[Q] Remote locking software that works over WiFi. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need a way to remotely lock a device like all the anti theft software allows but it needs to be triggered over WiFi, does anyone know of such a thing?
I am allowing my a kid to use a old phone with no SIM card in it. But when he is bad I need a way to take him offline. I used to block the MAC address on my router but a neighbor has started having open WiFi so I can't block him anymore.

I still need this.

[Q] Block Wifi if VPN is down?

I want to ensure nothing on my phone as access to wifi if my vpn is not connected. Anybody know how I could achieve this?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
You might want to give Tasker a try. Llama (it's free / haven't used it though), or another Task automation tool might work too. It depends on how the app works, but you may have to do one or two things manually. For instance
Example Pseudo-code:
Code:
IF VPN app OPENED (
TURN OFF WIFI
SET VARIABLE vpnfrontend=1)
IF VPN app LOSES FOCUS (closed) (
ASK "Is VPN Enabled?"
IF YES (
ENABLE WIFI
SET VARIABLE vpnfrontend=0 )
IF NO (
SET VARIABLE vpnfrontend=0 ) )
That's the best I can think of off the top of my head.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply closeone.
I purchased Tasker a couple of days ago. Hopefully I'll be able to do this - afraid there are going to be some manual steps though. I bought WifiJumper to auto connect to hotspots (known or unknown) so my wifi phone (Samsung Galaxy Player YP-G70) would be more like a cell phone. I thought if I could get OpenVPN working on my phone it automatically tries to reconnect but it is sometimes a slow process - thereby leaving my wifi connection open for a minute or so.
The ultimate goal here is: Android is a lot like CarrierIQ in that it tracks every IP you log in from. So I want to use a vpn so the IP I login from is the same one no matter where I'm at. I'm not a hacker, pedo, or even using P2P - I just want my privacy. Kind of a principal type of thing.
Your code is similar to what I was thinking of but.... I'm thinking I won't be able to check to see if VPN is enabled and then turn on wifi because the vpn requires wifi access to connect.
I'm still new to Android but so far the only tool I see to block wifi access is Airplane Mode and I think it blocks all apps (including the vpn). Maybe pdroid or Droidwall have some options for what I want to do????
Got to thinking if Droidwall had profiles I could build a profile that had wifi blocked for everything except Vpn. Then use Tasker to check to see if vpn was up. If not then set Droidwall to that profile. Problem is I don't think there is a way to run Tasker rule constantly. So there would be data leakage.

Wifi blocked at work any bypass?

OK so work have blocked several of us from connecting our phones to wifi. Now we have a router her but can not access it so image they blocked at the main offices where they manage the network. Their are several houses that have their own routers etc but connected to the same network if that makes sense.
So my question is first how would they block us and second how can we bypass it?

Several ways to block access to a wifi routers.
Ways to access the network would be bring your own from home, and plug it in to the network.
To many ways to block you out to know what they have done.

Probably two reasons why they did this -
1) Prevent rogue devices connecting to their network, i.e. devices they cannot control what is on them and therefore could introduce viruses into the network or allows others to hack in and steal data etc.
2) Prevent people connecting personal devices for personal use, downloading files, facebook etc. Using company time and resources for unproductive personal tasks.
Probably easiest to ask them why and to ease the restrictions.
On the how:
You can control what connects to what on a very fine level - by device, by what it does and who it can talk to.
Ye I understand why. They blocked us as their network is really slow and rubbish but when we do nights and no one is using it its nice to be able to connect as no signal their. Just wondered if their was a way to get around it. They seem to have blocked all phones that were connected but one that was has been able to reconnect which is a blackberry.

How to by pass works blocking phone 2 options
By pass I've discovered! May not work for all
WARNING TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
#1 way I've discovered (in my office)
(Other wise try bring your own wifi router and setting the ssid to company's name )
If you have a pc or Mac computer and plug Incoming Ethernet port into LAN port not WAN then from 1-4 LAN port into pc/Mac Ethernet )
Try hiding your wifi router either in tower box or in desk try to be not so obvious leaving cables everywhere , don't just leave out in the open for everyone to see..
What I did
(I've hide the router in the under my desk using 3M double sided tape and tucked the cables away so there not hanging down)
#2 way ( works anywhere you can get a wifi signal)
My. Discovered by pass :
I got a wifi repeater/ range extender
I've programmed it to my work network with their ssid and password
Then
On the repeater / extender
Your new Access Point
I used the same ssid but used a different password
(At this point you have created your own AP , which logins to your network wifi and then
Now
When I go home I just unplug my repeater and lock it up in my desk
Good luck Jason
Ps: option #1. if you need more help try YouTube if your confused what to do with wifi router
SEARCH "using old router as a wifi extender (or as second AP)
My boss already block ssid wifi for usage at handphone, only laptop can connect that wifi. How i can connect wifi via my handphone? Currently i use i phone 6s.
Any trip for unblock for connect to my phone?
What kills me about my situation is some dumb ass did streaming video one day and ran up like XXXX gb of data so naturally they started giving a damn about who was doing what... I got banned/blocked even though I've never streamed... I'm assuming I'm blocked... got the right password and my old phone said authentication failed. My new phone it doesn't say or haven't found where it says yet... I can't bring in my own connection as I don't have a office of my own and the building is too big and metal for the mobile signal to make it to my location...
edit: According to my idiot boss they're getting strict I guess and just blocking most stuff... ?
"How did you happen to do such thing - and on your last day at the job..."

[Q] Lock every data connection

Hey,
A friend of mine wants to lock the data connection of his 11 years old daughter's phone. So i thought, this would be easy, change the DNS as root to localhost or something like that. I read that it is possible to do so with the Wifi connection, but not permanent with the mobile data. This would just work for the current session, after a phone reboot, the normal mobile data DNS is back.
So my question is, what could i do, to lock every data connection? Is it possible?
Thanks for the answers!
why not just remove all apns and saved wi-fi networks? then there would be no mobile networks or wi-fi networks to connect to.
also, why does an 11 year old girl have an s2? if one isn't able to check on what their child is doing on the internet, and/or won't let them on the internet at all, might the s2 not be a little much?
This girl is not stupid, she knows how to connect to a Wifi network. Also it's thus a metter of time, till she knows to add the correct apn, or a friend of her does it.
I need a solution to realy change someting, that data is no longer possible. So she, or someone who knows a little bit about smartphones cannot enable it.
well that certainly is respectable, she knows how to crack wpa2 wi-fi keys?
then your dns trick, even if it were stored permanently, would be no use either.
i don't know, what country you are from, but at least here, every carrier offers the possibility to disable mobile data connections for your sim card. that way, no matter what you try to set up, the carrier would not accept you into their mobile network.
Could you delete APNs and wifi keys, then lock the settings app so the 11 year old cannot access it to edit the connection settings?
ZDBox is freeware and contains a reliable app locking tool.

Prevent Certain Apps from Using My Work Wi-Fi - Anything better than Tasker?

Hi all,
I want to prevent certain apps from accessing my work Wi-Fi, mostly so my employer can't see what I'm doing. Specifically, I don't want to be connected to my employer's Wi-Fi while on Facebook, Evernote, etc.
For some other apps, I still want to use Wi-Fi to save data.
I just installed Tasker and have already a Task set up to shut off Wi-Fi for these apps. My question is: is this really secure? Does anyone think this will prevent my employer from seeing what's on my Facebook, or is there a flaw I'm not thinking of?
Ex: maybe Tasker has a delay which will allow my employer to see Facebook load anyway.
Alternatively, if anyone knows a more efficient way of doing this (in Tasker or anywhere else in Android) that'd be great.
Thanks
Question your boss is a hacker?
Because if he isn't he can't see anything in theory because he doesn't know how.
But you can use vpn connection as Hotspot Shield
so your traffic inside that network and all over the internet is encrypted.
You can also use "Firewall" for that.Firewall apps that they stop apps that you choose from getting access to internet.
if you aren't rooted try this one NoRoot Data Firewall . it use VPN
connection. So this vpn connection is local and when the blocked app tries to connect the internet it just get the localhost ip as gateway . the other apps continue to work normally.
if you are rooted try this one AFWall+ (Android Firewall +)
depends on your needs of course.

Searching a safe app to remotely locate phone, take photos and display SIM number

I'm searching an app (possibly open source) to remotely locate my phone, take photos (I mean from the camera, not stored photos) and display SIM number.
All communications should be encrypted and data should NOT pass through remote server (the server may be useful just for the initial connection but later data should travel directly).
Any suggestion?
If i am not mistaken so it would be illegal, wouldn't it ?
Why?
It must operate on my phone (not other phones), for example in cases where it is lost or stolen.
No you won't find anything like that. All data will go through a server of one kind or another.
But as stated apps like those are illegal in most places in the world.
I don't get what law do you mean.
I see a lot of apps doing these things (although without much security I think).
Can you please explain?
PS: I think one can use GCM to bootstrap then use a direct connection between server (maybe an app on the phone) and client (maybe a software on a pc).
You will have to make the app on your own.
Yes a few apps do this. Heck Google has one but in I think. (they are all useless as the first thing that is done when it is stolen is the Sim card is removed. Bypassing all security.)
I though you wanted to remotely install it.
Again you would have to make one on your own.
Just a side note. Security is a myth. If someone what's your info they will get it and there is nothing you can do about it. Just be glad that 99.9% private info is completely worthless.
No, I don't want to install anything remotely.
I install it now normally and then when I need: find location or other info remotely.
I know that completely security is impossible but I want these data to travel safely enough.
Well then I would setup your own server (not really hard with an old pc) even then the data will go through what ever server is supplying the connect. Like cellular networks or the wifi connection.
It is just an idea but maybe the phone itself can act as server when it receive a specific request from GCM.
There isn't any need of something always active, it can just activate on request using GCM I think.
