Anyone else experiencing this?
On the stock ICS browser, I'll load up a page and while it loads, I cannot scroll until it is nearly done loading... this sometimes takes up a few seconds but it grinds the tablet itself to a halt until it's done.
It affects other apps such as Pulse as well. Did Google/Asus/Nvidia change the way that the browser loads? For example, one could move around freely in the browser and would get a checkerboard pattern and it loaded that section on the fly.
*Problem does not seem to affect Opera...but that has it's own set of issues...

I am having the same problem with my stock browser.
Yup. Only happens in stock ICS browser
I've noticed that it also happens in the ICS+ browser (not surprising) but doesn't seem to happen at all in Opera.
Also, if I set Pulse to use Opera as its rendering engine..it seems to work fine.
It's a VERY annoying issue though since I prefer the stock browser other than that issue. If I press anything while the stock browser is in that open state I get the message:
"Browser is not responding. Would you like to close it?"
With the options of "Wait" and "Ok"
I haven't tried Dolphin yet but since it basically seems to be a skin for the stock browser, I would imagine that it would happen there as well.
Hopefully Asus will see this and fix in an upcoming update.
**Also, I tested the Stock browser on the Galaxy Nexus and it did NOT have this issue. I worked wonderfully**

I have the same issue. I think it is in all stock Android browsers. My Viewsonic G-Tab running Vegan-tab Gingerbread edition did exactly the same thing. I think there is some javascript or flash that is trying to load in the background of the page and is timing out. Usually, if I hit Wait on the pop-up dialog, it instantly frees up. Annoying, but normal on flash-heavy pages. You kind of get used to it after a while.
Anyway, it isn't isolated to ICS, the Prime or Asus for that matter. Not sure why the Nexus would be different, except that maybe it is seen as a 'phone' and the Prime is seen as a 'tablet' or 'desktop' in the user agent string.

I never experienced it on the original Transformer running stock Honeycomb or my old Archos 70 running Froyo. While they did sometimes stutter through the pages, they never literally froze my tablet in place for 5 seconds while loading up a page. At worst I would get the checkerboard pattern as things loaded up or the browser would simply force close.
With 4 cores, I'm surprised that a browser could even have this type of effect. I did try enabling the force cpu usage in development options to see if anything made sense to me but unfortunately it made 0 sense to me. Hopefully someone a lot smarter than me can figure it out.
I am having the same exact issues. Any fixes?

yeah...switch to opera...
Definitely an ICS browser bug as I never experienced this with Honeycomb. Hopefully we'll see a new Asus update soon.
I have exactly he same issue... I hope there will be a update. Guess I'm going to use opera for now
Same thing here been using Opera it's hella annoying.
Same issue here. Hope they fix it soon. Also my keyboard stops responding in the browser a lot, particularly in google predictive searching.
The fix is coming. Asus knows about all the ICS problems and a fix is coming Mid to Late February.
The topics are stickied on the General area of the Prime.
This may resolve Random Freezing during Page Loads
Please see if this solves this issue for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22079591&postcount=1
I've noticed it happens when the browser tries to load something at the same time another app is loading something.
Has there been a permanent fix determined yet?
I get this a lot, and while the cache/data deletion trick works for a while, within about 2 or 3 hours of use, the problem comes back...

I just emailed the Dolphin HD devs and made them aware that this issue exists. I also let them know that Opera has fixed this issue, so it's not Honeycomb OS specific.. rather a coding issue on their part. I assume they modeled the base of Dolphin after the stock browser, hence why they show the same lag issue and also the same highlighting of the text field/box.. not sure if this blue highlighting is causing the lag, but Opera sure doesn't show this.
If everyone could just please take a min to send a note to the Dolphin devs letting them know also, I'm hoping we could get them to update this browser with the lag fix. I'd rather not use Opera, and I'm sure you prefer Dolphin more as well.
You could easily contact the devs in the Android Market.. within the Dolphin browser app page
Update:
Got a response from the devs. They're looking into this issue now. Hopefully you guys sent them a note also, so we could give this issue some priority
Definitely will do. I use dolphin as my default browser on my phone, but it needs some work on tablets.
I thought more people would actually put the effort to try and get a fix for this browser. I guess people aren't bothered enough by the lag. I hope I'm wrong and that more than two people actually wrote the devs.
Anyway, I've been communicating back and forth with the devs. I sent them here to check out the lag while typing in XDA after they requested sites for examples. They are looking into it, and hopes to have a fix soon. They have version 6 developing, and I saw a note for the beta testers, so hopefully it will come soon.
Thanks. I wrote too, and hopefully it'll be fixed soon. Now Google should also get their act together and fix this as well.
Sent them an email about this.
I've also noticed that when searching for images under google search, the page does not load properly; tiny thumbnails that can be zoomed in, but doesn't interactive properly. The stock browser does a good job at this.
Worse than the keyboard lag is the fact that half of the time when I long press a link and click "open in new tab" it doesn't open the tab. Never had that problem on my phone, just the tab. It got so bad that I went back to the stock browser, even though the keyboard lag is worse there.

it happens on the stock browser too. sometimes the new tab will not open. so dolphin is possibly a shell or uses some common api's that stock uses. unless we get the stock browser fixed i doubt dolphin will be able to fix anything w/o writing their own browser like opera did.

Dolphin Browser Question
Is there anyway to have Dolphin Browser keep the navigation/tab bar at the top to be able to scroll down with the webpage... Its annoying to have to go all the way up to the top of the page just to select another tab or address etc.....
i'd like that too. esp since i'd be able to see if a link opens in a new tab or not without having to hit "menu."
agred. Would love to keep tab bar on top. Without it turning "load new tab in background" on becomes a pain in the ass.
I'm assuming this thread originally started with dolphin hd? Have any of you tried dolphin for pad beta?
for a lagless typing in the Dolphin browser and in any other browser for that matter just use the android keyboard not the Samsung one,I am actually typing in Dolphin right now no lag at all.
Did you notice that ICS browser likes to freeze? It is the same story as it was on Honeycomb on TF101.
Generally I try to type an address thet hit enter. The browser just pretends to be loading a www but it seems to do nothing.
I have noticed that. I have been getting force close after force close with this. The weird thing is that this worked great for the first day and then the second day it just has been fc crazy on me.
I guess I am getting the same thing.....
BROWSER IS NOT RESPONDING.
Then it asks
WAIT or CANCEL
The first night after the update, the thing was awesome. Now it seems to stutter and NOT RESPOND every so often.
Also I have to wait for the whole page to load before I can scroll. And sometimes it will load 75% of the page and then take like a minute for the rest.
For example....xda prime - show us your homescreen- that webpage was kicking my primes ass...lol
Btw, wasn't there settings in debug that we can change or turn on. Type About:debug into address bar and then go to settings and click on debug. Then u can change some if the rendering options. Is this a good idea, and what settings should be changed.
Still love my prime, just some little glitches that can be annoying at times.

I have this same problem. Usually when the "Wait or Close" option comes up, the page is already loaded. Annoying but useful,
My browser also does the same thing, sometimes hanging and giving me the 'Not responding' dialogue just as it starts responding again. This happens on my prime under HC and is still exactly the same after updating to ICS. I never have to force close the browser due to it, but the freezing is slightly annoying.
None of this never happens in Opera Mobile. Another good alternative browser better than stock is ICS+ browser. the maker of thumb keyboard made it. He has a thread in themes and apps section. its a free app and getting real good reviews on it now. plus plays flash and everything with no problems.
But there is a problem with flash on opera?
When I have issues just force stop it clear cookies and history plus cache... Fresh start It is a pain but I LOVE ICS's BROWSER!

Dolphin HD locks up too
Any browsers that don't give problems? I saw one post for Opera that was good any others?
Maxathon Browser for Tablets is a pretty nice browser
I have the same problem but it did the same thing more with Honeycomb so ICS was an improvement. It runs faster and better, but there is still some stalls when loading sometimes. However, in Honeycomb this would give me Wait/Force Close messages all the time.
I have the same problem. Noticed it after the latest firmware fix (19th?). Don't recall seeing this happen before.
I don't think its the browser, I think its ICS. I've tried 5 different browsers and they have all had the same issues.
I think it is ICS too. Makes me wondering if Asus is testing anything they release pertaining to the prime? Or if they did, hope they are testing it out on random primes coming out of the assembly line for any abnormality before releasin it. Or maybe they are because we are the beta testers.
I have not experienced freezing, but i get random keyboard lag, where i type an url, and it takes 1 second to register the keyboard presses on the url bar then they print at one pop
I blame the delay on the stock browser's ability to process scripts.
This didn't start till the last update. It was working great before.
If there is one thing I hate about this is that there aren't any good browser on Android. Can't import bookmarks, can't handle flash well, no ad-block adons.
I just use remote desktop so I can use Firefox on Windows. Only real solution.
Hope they figure it out soon, as it is annoying to say the least. I believe it is worse after the latest firmware upgrade also...........
I've noticed the waits a ton since ICS. Never had a problem with Gingerbread. It's quite annoying and my wife thought the same.

Big peeve of mine, too... no ad-block addons. I thought dolphin had one, but I couldn't find it after I wiped my phone. Haven't looked for it since.
Remote desktop is a poor solution though. I can't find any decent VNC clients aside from AndroidVNC, but that doesn't let you pop up the keyboard on a tablet like you can on a phone.
I couldn't find a thread about this.
At times when I open a web page with lots of content (images) the page will be loaded just fine until it is almost done. Everything is fine and I can scroll the page. Then it will just freeze until I get the dialog "Browser not responding" asking if I want to close it. However, instantly when I choose "Wait" the browser becomes responsive again and finishes loading the page.
Lately this has been happening a lot more frequently. About every 5th time I load a big web site. Sometimes it happens even here, but it is quite rare.
I've tried this with other browsers and they behave almost exactly the same way, except they freeze for a shorter period of time and it never gets to the "App not responding" dialog. But they will still be frozen for multiple seconds during which I can't scroll the page.
During the freeze none of the Android buttons work but music playing in the background plays without any errors.
This has really started to irritate me so I wanted to know if others are experiencing this.
This far and away my biggest problem with the Prime. I really hope this gets fixed.
Same problem here.
I thought it was related to the common freeze/reboot issue addressed by the latest patches, but it is still occurring with patch .15 (just had one loading this thread).

If you prefer to use the stock browser, download ics browser + from market.
Same as stock but with more features. Works flawlessly on my prime.
My friend also have this problem. Also with the ics+ browser. It works flawlessly on chrome though, so maybe flash is the problem?

No, even if you block flash on the stock browser, this problem randomly happens ... it looks like a problem with Stock and ICS+ browser (well ICS+ uses pretty much the same code base I think), but doesn't happen in other browsers as far as I can tell.
So most probably it's a problem with the stock browser !
For me it happens even if I don't have Flash installed.
It happens with Dolphin browser as well. Haven't noticed it in Opera.
Chrome is a bit different. Occasionally when you scroll down while it is still loading you only see white until after some time it starts to fill the page again. I think it could be related because the duration is pretty much the same as with the freezing issue.
My biggest frustration also.. figured it was possibly related with all the reboot issues also but still happens regardless of what browser I try and I have tried all of them.. I hope this get fixed soon..
That was my biggest complaint about the Prime... Browsing was just not fun because of this. I switched to Dolphin and it's much better.

You are lucky.. Dolphin no better here and just switched to chrome to post this after Dolphin closed out afterward and happened on chrome.. Please Asus fix this.. main reason I have a tablet is to surf! It is very tiring
from my experience all the browsers (ICS, ICS+, Firefox, Dolphin, Boat, Opera) have flaws, even Chrome Beta which still doesn't recognize the Function keys on the Keyboard dock and somehow interprets a character return when you try to enter an uppercase "B" on the dock.
At this point, I rather Microsoft get involved and just put up an Internet Explorer for Android. All the other browser alternatives have flopped hard to deliver. It would be an ironic twist if a IE for Android just simply worked. (not to mention the Silverlight and Flash support )
yup
Ditto here. Biggest complaint about the prime for me, too... after WiFi and GPS.
I think I've had this happen to me on every browser I've tried. Dolphin, chrome, ics, boat...

My biggest annoyence by far, I've got this problem with all browsers on a regular base and it's a big problem that needs to be fixed quickly.
Same problem here even after latest update.
I also noticed this before. The strange thing is that with the same site, on different times, I sometimes do have this problem, and sometimes I don't.
I have same problem the browser freez and chrash and sometimes i get force close
Me too.
I have had the same problem on all the 4.0 builds. With stock, dolphin and chrome browser.

like some of the people here, my stock browser will hang up and be unresponsive on a regular basis. Sometimes a force close helps, but sometimes, when I look in the Asus Task Manager, or if I go to Settings> Apps > select "Running Apps", the browser doesn't show up, as if it's not even considered running. I usually have to select the app itself from settings > apps and then force close it.
Anyone else find it strange that the device doesn't even show the app as "running"? I don't know what to make of this, but perhaps someone else here does.
BTW, I did try Gary's Key's experimental fix, and got rid of Chrome and flash, rebooted, and then reinstalled Flash, but I'm still having the same problem.

Ya, uninstalling Chrome and Flash didn't work for me either. I want to say that the browser hanging issue has been a problem with mine ever since I got it, but I honestly can't remember for sure. Hopefully this is something that is fixed soon as the browser is probably the most used thing on a tablet, so it is quite an annoying thing to have to deal with.
As far as the browser not showing up in the Running Apps list, I know I have seen the same thing with other apps as well. I'm not sure off the top of my head which Apps they were but I know in the past I have tried to go to the Running Apps list to try and force close an app only to find that it wasn't listed. I had to switch to the All Apps view and found the app that I wanted to kill that way.

Have you tried tapping "Show Cached Processes" in the top-right corner? Android apps might appear to be "running" but are in fact suspended and cached ready to be instantly restored provided that the RAM being used to cache them isn't needed for other purposes.
I havent looked to see if the browser shows up in apps running.....
BUT BY GOD FIX THE BROWSER.....OH THE HUMANITY!!!
I may have 10 apps intalled, stupid ones. Even before I installed ANY apps I would get the "browser not responding...wait/cancel...."
It seems to have gotten worse with the latest updates. Now I get LOCKUPS like others are talking about. Resets havent helped.
Dont know, but this **** is getting old!
EDIT: Why the hell do I have to go thru all these apps, resets, clear caches etc.....the browser should, well just freaking work.
I've noticed more and more browser issues lately. Like playing a game on Facebook.... forget it. Then I get the dreaded wait box. Why can't Google make a browser that actually works?
Do you have plugins set to "always on" or "on demand" in the stock browser? I found that setting them to on demand stops all that. I think it's the flash plugin and the way sites are using it that's causing all the problems.

I realize the quasi-joking, but what a horrid comment.
I'm sorry, but I feel that Opera Mini generally does a better job than IE ever thought of: then there's Opera Mobile, it's the only one I'll consider for my phone. ICS Browser+ does a good job of showing you what the stock browser could be. MaxthonPad handles and looks pretty well, I don't personally use gestures and the new tab button is kind of in a bad place IMO.
Anyway, nothing I've tried has remedied the stock browser, and I hadn't noticed it missing in Running Apps, but it's not often that I look there or force close anything.
Both my ICS phone and my TFP as well as my friend complaining about it on his ICS phone are all unstable. Granted it has yet to really annoy me but I think its Android not the TPF. This is my opinion YMMV and it could be the ASUS fault in some way.

Like i said your mileage may vary. Three cases on my end is making me think its Android its self. You haven't seen the issue on your end so it points to the Prime. Different cases and different perspectives. Then again the Galaxy Nexus is also ICS Native so maybe that could be part of the problem I don't pretend to have that answer.

Don't blame Google. Blame Asus. I've had a GSM Galaxy Nexus since launch, and the browser works flawlessly - no hangs, no unresponsiveness. This is all Asus.
Speaking of stock browser problems, anyone else notice anything like this? Some kind of malicious exploit in a browser's cache or something-other, apparently even an unrooted user got the issue so I just find it really interesting since that rules out changes to the hosts file.

How exactly do you know if a site uses javascript? Does the site just not load or is it minor? What kind of stuff uses it?
Going to give this a shot on my prime. The hangups are pretty annoying but I have really gotten used to and like the ICS+ browser so don't want to change!
Ever since Honeycomb, the absolute biggest problem I've had with this tablet is the browser. It doesn't freaking stay open. No matter what browser I use, no matter if I'm running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean, the browser always crashes. And it's not a typical FC either; It just closes right back to Launcher.
I've been hearing that it's caused by some null pointer exception in JavaScript; But you mean to tell me between Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 - 4.0.4 and 4.1, 4.1.1, that this issue STILL isn't resolved? Not to mention, it only happens on tablets (Tegra 2 issue? Xoom has the same issue).
For me, it most notably happens when I'm browsing a Twitter page. In the past minute alone, I've had browser crash on my SIX times trying to load a page on Twitter. Let's make that 7 now.
So what the hell really causes this, and why won't it go away? My Sensation and myTouch 4G can browse just fine, and this temporary Galaxy S III works perfectly too, so what's with the tablet?
EDIT: Disabled JavaScript and set plugins to ondemand. Same damn result.
I've used the stock browser, Dolphin, Chrome, and Skyfire and none of them have ever crashed on me. Ever. Sounds like there is either something defective about your device perhaps your internet connection. A factory reset might help, as might going into applications, finding the Google framework and clearing data. Do the same for your browsers as well.
That's funny, I've noticed just the same thing. Browsers work terribly on this tablet.
With me, they only do crash sometimes – a lot more than on my HTC phone, though. But using browsers is a real pain, as they all feel kinda buggy, and I don't think it's their fault, since they all show the same "bugs". They're all kinda laggy. I've updated to ICS today and I was crying in emotion for being able to finally download Chrome, as it's the most stable one I've ever used in my phone, but I was disappointed when I noticed it too felt quite laggy. I'd rather go home and turn my Mac on than to struggle with web browsing on this tablet, honestly. I've tried many browsers –*stock, Dolphin, Boat, that other one with green icon, and also Skyfire or something.
If anyone has a better thing, or a solution, or anything, I bet there are many desperate people that would die to hear it.
(I know I sound more dramatic than I should, but let's face it, web browsing sucks in this device.)
I've never had any problem web browsing on my Tab. None. I'm not rooted, maybe that's why, or maybe it has to do with the sites you visit. Dunno.
On my tab with HC 3.2, the stock browser would also just disappear to the home screen, but not all that often.
I flashed to ICS, and the stock browser got a bit quirky. The address bar would no longer hide when I scrolled down
on a web page. Would stutter as if it was trying to hide but wouldn't.
Installed Dolphin and it worked fine.
I went back to HC 3.2 (had some other issues besides the browser) and so far the stock browser is working fine.

Dolphin does the same thing though, just a lot less frequently. Motorola Xoom users in a thread from a year ago reported this same problem (in a filled up 14 page thread), and several of users report the same exact issue. I'm gonna poll some more Tegra 2 sections and see if they suffer from the same thing but it looks like this is just another issue with this ****ty SoC, like the portrait mode lag.

Not to sound rude but your opinion isn't really credible to me, you're the same one who went crazy when I said this tablet sucked. You have bias written all over you.

Come on dude, I'd have to be rooted to be running Jellybean. And as everyone else has shown, it does seem to vary by website. Full pages on twitter ALWAYS crash, (they work once in a blue moon). Other times browser crashes when browser feels like it hasn't crashed in a while. I could get through a day perfectly, then bam, crash.
I'm not a dude.
I've never had a problem with any of the browsers I've tried, I think maybe you have a faulty tablet.
I to have the same problems. The browser would even close and reopen with no webpages there.

Yes Google.ca. The browser just shut down without a force close notice and opens blank. Plus it becomes non responsive, on pages that have a lot of javascript.

That specifically happens the second time. On the first crash, I'd relaunch and it would reload my pages, but 99/100 times it would crash seconds afterward. Upon opening it again, i get one tab with the Google homepage.

Sounds like JavaScript is the culprit, but it still crashed for me even after I disabled JavaScript
I think it's all about memory management, I cant tell about HC 'cause I barely used it, but JB is still very experimental.

I'm biased because I've never had any problems with my browser crashing? Whatever. I also never "went crazy" over anything. All you do is complain and complain. Why not just get an iPad and move on?
I have tried several browsers also, and for me I really only have problems with chrome freezing (not force closing). It seems to be random, but happens more frequently when opening new tabs. However, the stock browser on the same sites seems to work every time. My guess is that it may be due to timeouts on the network connection or possibly memory related. And, it seems to be random... I may go a day without a freeze, then have two back to back freezes. Oh tegra2, why don't you behave?
Hey guys,
It's been almost a week since I flashed the stock ICS and installed Chrome. So far so good, no complaints. I'm really relieved, as I was almost giving up. Give it a try

Chrome is the way to go. The ability to create an account and sync all relevant browser data to your devices via the cloud - why hasn't anyone thought of this before? So obvious and useful.
I also strongly recommend trying out Boat Browser, which is highly underrated. Smoother and smarter layout than Dolphin and the best alternative to Chrome, IMO.

Chrome acts really weird on JB. I'm still running pershoot's 8/4 build but I'll be updating and trying out Chrome again. Last time I tried it I would always get a white page while switching tabs, and scrolling was odd. Browser does a much better job but Chrome has too much nice functionality lol

I doubt it's memory relate, it happens a lot with 1 tab open, and with a full Gig of RAM, browsing should be painless when it comes to memory management, not to mention, but Android's memory management scheme is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Tabs and apps actually know how to stay open, and Android knows what to close. Works a lot better than any tablet I've used, even better than crapple's iPad.
