After dealing with far too many bugs, I recently switched from CM7 to SuperClean3. One CM feature I'm really missing however is the volume button music controls where you change tracks when the screen was off.
Any chance at all a general mod exists that I can load to get this specific functionality or is is something that's only enabled through custom roms?
Thanks!
I suspect that's a custom feature built into the CM Music app
You'll probably have to go to an app like PlayerPro to get that feature with a Stock based ROM.
It's not just tied to the stock music app, it works with all music apps on CM7. There'a a MIUI mod that adds this feature as well. I've seen the long-press volume to skip tracks added into stock roms too, although they were for the incredible. I'd think the functionality could be added into superclean with a similar method though, have you asked the developer about it?

I saw that MIUI mod as well which gave me wishful thinking something like that could be created for a stock ROM. I didnt think to ask the SC dev as he "milestone'd" it a few weeks ago, so just assumed he wouldn't. I suppose wouldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks for the responses.
No problem. I have seen that functionality built into other roms, (I'm thinking of the "Stock plus" rom for the incredible by jermaine151) so it definitely can be done. No idea how easy to implement it would be though, or if the dev would be willing to invest time into it.
I think there's an APP in the market called "next song" that will do this for most music players.

If I recall correctly, the stock Vibrant firmware had simple music controls on the lockscreen. I love eugene's ROMs (nothing against sombionix's ROMs, just haven't tried 'em yet), but the two I've tried (Vibrant 9 & FrankenTwiz) don't, afaik, have lockscreen controls. I'm a lab rat, and I'm playing music most of the day, so this is a feature I really miss. I've tried Lithium and cubed, but the lockscreen behavior was weird I thought for both of them. Is there any way to get the stock music player, or whatever files were in the stock Vibrant f/w that allowed you to skip songs, etc on the lockscreen? Or, really, any way to get lockscreen music controls on the Vibrant w/o either using widgetlocker or reverting to stock f/w?

Hi,
My suggestion would be to use the one-click application here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784500
to revert your phone to the default samsung "glass/puzzle" lockscreen instead of the AOSP 2.1 lockscreen (so far nobody has figured out how to merge the samsung lockscreen music controls into the stock AOSP lockscreen.)
Then grab MusicPlayer.apk from one of the many stock backups floating round, and adb push ~path_to_file /system/app
reboot, clear cache if necessary, and you should be back to normal.
Cheers,
=)

Restored the old android.policy.jar and pulled the musicplayer.apk from the Vibrant 4 ROM, adb-ed that over, works great, thanks so much.
Hello.
Just ported myself from Desire HD running LeeDroid to SGS2, and I am happy, except one thing...
Why is the pull down menu not present in the SGS2 roms? It is pretty normal in Desire HD roms.
The menu consists of last used apps, and a quick shortcut to settings, wifi, data and more of the settings presently presented in SGS2 drop down... Thought it was a standard feature on Android Gingerbread...
Anyone found a way - har tried to search but have found no answer so far.
That was a feature of the ROM. I had a HD2 before the SGS2 and had no end of different ROMs, some of them being DHD ROMs, so I know what you're talking about. The most recently used apps can be accessed by holding the home button (great for switching between running apps), but quick settings are not there. It's a trade-off with the toggles that are there in the SGS2.
Other than trying different ROMs I can't suggest anything, as I've never seen a Market app that does anything to the notification/pull-down screen.
Hate to say it, but maybe you just need to get used to it being different?
Maybe you are right - or maybe the DEVS at SGS2 have not yet seen ported this part...I hope.
actually there is a toggle tool on market with more feature than standard on SGS2, but I can not remember its name, though I will search for it and post it here if any luck.
I would really like to have advanced pull down notification menu for my SGS2
Maybe this is something for you

There are quite apps in the market that allow you to quickly access different settings: screen settings, sound settings, data settings, etc. just by pulling down the notification bar
Yes I agree but nothing as smart as the ones I am talking about I guess, because I don't have running/ last used apps on SGS2. Instead I have a toggle. So I believe it is a step backwards compared to other devices in this specific matter.

Yeah, guess it's not the same as Desire HD. Maybe there's an app on market that does that too, but there are so many that it's like looking for a needle in the haystack. I tried about 10 apps until i decided to keep the one that i found most useful for me.
You are missing HTC Sence features... If you want your most recent apps, hold down the home button. If you want controls, use the market. Sence is great, I know, but basically the same stuff is here just packaged different. You just need to get used to it... I did.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
You can access recently used apps from holding the home button.
Thanks guys, already new about home button but glad you took your time.
I actually stripped sense from every custom ROM but that was the leftover.... Didn't know...
Well hope that someone makes an app to tweak that pull down as I find it pretty useless as it is right now with the sense version in mind.
But I just have to live with it. Everything else it a lot better on the SGS2 so I am still very happy... Rest in peace HTC.
For what it's worth I prefer being able to Toggle settings via the pull-down. I hated the Desire HD for putting apps there, I quite liked the Sense 3.0 ROMs that had the Recent Apps (even though I never used them) but also had a tab at the bottom of the pull-down for settings.
Hey all. I'm on Slim ICS build 4.0.0 and I'm very satisfied thus far. I only miss 1 minor feature from other, more bloated ROMs: long press the volume controls to skip forward or backwards in the track list of the currently playing music app. I have added in every other features I desire through a few mods and don't want to install a significantly heavier ROM for just this minor feature.
I have found a few links through Google but I can't be sure that they work on ICS, or that they specifically skip tracks in the currently playing music app and not the stock player (I prefer UberMusic; don't want the stock music player starting and both apps playing music simultaneously).

Can anyone post a flashable file that would fulfill my request? Or direct me in the right direction? I don't want anyone to Guinea pig the mods to which I linked. I have always had some ghosts after restoring Nandroid backups and my current setup is already perfectly suited to my needs. Thank you for helping, thinking, and/or bumping
Just got my SGSIII and looking for a few tweaks, the i9000 was my first android device and it had a few annoyances which is why the second time around i went hTC, but the SGSIII is a beast so came back around to Samsung, missed the AMOLED screen. So hoping these tweaks are possible.
1.) Unlock camera app bypassing security, this is a feature with 4.0+ but don't see why it was not added to the SGS?
2.) Music control on lockscreen, its silly they didn't add this. I know you can use the notification bar within the lockscreen if there is no security but I want the security. Yes I know I can get PowerAMP/PlayerPro and use the app lockscreen but want to avoid that?
3.) If 2 is not possible what about track control with the volume rocker like here for the stock SGS player? I would like to stay stock and not use AOSP or CyogenMOD just get.

Hi all-
I just recently dug my old Fascinate out and thought it would be great to listen to Spotify on my runs. I'd like to load a new ROM on it as its still on stock. Basically my primary desire is to milk as much battery life (while still being stable of course) as possible.
As a bonus, I'd like to have the ability to change track using the volume up/down like many newer ROMs allow and I'd be curious if there are ROMs or launchers that would make it a little more accommodating as a music player (e.g. larger icons?).
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I'd recommend GeeWiz Media. it's based off of Android 4.2.2, comes with google apps, uses stock Samsung RFS file system so you may get better performance and stability. oh and there's also no phone functions and no 3G data, so it's kinda like a tablet/iPod touch.
as far as changing the track with volume up and down, i know that CyanogenMod 10.1 has it. but that has the phone app and tries to connect to 3g, so that may be annoying. but i've had decent battery life on cm10.1 (all day, basically)
and if you want bigger icons from your launcher, go for Apex or Nova Launcher. the stock launchers (even cm10.1's Trebuchet) can change icon size. if you want giant icons, try BIG launcher in Google Play, there's a free version and a $10 version
That GeeWiz rom is exactly what I'm looking for! I also had no idea about changing the icon size with launchers. Perfect!
Thanks a ton for the suggestions!
