Anyone have any good recommendations for VNC apps? I just rooted and was playing around with BT5 using pocketcloud and it seems pretty smooth. However I was wondering if anyone knows a vnc app that supports mouse right click and can disable long clicks. When I long click, i'm usually dragging a scroll bar in BT5, which translates to dragging the screen around in the VNC client which is kind of annoying.
also, when I don't have internet, i can't seem to vnc into bt5. Does anyone know if this is normal?
you should be able to vnc into localhost:5901 without internet. Localhost=your local device.
If you are using something else like your wifi ip address then it will ofcourse not work without wifi.
yea, i used 127.0.0.1:5901 but that should be localhost:5901. Oddly enough, doesnt work. However, under wifi it works.
let me resurrect this thread... im also looking for a proper vnc client with better mouse support with dbl click and right click... more specifically for dock users like me

i just installed the free version of pocket cloud and it seems to have support for right click (via external usb wireless mouse) and double click too i imagine? It also has sound support, although i thought that was only for pro users...?

I've been trying to program on eclipse on my tf201, using vnc to control my linux desktop...
... it's such a painful thing to do.
tried many android clients, they're all lacking of something, each its own strengths and weaknesses... But none is to the point where it's productive to do so.

Oh, and to answer your question, apparently PockedCloud does the job almost to the point where it's usable but some of the key mappings are wacky. you can however use the pointer options to show/hide the virtual keyboard.
give it a try.
need internet free vnc
Ok so I've got a home WiFi network. I do not have internet.. The WiFi is used for sharing info from my desktop with my Xbox DVD player allow me to print from phone etc. Basically huge share server. But now I would like to beable to control my phone via PC through WiFi and visa versa control PC through phone on network. I've seen many tutorials that say plug phone in via USB and tether. I don't want to tether as it will use my data and here in Canada our mobile plans are absolutely ridicoloius period let alone data. So I have a small amount of data and going over it always seem to result in my bill doubling... An already $70/ mo plan. So I want to beable to setup a vnc server over my WiFi without using data/internet/3G or anything.
Any ideas?

I am looking for a remote control/keyboard/remote desktop app. I have seen several of them in the market, but I have a specific want and I don't know if any will do this.
I want to be able to sit in the livingroom and control my PC that is attached to my TV. I currently use a wireless keyboard, but the biggest issue with that is the text is too small, and I basically have to walk over to the tv to use it. I know there are settings for large fonts, etc, but I use the PC for several things and that change is impracticable.
So what I am hoping for is to have my G Tab in my lap and be able to see the computer screen and control it using the g tab... BUT also be able to see what I am clicking on and the results of those clicks on the TV/PC.
When I use Remote Desktop, it logs off the TV/monitor connection and only routes the video to what ever device is logged in... I want it on both devices. Maybe like the remote tech support people can do on some PC's.
Can you point me in the right direction for an app like that.
I use remotedroid. Works perfectly with the gtab

I looked at this, and it does look cool but I already have a wireless keyboard, with a trackball built in. I like the idea, but it is not what I am looking for.
I am looking for a program that when you look at the G Tab you see the computer screen, and when you look at the monitor/tv you see the same thing. Then you can use the tablet as the control. All movement and visuals are repeated on both screens. Like having dual monitors except 1 is the touch screen tablet. I think PhoneMyPC would do it, but I am not sure.
I use PocketCloud VNC. It seems quite smooth. You might not want VNC though, but it would solve your text size issues, I think.
But Pocket Cloud does not show both screens at once, as the OP is desiring, does it?
boufa, there was a thread around here recently about using the g-tab as a second monitor, so I know it works like that; but I don't know how to control the PC from the g-Tab while seeing both screens. I'm using Pocket Cloud as well.
You guys are great, pointed me in the rough direction, and found TeamViewer.
It looks to do exactly what I want it to do. Full clone of the desktop via Wifi or 3g. I was supprized that it was free for non-commercial use.
I tested it and it works good on my HTC Inspire over 3g, I won't have my G Tab until tomorrow night so I cannot test it until then. I'll report back.
I picked up LogMeIn Ignition from the Amazon Market when it was on sale this past weekend (still $15). I was wondering if anyone had experience using it over webtop. I have heard some folks using the web app via Firefox in webtop just fine.
Getting a laptop dock for Christmas and have never used webtop before. Excited to give it a try.
FYI the laptop docks are on sale at AT&T, 99bucks new and 75 for a refurb.
If you're using the webtop you can use Logmein through the browser and don't need an app.
I haven't tried it so I'm not sure how the performance is, but that's how I'd do it.
Yeah that's what I've been reading as well. I might have to break out the HDMI cord and see for myself before the laptopdock gets here.
Please update and let us know how this works. i have the mobile app and use it all the time for several computers. I have a lapdock on the way and was wondering how well it worked or if i was going to have to use the browser version. Thanks for testing this.
Looks like Ignition via WebTop is a No-go
Well I gave LogMeIn Ignition a shot on webtop (via HDMI) and there are a couple of reasons I believe everyone will stick with the browser log-in version.
1. Mouse controls are very hinkey - even if you toggle the settings it's difficult to click anything (I was using my phone as the mouse, but I think results would be similar with a physical mouse or the laptopdock trackpad.
2. The resolution is cruddy, and the resolution controls in ignition didnt do anything for me.
Well there's our answer - for now. If anyone tries this on their laptopdock before I get mine please let us know how your experience is.
You could've picked up Team Viewer for free & the service is free on your PC also, it does everything that LMI does but free (for non commercial use)......PLUS it works for Linux

+1 Actually, TV does much more than LMI free. File Transfer for one, which I HAVE to have.
Has anyone used TeamViewer with just hdmi mirroring (Not LapDock)? Right now the smoothest and quickest way I've been getting Remote Control is just using Ignition directly on the phone...since it seems to be the least laggy and more precise when navigating. The next best is using the hotspot to my net-book and java web interface logmein. But that's a hassle because I have to undo my static IP settings on my net-book every time to get it work correctly with hotspot. Maybe TeamViewer via hdmi would be a quicker solution?
Would have to set up TeamViewer on quite a few computers just to try it...so who's tried them all?
Thanks

Googling around I see the original Transformer can do a remote desktop with a Windows computer. So I ask...
How good is it? Is it very choppy or smooth like you are really on that other computer?
And do you have to be on your home network to access it or can you be somewhere else and access your home computers on the internet?
I'm wondering this just because I'm not 100% sure this could be a good laptop replacement, but I could just access my Windows 7 desktop on it and it work well, I'm getting the Prime ASAP.
I think Splashtop, from what I've read, is what you want. Supposedly the best and fastest. I believe as long as home pc connected to Internet, you can access it anywhere from prime as long as it has a good connection also. Get splash top HD for android tablet. Then get free splash top program for pc. Supposedly a very easy setup, basically one click n you good to go. The prime client will automatically find the pc version and connect.
it's fine depending on what you want to do with it.
not fast or 1:1 mapped well enough to play most games, but to access files, even use productivity apps to a degree (i've made small changes to illustrator files) is pretty handy.
Sounds good. I won't be playing any games or anything like that, just want it for MS Office mainly and some other programs that won't be available on Android.
The laptop I have now if still perfectly functional and works great but I love the portability of the Prime. If I could just leave this laptop on a desk and use my Prime to access it whenever I need that would be perfect.
I'm so getting this now, can't wait.

Honestly, tons of apps to remote connect to your desktop.
Try also logme in (free and paid version, but free should be enough) and Teamviewer is also excellent - especially once you get used to the mouse pointer, very precise.
Teamviewer is completely free.
I am actually looking for an RDP client. Anyone can suggest a good one? I have iTap on iPad, but since that is going on a shelf to collect dust, I need something for Prime.
splashtop is also free as asus includes it in the tablet (they call it something else, myasus or some stupid name, but it's splashtop)
splashtop has been the best (for me) out of the few that i've tried.

This would be ideal. These other apps that send images are not in the same league as a true RDP client.

I use this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.xtralogic.android.rdpclient&feature=search_result ... it is a bit pricey but I use it for work so it was totally worth it. It is seamless as an RDP client. Just make sure you use a physical keyboard or a software that has all the keys you need without switching back and forth (such as A.I. Type Keyboard)
Is the included Splashtop that Asus bundles in the regular Splashtop or the Splashtop HD?
i'm going to assume the HD variant since they list comptability with the TF101 on there...
Splashtop is the only one I've used that properly utilised the Transformer's keyboard dock, brilliant app (original Transformer that is).
I'm using Splashtop HD, I think the included splashtop in the TF101 is the regular version.
Anyway splashtop HD is a wonder. At first I tought that was going to be a headach to setup, then I tried:
1) Install Splashtop HD on your computer (it automatically update)
2) Install Splashtop HD on your tablet.
3) Log into both with your regular google account
Done.
It find automatically your devices everywhere on wifi and 3G.
If you re on the same wifi network as the computer you re accessing it's blazing fast almost no delay. Browsing the web with the real chrome browser at full speed on a tablet is a joy by itself (and make you realise the huge gap there still is between mobile device and desktop computer in terme of browsing speed )
If you re on over the internet there is more delay, depending on your connection both at home and currently but it's still usable for quick files transfere, small correction. I do some tweeks on Maya (CGI software) that way and it's really convenient to be able to check and redo some rendering that happen home when you're at work.
I dont know Splashtop, seems to be very nice. But Teamviewer is also excellent on every platform!
I am partial to Logmein. I support my customers with it. It's completely free on PC, but if you want to access it from a mobile device, you need to fork over $30 for the Logmein Ignition app. Their ipad app is pretty nice, and I test drove Android app on Samsung Tab. Great thing about Logmein, is that it does not require any tinkering with routers, or dynamic DNS.

I would suggest a VPN service. There's a monthly fee, but it gives you full access to the web. And I believe it should work with "Great Firewall of China". I personally use StrongVPN. Service is something around $7/mo and works quite well.
This page has setup instructions for almost every device: http://www.strongvpn.com/setup.shtml

I think the one who already linked to it earlier in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20126208&postcount=9
tried it.
I used Logmein Ignition for Android. It supports (connecting to) a system with Multiple Monitors. Allows you to scale the screen to the default of your Transformer, with a dialog to switch back and forth between monitors.
I had to pay again Ignition for Android, to go with the one I use for Windows.
I've also surmised that SplashHD is mainly designed to allow you to shadow HD movies being played on your main PC, being i/o'd to your Transformer. Supports one monitor, and navigation in the window is a pain.
I use SplashHD religiously for Hulu+ until Hulu gets of their deadweight asses and supports the Transformer directly.

New to android and I am looking for a good(free) Remote Desktop app to connect to my Win7 computer through my own wifi network.
I am wanting to be able to remotely control a video switcher that can only be controlled by a hardware panel or a PC program.
Thanks
download getjar's app from getjar.com go to the gold apps and find splashtop and download it. works like a charm.
I would also suggest team viewer. This thing is amazing and will also allow you to control someone else's computer via your computer or phone. Works perfectly and just requires you to be on the website on the connected computer.
EDIT: I just used this app from my phone the other day to fix a friend's computer. All they had to do was get to the website and I took control of the computer on my phone. I was half a city away and it worked perfectly.
The shows I am in we most the time don't want there to be an internet connection. So It sounds like teamviewer won't work for me.

Can TeamViewer be used within a local network (LAN) only?
You can establish Remote control sessions on your local network directly by using IP addresses or computer names.
By default this feature is deactivated because software firewalls may open an acceptance dialog when configured this way.
To activate the LAN mode in TeamViewer full version and Host module:
In the menu click on Extras and then on Options
On the General tab activate Accept incoming LAN connections
When selecting accept exclusively it will display the IP-address of the computer in the ID-filed.
A connection can now be establisher using the IP-address or alternatively using the host name.
If you want to use RDP you can't go wrong with this
http://www.appbrain.com/app/remote-desktop-client/com.xtralogic.android.rdpclient
Yes it is $25 but it is one of the few apps I consider worth buying. It even works over different VPN connections.
+1 for team viewer. I fix my families computers back in chicago, im in california. Works great on the phone to.

Teamviewer works just great I used it both connecting to a mac and pc.
Now i am wondering if any of the other apps have a non mouse based control? So I can just touch the phone screen as if it was a touch screen on the computer. The program I wish to control is just a GUI that looks like the hardware panel.
But I am sure that is not a very easy thing to build from the programing side and have it work clean. Maybe a screen share with a TUIO mapped over it? Just thinking out loud...
Thanks for the info so far everyone!

Wow... that is so cool! Just tested it out on my laptop. Best thing is now I can control my mom's computer remotely when she needs tech support which will make it MUCH easier when she calls for help after her evening cocktail and wine with dinner on top of not knowing what I mean when I say "desktop". lol.
It's a little tricky since when you're controlling the cursor you have to move the opposite direction to get to another part of the screen than you would if you were flicking a regular app on your phone. Just have to get used to it. I guess that's what Shermanpat was talking about in the post above.
Wow, I'm shocked nobody plugged pocket cloud. I love it. Just the fact that it gives you a useable mouse(right click, click lock, etc) should put it high up on the list..

I'm looking for a remote desktop client for my transformer prime. i tried many from the market and they all have some annoying issues that make it really unusable on day-to-day.
for example, pocket cloud, when u try to click on a scroll bar and drag the pointer in order to simply scroll the window the entire screen is dragged and there is no way to lock it.
do you guys use any client with the dock? which do u prefer? does it fullfill all ur needs?
Splashtop comes with it, works great otherwise I use TeamViewer

You don't mention what you are trying to connect to - VNC, RDP? Windows? Mac? Linux?
Personally I have found Jump Desktop to be really good. Supports both RDP and VNC, and has full mouse support including scroll wheel ,right click etc.
After Jump, I found Remote VNC Pro and Remote RDP Pro to be good.
I have never used Splashtop as it requires a desktop component that only runs on Windows so is no use to me.
Hope this helps.
BTW, there is an existing long thread on this very subject which it would have been better for all if you had looked for rather than opening another one.
2x remote works great and it is free rdp, the built in splashtop hd is even quicker but it does not blank out the computer you are controlling. i reccomend itap mobile rdp client to my customers who need ts gateway support but it costs 15 bucks. all these apps support right click, but 2x is by far my favorite.

You are definitely right! The most seamless client is 2x remote. Right click works out of the box, don't have to emulate it by holding left click.
Splashtop is definitely good, I hope I can make sound redirect work. But the fact that the mouse cursor don't follow android's, make it difficult to hover for hints, etc, but it works on 2x. I hope I can explore the gaming side of it, at some point.
The 15 bucks one, well, now i don't see any need to spend this much.
Thanks a lot!!!!
