MY buddy broke his screen and screen digitizer on his G2 and really needs his notes form the phone. The phones boots and I can see the desktop with the HDMi out put the screen does not respond to touch commands. Anyone know of a way to enable USB debugging without the touch screen or retrieve his notes.
My thoughts are if I enable debugging I can remote into the phone and get the info he needs,
Thanks
You could always use a mouse with an OTG USB cable. Plug and play. Also a Bluetooth mouse would work if you can get it enabled!

Just hope that you didn't update to 2.3.6 (UKK6)...

Yes, if its on 2.3.4 (UKH7) and not 2.3.6 (the latest update UKK6). HID (human interface devices) are apparently broken on the new update...
I am on Shostock 8.1.1 2.3.6 and have NO PROBLEM USING OTG USB!

Got adapter in today and I was able to get USB debugging enable but its not popping up in adb server for me. Anyone have a guess why? I have my own G2 and I can see it on adb any guess why his is not coming up?
Restart the adb service after you plug in the device (kill adb.exe, plug in, run adb) and theres a command to list devices. (adb devices)

Can someone post the MTP and ADB windows drivers for Touchpad? No matter what I do, with USB debugging enabled my touchpad is not able to recognize MTP and Touchpad. I am using Classicnerd ICS.

Doesn't work neither...
actually had issues with my adb shell today so i dug around and found this webpage http://ergh.org/cmtp/ third section has usb drivers for the tp I went ahead and uploaded them with this post but the site is helpfull. Aside from that this site has really usefull uptodate information in a nice neat space. I simply downloaded the usb_driver.zip and updated the driver in device manger rebooted and adb worked. Keep in mind you need to have android debugging on ...
And MTP wont work if you have debugging on so when you want to use MTP you need to disable android debugging in the development section under settings.

usb host mode
Know this is unrelated to computer mounting, cannot seem to find any info on USB host mode for ics. It worked great for cm7. I bought the solar powered USB hub and everything...all that happens wen I plug in the otg adapter is a blue screen and hard lock up. Any info on this would be much appreciated.
usb host mode
never-mind, misread the above.

Check out the chain fire app USB Host diagnostics.
+1 thanks haxin. That app worked like a charm. I can now mount all my SD cards via USB.

First off, thanks guys for figuring out how to root the GP4.2. It is my first android anything after finally passing on my itouch to someone else.
I am using PCLinuxOS with gnome and my only hangup so far is trying to get the GP42 recognized as a USB MS device. Currently I am getting around this by WiFi and SFTP to the device but I would really prefer faster USB cable connections.
Plugging in the USB cable starts charging but I never get the USB MASS STORAGE app popup like I do in WinXP.
I looked on the forums here and can not find much info on the GP4.2.
Is there a toggle app for the USB MS mode that will run on this player or something built in?

Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB settings
Choose Mass storange
Now connect to your computer using your cable. After few seconds there will be a button on the screen, press it, now your computer should see the device's internal (and external, if exists) sd card as a normal usb flash drive.
Not quite that easy
The problem is that I am using Linux and the above only works in Windows with the Samsung Driver installed.
Linux is not triggering the popuup! I was asking if there is a way to manually trigger that very popup, because I have those settings already and it works in XP.
Perhaps there is a Call or command I can do from a shortcut or the commandline in terminal (I have busybox and a Terminal emulator on my Player).
WiFi is just SOOOOO slow!

Hey guys.....
I have had my DNA for about 2 weeks now and have a couple of questions....
1. Why does my USB tether not work
2. Device Software install on my computer says that "Android Phone" did not install because "device unplugged". And, yes, my phone was plugged to my computer via USB cable. While trying to run the Jcase Bootloader exploit, my adb will not recognize my device. All other drivers are installed properly.
I would like to use the USB tether which comes stock on my phone, Like my Droid Razr Maxx had. Not with PDAnet or any market apps.
Thanks for any and all responses and help. I have read other posts about both of these but was unable to come across any clear help. Sorry for my ignorance.
Not sure what you mean by "USB tether." To use your phone with your computer without any 3rd party apps, go to Settings->Developer Options and turn USB debugging ON. Then try again.

The OP is referring to internet tethering through USB instead of making the phone a hotspot. I haven't had the need to tether in a long time, so I haven't tried it on this phone yet.
Since you have 2 issues related to USB, I would start from there. Try a different cable, then a different port. See if it has issues connecting to another computer if those don't work. You may want to download and install the HTC drivers from HTC's website too. It sounds like the data side of your cable is the issue to me.

Thank you very much. USB does work with other computers. I will head to the HTC site to try and download from there. Thanks again for a prompt response.
Hi everyone.
I got this problem with my Galaxy: when connecting with usb cable to my pc, the phone isn't recognized at first try. Sometimes it starts the explorer on pc but I can see no files in the phone memory nor in sd memory. After unplugging and plugging back again 3 or 4 times it eventually works properly.
Can you help me?

Try to clean USB port in your phone or use different cable.

Already tried it. I've also tried all the ports on pc..they all get the same problem. May it be because of the lock pattern?

Clean install of USB drivers .
jje
I'm having trouble connecting to my Windows 8 laptop. I have reinstalled USB drivers and whatnot, but usually my phone is not recognised at all. However, if I use SGS3 Easy UMS app from Play Store to toggle MTP off and on while connected to USB I get the PC to recognise my device after a short while. It's so strange.
Usually I just use Samba server to transfer stuff because getting a USB connection is so complicated. USB (MTP) works normally with my Windows 7 PC at my workplace, though.

I'm going to try Easy UMS.
I don't have the possibility to connect wirelessly bc I don't have any wifi router at the moment.
Hi All,
I was wondering if it is possible to mimic the behaviour of an app running on your PC that requests some data/service through USB/serial from within the phone.
I would like to create an android app (running on the phone) that connects with the phone through the USB port, mimicking what an app in the PC would do when the phone is connected to the PC by USB.
Thanks in advance.
An app running on phone should connect to same phone via USB? Doesn't make any sense to me.

I know it sounds nonsense haha. I would like to replicate the behaviour of some diagnosis tools (like QXDM) from within the phone to avoid using a computer. QXDM communicates with the phone baseband through the USB. I would like to do the same but rather than using a PC, directly from the phone.
