I am looking for an app that has the ability to disable/lock the touch screen while playing a video in Netflix/Rockplayer/Youtube without actually stopping or pausing the movie. Kind of a protection from my toddler so he would not mess it up while the movie is playing.
I would appreciate your input.
Thanks!
There's an app called "hidebar" in the market that will hide the system bar. At least kiddo can't accidentally go back to the system menu. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop him from being able to do stuff in the program (stop, rewind, fast forward, change video, etc.). I've been dying for a program like this also; it would be great to have something that could either disable the screen entirely or just the system bar, controlled by a long-press of the power button.
Thanks for your input. I have the software that hides system bar, but I wish there was something to disable or lck touch screen functionality. I saw there a few people interested in this feature and I am surprised no devs have implemented this yet. Will have to just hope and wait
i would liek this as well. toddler video player is good but dont support the right codecs for good playback dev is super helpful but jsut dont support enough for good use.

Id love to be able to control my android music player without having to switch out of the calendar or browser or whatever im working on. As of right now, to perform this multitasking, I hold the home button down for frequently-used applications, or pull down the notifications bars, and switch completely to the full music player before changing my song/volume and then returning back to what i was doing before. I suppose I could use a widget, but that would require going back to the homescreen.
Is there an implementation similar to the Apple iPhone that allows "pop-up" music controls in android? For those unfamiliar with iPhone OS, double tap the home button and a miniature control window pops up in front of what you are doing, letting you control very basic functions of the music player like volume and forward/reverse/play/pause. I'd love to have this functionality, as I am always listening to music when on my mobile.
Does this app exist? If not, this would be a great idea for the many devs who frequent this forum *wink-wink*
Not be rude, but if you added more into title then Does this app exist, more people would probly help you.
But your question, I wish they had something like that too i dont know of any.
I have always hoped that Android device would provide an extra button or extra gestures for which users would be able to assign arbitrary actions, actions menus or apps.
First let me define what I meant by hard to use, I use flash mainly to watch video online and our Vibrant with the GPU does a great job at it. It is the Flash interface that really annoys me: small buttons, small scroll bars, etc.
Website like Youtube and Vimeo is obviously optimized for finger use with one click on the video equals pause/play and a big enough scroll bar to skip ahead/backward. But for website like Veoh/zShare Video, it's literally Pinch-Zoom all the way to the point where it fills the screen, otherwise, the over-taxed CPU/GPU doesn't register the finger movement.
Are there short-cuts that I missed for easier manipulation of the controls?
May be like a small on screen mouse or something like that?
Hello all,
Now that I have netflix on my 10.1 I would like to start watching videos full screen which the tabs screen is the perfect size for. But when things are full screen the videos dont stretch to the full screen because of the bottom menu bar. Is there anyway to hide this bar while watching videos?
i second that!
There's nothing you can do. There's possibly something the developer of the software can do, but it hasn't been fully documented yet. This is at least the third thread on this subject -- use the search function next time.
I have been playing with some of the framework. It is possible to manipulate the resources so that the bar is removed. The issue is doing so programatically. We would have an event handler to remove the bar only when needed. And also, turn the bar back on when needed. I'll say its a PITA experimenting with the sysbar. That 'back' button is a necessity.

Look at any of the games published by Hexage (e.g., Everlands, Robotek). They dim the bottom bar just like the stock video player. It can be done.

DIM (video mode) and Remove are two different animals. The testing I was doing is to give me the ability to actually reclaim that screen real estate.

Sounds like a bad idea to me given the absence of hardware buttons, but since this is xda I nevertheless wish you luck in your experiments.
Seriously, its absurd that I have to watch videos with that stupid menu bar at the bottom. Even Amazon's stock gallery app does it! Yet somehow their own streaming video does not (and the streaming video appears to use the full screen resolution, not just dim the bar).
All you need to do is have it show up with all of the video controls when you tap the center of the screen - sorta like how amazon's own streaming video app works.
Download honeybar.
Well, apparently, it must somehow possible for the taskbar to be hidden completely on Honeycomb 3.2 because I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0, and when the Kindle app runs, the taskbar completely disappears. If one taps the screen anywhere in the Kindle app, the taskbar pops back up.
Presumably, any app or video player could be written or modified to allow this capability, I would think.
I don't even know what to say...
The Navigation Drawer has got to be one of the best UI designs in Android... and now the youtube app has removed it.
"Slide, Scroll, Tap" has now turned into
"Tap, Tap, Tap, Back, Tap, Tap Tap, Back, Tap" .....
Why... why on this good green earth would they ruin the application like this?
Is Google going to drop the Navigation Drawer? In all seriousness if this is true (And I didn't know about it) then I am just done with Android... I just cannot put up with another "Change for the sake of change" that ruins the innovation.
Anyone have more information on their official stance with the Navigation Drawer Ui element?
I am at a loss for words... this is as bad as removing the start button from Windows... just... why? Why would you remove the best UI navigation tool?
I cannot understand.
It is indeed a little perplexing why they changed that due to the nav drawer being such an integral part of almost every one of their other apps. We will have to wait and see how this plays out, and whether its a single app thing or not. That said, the new control over notifications from specific channels is much better.

Right but why not improve things and keep the Navigation Drawer? I keep reinstalling an old version because this "new UI" keeps auto updating even without updating the application.
Ugh. I am in a point where I am needing to get a different device to replace a failing one...and if Google is dropping their advanced layouts and UI navigation for "Apple simple" ones, then I am done with android. I just cannot handle any more stupidity.
Hi
I've been considering the LG V10 and wanted to hear from the XDA community on how useful the 2nd screen actually was. Is the second screen more than a novelty? What do you use yours for? What apps can utilize the 2nd screen? How often do you use the 2nd. screen and how does it effect battery life?Screen caps would be welcome.
It's a useful novelty, I wish they would have bumped up the front facing cameras and gave us the option to have a 5.9 inch screen. Useful for checking time w/out unlocking phone as we as being able to change songs w/out unlocking especially useful while driving
I really enjoy the lack of notification cards on the main screen. The past few phones I've had (Note 5, Nexus 6, S6 Edge) have all had the Lollipop style cards that block way too much of the screen. With this phone, the notifications just go to the secondary screen so you can keep focus on what you're doing but still be able to see it. Also, the music controls have been amazing so far and it makes it so much easier as you don't have to pull the shade or switch apps to change tracks or pause (Noticing a trend here lol?). And finally, I use it for having favorite contacts set up (similar to the only good concept of the edge IMO). Hope this helps, so far I love this phone!
I am loving the second screen and find it very useful.
For shortcuts I have tapatalk, chrome, maps, camera and settings.
I love that it also has the 5 most recent apps. I came from a note 2 and waiting for long press for the recent apps was a pain! Of course this phone has a button for that anyway but I still like having them just sitting up there.
I am also using the contact shortcuts to try to replace my direct dial and text shortcuts I had on my home screens. I'm still trying to get used to that.
I definitely like that the date and time is always showing so I can check without waking the phone.
I also recently discovered that if I swipe over to the left when the main screen is sleeping there are shortcuts for the camera, flashlight, Wi-Fi toggle and sound /vibrate toggle.
I love it.
So far I think I'm using the app shortcuts the most.

BTW guys, not exactly related to the secondary-screen alone but how is the "alt-tab" performance; toggling between recent apps?
Say you cycle between the 5 recent apps; do they pop-up just immediately without any delay and at the exact point where you have left the app? (i.e. a web page doesn't reload, Twitter doesn't refresh like you are opening the app for the first time).
So far I really like the second screen. I keep having an issue where my Hangouts keep showing up as the big banner across the screen (sms seems to show on the secondary though). I also with when the screen was off it would show the whole notification, not just the icon. It would also be nice to choose how long the notification stayed on the second screen. I feel like it pops up and goes away so fast.
I wish the quick contacts could be set as direct dial. I will never use on of those icons to text. I need quick to just dial the primary contacts I have.
Two words: Spotify controls.
Spotify's lock widget was awful, and it always frustrated me that I had to unlock the phone to restart a song. Now I don't even have to turn the lock screen on to do it. This alone made love the second screen.
I thought it might be gimmicky, but I like using it to switch between apps and the music control is nice.

Generally yes, the ram management is very good
I find it useful. Even if u don't plan in using it shouldn't be a bother.
App switching is better, faster since you don't have to flip through cards. I always preferred the old school Android where it just showed the app icons of previous apps
Google Now cards flash with basketball game scores without interrupting whatever I'm doing.
Same with calls. They show up on the second screen.
