[Q] webtop alternative for cm users? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I ever want to use CM 7 or CM 9 when it comes out the official one through the atrix dev team I will miss web top is there any alternatives to motorola web top other then flashing a blur based rom?

Unfortunately Webtop is a Motorola-specific feature. Because Cyanogen is focused on a broad range of devices, it is doubtful that one would ever be released for it officially. Because of groups like the Atrix dev team, there are at least people trying to find a solution, but it's going to be quite a feat to do so. I may be wrong, but I have never seen a solution on any of the various development boards (here or elsewhere) that would bridge that gap.

Hi!
Take a look at Ubuntu install guide apk in market (no links, sorry). There also a thread at themes&app section. Good way to have ubuntu in Atrix. Unfortunatly since cm7 only have hdmi out in portrait, it doesnt work well that way. The dev of this app is really helpful, so think about buying the apk if you like it ;-)

[Q] New to Android Developement

hello im new android developement i needed help with mods because it seems mods are not strict like the ones for ios i worked for iphone dev but then i quit and moved to android and right now i can tell you android is so simple when it comes to modyfying and adding roms there is only one rom i ran on the ihone which is the android and i found it interesting it was slow because i heard 1.6 is really slow which remember when 1.1.1 came out for iphone it was just sloooooooow but i find it easier to use and right now im using a samsung vibrant i had a nexus s but i sold it nice phone by the way very sleek and fast but i loved it and can anyone tell me how to add those signatures or summarys like users do when they post a thread
If I understand the question go to "User CP" there you can add you pix or signature
As far as dev and modd'ing the Android the basic difference is our source code is open (for the most part) and that allows people to pick up where the original developers left off. This in turn, has created this big wonderful community of people, offering their custom apps, roms, etc....... Love android, Iphone is a closed system designed to keep people in the dark. Apple is Good at selling you something that does less and convincing you it is worth more.
The latest Android version is at 2.3 and with the Vibrant we are at 2.21
thanks oka1 and yeah you right ive been working with iphone dev since january 2010 and they are very strict with things like the apk files for android you can install easily but the ios you need to jailbreak it add youre source downlod the package and then open it search for the app then click the link and you download it install it and then you play it really complicated

[Q] What works in Lapdock for CM?

Hi there. Well I'm a little confuse, because I read in somewhere that CMods doesn't have support for Webtop OS, but it have Lapdock support, so my question here is, what does the phone when you put it in the Lapdock? I mean, what works? It's just Android working on a 11" HD screen? (sweet) or it's the Webtop by default without any mods?
I have a strong feeling it is the first choice since the Lap dock software was made by Motorola is not open source. I am not entirely sure though.
You should also check out the full Linux via web top mod, it might need to be a blur based ROM though for it to work
You have mirrored android (the screen you see on the phone) with the ability to use the keyboard and the trackpad for mouse.
The problem is that the mirror mode has the same resolution as the phone so the things are quite pixelated.
Overall the lapdock experience is much better on the CM9 ROMs mostly due to the different approach to UI and better mouse control.
Good luck

Just to confirm Webtop is actually a closed-source project based on open-source project so they released the open-source part but the closed-source part is still missing, that's why Android ROM Devs have many trouble with this because Motorola doesn't provide any support... And I personally find it stupid because it could sell the last Lapdocks on the market...

That's interesting. I would say why not just build a custom webtop but now that I think about it, it will be pretty hard. Maybe the reason Motorola won't provide any support is to try and keep more people on their ROM, or at least a blur based ROM? Still pretty stupid; like you said, it will help them sell more lapdocks.

Well, that would be possible to make a webtop-like program that would detect the Webtop (HDMI + Keyboard + Trackpad) and switch on Ubuntu automatically. But now the problem is the development which needs talented Linux/Android developers and this is not so easy to find, especially talented Android devs who would take a whole month to make us happy. The easiest way is still installing a Blur ROM or just use VNC. I will receive my Webtop in 2-3 days, I don't even know which way to use it...

Looking to buy a nook tablet.

Hi everyone! For those that do not know I have been spearheading the cyanogenMod nook color project. I am looking for information on the custom firmware being developed here, whether we are developing Android 4.1 builds and whatnot.
I would like to know if there is any github repos on the nook tablet being maintained, and how kernel development is going. Would also like to know if anyone has the TI OMAP 4 drivers, sound codec drivers for this device. Would like to start rallying up support on this device as I have found out B&N is getting ready to release an updated nook tablet for B&N. Would like to see some development go towards the cyano boot loader and moved out of alpha development.
I think this project would be a great project to get up and going developing kernels for, if its not being done already, and I will try to use my influence on getting a proper nook tablet forum started down in cyanogenMod and start putting some time in Q&A and helping first time modders in there. I think having a proper forum down there would really help kick start this project.
I am really interested in development for the nook tablet because of the fact it uses the OMAP 4 dual layer processor with an included microSD card slot. Looking to pick me up one real soon if I can get a forum down in cyanogenMod started, and I am really persistent and think I can do so with the administrators. Persistence pays off.
Its also about self fulfilling prophecies. If you know you can do so and put it in writing, it most likely will happen for you. Just takes time and persistence.
Thank you and lets get this thread started! Feel free to PM me also.
Posted some threads and personal emails down in the cyanogenMod forums. Make sure to follow up guys. I know the older and serious developers would rather develop and not post chit chat comments in the forums but you do need to promote you work some.
Also leave some comments in the nook color forums complaining about no nook tablet support at cyanogenmod.
/thread.
I would love to see some extended development for CM10, even getting CM9 more stable would be a blessing. Most of the CM9 ROMs out there are Kindle ports rather than ones compiled specifically for the Nook.
That said, I'm pretty happy with what we do have for CM10. I'm using it and it works great, but development isn't progressing as fast here as it has been for other devices.
I'm not sure how to answer your questions about the processor and kernel, as I'm not a developer myself (yet), and I don't know if there are any github repos set up yet.
Hey sounds like your really wanting to do this and I'm super happy to see you help out I've always wanted honeycomb lol. Just a suggestion I have 3 roms for the nook tablet if you want to look at my work well not mine I port but i maintain over 13 roms. Its hard if you need anything just shoot me a pm and if you wanna Gtalk that's cool too. I suggest you get the 16gb if you do get the nook tablet only because of the nook tablet 8gb doesn't have some compatible roms. I will be building from source soon

I have a 16GB NookTablet I don't use very often, I would be willing to sell. I've got the original cable, charger, and box. $100 (shipping included; US only).
Nook Tablet CM10
--Update--
SOLD.
It looks like the developer <Rebellos> has a link to his github repo work in this thread here guys. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480586&page=78
Yes, I would love to see this device take off with android builds. I will keep working on the cyanogenMod team and send them email once a week, will try to tweet cyanogen himself on twitter too. Do not want to spam too hard, lol or they might withhold development out of spite.
With that new B&N nook tablet coming out with them promoting that new touch screen that they are coming out with this 7 inch tablet might be the next big thing for those wanting maximum storage on a tab.
Going to start taking a look on some repos here in the next few weeks for this device.

Jetstream - Ubuntu

I've looked around and did a bit of digging regarding placing Ubuntu on our Jetstreams. I have a working version on my device, but this version is more a background application then a full replacement for Android.
I'm wondering what we can do to start working to get a replacement OS since HTC simply won't support us any longer.
Thoughts?

Also: If this needs to goto the General Section, then Mod's please move. Thanks!
this really caught my eye as well, but i'm guessing it won't include the pen support, so it kinda sucks for me.
the official versions for the nexus family should be released 2day. i'm guessing it would spread and get ported to more devices..when it would happen it will be easier to determine the easiest way to get it to the jetstream.

i heard that in a few days porting instructions will come up
this is how it looks for those of you that haven't heard of it

[Q] How to port Ubuntu Touch to android devices?

I was thinking in try to port Ubuntu Touch to my Android Device (Razr D3).
I've saw Ubuntu running on some devices, but only devices that developers give attention (Nexus series per example). I've saw once Ubuntu Touch running in a Xperia Mini Pro, but did not understand how that guy ported the SO to the Xperia series.
Well, my doubt is: Where do I start this job? Where do I get the files to try something? How do I create compatibility for my device?
I really don't understand anything about this, I want to learn. And, if success, try to port Ubuntu to all Razr series.

(apologies for crap urls, still a new member here........)
Best place atm is wiki dot ubuntu.com/Touch/PortingFlippedInProgress but it's still kind of a mess given the ubuntu team hasn't given it many updates recently to reflect the flipped images. Unless you're well experienced in messing android with both android and ubuntu I'd give a miss until someone rewrites it.
I've been trying to get my tf201 working for months now to no avail but good luck to you!
p.s. the irc log from a porting day has good info as well irclogs dot ubuntu.com/2013/08/01/%23ubuntu-touch.html

Thanks, but, the links do not work. Can you post a functional link?
Also, I have been searching for something in official Ubuntu page, but a didn't find anything! Dude, is there another forum or ftp severs that stores at least generical images to download? The official comunity seems to do not give a minimal help or importance to work to do ports made by amateurs developers, I cannot understand how Ubuntu Phone be open source if any source is available.
