How to tether after root? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey guys! New here, just got my RAZR about a week ago and had a question. What exactly do I download to tether freely from USB after I root? I rooted my dinc awhile back but CM7 had the tethering included in the rom. I'm not looking to flash to another rom till the bootloader is unlocked (hopefully it will be). Thanks!

Tethering
You can just search google wirless thether and then click the downloads and get the 10th version of the beta and that should work. Just make sure in the settings that you change the device type to droid razr.

Or download Koush's new tether app that it's undetectable by carriers, if you're on Sprint then goto the clockwork website.

If you like DIY, try my method.

I might try that diy after a bit lol, but thanks for the responses guys. I'm trying to get Koush's tether app to work correctly on the computer side, if it doesn't ill have to go with the diy probably.

I have the Droid RAZR also, but I'm not rooted. I use PDAnet for my USB tethering. I have used it on all 3 of my Droids. The original Droid, the DX, and now the RAZR. No problems at all. If you are looking to tether wirelessly, try buying SQLite editor from the market. There are a few youtube videos on how to use it and remove the checks that GB goes through when its mobile hotspot is activated.

I used this method as well and had no difficulties. they provide all the step by step instructions and its really fast

[Q] Unlocking Mobile HotSpot

I want to keep my phone as stock as possible, but I want to unlock the HotSpot feature. If I root my phone, is that all that's needed to get the HotSpot to work, or is there more that I have to do?
I'm trying to do this for my phone, and my Dad is looking to get one as well.
Thanks in Advance!
And can I root it without having to flash a custom ROM?
I'd suggest rooting, and flashing cleanROM, pretty stock with crap removed, sprint hotspot unlocked. Or you can always pay sprint $30 a month extra.. And yes you can root while keeping stock rom FYI

So, if I JUST root my phone, it won't unlock the HotSpot? If I root it, and leave it on the stock rom, can I just run an APK for an unlocked Sprint HotSpot app?
No you won't be able too. You need to flash a stock ROM with hot spot unlock. Or you can download "wireless teather" from the market.

Are any of the ROMs in the Android Development board a Stock ROM with the unlocked HotSpot? If so, that'll answer my prayers.

Why not go into that section and take a look? Pretty much all of them explain exactly what is included or removed from their ROM.
There is a zip floating around in the Shooter rom thread that will add unlocked hotspot to a rooted stock phone. It's not clearly labeled. Search that thread for posts by the creator of the rom, and read the posts prior to figure out what they're saying.
Many people are losing their settings menu when they unlock the hotspot so it's probably better to just wait until they figure out what they're doing. Also, it doesn't work on 4g.
Here is a quick question.....
what is the real difference between Sprint Hot spot and Wireless Tether????? Can we get caught using Sprint Hot spot????

no you can't get caught using either one.
Wifi Hotspot is sprints app fairly straight forward and easy too use. Most roms in the Evo 3d Section have the wifi hotspot unlocked.
Wifi Tether, add USB tether along with wifi tethering, no need to flash any rom, very basic looking app.
Team Xrons Rom will be out soon it's stock it's as can be with some speed tweaks im running it now and im loving it.

wifi tether help

Hi guys,
Im trying to help a friend, He has the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, the phone is rooted, has super user. I Dl'd and installed the Android wifi tether 2.07apk from the google dev site. started up the app. started tether without issue, looked on my Toshiba Thrive Tablet, found the android tether wifi, tried to connect and message pops up on my tablet stating something about adhoc is not supported.
I have a Droid Incredible running Nil's sense 3.5 rom and have the same android tether app, I can start up tethering, turn tethering on, connect and surf the web on my tablet, with no mention of the adhoc compatibility thing.
Im not up on Samsung devices, I have always had HTC phones. So im not sure if this a Samsung issue or what.
I compared his tether app settings to mine and both are the same.
Im at a loss here and could really use some advice about how to fix the issue.
Thanks
Hitch
Try downloading the newer version 3 beta 6 from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk&can=2&q=
Be sure to go into settings and change device-profile to samsung fascinate.
It may work with that version...

Thanks for moving the thread, I had posted another topic in the Q&A.
The good news is 96 people have read the post, the bad news is not one person posted any ideas, This usually happens when you cannot post in the rooted section.
Still hoping someone has some ideas to help out.

Which rom is installed? Is it just stock Touchwiz with root? I ask because if your friend is willing to try CM7, the built-in tethering works beautifully.

its called Evil Fascinate from the samsung galaxy forums. I told him he needs to start getting his roms from here, he just rooted for the first and has a lot to learn.
I know he likes roms that are really themed, If you any suggestions for a stable, themed rom that has tether baked in I will flash it for him and see if he likes it.
Thanks

can't he just download opengarden tether or barnicle tether from market or am I missing something?

I have tried barnicle, but We get the same message when trying to connect from our tablet to the phone (AdHoc is not supported) and it wont connect, no matter what tether app I try I get the AdHoc not supported message.
I dont get this message when tethering my tablet to my Droid Incredible.
Thats why I was thinking it had to do with Samsung firmware, but I really have no idea and Im hoping that you Samsung guys can get my friend fixed up.
An easier question might be "what tether app do you use on your Fascinate"
Hitch
I use open garden, but I have never tried tethering to a tablet...only pc's.
Meh, easy fix for the ad-hoc thing. In wifi tether (I use pre10, 6 should work) go to settings, set your device profile to Google NexusOne and your setup method to Netd (master) and it will run in infrastructure mode and run fine. Tablets will connect and receive internet.

Enable wifi tether on leaked ICS [CDMA]

This is not my work but I found a guide that seems easy to follow and it worked for me. After installing the leaked ICS I could not get any wifi tether app to work
Rumor has it that a simple SQlite edit enables the factory built in mobile hotspot. Again I take no credit for this work, I just found a guide
I'm sure there are others and I will edit this post from my computer when I get home to get credit where its due
linky
Hope this helps

I also can confirm this works. You can actually use the official mobile hotspot app after you edit the entitlement check.

Sometimes, I can totally understand the under-appreciation that the devs must feel from time to time...

So, even though I did this before you posted, thanks for the others that will be needing this. Some people do appreciate, they just don't know how to show it? Maybe? IDK?

Works like a champ though! However who in their right mind would burn through their over priced data plans for this?
Wifi Tether is working for me. Actually maybe it's not. It sseems to automatically turn wifi off.
Screw verizon.

It is supposed to turn wifi off.... It is the router or hotspot or however you see it.
So nobody has gotten the wifi tether app from gb to work?
So this allows you to use the Mobile Hotspot app for free? Or do you mean it just allows you to use it on this phone? Might also want to clarify that before people start getting charged extra tethering charges.
You can use googles wireless tether beta 11 to wireless tether. You have to change the device profile to samsung galaxy nexus lte cdma then change the setup method to netd (master) then you will be able to tether without changing the entitlement value

anybody able to get there tether to work??
Easiest method is to use the stock hotspot via the sqlite modifications. I've used wifi tether a million times, but if I can use the stock for free.... Why not?

Mine was working. I recently changed to a different ROM.. the SQlite hack works flawlessly so you can use the stock wifi tether app.
If you go the sqlite way you have to be using version 1.5 or you get that error 14 code. Also the beta 11 version won't work for the nook because its not an lte device. But it does work for leaked ics because that's what I'm running

Here is a quote from the comments of the article link in the OP :
"You can use aSQLite manager and aShell instead of SQLlite for free in the market (bit of a noob so took me a while to understand any of this). Path is data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings to get to it"
I followed this, found the check, changed to 0, will reboot for safety, check and report back. Just trying to save some people some money where possible.
EDIT: worked in open mode, not with WPA2

Just did it myself, and it was extremely easy... I am a NOOB by the way... if I can do it, you can.
One suggestion... READ EVERY SINGLE WORD... then read it all again... and then 3 more times until you know it before you get to it... it will save you a lot of grief... trust me on this one...
I hate the new upgrade of Rogers Droid Razr ICS
I upgrade it finally but now I hate ICS.
After the upgrade my phone is to slow even if I reset it twice, flash player don't work at all, webtop act funny and totally different(I like the old one), Some of my apps don't work or crashes alot, its not easy to uninstall apps like 2.3.5&2.3.6, my wifi & GPS went on&off with out doing anything, my GPS apps doesn't work at all, ....
I like the new look of ICS but when its come to the function, its ****ed up!!!

You should back up your data, boot into stock recovery or if you're using custom recovery (cwm/bootmenu) and do a factory wipe. It's painful as you'll have to set up your phone again from scratch but it will fix most of your issues with apps crashing.

foxfi 2.12/pdanet+

I heard that foxfi 2.12 now supports jellybean devices, but supposedly only Verizon ones thus far. Has anybody running jellybean on their LTEVO been able to get foxfi or anything else to work without root?
When I turn on my foxfi, it automatically launches Sprint Mobile Hotspot, and it overrides Foxfi because devices trying to connect see the Sprint Mobile Hotspot instead of Foxfi.
Workarounds? Tips? Advice?

With all due respect , do you think I would have bothered to create this thread to ask a question if I was willing to root? Please, no trolling
Before I rooted, I looked and looked and couldn't find anything other than FoxFi that would do it. After I updated to JellyBean, it didn't work. That's the main reason I rooted, and now that I did root, I would never not root a device again, it's so much better. Your options are:
A) Pay Sprint $20 a month for a hotspot
B) Root
C) Downgrade your software (which I don't think is possible without root)
D) Wait for FoxFi to update some more
E) use PdaNet+ and only use USB tethering
F) Not have a Hotspot
Don't forget to use the thanks button!

Best thing to do is root.
you can't make a phone do what you want if you aren't willing to get the privileges to do it. it's like having an admin account on your computer....wouldn't you rather have full control instead of being restricted?
If you're worried about harming your device, then just be extra careful and follow the directions step by step. past that, you're stuck with what you've got.
keep in mind that s-off is not the same as root. I think you SHOULD go s-off, but at least get your device to be YOUR device.
so if i follow this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38UOPSoJOPs after that i can load whatever ROM I want and stuff, right?
I'm not sure if the method in video is still compatible with recent software updates.
Head over to the development threads and the stickies and there are threads on how to root, and video links. There are good guides and lots of good info.
I too, consider root a necessity for android devices.
