Coming from 2.2.1 to latest infectedrom - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend asked me to put a custom ROM on his thunderbolt. He still has stock rooted 2.2.1 with revolutionary s-off. My question is besides updating the radios is there anything I should do before flashing rom? Not my phone so i don't want to mess it up even though I ran him through the usual disclaimer.

He didn't want to wait so went ahead with the radio flash then ROM and everything went off without a hitch.

Depends, did you take the OTA or did you install a custom rom to get to 2.3.4. If you took the OTA and you weren't rooted before I don't know if you can go back. The HTC unlocker method of rooting will not let you install a kernel so I don't believe you will be able to flash a 2.3.3 rom since it will require an compatible kernel.
If your on 2.3.4 taking the ota then there is no way to go back to 2.3.3

Stock rom and updates? will it work

my phone is rooted and i just put the stock rom on it (Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_odex.zip) after having a different rom my question is when ICS update comes in 2 weeks (for sprint users in the usa) will the update work and be applied? or will i just get an error?
I believe you will also have to relock your bootloader and install the stock ruu which puts the stock recovery on.
I recommend that you wait until a dev comes out with a custom based off the ota. It will be more awesome.

That Sucks is there any way I could go back to stock stock so I can update threw HTC when released
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
NEVER EVER take an update when you are rooted. Every single guide to rooting tells you this.
There is no need to relock to take the update when it comes out. Just wait about an hour, and someone on here will have a flashable version of the stock rooted rom. Flash it like any other rom, simple as that, no need to worry about bricking.
Well I don't really care about it not being rooted any more

Just find the stock RUU for your phone.
Depending on whether your CDMA or GSM and what carrier.
It shouldn't be hard. Just use the search.
Then follow the instructions to flash it, make sure you have the stock HTC recovery and relock the bootloader.
Your phone will be stock!

Ah, no problem, you should be fine.
When flashing the stock RUU, if done properly, you should automatically get the stock recovery.

Soab 1.04 boot looping any ideas ?

I have a thunderbolt s-on radio 1.49 I'm running a sense 3.0 ROM at the moment with cwm I've been wanting to try the bliss ROM soab but everytime I install I get stuck at the boot screen then just starts over but never booting into the Rom. I'm a experienced user been toying around since 2007 so if u can help me out let me know thanks

I bet you that the Rom you are trying to flash has a different kernel and that is why it is bootlooping. You need to flash the stock kernel or try using 4ext. It has an s on flashing tool.

Ok that sounds right can u point me to the right place to get the stock kernel ?

What if I boot into recovery useing comand prompt
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
Won't make a difference if you boot using a command prompt. If the Rom has an aftermarket kernel it won't boot for your device because it will be unable to flash the custom kernel since you're s on. It can however be done you just have to go about it a different way. I do.t know how to do it that way though but there are guides. I would try getting s off honestly. It's easy to do.

definitely flash back to stock rom and get s-off it makes things so much easier
Yea it does thanks u guys I flashed back to stock from hboot then used the thunderbolt tool gained s off then flashed recovery wiped then installed booted right up thanks for your help

New update question

So I am running SuperChargedHatka rom and they just updated to the new ota. Ok my question is are we better off flashing back to stock. Relocking. Updating. Then unlocking again? Are there things in the update we can't get with custom roms?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Anyone? Is it more beneficial to go back to stock everything and accept the update then unlock again and install a custom ROM? Or is there no real benefit.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
If you relock, stock, update then unlock and flash a rooted Rom, make sure it has the update in it or you will possibly flash the old rom files over the new..
Sent from my Droid DNA using Tapatalk 2...
You can't get the new radios or hboot just by flashing the ROM. So if you want them then you have to lock, run ruu, update, and unlock again. Kind of a pain but just the way it is right now. If you have the unlock bin you originally got from HTC it does make it a little easier.
Sent from my Droid DNA running ZoneDNA ROM..
Alright cool. That's what I was wondering. Too bad flashgui won't flash radios too

Stock ROM to update profile

I'm rooted, soff, on dirty unicorn ROM with boot 1.40 on virgin mobile. Looking for a ROM that I can flash real quick to update my profile and prl and then flash back to a jb ROM. Any suggestions?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I'm not sure what roms are compatible with 1.40.
Have you considered using hboot 1.50? It's compatible with all GB and JB roms.
zr3d gt is a good one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551360
I'm not sure if it will work with 1.40 but I'm guessing it will. Worse that will happen is bootloop and you restore your backup.
I used harmonia and it worked. Everything updated and working now I'm running wild for the night cm build. Pretty pleased
