[Q] [FLYER] Can lockscreen be removed? (Solved) - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi all,
I find annoying the need to unlock my device every time the screen goes off. I know I can change the sleep time in settings but it means more power loss.
There's an app for apple devices called NoLockScreen, it does exactly what I need, when the screen goes off in my iPad, power or action button opens where I was.
I'd be grateful if someone has an answer or points me in the right direction

No Lock from the Android Market has worked great for me on my View.

In settings under security you can change the lockscreen to not lock at all while still allowing your device to sleep.

Thank you Indirect, your solution is the simplest, needs a restart

Hero face down --> Screen off

Hi everybody,
I come from Windows Mobile, and I'm very happy about Android (and Hero...). With my old WM smartphone I could turn the display off just facing down the device, it was a small application but very userful in my opinion. Do you know any application to do this in Android? Otherwise, it's an idea for development...
Thanks (sorry for my english..)
If you turn it over when it is ringing it will turn it onto silent. I think there are several apps in the market that do the things you mention.
example?
Yes, I was pretty sure to find something in the market. But actually I had no chance. I know how to silent the telephone, but it's not what I'm looking for...
Can someone else tell me a program in the maket to turn the display off ?
Not sure what the point is? The screen switches itself off when it's not being used, so I can't really see the why someone would want to write an app that does as you describe.
Regards,
Dave
Re:
Ok, as example: I'm using Copilot 8. With the automatic screen off, after 2 min. (example) the screen turns off during the navigation. Not good. I have found a program to select the applications as exceptions to keep the display on, but I don't want to add every time some exception.
Or maybe I simply want to decide when to turn off the display without waiting the timer and without using the button (it's a physical button, I had bad experience with the lifetime of some hw button....)
As last answer I don't think your answer is useful. If you don't use this function, you can ask why to use/develop it to the thousands of users of WM using such app....

Ahem - I didn't attempt to provide an answer, I asked a question and qualified it with a statement!

Its easy... u can just click on the red button on your hero and the screen will turnoff, and when u want to turn it on u can click on MENU twice and u will be back at your application that u were using...

I use Copilot but my screen doesnt go off while navigating, and my auto screen off is set to 1min. I think there may be a setting in copiolt to keep the phone awake while in use.

You are correct man, I have been lookin for that kind of apk couldn't find one.
How the apk would work:
-Simply by positioning the device with the face down, you get an instant sleep mode.
-As if you pressed hardware power/sleep.
-You can simulate a "face down" in mid air and the device will sleep. Handy to keep the power/sleep button clean.

There is such a setting in Copilot. As you'd expect, you can find it in "Settings"!

[Q] Different Screen lock vs Security lock timeouts?

I'm new to Android, please be gentle. I have searched numerous sources for an answer to this. From what I can determine this is a change in Android that only provides for one screen timeout. IE, every time the screen turns off and I reactivate, I have to enter the security code.
Previously was using an N900, where I could turn off the screen on a 1-2 minute timer, but not have the security lock kick in for 1 hour of idle time.
Is there any way to implement the same behaviour with the SGS2?
I second this question. I find this extremely annoying and would like to know an answer to this too!
A bit of relief I just found is to use widgetoid and the lock screen disable function. It temporarily turns off the the security lock. Haven't figured out the details yet but it seems to re-enable it after a timeout as well.
Not perfect but a definite improvement!

Widgetoid does not work if you have a security policy (device administrators) in effect. :'(
Anyone know any app that allows you to set the security timeout differently than the screen timeout?
i came from n900 too, also miss the separate screen/lock timings.

believe it or not JUICEDEFENDER ultimate has this feature.
it goes a small step further in that you can have another (longer) time set for lock screen when the phone detects certain WIFIs. eg your home network.
the free and cheaper versions may also have this function, im not sure.

ICS Home Screen Auto-Rotate, Lock Screen

Hi all,
About two weeks ago I updated my XS to the official ICS update and am half happy/half annoyed with the result.
Firstly, I'm having trouble with the Home Screen Auto-Rotate. I can't see any settings/toggles for it, and it only seems to activate when plugged into a charger, and turning on/off screen rotation doesn't seem to affect it.
This is a problem for me, because I tend to be lying in bed when charging the phone, and having the home screen auto-rotate while all other applications are fixed in portrait is really annoying!
Have any of you found some setting for this? Or have a solution?
Secondly, there's the issue with the Lock Screen. With the ICS update, the ONLY way to view notifications in the lockscreen is by using "Slide" as a lock screen option, unlike Gingerbread. This is a problem because most people tend to want the "slide to unlock" and then some sort of security function (pattern, PIN, password, face recognition).
From what what I've gathered from reading some posts, ICS removed that functionality or something rather.
Do any of you have any solutions that keep the "Xperia" theme/look?
Thanks,
Aruim
Your first problem is non issues and standard features of any phone for Android(exactly the same as GB), you need to take a quick trip to the dev section to find a solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769082
Your second problem, if I understand you is also a non issue, you can pull down the status notifications menu in the lock screen(new to ICS), you can slide to open any notification(exactly the same as GB) and you can slide to unlock(exactly the same as GB)... you will find everything (exactly the same as GB) in the security\screen lock section of the settings.

The second prob the OP has is possibly the one I've seen most people comment on.
Some of us want notifications on our locks screens, but also want security, such as a PIN. You could do this on GB, now you can't. You have to have one or the other now with ICS. It's not *exactly* the same as GB.
Not a deal breaker, admittedly, but something *I* think Sony should have left, or at least included it as a choice.
hi
For this problem,
I went to disable the Live Ware.
Or, if you use this program, you can only uninstall the new update.
(the behavior you do not want to depend on this)
this worked for me

I stand corrected; i misunderstood.
I prefer it the ICS way tho, I'd prefer not having to slide to unlock then to again go thru security, to then have access to the phone. One poor mans solution is to pick your security method then set sim lock, at least yull have two part security option when u first turn on your device.

time phone locks after screen off

something has been annoying me for a while, I noticed playing around when I first got ICS an option to extend the period the phone locks itself when you switch off the screen, or if the screen goes off while you're still reading it, you can just press the button without having to go through the unlock slider menu.
Now my phone seems to be on the mode 'lock the phone as soon as screen off' and I can't for the life of me figure out where the option to change it is, I have looked in EVERY settings menu.
please tell me how where this option is because its something that is really bugging me!
thanks

in that menu, the options I have are, screen lock, owner info, sim card lock, make passwords visable, device admins, unknown sources, trusted credentials, install from internal storage and clear credentials...no option to change lock time ?

Hi am going to presume you are on a stock ICS ROM. This happens on stock ROM's if you are using any type of the screen security features. Try them all, you will notice it auto locks after even seconds of sleep. Taking off any of these features and waking your phone back up, your phone resumes as to where you left it. To my knowledge you need a custom ROM to amend the time it takes for the phone to assume it's lock. Im guessing there is a patch or something out there that can add this option though.
yeah I am, and you're right that option becomes available when I select pattern unlock, but is not available with the stock slide to unlock. How would I go about adding this option then?

Just about to hit the hay, so i can't find a solution right now but i know that Miui ROM has the option you're looking for. Allows you to set whether the phone locks when sleeping or stays on your current activity whilst sleeping :good:
the problem is I'm on a locked bootloader any way of adding a patch to add the option without changing the rom?
appreciate the help

That's not a problem for MIUI :silly: it works on both locked and unlocked. Thank me later :good:

Is there an app to keep the screen on when tilted? (Like Screebl on Android)

Hi Guys,
Whenever I get a new Android phone, the first app I always load up is Screebl. (Its an app that uses the sensors to keep the screen on when the phone is tilted.)
I've had a look around the windows store but can seem to find anything that functions the same. :crying:
Do you know of an app that can do the same? (or am I being way too optimistic here?)
Thanks in Advance. :highfive:
It's not possible on platform however you can set screen timeout in settings->lock screen to "Never".

Android has its faults, but for me, Windows phone and iOS are not in the same league as only Android allows you to use your device how you want.
Yes, Android has more flexibility (especially rooted) but as for mentioned feature it's irrelevant, you can achieve your goal with the standard settings so it's not a point (or I don't understand completely what do you want).
Could you tell me: why do you want this (if it's not a "top secret")?
Screebl is like having a toggle between lock my screen after 5 seconds activity and never lock my screen. When the phone is flat the screen locks quickly. When titled, the screen never locks.
I find its really useful when I'm using my phone and are then disturbed. I simply rest the phone at an angle, knowing I won't have to mess around with security when I return. This sort of functionality is also very good if you know your hands may get messy.
Ahh, OK, I got your point. I had kinda different issue - I'm developer and need to have always unlocked phone during development and regularly locked during normal usage. I solved this issue by using specific registry setting (not available officially) - WP has two different timeouts for working on battery and on DC (but when phone is connected to USB for debugging purposes, it always on charge).
