[Q] Android mp3 player that can play malformed mp3s? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have some mp3 podcasts that have "blips" in the middle of the files. It plays fine on VLC on my computer, it just skips over the corrupt part. However, when the media player on my Android 2.2 phone (HTC vision) plays one of these mp3s, it stops playing instead. It just abruptly starts the next mp3 in the playlist. I've tried several mp3 players including meplayer and mixzing and they all do the same thing. I searched the Android market for VLC but found some ripoff called "VLC Direct" instead (looks just like VLC but won't actually play any files unless you pay).
Anyone know an mp3 player that will play over bumps in a file instead of stopping?

Try Google music... flac works on Google music, I think it will work too..

Is Google Music the software name? I can't find anything like that on the market.
Any other mp3 players?

Yeah, thanks but no thanks.

what media player ?

wich is the best program and why ?
should i keep my original windows-media player wich wont play mp3 or is there a better one out there .....???
The original Media Player DOES play MP3 files. However, I prefer WMA format at 64k, which doubles my storage space with very little loss in quality (as far as what you can hear from the PPC even with good headphones). Unfortunately, the two excellent aftermarket players do not support WMA. So, if you want to play MP3 files, I recommend withMP3 (expensive, more mature) or PocketMusic (free, good but not perfect, early version release). The URL for the latter is www.pocketmind.com; I don't recall the URL for the other one.
With the windows media player keep the bit rate below 160k and the MP3's will play without issue, or got to Tools setttings, Audio & Video and allow the device to play unsupported files.

Well, the site is down so I can't go try it out. Does it actually play WMA format?

I see no evidence that it plays "all other formats." In fact, considering the author's anti-MS rant, I see reason to believe it will NOT play WMA.

[Q] what audio formats will play on the streak

What audio formats does the Streak play?
I never had so much trouble looking up the answer to such a simple question.
So experimentation shows that it doesn't play lossless wma files.
Is there a lossless format that will play on it?
get PowerAMP it plays plenty of file types:
mp3, mp4/m4a (including alac), ogg, wma*, flac, wav, ape, wv, tta (* some wma pro files may require NEON support)
I love it, it's automated, so when I plug in my headphones (even BT ones) it resumes play.
the basic player is just that, basic.
I'd link it, but I'm new, look it up on appbrain.

Good question. I can only speak for FLAC support as I don't use anything else.
The only Android media player that I know of that recognises FLAC is PowerAMP

I second @bugmenotacc's endorsement.
I tried PowerAmp and it didn't play the album I ripped to flac.
I read the help section this morning (amazing what you can learn when you do that) and found out about selecting folders instead of the android library and lo and behold flac files play. Looks like I'll probably end up buying PowerAmp.
Yes it gets a bit confusing, glad you got it sorted too.
I loaded about 6 albums to my sd card today and set Android Settings to pull in the album artwork. Which all happened very quickly and seamlesly.
It is probably old fashioned of me but I prefer to set a Music folder rather than always have the app search my device for files.
Enjoy the app.

[Q] aac audiobook player?

I'm on GN - 4.0.2. I've got audio books in .aac files.
I know aac is an accepted format on 4.0+, but I can't find a player that will play them. They require .m4a.
So two questions:
1. is there a audiobook player for .aac files?
2. is there a better site/forum for audio book issues? mobileread seems only to deal with ebooks.
sean
Have you tried Audiobook Player 2 (by Fredrik Maelstrom) in the market? I just tried it now and it seems to play my .m4a files just fine.
EDIT: Link added https://market.android.com/details?id=com.frma.audioBookPlayer2&hl=en

Yes, it plays m4a - but I'm looking for a ".aac" player.
I couldn't get it to play aac files. Can you?

[Q] Some FLAC files won't play

I have an HTC One X with Jellybean software. It plays most FLAC files but occasionally I download an album and it won't play on my Android phone although these same files play perfectly with VLC on my computer. Is there any player that I can install on my phone that will play all types of FLAC files?
Folder Player supports FLAC. Also I think both winamp and poweramp support FLAC.
Poweramp is the key
Download poweramp. I have never had an issue with any flac file that was downloaded. It has a great look and sound.

[Q] Andless mp3 player- Media PLayer error‏

When I play mp3s with Andless mp3 player.
I get "Media player error" message displayed at lot when I play mp3s. Is that due to the Andless app. Player, The mp3 itself or the sd card media I am using that is the cause ? It skips playing that mp3 song and goes to play the next mp3 on the list.
What is the problem ? How can I prevent this from happening ?
Thanks
