Samsung galaxy S2 suddenly pop into auto-update mode into no reason? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

This morning I woke up my SG SII and it said a new update is available and it started downloading.
I immediately cut off the Wifi and it said that the next time it will update is when Wifi is available.
What is happening? Why did it suddenly decide to auto-update?

yea but it is keeping me from using wifi

Freeze or remove the device management app using titanium backup, should stop it from loading the update and give you your wifi freedom back haha

I don't know how to turn the auto-update off but in my case, with virgin stock ROM v2.3.4, Device Management automatically kicked on with message, I clicked Cancel a few times but hit OK once, sine then it forced me to update. I chose to postpone 8 hours, but only allow 3 times max. I then went into Application, select Device Management then clear cache and data, the icon indicator is gone, haven't complained since.

Well what kind of router are you running? I am running unnamed 2.2.1 based off of uckk6 and I have zero wifi issues! If you are running a belkin router that could be the wifi issue since numerous posts have issues with belkin routers. I am running 2 different routers here, 1 Linksys wrt54g *wired AP* and a Cisco e4200 both routers running dd-wrt. Wifi even a stock Cisco e3000 runs with zero issues.

(Q) battery life on froyo

Ok, so I have updated to the newest release of FroyoEris and I've noticed a considerable differennce in battery life. Dunno why, I hadn't really noticed it on earlier releases (v29 and on). My SetCPU profiles and settings havnt changed since either.
My question is this...
My buddy has a mm Evo and when he got the Froyo update he noticed that his baterry life dropped considerably. Turns out it was in issue inside 2.2 and not long after HTC came out with an update that he says seems to have fixed it. Could this be the case with the Froyo release for the Eris?

I don't understand. Can you give some info? Are you getting worse battery life?
Check your radio band. Go to your dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone information and go down. If it says anything but cdma auto prl under preffered network type then change it to that hit menu and select radio band. It will force close which is normal. This should help your battery life.
Also, do you have an app called toggle2g?

And no I dont have toggle2g app installed.
Update:
I went to phone information like you stated and it was already set the option you listed. Still did menu and hit select radio band. It force closed like you said it would.
Where you sugesting that it could have been set to something different? If so this is not the case. Any other ideas?

Just trying to help. I had terrible battery life after flashing KaosV32, then I saw someone mention that wiping the battery stats AFTER fulling charging would help out tremendously. It worked!!! My battery went from crap to still working way past 12 hours (after wiping battery stats).
Usually, I just do Facebook and Yahoo mail on mine. Light web surfing.
Hope this helps you.

Not too much, about 1 hour 15 minutes, but the thing that makes this impressive to me is a large chunk of my day was spent on campus, where liminal signal sucks my battery dry.
Yea!...That, and the fact that Michigan still sucks!
agree
i have to agree with you i as well saw way better battery life today with the newest leak. running Venasaur 3.1.
Ditto. I'm running stock on the new leak, no custom roms or anything and I'm seeing a very nice boost in battery life, running the same apps that I did on GB.
I came from the GB OTA went straight to s-off to the latest leak.

Pretty much the same experience here; I was wondering if that was because verizon was rolling out a bunch of LTE cities in Ohio yesterday. A big part of the day I could only get 3g where I usually get 4g.

the problem is most likely you, not the kernel. don't use any sort of app that will affect the CPU frequencies or governer, and be careful which monitoring app you use. many will cause this behavior. if you absolutely must peek at the CPU, try this widget:

i've had positive results with it.

maybe it's system panel then? i've used system panel since GB, and on GB it shows it as constantly changing..but on all ICS stuff, which everyone else has agreed with, it shows constant 1512 and sometimes going to 384 then back up.
now, when i look at your apps widget here, its set to 5 sec interval and constantly scaling. is system panel bad?

are you restoring the wifi profile from google or from titanium? i have had this problem in the past. i just "forget" the network and re add it.
I do have google set to back up my settings, but it never seems to restore the wifi settings like it's supposed to, i always have to re-enter my wifi information each time i flash a new ICS leak onto the phone. I've read through various threads and tried a few different suggestions but none of them seemed to work.

Try RootBox with Dark Knight.. best combo for me.. you'll easily double your battery life
Another option is Slim ICS, very lightweight and battery friendly. Try some of the suggestions, each for a few days to allow for a couple of full battery cycles to take place. You can then make an informed decision about your daily ROM choice.

OK last night I let the phone go flat, removed the battery, put it back in and charged it when off. Phone has now just turned off flat.
Off charger at 9am this morning
Through out the day checked twitter a couple of times amounting to about 3 mins total.
Synced email 3 times.
Made a 2 min phone call
Used 3G for about 4 mins
Flashed back to GB via Odin.
Its now 6.30pm, phone turned off at 6pm, now today was actually very light use and I got 9 hrs before it died, On my old 4s with this type of use i'd still be at least 70% full.
...
A few tips and tricks Ive found....
- When you install a new ROM, go into recovery (Home, Vol Up, Pwr) Clear Data/ Factory Reset > Clear Cache > Reboot.. In that order.
- When you first set up WiFi on your phone, Dont install Apps you dont use from Google Play, as these can run in the background.. using battery life.. Just because Google Recommend them for your phone, donesnt mean you have to install them.
- Dont be tempted to register every single email address you have to Social Hub.
- If your a "update over WiFi" person, set phone to "GSM only", instead of "WCDMA/GSM Auto", also turn off "Mobile Data" in Settings..
- If your not running twitter, email checks, updating weather all day, turn off "Account Sync" in Settings and set your email accounts to "Never" check for emails.
- Try switching to a different launcher. Touchwiz 4 is very resource intensive, try moving to Go Launcher or ADW or another one.. theres loads of advice on here and the webn about launchers, but for me Personnally, I like Go, but thats me.
2 Im not sure about, so some more in the know people here can advise please:
- In Settings > Display check ON, Auto Adjust Screen Power, but Im not convinced about "Auto Brightness, as I think it needs to constantly keep scanning the sensor, but I could be wrong.
- Turn Off "Motion" may also help with battery life.
Ive tended to go back to GB236, but the latest 404 boasts better battery life, so like everyone advises, you just have to test new ways.
Good Luck
that's what I usually get out of my S2.
I think my old battery must of been dodgy. I bought one of them Samsung extended 2000 mAh batteries and its been excellent. I've been playing with the phone all day, I took it of charger at 7am, its now 7pm and its 65% left, That could easily do another day with light to moderate use.

I tried it but uninstalled it rather quickly. I didn't even have it installed long enough to tell how much difference it made.
After it got out of its "learning" phase, it consistently turned off my GMail push notifications, despite telling it not to, and turned my wifi on all the time. I was getting 2 days of battery life with the phone without the app, so I figured it wasn't worth the effort for me.
re
I have been using it for 5 days and I agree, it works fairly well besides WiFi. Any savings seem to be offset by the constant turning on. Try putting a WiFi widget on your homescreen and manually controlling WiFi, and let the app do everything else.

What exactly is bad about the wifi control? Does turning off at night stop you from getting notifications (ie. email)?
I actually prefer to be on wifi since I'm on a limited shared plan.
I have been using it for over a month and have had no issues with wifi. I usually finish the day with over 60% battery left. That is 13 hours before i put it on the charger.

big difference prior to using the app?
I actually just leave wifi on.. maybe that's why I only get 3 hours of screen time versus other people who get 4 or 5..
I uninstalled it a couple minutes ago lol. Makes my Google Now notifications that tell me when to leave like an hour late. Not cool :crying:
Not to mention how annoying it is to connect to the WiFi at my local McDonalds because it's called "dlink," the default name, which makes my phone "learn" to connect to every dlink. Ugh.
Mine has been in learning mode for like 2 weeks now... I don't know what the deal is... Doesn't really seem to be doing anything at all if you ask me.

[Q] Sudden change in Battery and Suspicious App?

Hello, all, since I've had my Note 2 I've been incredibly impressed with the battery live, much better than other droids I've owned. Within the last two weeks or so, however, I've seen a dramatic drop in battery life. Where I used to be able to last a day and a half without charging, The phone is now not capable of lasting through the day. There hasn't been any real change in my usage patterns, but I am constantly trying new apps, so I figured that one of the new ones must be the culprit. The stock battery stats indicated that Android System was consuming about 41 percent of the battery, which based on previous readings and having owned other droids seemed much too high. I downloaded Battery Stats Plus, which indicated hat the rogue app was wssyncmldm, consuming that same 41 percent. I wasn't familiar with this app, but google revealed that it manages ota updates? I tried rebooting the phone, and went back to Battery Stats Plus, which now indicated that same 41 percent, but named the app "Factory Test." I let the phone charge overnight to a full 100, then checking again today, I'm seeing similar numbers. Today Factory Test is listed at about 33 percent. Both apps are active in application manager, and reappear as soon as I force close them. Neither can be disabled on my stock, non-rooted note 2. I've not tried the factory reset just yet, was hoping to avoid that, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
Thanks so much, all!!!

I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I'll do my best.
Let's start with the obvious things
1. Try uninstalling any apps that you recently installed
2. In application manager go under all and look for the "wssyncmldm" culprit. I don't have it in my application manager but I have one that is very close in name
3. Have you recently installed any OTAs?
4. Are you rooted by any chance?
5. When I updated to the 4.1.2 update, I had a similar battery issue. I just ended up backing up all my apps with "Helium" (No root required if you plug it into a pc with some directions) and just did a factory in settings. It fixed the battery issue for me, though I never looked into it to see if it was this same culprit.
I hope I can help in some way, I'll try my best though!

Well every single one I have used, and I've flashed em all, are excellent. Don't be scared to flash em, the worst that can happen is you'll have a bootloop and you can restore your nandroid. They offer amazing features, some more so than others, and can make your phone run super fast with excellent battery life.

Would you mind posting links on your top 2 or 3? I might give them a shot since I have a nandroid backup.

Perseus, PB&J, and Sabre are probably the top three, not including stock.

I'm not running any rom right now... Just rooted 4.1.2. I've read faux was a good one though.

OK after running the latest faux kernel and adding grennify I'm back to 4.1.1 battery life... Thanks for giving me the push to flash the kernel.
