I said reset but meant fix. If you add an app to system/app and the permissions are wrong you can fix permissions. You will be fine. You don't notice anything wrong with your phone, do you?

Fix permission is a great tool it help you get rid of force closes so you'll be fine.

I promise you. What you did was fine. No harm was done to your phone as the guys above said. You don't have to restore or change anything back. If you want to read a little bit about it, check out this page on the CyanogenMod Wiki.
If you don't know what a feature does, simply type something like "Android fixing permissions" or "Flash ROM Evo 3D" into Google or into the search here on XDA-Developers. The search tool will save you a lot of frustration when you aren't sure what to do.
Best of luck to you.

Probably gonna have to run the command to fix contact pictures in messaging app now.

Sorry about that KB112. The way you wrote that just sounded like you were joking. The good ol' English language reads so much different than when it's spoken.
I knew about that problem in ClockworkMod Recovery. I thought that TWRP had fixed that problem in their recovery.
Thanks.

Ok this trolling in this thread is just sad and plain annoying. I'm going to set this straight right now. Fixing permissions WILL NOT have any adverse effects on your ROM, but can actually help your ROM if you run into Force Closes and whatnot. Fixing permissions does exactly what its name says it does, it fixes the permissions of your the apps and other files.
Evod3 you need to run this in your Terminal Emulator to revert what KB112 did:
Type this and press enter:
Code:
su
When a # appears type this and then press enter:
Code:
chmod 760 /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/files/*

thanks you !!!! sorry about that im new trying to learn ya kno.. my bad!!! thanks again bro!!!

Dastin1015. My apologizes. I literally Googled:
Code:

And came up with several pages of "Do this to fix those permissions" threads, looked, and assumed that I had made a mistake.
I also want to apologize to you evod3 for this. If I personally misled you, I want to say that I am sorry. I feel pretty bad (and slightly embarrassed) right now.

You know that screencapture file is not use for taking screen shots.. I don't think it is, because you look at the permissions for the file its don't seem that it's used for that at all.

I recommend this more than the custom apk. This method is built-in and in case for some reason you want the sound back, the option is just a checkmark away.

Yes, but doing the build.prop mod allows the toggle to be done from within the camera app which makes it much easier to toggle, as opposed to having to switch to another app.
No need to install anything. The easiest solution is usually always the best.

I just use Root Explorer and go to System/Media/UI then rename the Camera_Click.ogg to Camera_Clik.ogg just changing a single letter works and you can always restore it if wanted.

Can't sideload apps

Interesting.
What apps are you trying to install?
Perhaps they're corrupted?
Try an adb push.
adb push appname.apk /data/app/
You may have to reboot but that might do the trick.
You can also try an apk installer (or manager).
These apps aren't (gasp) protected are they?

I have this problem with Amazon apps. I haven't tried anything else from the Market.
Restarting my phone fixes this problem for me but after a day or two it does it again.
I am running completely out of the box stock.
So yeah you're not the only one having this problem.
Possible Solution
Found the solution to my problem. Apparently when it's enabled, the Screen Filter app was preventing the side loading of applications. When I disable Screen Filter, I can side load my apps and the Amazon App Store installs applications normally. I no longer have to reboot. Hope this helps.

That would explain why restarting the phone solved the problem, temporarily.
Until of course we all enabled "Screen Filter" again and then it would stop working.
Testing that now.
I have a similar problem when running Lux Auto Brightness.
Disable Lux, sideload the app, re-enable Lux.

This is actually because of the application "Screen filter"
It's actually a security measure build into Android. It's so an application cannot 'trick' you into installing malicious software. (ie. let's say screen filter was hacked to swap the cancel/install buttons.. to make "cancel" appear as "install" etc)
Basically any app that overlays the entire screen disables the install button from working, for added security.
Thread moved to Q&A.

I just started having this problem tonight.
I often sideload apps and never have a problem..
But tonight I just tried, and suddenly I can no longer click the "Install" button after scrolling through permissions.
I can click cancel fine to go back..
but Install button just won't click.
(and I have no "screen filter" app anywhere.)

[Q] GPS continuously repeats same directions

I am currently running MeanROM ICS 2.4. When I use GPS, the voice navigation continuously repeats "In a quarter mile" over again for every direction. I've tried to clear cache and dalvik, and I've also tried doing ##gpsclrx#.
When I do ##gpsclrx#, I enter in the MSL, and when I press OK, a message pops up that says "commit failed."
I've searched the forum, and the only thing that I've found was to do ##gpsclrx#, which hasn't been working. Has anyone experienced this, or know how to resolve it?
Thanks
Did you try clearing the app data? I don't know much about the ## command you tried but if navigation is stuck on 1 step in the directions, it sounds like it could be the app. If it can accurately locate you, it probably isn't the Gps antenna or settings.

Modify build.prop?

So, I am unlocked, rooted, and have the unsecure kernel installed. I'm having trouble modifying my build.prop though. I've tried pushing a modified build.prop through ADB while in recovery, but the changes don't take. Any suggestions?
Never mind. Solved my own problem. Not sure which did the trick, but I mounted System in TWRP, pushed my file, and then did a CHMOD 755 from TWRP on the file... That worked. Yay!

Yes something with the phone won't allow to write to the system even with root. So mounting system in twrp is the only way until s-off.
Try deleting the current build.prop then push the new one. I've heard that works.

Did your LCD Density modifications work? If so, is this to make the resolution smaller on the screen? I hate how big the font and everything is even when the font is set to 'Small'
I'm also interested to hear if you were successfully able to modify the build.prop and change the density. I love this screen but it almost looks like an HDTV with a PC plugged in running at 648x480 resolution!

Yes, it worked. The precise steps are as follows:
Copy your build.prop to a location where you can edit it and locate the ro.sf.lcd_density entry. The default value is 480. I have mine set to 370. The lower the number, the smaller your text. Save this file to your computer.
Boot into Recovery.
Within Recovery, mount the System partition. In TWRP, this is under the "Mount" button.
Use ADB to push the modified file into the system partition. You don't need to delete the existing build.prop first. From you command prompt on your computer, this would be "adb push 'file path/name of modified file' /system/build.prop".
I don't know if this step is required, but I used TWRP's file manager to browse to the system\build.prop file, and then ran CHMOD 755 on it.
Reboot into Android, and the new changes should have taken effect.

No, and that's where I'm impressed with the latest Sense. It handles the adjustment much better than prior versions. It maintains its scaling in a lot of places despite my DPI changes - which preserves the integrity of its layout at the expense of taking advantage of the new DPI. And I'm okay with that, because it means I can keep the components I like without any "weird visual issues" and still use other apps that scale appropriately.
Had to bring it back up. I have changed my density, and I love it. but I noticed that not everything is scaled down. Is this the case for those of you that have successfully done this as well?
I have noticed that the htc messaging app, keyboard and the pulldown notification menu is not resize.
Also apps like the flashlight app in the CODIS rom is skewed as well as other apps.
Is this a problem that can be corrected or just have to deal with it?
