Upload files to Skydrive and open from this location...

And after opened it, select the menu on the right and select Save as then you can give it a name and you got it.
Had also that kind of problem before

File explorer

Hi !
I was wondering if there is any chance of having a file explorer in the near future .
Any thoughts?
For what purpose? Browsing pictures and wideos?

No
For what purpose?
Why the question about purpose? A file explorer is generally a pretty useful thing to have. Re-opening downloaded files is a good example.
It looks like somebody have not understood the logic of windows phone.

And maybe you didn't understand the logic of the question...
A file Explorer will be nice so that you can decide for your self where to store files like e-mail attachments. I'm still recieving Zip file attachments.
For the amount of time windows phone has been available and still no file explorer...i wouldn't expect one anytime soon. If i recall correctly, its not even possible right now.

Weird contradiction of logics on the same topic.
At least give us your logic of the one you understand and someone else will give you in more detail the logic of what you do not understand.

Though you had a valid point that honestly made me laugh, I find that a file explorer would help in some ways: Renaming files, changing locations, finding email/messaging attachments easier. Renaming files has been a huge issue for me, but I can just do that from my computer at home.
Some people think they should have those features built right into the phone, so you have to understand that they want a file manager.

Hopefully you are just toying with him , with your response. The intent of his response was to indicate that the Windows Phone system has integral plan and purpose in restricting where files, pictures, downloads, etc are stored. This is most likely to insure the integration with Skydrive and its Office apps, etc. This has been in play since the release of Windows Phone 7 2 years ago. Microsoft has not deviated from this. Anyone doing any research about Windows Phone would know this. The response just highlighted that a potential new WP user was asking a question.
A quick look around Windows Phone.com and/or several wiki type sites on the web will help fill in the blanks, and will help you understand what Microsoft will and won't allow access to. Hence, the lack of a file Manager.
If you own Windows 8, you can get a little access into the folder system by connecting your device and using the Windows Explorer to see what is accessible. But you will find access limited to Storage areas and a few other spots like Documents, music, Pictures, videos and Ringtones.
As a reminder, you as an OP should have done a quick search of the forum to bring up this already known situation. Your responder should have reminded you of that, and posted a non sarcastic response..again, as per forum guidelines. Isn't life hard enough without getting into pissing contests over a mobile device app?
Well I'm working with Windows since 1988... There was GEM before then long after got ipad1 android and now wp8. All previous had a file manager...
Now as an example I was downloading a FLAC file via bluetooth
The system just was happy to download the file on the phone...
Now as we know no flac player the file got on the file system somewhere
but I was unable to locate it for deleting it as is is 15 mb of useless data
Now what?
So looked at for a file explorer but nada...
Connecting the phone to the PC only showed the basic stuff
So where did that file ended up?
Surely wp8 is nice fresh what ever you want but common that stuff is sooooo locked up worth than apple.. Surely good for security as praised by some but personally I start to hate this paranoia and philosophy that what you bought is actuality not yours..
Please someone teach me where that file ended up maybe I missed something?

This may be of some help. It's not a file manager like on Windows, but you can manage downloads and there is a file manager section. I would post the link, but I'm new. The application is called "getthemall".

A few questions about windows 8 phones

Hello everyone,
i am new to this forum and that is why i am posting it here. I am going to buy a new phone. The one i have stinks, however that is not the issue i want to address. I am stuck between samsung galaxy s3 and the windows 8x by HTC. The thing is that i use it for school and need to address some things about it
1) i download files a lot from my schools site, powerpoints, .rtf files, word documents, etc. So i need to know if i can download and view them right on my phone.
2) is the office application to view these files good? can i edit files if i want? SOLVED
3) i frequently use dropbox. is it supported? SOLVED
4) does it support mobile hotspot? i don't use it frequently but i have a tablet that on small occasion i have to use the hotspot.SOLVED
5) is the battery life ok on the 8x? SOLVED
6) is back up assistant on the 8x? i have verizon. if not how can i save my contacts if i go with this phone?
7) is IE 10 a good browser? i have never tried it.SOLVED
8) how is the app store? good or bad? does it have a navigation app? SOLVED
sorry for all the questions. i dont have an upgrade and want to make sure i get the right phone for the money.
i don't need to ask any questions about the s3 because i know android and that it works for all the above mentioned.
Thanks to anyone who can give me some guidance here.

Not helpful
I think (but i'm really subjective) that WP8 is better than android for "working": Office is really helpful and you can read .ppt and .doc documents. Dropbox is supported and you can create an mobile hotspot easily. IE10 metro is really better than its predecessors (in desktop i still use chrome ). The app store is...mh...is better the android one i think, but compared to the wp7's store, the wp8 one is good

looks like you are in luck...
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp8/office/microsoft-office-mobile-faq
MS Office Mobile opens all files shown below:
Office Mobile app: Supported file types
Word Mobile: .doc, .docx, .dot, .dotx, .dotm, .docm, .txt, .rtf
Excel Mobile: .xls, .xlsx, .xlt, .xltx, .xlsm, .xltm
PowerPoint Mobile: .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .ppsx, .pptm, .ppsm
OneNote Mobile: .one
You should start using SkyDrive if you are going to get windows phone
I use android, and I use most of these services...
Dropbox for auto upload full size images to web instantly then download to pc.
GoogleDrive for backing up unlimited amount of photos on web (size decreases to 1024px width/height max )
SkyDrive for taking notes on the go and office files.
WP8 does support DropBox...
search for more apps here...

have fun, do let us know what you buy at the end.
Thanks!
Your contacts will probably be backed up on passport/Microsoft/msn/Hotmail/live account.

[Q] Cannot received beamed iems

Hello, I'm having an issue regarding NFC beam. I tried to use this feature for the first time yesterday. I tried to transfer a few different items between my EVO 4G LTE ( stock w Jellybean) and a Samsung Galaxy S III. they seem to connect and my phone shows the progress of the file transfer go to 100% but then says "beam did not complete". The galaxy S can receive and save files fine from my phone. Is there anything i can do to fix this? or s this a known issue?
Any help appreciated, thx,
I believe Samsung uses S Beam to send media, which the Evo does not have. I think the Evo uses Android beam to send contacts, web links, youtube links etc. Thats about all you can send.
Brand new feature! But not much functionality with this phone...
It works well with wallet, NFC tags, and YouTube links. But I'd like to be able to use it for pictures, videos, and apps, etc...

You can do all that, but only between 2 HTC phones. Like the other post said, Samsung can't send it to you but you can send to them.

S4 and IMac

I just recently purchase an IMac and am just learning how to use it.
When I plug in the S4 to the IMac it gives tow options on the phone, I check transfer files because I want to drag and drop some songs onto the S4 but when I go to the IMac I do not see the phone showing up on it.
Any Ideas what I am doing wrong?
It was so simple on the PC before.
Thank you,
Steven

Download Android File Transfer. I'm a Mac user and this works for me. You can also try isyncr to get an iTunes like experience, although I don't use it myself. I have heard a lot of good things about it. Stay away from DoubleTwist, it only supports data transfer over WiFi because its not compatible with MTP file transferring. Kies sucks, in my experience, but may work or you too. I recomend making Kies your last option if you don't like the others.

Android File Transfer to your Mac, it allows for drag and drop. However, if you have already installed Kies, you need to uninstall it before trying to use Android File Transfer. Kies blocks it.
