Any one know if an OTA update.zip can be flashed from cwr so that cwr is NOT forced/allowed to reboot after the UD is complete?
I have done this before and the UD was fine BUT it would NOT leave me in CWR it has rebooted. What if you: Install zip from sd>toggle sig OR scripts? Does make any diff?
If we are left in CWR we can hack the new rom. Is this a duh moment ?
Edit tried w scripts and sigs enab and if UD completes it reboots
Edit Duh moment confirmed, no root access, /sbin gone?

I updated to the official 2.2 froyo and now I cannot get the phone to boot in to clockwork. I have reflashed clockwork multiple time, no matter what it starts in 3e. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Wonder if deleting slacker radio and allowing busybox to install will fix your problem...sry can't link but there is a thread

Tried it, installed busybox, but still booting in 3e.
Ok go to the bottom of rom manager and use another version...like 2.5.1.1 or 2.5.1.0 & try reboot into recovery...if not there is always Supercurios voodoo kernel w/ cwm & root

I'm also stock on blue standard recovery. Can not get to Clockwork. It used to work fine before 2.2 update.
I go to Rom manager; tell it to reboot into recovery. I get the Android 3e. I select reinstall packages. It says verifying. Then it fails signature verification. I already tried removing update.zip manually..
What should I do?
There are two methods you may either odin back to stock 2.1 which gives you the android 2e recovery
or
# Download SuperOneClick root on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
# Run SuperOneClick Root (remember to enable usb debugging)
# Download the files on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
# Put both of the files found on step 3 in the root (not in any folders) of you INTERNAL sd card.
# Download root explorer ( http://www.4shared.com/get/4W9GGurc/Root_Explorer_2123.html )
# Copy the recovery found in the 3e_recovery_installer.zip in system/bin
# Copy the keys file found in the res into the efs file
# Run shell root on SuperOneClick
# Now enter the 3e_recovery_installer.zip on your computer and run the bat file found in there
# Go download Rom Manager in the market
# Reinstall Packages in recovery

[HOWTO] Completely Remove Voodoo Lagfix
I think this is what you are looking for.
[HOWTO] Completely Remove Voodoo Lagfix
You don't create a folder. You need to create a FILE
Sent from my Samsung Fascinate
what do u mean as in file? what kind of file? doc? txt?
There is no file extension when creating the "disable_lagfix".
1) Create a new txt document.
2) Name it "disable_lagfix". It will tell you that it will no longer be useable, blah blah. Just accept.
3) Then move it in to the voodoo folder on the sd card.
4) Reboot phone. It will take a while at reboot to un-voodoo the phone. This is normal.
Done.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the filename needs to be .disable_lagfix (notice the dot at the beginning). Oh, and the file is just an empty file, no particular format. You can create one easily with Root Explorer. If you don't have Root Explorer, I suggest buying it, as it makes it much easier to work with files on your rooted phone.
I've been having this problem for a while. The settings do not store and always get the "can't mount /dev/block/stl11" error. I first tried the disable_lagfix file and rebooted. Nothing new. Changed some settings and then rebooted. None of the system settings kept. I then tried the voodoo uninstaller in the referenced thread. The uninstaller seemed to work without error, but still get the mounting error when entering recovery mode.
i have re flashed my phone a while ago. it went well. from 2.3.5 to eclair 2.1. i reflashed due to wifi error, however, eclair installed, rooted the the phone, i plan to reflash it with a custom rom, Bionix 1.3.1 or Project V. im using the AIO toolbar, i tried it first with the Bionix, reinstalll packages 4 times. and i get an error. also with the Project V rom. same thing. error as well. the error says:
cannot locate /sdcard/update.zip
does this mean that my phone is not yet rooted? i have super user though.
Mostly likely you do not have the CWR Update.zip on your SDcard.
Go here and download Option B and put it on your SDcard. Reinstall twice and then flash your ROM
i already copy and pasted the file in /sdcard however it is still not working? shall i got into CWR? to make it work?
Put the CWR zip from my earlier post on your sdcard (not in a folder-just plain on card by itself). Might have to rename it Update.zip, but not sure about that one.
Boot into recovery (Blue) hit Reinstall Packages.
Will reboot back into recovery (Blue) and hit Reinstall packages again, will boot into CWR (Green).
From there, find Install zip from SD card and hit it. Now you can find you ROM and highlight it and install.
Hey so I'm attempting to re-root my Nexus S 4G (now at stock 4.0.4), but when I reboot, it says I'm rooted....however when I try to reboot back into recovery, it goes to stock recovery. I'm not too sure, but I'm wondering if they put the safety feature from 2.3.1 back in the 4.0.4......
P.S.- I'm also havingtrouble getting ROM Manager to work (because Clockwork doesn't exhist in the recovery...I'm guessing)
There is a file that you have to delete using a file manager...I think it is in the recovery folder called "set on boot". Let me check around and see if I can get the exact location and name.
Edit: Here you go. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/install-touch-based-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-on-galaxy-nexus/
Step 1 shows the file to delete. That file automatically pushes you to the stock recovery.
The problem is SuperUser isn't responding as "rooted" I don't have the permission to Mount R/W.....I'm not sure where to go from here...
I'm expecting to see the OTA show up any time now and I want to be ready for it. I'm running stock .181 rooted with bootstrap recovery. I've seen lots of threads with instructions for sideloading the 211 ICS update, and all say to use Matt's utility to start with clean version of .181 with no bootstrap. I'm willing to wait a day or a week or whatever for the OTA and don't see a need to rush and sideload ICS, so do those instructions still apply? I"m sure it's cleaner if I wipe everything before applying the OTA update, but I'd rather not spend the hours it will take to restore and recover all my apps and data and such if I don't have to.
So, do I have to rsd back to clean 181 to get rid of bootstrap recovery? Can I just uninstall the Razr Bootstrapper app? Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
OK. Found a simpler option than RSDing to re-install 181. I followed instructions to remove CWM posted at http://theunlockr.com/2012/01/24/how-to-install-bootstrap-recovery-on-the-motorola-droid-razr/ . I also un-installed the RAZR Bootstrapper app just to be on the safe side. I plan to back up root with OTA rootkeeper before installing OTA which I am hoping is soon.

I can't delete the files, I keep getting "error deleting file". Also am attempting to get in to adb shell using the utility and keep getting "the system cannot find the path specified". I have debugging enabled. Really getting fed up with this. I tried to use the utility to revert to at least a clean install of 181 and the path specified is never available. Root is good. Constant error messages.
Try opening the su app, then hit menu, then update your su binaries, then do it again, then open rom manager, or what ever app you may have, or boot into cwm and run fix permissions, reboot and try again, though, even if you remove bootstrap, if you've frozen, removed any bloat, or you/an app you installed altered your build.prop at all any update from vzn/moto will fail. Also I don't think ota rootkeepr works for going to ics. When you have root, ti backup and a nandroid are amazing time saving tools to have.

To delete/rename files using ES file explorer I had to go to preferences and check the root explorer option and the mount /system read/write option. Then all was good.

Can anyone confirm this method works? I would like to avoid rsd if at all possible. Wanna keep all my files / settings intact for the update.

I can confirm you do need to remove bootstrap. However, that method did not work for me to remove it to install the soak test. I'm not sure the reasoning, but the following steps:
[Removing CWM on Boot]
1) Delete file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
2) Rename file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode.bin to /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
My phone did not have a mot_boot_mode.bin. I found an alternate set of instructions that did work and allowed me to receive the OTA soak.
This thread has the instructions I followed (also pasted below):
droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-hacks/188690-how-remove-razr-bootstrap-custom-recovery.html
"I found a thread on DroidXForums.com by Abe21599, which suggested the following for a Droid X:
1. Reroot (If not currently rooted)
2. Get root explorer in the market
3. Uninstall the bootstrap app
4. Go into root explorer to system/bin
5. In top right corner tap r/w
6. Delete the file called hijack
7. Delete logwrapper
8. Rename logwrapper.bin to just logwrapper
9. Reboot and it should be gone.
(thanks to Droidforums member Hostility6)"
You also need to unroot, which I did with the Razr Utility 1.6. After all of this, I was able to install the soak OTA without any further issues!
The theunlockr.com article with instructions that I used referred back to a 12/18/2011 post by J.Y Daddy on xda, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20447149&postcount=47 . The instructions are pretty much the same as what brgr had but also have you delete the /preinstall/recovery directory. That may be why it didn't work for brgr.
Here are the instructions given in the J.Y. Daddy post:
It's complicated to remove.
Because, it must also be removed CWM recovery.
Follow the below with very careful:
Please work with RootExplorer.
[Removing CWM on Boot]
1) Delete file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
2) Rename file /system/bin/mot_boot_mode.bin to /system/bin/mot_boot_mode
[Removing CWM Recovery]
1) Delete file /system/bin/logwrapper
2) Delete file /system/bin/hijack
3) Rename file /system/bin/logwrapper.bin to /system/bin/logwrapper
4) Delete directory /preinstall/recovery

I'm optimistic that it will work, but until I get the OTA I won't know. If it doesn't work out then I'll start clean with the razr utility.

I don't have the mot_boot_mode.bin file. Only the one without the. bin extension.
Will that make a difference to remove Bootstrap / CWM?
Thanks

Sounds like you didn't set up CWM to automatically run at boot, so you just skip the two steps in that section. As I understand it the mot_boot_mode.bin file is just a back-up of the stock mot_boot_mode file that is replaced when you run the set up to have CWM always come up when you reboot. To get rid of CWM on boot is to delete/rename to get the original file back. The stock version boots to your normal system ROM, the other version for CWM at boot boots phone to CWM. If you don't have a mot_boot_mode.bin file then just leave the mot_boot_mode file as is -- you definitely don't want to delete it.
I didn't set up CWM to come up automatically at boot, so I didn't have the .bin file either. It shouldn't matter because the mot_boot_mode file is the stock version (wasn't replaced to make CWM run at boot). Still need to do the rest of the steps to remove CWM recovery.
Hope this helps.
Good to know, that's what I was hoping for. I boot normally, not going into recovery first, so it makes sense.
Thanks
Ill let you all know how the OTA goes if and when i receive it. Just a waiting game now.

Finally got OTA. I temp un-rooted with Voodoo before installing. Went very smoothly with no issues. After update i restored root with Voodoo and I'm back in the game.
Removing CWM using the steps i followed and temp un-rooting allowed OTA to work and let me keep root. Done.
Thanks
