What the hell is up with the ads on the pull down notifications bar????????
I have the ad blocker app, but I'm getting two to three ads a day. Is there a way to stop this????
I think I got it, I found a website lifehacker.com and downloaded a app called AirPush Detector. I ran it and found two apps that run airpush adds. Hope this helps others....
Edit: when I used root uninstaller to remove the apps that were pushing airpush adds, the adds from my notifications were removed. So I'm hoping this is working.............
I don't get that. What apps exactly were pushing out the ads? Id be interested to know. Speaking of ads, It appears that ever since I've switched to Android, I've been swarmed with ads everywhere. Almost every app has ads crammed into them. And what pisses me off is that some apps will no longer work either if you do not have have your Internet connection turned on regardless if the actual app dont need internet to work.... Or the update will update the ads and suddenly you have to click on an ad to load a game in an emulator, each time. Some of these devs are getting ridiculously stingy or greedy. I been using emulators for years since 1999 and I never seen such ridiculous greediness or spammy advertising crammed into so many apps. Listen... Ill support the dev... But this forceful adverts is getting out of hand... Not to mention it slows my connection and the software. It kills my bandwidth. My bandwidth usage has skyrocketed since I started using apps on this phone. The as arevthe primary source of it.......
Ok... That is all. Its just a rant. No flames please. Im not bashing anyone here.
It's more than likely not your phone. It's probably an app you've downloaded that has a script to bypass the ads.

Grab an ad-blocker. They point the ads back to your phone localhost (127.0.0.1) and shouldn't hold you up when trying to display. Also, try to remember that the ad supported versions of apps are free. Most devs have a paid version that removes the ads.

When I rooted my rezound, I just used Nils' tool to install the ad-blocking host file and all was right in the world again.
You can also use ROM Toolbox to install an ad block file too.
Ad blocker does not block airpush ads. I have ad blocker and I was getting ads from apps that I downloaded like games. One of my games that I downloaded was using a program to push ads out in my area. Please read the website info I gave everyone on 2nd post. There is two things going on 1. ad blocker 2. airpush ads

You said since you switched to Android, I have a Ipad and it did the same thing until I jailbreaked the thing. I'm seeing if the game I downloaded was free (what is free in this world) the game dev has to get some type of kick back from someone. That's one of the reasons why I root my phone, to stop this kind of thing. I have no ads on my Ipad and Android after being rooted. I know about the ad block apps but I had no clue about apps using a program to airpush ads. But I got it after doing a little homework!!!! All is good, just download two apps from the market called ad blocker and airpush. Hope this helps.
Use adaway, in the market. you'll never see another ad, even in apps.
The host file is updated daily pretty much, and its free!

And when ads for gay singles sites pop up in these apps, you can bet your a$$ im not clicking on that nasty stuff. Most of these apps just displayed the ads, but some, after update, suddenly make you click before you can do anything. Like I said, I will support devs, but this is not the way I'll be doing it.

Hasn't for me. I just randomly started getting the ads, so I downloaded that app, and nothing. I even ran the app with an ad in my notification bar. Nothing....

Is there a program that is causing the pop up ads on the 3D and if so how do I get rid of it?

You can use CPU spy (i think thats the name...never had to use it myself but i hear its good for runaway apps) or maybe even the battery info tool built in to see what, if anything, is running after a fresh boot besides stock apps. Once you isolate the item you can remove the faulting APK and hopefully be in the clear. If its an APK you just got to have i'd root and install AdFree by Big Tin Can to install and maintain an actively updated hosts file that routes all typicall ad call's back to the local machine (set address 127.0.0.1).

Some developers are doing this type of advertising now. Check comments for the complaints. I know there are apps to detect some of these advertising methods but I can't remember them. I've had it happen with some live wallpapers and games. If I'm not mistaken, I've had it happen with at least 1 app from the GO Dev team (maybe a wallpaper they did? Can't remember).

Ads in the notification bar are called AirPush ads (new company introduced them). There's an app called AirPush-Detector that will tell you what apps are using it. See if that helps.
Is there anyway to figure out where they are coming from? I tried removing the last couple of apps I downloaded but I still get one occasionally. Thanks in advance

What ROM are you running? Come from? Odd apps with stranger permissions? Have you tried LBE Privacy Guard to see what is sending/receiving?

That app the jr67 posted the link to seems really promising. I think you should check that out. I have D9 as my "home" ROM and I haven't seen these yet. But I am hyper-maintenance oriented though, so that might be why. Also might want to look into Adfree on the market too.
Yeah I downloaded both apps mentioned and I am now monitoring. I do have adfree however it says my host file is up to date. I will post a screeny if it pops back up.

Hey, woodrube, if you're really curious about what those notification ads look like try installing a call filter app called Easy Filter. It was actually a pretty good call filter but it wasn't worth putting up with all those ads.
AdAway is a good alternative to Adfree. They work the same way but Adaway also let's you blacklist/whitelist specific sites yourself. You can try digging through the logcat to find the site that's delivering the ad then blacklist it.
Autostarts = win
once you figure which app is the culprit (and presuming its an app that you want to keep), purchase an app called "autostarts". it is well worth the $1 or whatever it is. the app is pretty self explanatory, it prevents apps from opening by themselves under certain conditions. open the app, let it populate scenarios, and just go through each category and if you see the culprit listed - DISABLE THAT *****.
once you do this, you will now be able to kill/force stop the app whenever youre done using it, and you will never see/hear from it again until you open it yourself.
i use this method for Blood & Glory, and no ads for me ever.
DISCLAIMER: Autostarts is a VERY powerful app and you are definitely going to want to explore it, but dont fool around with system apps unless you are 100% sure you know what you are doing. this goes the same for any other app that is important to your personal desired functionality of your phone (third party texting apps, facebook app, twitter, camera, etc.)
what i personally did was downloaded a conventional task manager to find out which apps like to plot behind my back. i made a list of the ones that never have any business being open unless i open them, then went into autostarts and disabled them under the rescpective scenarios. this program is fantastic for saving battery and RAM
Yeah thanks a lot. I think I got rid of it but not sure which app was causing it because I uninstalled a few at once. I will keep that app in mind if I ever run into this problem again.

Hey guys, I recently downloaded or updated an app that has started pushing ads to my notification bar. This is abso-****ing-lutely unacceptable. I was wondering if anyone knows of any apps that are confirmed guilty of this? I can't figure out which app is guilty, and i uninstalled over 100MB of apps trying to find the culprit, but there it was again in my notification bar after work today. Also, is there a way to figure out which app is doing it? I have a very very nasty email waiting for the dev who thought this was a good idea once I figure out who it was.

I remember reading on the front page that a Japanese *carrier* was starting to do that. Screw money-hungry devs, when my CARRIER starts to do that, I'm going to a different carrier, and when they all start to do it then the ROM-flashing community will be growing by leaps and bounds, I'll wager.

I installed "Bloat Freezer" free and started getting push adds. Uninstalled and they were gone. coincidence??

I've been getting the same ads, but Adaway isn't doing anything. Could Adfree be any different?
Also, I think these are tied to a specific app I've installed - anyone know which one might be causing this? I've never seen ads like this in the notification tray - they show up with a big green "+" sign.

if this is something that's been occurring recently, check the notifications for any recent apps you installed.
adaway works great for me and dramatically increases browser page loading speeds. does a great job at eliminating ads.
This typically happens when you download a free app. Paying for the app should not give you pop ups. In my past i havent had any luck with ad blocker. I use adhoc on my HTC Sensation.
I had the same thing. And they are right. It is from a free app. I tried everything to get rid of it and could not even when I deleted all apps I installed. I ended up resetting to factory and reinstalling apps. No problems since.
Download addons detector from the market and see what app is the culprit of the leadbolt ads. Then uninstall it.
Ad Network Detector by Lookout Labs.
They're almost always spot on at identifying the programs that are causing the annoying issues.

I would have recommended adfree (rq root) but it reduces flash functionality for video playback on some websites
Installed "airpush detector" from the market and discovered that Tablet Wallpapers was the app giving me the spam in my notification bar. Uninstalled it, so hopefully that will do the trick!

All the above mentioned apps worked for me as well. I am ad free now! The best for me was Ad Network Dedector whitch found all kinds of apps on my Prime. Good luck!
If an app is sending ads to your notifications bar, you should find out which app it is, leave the most negative review possible regarding the notification bar ads (but be polite, people ignore reviews filled with curse words) and then uninstall the app.
If people don't use an app because it has notification ads, then app developers will stop using this method of advertising to promote their products.
Honestly though, Google needs to step in and stop people from spamming the notifications bar with advertisements. That area is for important information, not crap like "50% Off Downloadable Armor in Blood & Glory!"

YIKES!,,,,I hope I don't have to go that route....
Lookout Security & Antivirus found mine in ChargeBar Free Edition,
ChargeBar came embedded in the NottachTrix 2.3.0 ROM.
I installed it (NottachTrix) and it (ChargeBar) didn't update for 3 months, then, BANG.
I've deleted ChargeBar's update, moved it from system apps to apps, deleted it, and the browser pop open 'ad.leadboltads.net' still persists.
Lookout Security & Antivirus can not find the new location of the malware, they do not have a forum.
By the very definition and behaviour, this is malware, and, ChargeBar (Asgard Casino Apps) is involved in the distribution of malware.
Asgard Casino Apps distributes 34 apps that behave this way.
They are using Google to distribute this malware, abet, that app is benign in its origin, its a pipeline, or conduit for malware.
Sneaky F##kers aren`t they.........

I know that a Virus can be an issue on the nadroid phone but is a BIG issue? And if so which Anti-Virus woukd be ideal both as a free option and paid one, also taking into mind battery consumption and system footprint?

anti virus apps aint worth it.. i dont know anyone that uses them.. they deff kill ya battery..

i use norton and yeah they're useful... it found 5 malware apps on my phone... and battery only uses 2 percent batt. so it doesn't eat a lot of bat.

Just use avg to scan New apps as they are downloaded-installed. Really the only way u can get viruses on your phone since android isn't an exe haven.
As for the active protection internet crap, it is just a battery killer. Unless u have problems clicking on viagra ads and browsing jailbaitvirusjailbreak.com... Who doesn't tho rite?

These security firms pad their findings and make it look worse then it is, avg released a report last year about some 200 malware apps and neglected to mention they were apps that were sideloaded because the majority had already been removed by Google. These companies thrive on ignorance and fear.
So I'm guessing that anti-virus apps are kinda useless unless I'm installing apps that are not on google play right?
That's the short story...
There are phishing schemes out there too, so antivirus can help if you click on ads on accident or on purpose.
Best thing for that though is Ad-free or Adaway. They remove all ads from your phone whether it be thru the browser or in app.
You need to be rooted to use them, but they can be found on the playstore easily.
So, if you are looking for protection from apps not downloaded from google playstore then use avg or Norton, whatever u feel is the best. Keep in mind that all you need is the virus scanner and for it to be updated regularly. All the other bells and whistles contained within the programs are unnecessary.
There are only 2 ways you can get malware on your android phone. One is thru installing apks (apps). They are the executable files (exe) to windows. Unlike windows our android phone gets an install prompt to install the app as well, so u have a warning. If u didn't initiate the install or don't recognize what it is then don't install it.
Basically, if u only download your apps from google playstore you have nothing to worry about. Google scans all of the apps before they post them on play. Sometimes things get thru, but they are usually ridiculous apps made in Russia or other foreign countries. That's not to say a great app from the US won't ever sneak a virus in, but typically it doesn't happen.
Oh, and the other way malware can affect you is by clicking on ads. They are usually on sketchy sites anyways. These will be phishing schemes. The sole purpose of them is to obtain your personal info for financial gain.
Like I mentioned above, install Adaway, or adfree. If you have rom toolbox use the ad blocker in there. Or if you are not rooted then just don't click on any ads. If you do then make an educated decision before doing so. Good "phisherman" can disguise whole websites to look exactly like your bank's. Everyone can be fooled so just use your brain my friend.
