Developers: If you use this keyboard in your ROM's. I require you give credit where credit is due. I personally spent DAYS trying to get the size proper as well as all the functions working correctly. Needless to say, this wasn't an easy task.
Installation Instructions:
1. Download zip file from link below.
2. Move to sdcard.
3. Reboot into recovery and flash.
4. Consider buying me a cup of coffee. This wasn't a small undertaking.
The HTC_IME.apk sometimes will not show up on ROM's that have been up and running for an extended period of time. If you find that to be your problem, you may need to reflash your rom, then flash the HTC_IME zip.
ROM DEVELOPERS:
Make sure you also include the libt9.so file that is inside the zip. Without it the trace functions will not work.

try flashing again... it may require you to reinstall the rom then flash right after boot.... like i stated in the OP... the HTC_IME.apk dont overwrite everytime... you can either try flashing multiple times or use the methods listed above...i will work on finding a sure way of flashing it but i'll revisit it later for now i need to move forward onto other projects
if you were on the original keyboard you already had trace

If you are still seeing Swype just go into settings > keyboards and select this keyboard then go into a text box and do the long press just like you did to get Swype working.
This is awesome man, thank you!!
Is it possible to maybe name this as a different .apk say, HTC_IME2, so we can switch back and fourth between the arrows and no arrows if wanted.

awesome.... would you be able to do black? its in my plans but with building a rom ... workin on gettin bugs out of ics, a job, a wife and 4 kids... i dont know how much more i could pull off lol
My keyboard is completely gone when I flash this mod (including the red flavor). No keyboard is visible in the settings or when you long press the button next to the home button.
I tried everything to get the stock one back, but keep getting FCs.
What's the best way to delete the mod? When I replace the htc_ime file and rename the libt9.so, I see the keyboard listed, but get the FCs.
I should add that I tried to flash the mod immediately after unlocking, rooting, installing recovery and Ziggy's kernel, so it was about as clean as I could make it.
** Update ** I couldn't install Swype as a temporary work around because you have to log into the beta site...which means typing. I gave up and backed up with Titantium Pro and did another factory reset.
ics
anyone know if this will work on the new ics roms?
I tried on ics. It doesnt work. Bored is working on one tho I believe
Sent from a cellular telephone
Is there a way to add additional settings to this keyboard that the HTC IME original keyboard had - particularly long press duration for alternate symbols, and swipe left to delete the last word typed?
bamf .9
Will this mod work on bamf .9, its deox so it should

Nice theme. Sent some donation love your way
i've been waiting for this! before i complain, i'd like to thank you, i'm such a huge fan of the stock android interface, the new blur stuff was making my eyes bleed..
is there any way i can exclude this from installing the droid 1 sms/mms app[mms.apk]? i'm using the modified sms app that comes with the epic rom and installing this theme messes seems to break it.
something to note- i used 7zip to browse through the theme zip and noticed a conversations.apk.
the interesting thing is that before installing your theme, the 'text messaging' app[conversations.apk] works.
after installing, i notice that there is an mms.apk. i used root explorer to rename it to .bak and the 'messaging' app that appeared after installing your theme disappeared.
but whenever i open 'text messaging' it just closes. no FC no error, it just closes.
Try reinstalling the conversations to apk by clicking it in root explorer. I got my terminal emulator to work when it was doing the same thing by doing that

Sure, just open the zip file and navigate to /system/app. In there you will want to delete conversations.apk
I actually didn't even notice it was different. I will add the stock conversation.apk later. Thanks for the info

Where did you see mms.apk? If you go to /system/app inside the zip file, there is no mms.apk... It must've came from whatever ROM you're using.

yea i think i may be mixed up. i have to do some testing, i'll report back.
i also noticed that putting this theme on top of the epic rom makes doubles of a couple apps.
for example, now there are two music players. when you try to open either, it asks what you'd like to complete the actoin with, 'com.android.music' or 'com.google.android.music'
i'll compile whatever errors i can find for you and report back

These themes are built for stock droid 2 after rooted and deodexed... I don't make them specific for any ROM's. If you're installing over a ROM, you're bound to run into problems.

with some slight modifications i got it working flawlessly. i ended up using the theme porter to modify the sms app included in epic's rom to be themed to the stock conversation app included in you rom.
if anyone is interested i'll post it.
I'm assuming this has the Stock D1 icons (the ones in stock android 2.0-2.2)?
Is there any way I can extract those icons and put them in another theme?
you could locate the png, extract it, replace it in the new theme.
Updated to 2.45. Also added the d1 lockscreen. Creds go to ghostlypickel for the pngs.

1st of all, thanks cryshop! Nice work, I'm glad you found the time!
2nd, the problem with the zip is, that the whole resources.apk might be different...for example I extracted those files and put them in my .apk...
3rd, does the ROM really need to be de-odexed? What if I put the different png's to my resources.apk ? - edit, You don't have to be deodexed, it works just fine on B 0.1 Rom, which is not.
EDIT2: When I touch the display(screen locked text appears) part of the image sems to lose it's transpatency settings - there is a vivid ende below the text - is this normal?
Thanks!

The black half-transparent rectangle at the bottom causes that. It seems to be something in the xml files which I'm not able to edit. I can retouch graphic files only, sorry for that
nice work! I just made a bit more space between the 2 arrows.
Cause it was overlayed by the text saying: "screen locked" (since in dutch its scherm geblokkeerd) and that's much longer
png is attached for dutch people or people that want more space between the arrows (hope you don't mind cryshop otherwise just tell me and I'll remove it asap)
Really like your work

Hi Cryshop,
Just a question here, but could you make a lockscreen that would correspond with your navbar? It would actually need editing of one png The shape is OK, but the style would look nicer
I tried 3ds max to make one, but I need some study in that

If folks have noticed, the Froyo dialer is a mess. From typos to crashes, its a mess.
So I modified this for my own rom, but am packaging it for anyone.
--Deleted all the Epic 4G icons.
--Replaced messed up icons with working ones.
--Removed Visual Voice Mail xml, and icons.
--Removed CityCallerID code.
--Remapped voicemail button to work with Google Voice.

adrynalyne, I'm feeling very noob here, but have to ask about this:
> After applying DL30, if I even attempt to apply this or the (other thread) throttling mod, I end up with a system that is completely hosed and have to keep going back to a full DL09 ODIN and starting all over.
Again, apologies as necessary here, but I'm not sure where my retardation lies at this point. I faithfully do all the things I'm supposed to (or so I think) ... I wipe twice, I flash, happiness temporarily ensures, but I always end up with a device that won't even load the home screen app (endless force closes) every time I try to apply this or any other ODIN-based updates to DL30. Sorry
edit: my current process:
1. Reflash to a completely sock DL09 via ODIN
2. Flash Clockworkmod RED (yours) for DL09 via ODIN
3. Flash the su/busybox mod via aforementioned red clockworkmod
4. Flash DL30 leak via red clockworkmod
After this, anything I seem to do with clockworkmod recovery, including your dialer fix, causes me to start all over again. I'm not an idiot, but I'm obviously missing a step here.
Any shots of what this looks like?

I'm back to a working state of DL30 without any add-on mods via clockwork at the moment, but if I dare do it again tomorrow, I'll certainly post a screen shot. Honestly didn't think of that.
What I see after trying to install this via ODIN is essentially a black screen with a force close on LauncherPro (installed via Android Market) or TwLauncher (if I reflashed and didn't deal with the Market yet). I can use the power button to get the "Power Off" option available and so far have just re-flashed from a stock DL09 to DL30 if I'm in that bad place.
Does this affect the theme of the dialer? Can I apply it after applying a theme? Thanks!

I put together a few mods from other places and thought I would share them.
MIUI Battery bar from pvyParts
Center Clock from TheGrammarFreak
Nav Bar from evilisto
This will replace your SystemUI and framework-res apks, so as always make a backup, as I am not responsible for anything that happens. But this is the result:

You can't really tell, but the MIUI battery bar is there. This will also completely disable your capacitive buttons! I also put up a revert zip that will put things back to normal if you need it.
Just flash the according file of your choosing. Once that is installed you can change all the colors for the bar in the BatteryBarSettings app.
The "text" version only has the back, home, search, and multitask buttons in text. It is more of a test and that's the only buttons I use down there. If anyone has any ideas for different buttons(color,font,etc) let me know, I'm not good with Photoshop, but I can do some basic things. So please let me know what you think!
As far as I know, this is CDMA specific, because the mount points in the updater-script are different for GSM.
Nice!

Do you know of a way to disable the capacitive buttons all together? I can't remember if that is a kernel edit or an edit within the ROM. I'd assume a kernel edit would be needed.

It is a rom edit. And easy, but the thing I am looking to do is disable the lights to the buttons. I know how to do it once you are booted into the rom, but I would like to make the edits pre-flash, and its kicking my butt.

Pretty sure that can be accomplished with an init.d script. I'll look into it.

I used to be able to change the values in framework-res in the arrays.xml but they changed they values that were there, so now if I change them it will boot loop. Want me to tell you how to disable the buttons though?
Sure go ahead.
And I made the init.d script but for some reason it doesn't execute on boot. There are other init.d scripts there so I'm sure his ROM supports them but now I'm all confused lol
If I'm able to successfully boot the next version of deviltoast with gapps then I will definitely be doing this! I saw when you posted it in the thread and i wanted it lol. Thanks!

In /system/usr/keylaout/ open atmel-touchscreen.kl. I'll I did was comment out the four keys with #. Then open generic.kl and find the four keys again(should be 102,139,158,217) and comment those out as well. That should disable them completely. And yeah, init.d scripts and such is a little above my head. lol

Okay that didn't work so I'm going to try again on his next update and if I still get nothing I will ask him whether or not the ROM supports init.d
And if you want to learn a little about init.d, you can PM me
I was just using the kitchen to add the ffc fix'ed zImage, and I noticed that it said the rom doesn't support busybox-runparts(init.d). but I've never messed with the kitchen that much so I'm not sure how true it is.
edit: just tried to add it in and it kept saying the rom already supported it. weird.
Yeah I just got the same thing. Weird!
Supposedly it does support them.
Couldn't you just put the edited files in the correct directories in the flashable zip? Then flash?
Nope I tried that and it didn't work.

Maybe you need to have the updater-script in the zip set permissions..

Admit it, you secretly like emoji icons that iOS users seem to (ab)use in their messages.
OK maybe you don't, but you do hate the "blocks" or blank spaces appearing in their place on Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Email, SMS, etc.
Google knows. And has worked out a way to implement their own version in Android, starting from Jelly Bean 4.1.
Now, ICS users seem to be out of luck and that made me think and finally figure out a way to implement them in ICS.
Here is a little sneak-peek on how they look:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note that they are black and white. This is because they are font symbols and not drawables (as they are in iPhones).
HOW?
First of all, Android uses a set of so-called "fallback fonts" for displaying characters that are not included in the primary fonts (DroidSans, Roboto, etc).
In the older days, to get emoji support, we used a modified DroidSansFallback ttf file, placed in /system/fonts. Well, if I wanted to merge AndroidEmoji font and DroidSansFallback, I'd probably lose a great part of my patience sanity and eye-vision... (there are 471 emoji icons)
So, I modified the fallback_fonts.xml in /system/etc/ and added the AndroidEmoji.ttf, as well as changing the priority with which the fallback fonts are called.
And TADA, I could view Google B/W emojis everywhere!
HOW DO I INSTALL IT?
I made a flashable zip that will work on all the Xperia 2011 models, on stock and stock-based ICS ROMs and probably to all Sony models that run ICS also (do not have access to those devices to check and be 100%).
DOWNLOAD ANDROID JB EMOJI FONT ENABLER
Flash with CMW.
(If you are rooted and on stock kernel, check how to get CMW here)
Preferably make a backup prior to installing.
I am not responsible for your device, YOU are!
Nandroid backups take 5-10 minutes to complete and can save lives.
Enjoy!
WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN XPERIA DEVICE OR RUN A CUSTOM ROM?
The tinkering needed for it to work on all devices is minimal.
Depending on the company, there may be different fallback fonts included.
For those you feel confident enough to edit system files, all you have to do is
add this line in the fallback_fonts.xml, save it, replace it in the CMW zip and flash:
Code:
<family>
<fileset>
<file>AndroidEmoji.ttf</file>
</fileset>
</family>
Just make sure it is before all the other entries, so that the Emoji font gets called first upon an unknown character.
HOW CAN I PUT EMOJIS IN MY MESSAGES/STATUSES/TWEETS/etc?
If you also want to be able to insert them anywhere, you have some choices:
1. A brilliant choice is Multiling Keyboard, which uses the newer encoding system.
2. There is also Emoji Keyboard.
However, it uses and older encoding system, so you will also need to flash this package. This mod is totally independent, you can flash it whether you flash the main mod or not. They will not interfere with each other at all. Having both mods means you can view emojis of both older and newer encoding.

NOTES
- If you like this, just press Thanks.
Do not post just to say how awesome I am. I know.
- If you are having questions/problems, post here, do not PM me.
Other people might also benefit from our conversation.
- If you are a ROM cooker/developer, PLEASE, ask for my permission before including this mod in your ROMs.
And I shall elaborate on this:
What I did here is no rocket science. Yes, I am sure anybody who would set their mind on it, could pull it through eventually. And maybe someone already has. However, I do enjoy being appreciated, because I took some time off my life to create this thread rather than just parading with my cool emoji-enabled phone, unwilling to spread the joy. I do wish for all the members of this community to benefit from this small tweak, but if I see something like this:
without my name mentioned anywhere and a link to this thread, I am going to be hurt. And probably mad.
That's all folks!

Ditto here. I can get them to show up when I type them using either keyboards linked in OP but when I send them or receive them I still get the weird "question mark in diamond symbol".

This works and has been up for while now too. So to those have problems give it a try very simple.

It seams that the fallback_fonts.xml file is different for each rom. Im on mean rom. If someone can send me their fallback_fonts.xml from the /system/etc directory i can edit it and upload a new zip.
