for the Email and Exchange Service applications you can get the app to stop Force Closes on launch and can add email accounts. I also had to manually delete the existing email accounts from Settings>Accounts and Sync before doing the stop/clear data for the app to start working.
Once you have more than one email account added you cannot go to the combined view without the app crashing. Now this is a pretty minor complaint, but Combined View in the email app is where I default to normally so with it missing it adds a couple extra click each time i am checking email.
I know LilChris worked hard to get the email issues fixed and thanks for that. Just wanted to let you know there is still something quirky happening there.
Going to remove the email in the update and put it as another zip so I don't get asked a 1,000 times about the Email FC.
Yea as of right now without doing a full wipe that was the only way I managed to get it working.
I only use Gmail so its hard for me to test every corner of the email apks.
No worries. I have played with just about every version of the email application that works on a samsung phone. It is always a crap shoot.
Sometimes they forget to include a "Move" function.
Sometimes the exchange security is broken.
Sometimes the forget a folder view.
And the google email app isn't much better.
Don't sweat it too much, it isn't worth it.
Ok I have read that Gmail is not a very stable app, and people often complain it crashes, but there's a limit!
I had it installed by default, then removed it after root, then decided to install it again as I needed to check my mail more often.
Every time, every damn time I do ANYTHING, Gmail crashes. You probably know the usual message "com.google.android.gm stopped unexpectedly", I get it when I boot the phone, when I enable data, when I disable data, when I open the browser, when I close the browser, when I enable google account sync, when I disable it, and of course when I try and open Gmail. The fact is, the process crashes even when I don't use Gmail (I checked and it's not in the 'being used' processes list, but when I open the browser or enable data it crashes from nowhere).
I have already tried wiping cache and data, uninstalling updates (but for some reason it uninstalls the whole app), and uninstalling/reinstalling it several times, but I only managed to make it work ONCE (then after that unique mail sent, crashes again). Is there a way to stop this madness?
I have an Xperia Mini st15i with rooted 2.3.4 and stock stuff, if it can help.
Did you take a backup of the stock Gmail app before you removed it? Did you install that one and then updated or did you install directly from the market?
In addition, have you tried clearing the data of Google Services Framework? I read somewhere that clearing its data can help resolve issues in Google apps.
I don't have a backup of the stock one, I reinstalled directly from market =(. I'll try clearing that data then =)
Don't worry if you don't have the stock Gmail.apk. If clearing the services framework doesn't work, search Google for the stock Gmail.apk of your android version, install it, then convert it to system app and link it to the market using titanium backup and then update it. If you can't find it, contact me. Post how it goes.
