I have a SE X10 that my wife uses as a small tablet. Now she wants to put a sim card in it for just data. I want to remove the sim lock so that I can use it on another provider but I'm a DIY guy and would rather use ADB or some software to accomplish this rather then spend $20 to get an unlock code.
Is there any software or combination of steps that I can use to remove the network lock?
To clarify am I looking for a sim unlock or does that refer to unlocking the sim pin?

Yes there is. There are two possibilities:
1. lock it with a new code.
2. lock it with the original code.
For both you need to get an AT command prompt. You can get this by using the 'Wireless Modem' feature and connecting to it with a terminal program. In the terminal program you give the following command:
AT%HTCLOCK=1,12345678,1
This will lock your phone with the given code. Here the lock code is 12345678.
To get the original lock code you need to use the 'old' method of unlocking with the bootloader mode. As this will give you the actual lock code. If you use the 'new' method, the lock is overwritten without knowing what it was.
Hello, I am trying to relock my XDA2 after someone tried to lock it. I had it stolen then returned to me in fair but working condition, no SIM, and someone must have tried to unlock it.
The problem is, NO SIM works in my XDA2 for dialling, so I am clutching at straws here. Is there any way of dialling up in Hyperterminal and Wireless Modem with out needing the actually dial?
Some problems...
VODAPHONE Pay and Go SIM
----------------------------------
Can perform network operations
Cannot dail other phones
O2 UK CONTRACT SIM (My main service provider)
--------------------------
Reads "No Service" and can do nothing
VIRGIN/T-MOBILE UK SIM
------------------------------
Same as O2
If relocking is not the way, could someone point me in the right directing here. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
I am hoping you guys can help!
Cheers

If you reported it stolen you will find that when you dial you will not get ringing tone and the phone will drop connection almost immediately. The reason for this is the service provider has added the imei to the stolen/lost list which all providers access, it will be blocked from all networks in UK. The phone will still work outside of UK though. If you havent reported it then I have no idea what the problem might be.
Thanks for your reply, everything is unblocked, IMEI and SIM, but it's strange how different sims work differently, like on vodafone I get signal and can perforom *#1345# for balance and things like that. Cannont make voice calls though. O2 SIM comes up 'No Service' and I cann't do a thing!. O2 are convinced the handset is faulty. But many thanks for your reply, I'll find out how to sort this..

Hi
I just bought a Cingular 3125 on Ebay, and according to the seller the phone was SIM Locked.
So I assumed it was Sim Locked and meanwhile I receive the phone I started looking around for different ways to Unlock it, so when I finally received my phone, I inserted my SIM Card and worked fine! so my questions are:
After all of the events, can I say that my phone is SIM Unlocked?
Is it possible that my local Carrier (Telefonica) has the same configuration as Cingular so the SIM Unlock Code was not required?
Thanks for your help and your expertise.
Best Regards
If your SIM worked I'd say it was SIM UNlocked AFAIK no SIM from another carrier will work if it's SIM locked. A simple way to check would be to try another SIM!
If I understand correctly, there are actually different levels of sim locked. Hey may have just been locked out of his own sim which can happen if you try the wrong code a few times. That way another sim might be able to work on that phone. I am not sure since the wireless carriers that I worked for never used Sim cards.
UPDATE
I just checked with my wife who works for ATT and she stated that it is possible for people to lock themselves out of thier SIM cards and not the phone. Should the person lock themselves out of the phone and SIM then they are kind of SOL unless they have great friends like the people at XDA or can get the manufacture to give them the lock code.
Hi,
I powered up my unlocked Streak bought directly from Dell and it's asking for a SIM card. Do I need to root it, to use it without a SIM?
your going to need to use a sim card because i have a unlocked dell streak that wa slocked to att but since i got the guy i bought it from to call att and get an unlock code everything worked just fine with a sim card but your going to neeb to use a sim card or else you will only be able to make emergency calls only and also i am roted
I guess it's different in android land than iOS.
On my jailbroken iphone, I can use it as web device without a sim card.
Was hoping to setup the streak with all my contacts and calendars and apps before putting in my sim card to minimize down time.
I use mine without a SIM all the time. When I need access away from home I tether it to my Nexus One. I use it as a tablet and I have my N1 for calls and text. I also have Liveview on my wrist.
Hi. Did you buy yours unlocked from Dell? Did you have to root it? Looking for some guidance to get pass the emergency sim card message.
lol. i think this was user error. for whatever reason I didn't try to unlock the device. i'm used to the iPhone that if you get that message unlocking it just gives you the dialer for 911. I finally decided to just put the SIM in.
Hi, I have been given the unlock code to remove the Vodafone network lock if i want to use it on another network, I'd like to use the code to unlock it but i don't have a non Vodafone sim, is there a way around having a different sim like bu using a *#000# code to bring up the code prompt?
I want to unlock now so i don't have to keep the code on me in case i want to use a friends sim.
Thanks for your time

Well, if the phone its locked to AT&T then you call AT&T. There is no way to unlock now though from what I understand unless of course AT&T can for you. This its why you should NEVER just guess at the unlock coffee and instead call the company you bought the phone from or get an unlock code online for less then $20 usually.
To check root install an app that needs root (root explorer works, as does any other asp that says needs root)
