Yes its compatible, you just need to change camera module and files with the one from neo v

Only the camera's differ in both the sets,so with a different camera module the roms may work on neo v also..

cyanogen 9 as of now doesnt have support of camera for neo also..But you can try the official alpha release made by SE for your NEO v..

The title says it all.I'd be getting a Neo V soon.So will all the custom roms(CM7,etc.)working on the Neo also work on my Neo V considering that they are the same phones except for the camera?

IF have same hardware and same resolution works,
I flash with arc rom in my neo , the result :
BOOT, AND WORKS (sounds , no brick) , BUT NO SEE none because diferent resolution.

I'm pretty sure that a 2.3.4 neo rom, or custom rom will work on a neo V but the camera certainly won't work because of the 5Mpxl of the neo V sensor compared with the 8Mp of the neo. But the harware is the same.

(I'm gonna try to stay calm, but I can't promise anything)/
A few things:
1) MT15a is NOT "the first neo", it's the american version of Xperia Neo (vs. MT15i which is the european version), the only difference is in the radio chip, meaning you won't see a difference unless you're in a european country.
2) There's a huge, let me repeat that HUGE section of this subforum called "Xperia Neo Android Development", there you will find all the custom ROMs for Neo.
3) If you (clearly) don't know what you're doing, I'd suggest you stay away from custom ROMs until you read some more here on the forum, for christ's sake, read both the stickies and the FAQ's a million times until you've memorized them by heart.
4) Why the hell are you reviving a year old thread??
P.S.: I find it ironic that your reason for editing your post was "fail", considering the entire post and your lack of knowledge is an epic fail!!

Wried thing is that, after rooted, NEO L becomes much laggier. Anyway, i just wonder whether can get a custom ROM avaiable for NEO L now.

Xperia neo L is basically a Xperia play without the gamepad, I even have the same 4 keys, back, home, menu and search. So you cannot flash neo or neo V roms to it, yo will get a bootloop, while according to play forums the xperia play will boot with the neo L ICS rom just the gamepad not working.

I have flashed CM9 Kernel n firmware for Play.. only thing missing is that the screen is always inverted... any can help how to change it

Guys here I share CM9 For Neo L, form FXP source.. tweaked and the ROM is moded from Xperia Play.
Current issue Camera is inverted...

yea I did from Sony Stock liboemcam lib file.. also play camlib file... both failed...
should we unlock bootloader first before flashing your CM9 ROM??

i have done something foolish
i rooted my Neo l and forgot to unlock my bootloader.
to install a custom ROM, i wiped all data and dalvic cache WITH THE BOOTLOADEER LOCKED.
NOW ITS BRICKED, BUT IT DETECTS WHEN CONNECTED TO THE FLASHTOOL..
PLEASE HELP ME restore my device if its possible...
If not what hardware should i change???
Just flash back a stock Rom through flashtool!
It'll be as new as new! As you got it from Sony!

You are using wrong camera libs.
Hallon is neo
Haida is neo v
send from my mt11i with cm10 unofficially (TheDarkDefender build) on fusion kernel 4.5
I have also flashed this nightly (hands version) and it is working fine, even the camera
