MIUI or ICS - HTC EVO 3D

Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out if I should switch to MIUI or Joel's ICS rom. I'm currently on WarmTwoPointThree and I love it don't get me wrong, but I'm just getting kinda tired of sense. I tried out MIUI a few months ago and liked it a lot, but switched back to sense because of a new sense ROM that got released. What do you guys recommend, ICS or MIUI?

I wana try warm.... Do I.need to format my sd partition to ext2.or without doing it else be fine
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App

you should be fine without doing that

ics, might as well try something brand new and and different.but some things are not working, could be a deal breaker for ya

I came from an Epic 4g several months back. When I left it didn't have MIUI or CM support. I tried a different ROM every week or so until I found one that was stable enough for my needs. When I switched to the Evo 3D I messed around with a couple of ROMs and went with Warm ROM for awhile before it was in RL status and loved it. Then MIUI development ramped up and I decided to give it a try. I have been loving it for almost 2 months now. I don't have any need for 3d and 4g in my area isn't an option anyway but everything else works perfect. I have flashed a couple of the ICS builds so far and they are pretty stable and it is very fun to mess around with them. I'm excited for ICS but the battery isn't there just yet for me. I love MIUI and the seemingly unlimited customization that it has. Plus it is the most friendly forum you will find on here or anywhere on XDA. Just my two cents.

im going to say MIUI for now.
I am currently running ICS and i love it, but its about 80% functional and battery life def leaves something to be desired now MIUI on the other hand has my heart

ICS is my middle of the night mess around and have fun......Miui is my daily for sure, probably for a long time to come.

thanks everyone...keep the responses comin! ^_^

I figure this is a good thread to hangout in since I'm in a similar bind. I'm using MIUI. I get terrific battery life, no random reboots, and most importantly everything works. I've been in the android scene for a long time and I'm kinda tired of using my phone for a test toy.
Then ICS hits the scene and with the latest release of Joelz rom with another possible release tonight, I'm so tempted to flash. I just don't think its worth going through the trouble if I'm already OK with what I have.

You should go with MIUI for now. I been running JoelZ ICS Rom for about a week now and the only thing I can "complain" about is battery life and camera (or lack of camera). I think they are both kernal related so you should just go with MIUI until they are fixed. The wakelock issue gets me below 20% after only 45 minutes of on screen time, but I carry my charger with me everywhere so its not a problem for me.

[Q] Synergy vs. viperROM

I realize there is already a thread about this same thing but..
I'm wondering as Synergy seems to be faster while viperROM has things like Viper control script..
I don't worry about battery life so that is not an issue, tell me your experiences with each rom, which would you recommend?
this will not end well these type of threads never do on xda ...
i use synergy myself i like the constant updates and svn where i can download a build i want and not have to wait for a official release and i enjoy helping to test in some degree

I liked it before the troll era where people didn't do everything they could to argue with you..
Thanks for some feedback.
They seem about equal but Synergy has much more active (or at least seems like it) devs on their team as they've already pushed through 2.3.4 and are actively working out the bugs and adding the features that were ironed out in 2.3.3.
Viper seemed to have very good battery life and that was about all i was able to see with it; i'm able to get over 24hrs battery life with synergy though after these latest builds.
If you're not worried about the extras that you can do with viperROM like their additional mods and such i would definitely say Synergy is the choice.
I don't know man. I flashed synergy last night and a bunch of things were outdated on it. For example market, google maps, youtube, etc. google talk would crash on launch. my favorite thing about the rom was the dope boot splash screen
Posted from my Evo3D on the XDA app
I was a big fan of Synergy Nightly for the 4G and i love it for the 3D, i used both roms and both are great in my opinion. I think its more of a matter of choice then anything.
i love viper rom but u know that already but the lack of updates is making me want to switch to synergy because they seem to be on top of things.and yes i know viper has a life and its nothing against him i just like to be up to date all the time.
I'm leaning more toward Synergy now.
I flashed Synergy about three weeks ago but flashed away to Viper after I found Syn to be less stable than I was willing to accept for a daily driver. Viper has been more stable for me than stock ever was, rooted or otherwise.
For the time being, Viper has had my vote because of the OCDaemon script included. I went from charging my battery twice a day to going two days between charges. Now that Synergy has the script, I will probably give it a try again in a couple days.
Yea vipers is really rock stable so I don't mind neither is it unexpected to me that the process is a little time consuming. If I'm going to have a shiny new toy, I can't have it be crashing and freezing up on me when I'm trying to show it off to friends

Which is better in terms of performance and speed?

2 days on a stock battery?
I have used both pretty extensively and I must say that right now I prefer viper. For me, it has been more stable and battery life is better, I do not have a single complaint about the ROM and I don't mind the slow updates because the ROM works so well. I need a ROM that performs better than stock but is just as stable because I don't have time to flash a new ROM everyday nor do I want to deal with unexpected bugs.
Same experience, Viper was more stable and gave me a bump in apps, tweaks and performance over stock. Synergy is young yet and I don't have the time right now to follow forums and offer feedback to the dev community. Keeping an eye on it though.
I liked both myself. The Synergy seemed to be faster but less battery life and the Viper gave me more battery life at reasonable speeds faster then stock.
Pros of the Synergy is all the added features and bells and wistles like more cool ringtones and other small to big stuff. Viper could easily add some of that to the current. With Synergy I also liked icons and layout. BUT THE ABSOLUTE biggest thing is.... I had tons of issues, force close on this and that.. I couldnt even get the Weather via sense to work it was always crashing so was some of the live wallpapers and they removed some features I wanted and got rid of alot of the ones I didnt. Honestly if you took the best of both and made one it would be off the hook.
BUT the winner for now is Viper as its rock solid and stable. Its fast enough and has great battery life.
For me the question is what Kernel worked the best with what rom on your phone???
Have either of these ROMs incorporated the 2.08.651.2 OTA update features?

Great feedback on the roms guys. My 3D is in mission critical mode due to work going balls to the wall and I can't chance any issues popping up, but have always wanted to hear honest feedback on these two roms. Really appreciate the non fanboy real talk
Hopefully when work slows down I can try both of them out.
Tried both, keep going back to Viper. Just seems to be more stable. Lack of updates is OK with me because it is working great as is.
Viper ROM fast stable but on 2.3.3 where synergy is on 2.3.4 and right now source code not released yet so he really can't unlock the code for better speed. I used both and synergy is constantly updating his ROM on a daily basis if your into beta builds... Hope this helps

[T959D] Telus Fascinate - what ROM are you using?

What ROMs are you guys currently using on the T959D?
Just went back to stock 2.3.3. I was on AOSP 4.0.3 but after jumping off of RC1, I was never able to get it working just right again. Thinking about just going and getting a Galaxy Nexus from Bell, if they'll sell it to me.
I flashed ICS 4.0.3 RC2.11 tonight... all is good so far.. but for the last few months I've been on stable CM7.1.. to nightly 181...it was awsome with the latest glitch kernel.
Battery life on CM7.1 blew stock outta the water once I had everyone configured right. I would easly get 2 days with fair usage and I get bad reception in college building.
This ICS has quite the contender to stand up too... especially since CM7.1 is only a reboot away.
If glitch kernel didn't exist for ICS, I wouldn't be using it.

The biggest thing was glitch kernel, and undervolting a little. I use autostarts to make set permissions on apps and make sure they only run when I want em too run.
That's pretty much it, besides all the basics, auto brigthness.. etc..
Currently On DarkyRom Resurection 10.2 but many random reboot;I want to test ICS
You may want to look at Darky's 10.4 which was released today I think.

Pretty quiet round here these days. Long weekend, anyone got any big, flashing plans? I've been on WeUI for the last week or so and have nothing but huge praise for it. After initially flashing it I ended up back on ICSSGS for a day then immediately back to WeUI.
If'n you got some time and you're looking for something new, give it a shot. On the other hand, if anyone's got something that one of us hasn't tried yet...(Buck?) how's about letting everyone know what you have going on!
Hope you guys have an excellent long, peaceful weekend! =)
LOL thanks Finn. Did you get over the issues you had with WEUI?
I'm still on sgsics as its very stable. New version coming soonish for that.

Seems like the only issue I had with it was a laggy launcher (Apex) which turns out to be the fault of the launcher itself. I had intitially attributed it to the rom since that was the first time I'd noticed the problem. Same issue with Apex in ISCSGS and I've since noticed in the Apex thread alot of other folks have the same issue across the board.
I'm also keeping an eye out for the new version of ISCSGS as well, I'm sure I'll check it out but I'm hooked for the moment.
Totally kewl. If I had any issues with ICSSGS I would jump but just no desire (eq time) at the moment.

Rezound coming tmrw, where to start?

Rezound is coming in tomorrow w/ extended battery and it's very exciting.
I'm not new to roms/mods (my DX has seen it's fair share) But I am new to the whole "unlocked boot loader" goodness =p.
I'm assuming unlocking boot loader, rooting, de-bloating would be my first steps...but after? I truly dislike sense, it looks very tacky IMO.
What would you guys recommend for someone who is coming to this phone for this first time and dislikes sense? I see so many roms in the dev section I'm kind of overwhelmed...
Look in the dev section sticky for the list of roms. Then read on each thread to find out about the quirks with each sensless rom. There arent to many senseless roms.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
After you unlock and root, you will want to install Amon RA recovery. Then pick a rom. You probably need to decide if you want GB or ICS, Sense or no Sense. Try them all and see what you like. ICS is pretty stable right now, with the biggest issue being Bluetooth streaming. Be sure to read, read, read before anything! I will say this though... the Rezound is pretty damn hard to brick. I don't know if anyone has actually bricked their phone yet.
Well I've been running ICS on my DX for 3 months and it would be a damn shame to have to go back to GB at this point honestly. Sense looks tacky with its cheap bevel filters "/...especially when compared to stock ICS. So a ICS/De-Sensed ROM would be ideal. Bluetooth streaming? Never used it so If that is the only issue with a particular rom I'm ok with that =)

Hmm yeah that would suck. I just got mine today
unlock/rooted w/Aman Ra recovery.
I'm trying to figure out how to debloat right now...so next step is I can install a kernel correct?
What would be a good one to try for a first timer?
I'd keep the kernel for more experienced stuff.
I use ROM toolbox to freeze my bloatware. But then again if you install a custom rom, more than likely the dev has already debloated most of it. If there is something more that you want, you can always freeze it agian.

I like to use rom toolbox to debloat because it also has other nice features built in and I came from a dx so I've had it for a while. You can install a rom and or kernel now just read carefully for compatibility and such. I had to pop out my SD to delete a ph98img last night because of a main version error. I was scared
Thanks fellas, yeah I had to delete that file after installing AR recovery.
Would either of you happen to share what your fav rom is?
Depends on what you are going for. As I stated in another thread, I've had battery life issues with the ICS roms so I'd recommend the gb versions of cleanrom or rezrom. Both are super smooth. I like the theme of rez but the battery seems better on clean. Best thing to do is try though. Ive been going almost a rom a day haha
Scrossler and Joelz are starting to put in the LeeDroid tweaks, and those are awesome. I'm running Joelz senseless rom now, but Scott's Roms are awesome, and he made a lot of what we had in the "early" days possible.

Suggestions?

Ok I'm a big HTC Evo fan and well sadly my evo's charger port messed up on me and no longer works...so I decided to upgrade to 3do I was just wondering if anyone had some rom/ kernel combo suggestions? Or recent rooting guides thanks in advance
I am one of many
I would go with meanrom as rom wise.
as in rooting it all depends on what h-boot your on if its h-boot 1.50 then you need to do the HTC method on their website
You have to try Warm or Eternity. Sense 3.0 for a solid theme, or Sense 3.5 for smoothness.

I've tried several different combos.. I started using Warm Two Point Three back in november. For some reason my dialer was locking up so I switched to MIUI. When I was on MIUI 2.2.17 w/duces super zip I was getting excellent battery. At which point I swore I would never go back to sense.
Then... all the ICS builds came out. I flashed around a few and then decided to give mikuney a chance. All I have to say is WOW. I really enjoy it. Anyway, good luck.

Its called MikRunny. I just upgraded not too long ago too and I'm still getting around to the million roms our phone has, but as of right now im rolling with Eternity with the stock theme. Ive tried Toast's, Joelz, and Kushdecks ICS's, Joelz ICS AOKP, Joelz ICS MIUI, Eternity, and ViperRom. The ICS roms are my favorite hands down, even ICS MIUI, but theyre still being worked on so I'm holding off for a bit til they get a little more stable. Im still getting around to others. I want to try the other MIUI, CM7, and the Sense 4.0 ROM being worked on. Im holding off on that til it gets a little more stable too though. We have so many great devs/ROMS its pretty difficult to get around to all of them. I kinda need to use it as a phone too lol. Try em all, theyre all great.
I would use Meanrom if you want everything worming and good battery life.
MIUI is ok... If you like a iphonish setup.... But bluetooth audio doesn't work with MIUI as well as 4g or 3D camera.

New to the Evo LTE Community

I finally retired my Evo OG and loved it so much I had to go with it's successor. My Evo's LCD screen went out literally when I got home from the sprint store (talk about great timing). First of all RIP Evo OG. You are still the best phone I have ever owned. I'm gonna miss you.
Anyway, I am wondering what's the first things I should do with my new Evo LTE? Should I root right away? Any good rom suggestions? Kernels? My old phone was rooted since about the time I first bought it. I was running Deck's rom for about the last 8 months. Thanks for any advice.

Sell it due to radio issues...
Or second.. Make sure you update to the latest baseband, pri, and all the pieces that go with it. Do not make the mistake of just updating the modem. Especially with all the issues the modem has now. Hopefully they will come out with some sort of fix but many of us are doubtful. Then from there test different roms to see what works for you.

I may be of the minority, but I have had VERY FEW issues with my phone. It has worked well from the beginning and all but one issue has been resolved (contacts lagging, but not as bad for me as some report). I am not rooted and don't ever plan to be. I use Nova Launcher Prime, which took care for Sense reloads, and Chomp for texting as it syncs Facebook avitars for free. I absolutely love this phone. Good luck to you with yours!

If you're familiar with android at all you'll immediately see how broke the multitasking is. But AOSP ROMs fix that. I've read zeppelinroxs mod fixes it for sense. I'm starting its the s4 processor, cuz all I use is AOSP, and when I relaunch root explorer from recent button, root explorer always start from base level, not last open level.

I was actually having all sorts of trouble with data speeds for the past few days so I was starting to worry that the radio was gonna be a problem, but turns out I was worrying for nothing because sprint was having an unusual outage in my area. He said it would be fixed on the 26th so hopefully everything will be running smooth by then. I went ahead and took the OTA I received, prior to knowing about the outage, hoping it would fix my radios.
Coming from my last phone where I had to squeeze every last drop of battery life out of it, I'm loving how much longer this one lasts. I rarely played games on my OG because my phone would die, now I can spend a bunch of time playing 9 innings baseball 2013 (GO A'S!).
Anyway when I do root, which will likely be soon, I will have to try Mean rom, Flex rom, and CM10. I have been partial to AOSP roms because I like to use go launcher ex anyway, but never really liked cyanogen mod due to too some problems that are probably fixed. My main thing is without question battery life followed by functionality (everything working or working better than in stock). I'm hoping to have the multitasking fixed for sure and I'm still curious as to if there is any truth to the camera app or camera itself functioning better in sense?
Sense uses image sense with is basically post (denoise, color correction) but the camera is still leaps and bounds ahead of aosp camera in terms of functionality. The libs are supposed to have been ported but the chromatic aberration is terrible in aosp
Fleck's stock with goodies is a good ROM. Basically stock with a few features like quick toggles added. True multitasking as well but I haven't used it awhile. Cm10 is always nice.
