Hi
Its been 2months i bought galaxy s2 and 1 thing i dint like is the battery life. Im getting only 5hours of battery life with internet on. Ive installed the battery life saver apk Juice Defender and still the battery life is very less. Please suggest me something.
Also i read a post in the same website saying that the android 2.3.3 has this OS problem. The form told me to shutdown the phone and remove the battery for 5mins Nd use again. But when i shutdown the phone the battery was 45% and when i switched on again, the battery indicator was 15%. Then after sometime, it increased to 27% without charging and then reduced normally. Please help me with this, what might be the reason for battery life being inconsistant and what can be the solution

you might have an application that keeps your phone awake. what i mean is by having your screen off there are applications in the background still running. So my best advice is Juice Defender does not do anything and infact it drains more battery than saving it.

probably yes... Bcos when in idle, sometimes the display suddenly turns on and again after sometime. Is it possible that the phone is infected with virus?

I believe you have rooted your phone, if not follow chainfire thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399) for rooting the phone. After rooting goto CWM recovery > Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats. This should give you a clean slate on the issue of battery inconsistency.
As for battery drain, remove all battery saving apps like JD, they infact consume more battery. Install Betterbatterystas apps from market ( paid app) or the free version available on XDA, and check for the partial wakelocks / kernal wakelocks to get to know what apps are killing your battery.
Link to the Betterbatterystats thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
hope this helps!

Which Rom you are using at this moment...
Yes Smasung Stock Roms do have this problem as reported by Some users.
If you want give it a go ... Try Battery Mods for S2 ... They do help In this Inconsistency.
Depending on your Current Version You can find Battery Mod which will help you.
E.g for XWKL1 Check out this thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188132

Hi all,
Why does my battery drains faster? I checked the battery used and "Cell Standby is 70%" could this be the reason of it?
Currently using Custom Rom OptimusXrom v1.1..
Help please..
Download Spare Parts and monitor with that.
Hi badeaioan, I'll check it later.. Thanks!
still my battery drains faster, cell radio is almost 70%.. can somebody help me here?
Install Watchdog. That monitors your app's CPU usage and warns you if it goes above it's threshold.
Also, you can try wiping your battery stats.
already wiped the battery stats... nothings happens.. still the Cell Standby is 70%.. how about yours?
20%.
Do you have SetCPU installed? Try setting a profile that lowers your maximum frequency down to 245MHz when the screen is off.
EDIT: Also, you have to note that the battery info in the about menu is not live information. It updates slowly (once in a while).
yes i have installed SetCPU. I'll try to make a profile, and monitor it.. I'll post an update tom. Thanks.. I'm planning to try UbuntuDroid if this wont work.. I already tried, amber home, prime and currently using optimus x.
Cell standby is also at 75% for me and the battery has juice for 2 days. So don't worry about it.
All the p500 phones show that cell standby is the biggest conssumer (i know 4 guys with same phone). For example on a Galaxy S the screen eats all the battery.
I figured it out!
The battery usage info menu does will not show you whether your battery is draining faster or not.
Here's how it works:
Suppose I have 5 apps: a, b, c, d, and e. Let's say cell standy is app letter a. Overall, battery usage is 100%, right? Assuming everything consumes power at the same rate, app a gets 20%.
If you have cell standby consuming 70% power, everything else consumes 30% power.
Confirm this by visiting your battery info menu. Also, you only have a problem when what's consuming more is an unnecesary app. As for cell standby, I wouldn't worry about it.
Do you have a screenshot of yours?
No I don't have any screen shots, so you mean it's ok that my cell standby is 70% sometimes more... ? My officemate's Samsung galaxy s cell standby is something like 3% - 10%.. that's why I'm thinking that cell standby is the reason why my battery drains faster?
What apps do you have there by the way? I'm guessing there are a few, or many but using only about 1-3%
If you ask me, no. Out of the 100% battery use, cell standby is using 70% of that. 30% goes to everything else.
How you use that 100%, though, is a different story.
hmm.. I see... well I guess I'll try different rom... what rom are you using? I noticed, before I go to sleep, for example I check the battery 90-95% when I woke up and check it again, the battery goes down to 50%... I wonder why... standby.. and drains that fast?

Light. Wow, that's a huge difference Try another ROM. See if that solves the problem.
Yep, that's what I'm planning to do.. I hope it'll solve my problem.. hehehe I'm just waiting for my phone to finish charging.. I'll post an update tomorrow.. Thanks again kpbotbot.. how the rom you're using? how's the battery life?
Feels like the stock ROM (which is why I like it). The only difference is that stuff under the hood are tweaked, optimized, and the like. Plus the useless apps are removed. Battery life is... adequate I can go about a day and get about 60%. I don't know how long 100% will last since I always recharge.
PS - In case you're wondering why I reply so fast, it's because I have nothing to do at home since I was advised to rest for at least a month after release from the hospital xD
Try battery saving apps like juice defender.
Im using juice defender with ultimate juice and use its mobile data toggle widget to switch off my internet when I dnt use it..
hmmm..actually I was.. hahahaha.. now I know why you reply so fast.. Thanks dude.. get well soon..
40% it's a normal value?
I don't know why your battery drains so fast (50% over night is tooo much) but right now for example in "battery use" menu I have:
13h 50m since unplugged
Cell standby 78%
Android system 13%
Display 5%
Voice calls 4%
Android OS 2%
I think this is normal.
I have the stock 4.5.9 gingerbread update on my AT&T ATRIX. However I am observing a terrible battery life. There are too many solutions in the forum to follow. Can someone direct me to the appropriate one? I am rooted and unlocked. I used the unlocked 4.5.9 sbf for upgrading from from Froyo to gingerbread 2.3.4

there;s a lot of solutions because poor battery life can be cause by many things, you have to find out what is draining your battery. try calibrating first let it drain until your phone turns off and then if you have cwm install then wipe batterystats and then a full uninterrupted charge
Try setting profiles in SetCPU and freezing apps with TitaniumBackup. Theres a topic for each of these two solutions.
battery stats 6h 3m 29s on battery (now left with 10% of battery)
Display 49%
Phone Idle 22%
Cell standby 6%
Android system 5%
Launcherpro 3%
xda 3%
Android OS 3%
this is just terrible .. i never had such battery life with Froyo. i dont understand what might be the problem. Meanwhile i will try to calibrate my battery.

Calibrate your battery.
Then freeze your bloat.
Problem solved.
dont forget you might also being playing with your phone a lot more trying to see all the new stuff in the update. Thus causing more battery drain.

There are some strange things happening with the battery. I let my battery discharge completely to the point where phone shuts down. Then I plugged in to charger, waited for 2-3 minutes so that I can start the phone. Started the phone and saw 50% battery. Don't know what's going on.
I was told by an admin from another site that most of the battery programs do not work with ova ginbread. You go to settings/about/status and observe the battery. I do no I was also getting flaky results with 2 of the battery programs.

That's a GB bug... there's a battery fix in the development section to flash which deals with the reboot battery jumping. (turn off phone at 50%, turn on phone and it says 70%)
I am having problems with my Atrix too. With my usage, I used to be able to get almost 3 days of battery life. Now it hardly lasts a day. I have checked pretty much all settings (sync, sleep) and all seems fine as far as I'm concerned. So I am having hard time trying to find what is causing this. The only suspect I have right now is wifi. I don't think wifi is sleeping even though I've selected "When screen turns off" in the sleep policy.
Hi All,
i am using a non rooted SGS2 in india. its running on the latest android firmware 2.3.6 (waiting for ICS.. )
the problem i am facing is that from past few days i see my battery drains very very quickly.. even if there is nothing running in background. i am using juice defender ultimate.. i guess its not helping either..
also it takes like forever to charge up.. i mean i plug my phone for charging at 17% after 2 hours it just reached to 21%..
at times while charging it through the USB.. it seems to be discharging.. it was at 37% after some time its reduced to 29%..
Also my phone heats up a lot for unnecessary reasons..
has any one faced this issue? please help...

first of all what programs run in background of your device?
second, what battery you use ? (1650 mAh 2000 mAh)
have you looked at your battery if the battery is working 100% or if the battery is damaged?
what rom is running on your device, which kernel do you use?
Could happen from rom. Here in germany the official 2.3.6 update was cancelled because of problems containing battery drain und reboots. Perhaps same stock rom problems in development.

i think your battery is gone. Maybe try charging it with the phone off or something. and if it it goes to 100% u can try download the battery calibration app on market to calibrate it properly. I would try everything i can before sending it back to samsung.
sounds like hardware problem mate, the phone should warm up when plugged but it shouldn't be above 35°C or so, and the slow charge problem could be related
if you can get another battery to test it out, or just buy a new one
good luck
You could try to reset your battery stats before going out buying a new battery.
thanks guys for your suggestions..
i uninstalled some of the crappy apps that i never used.. & voila my phone is back to normal .. less heat up.. battery lasts for 1 day.. hope it stays that way..
waiting for ICS..
@jeroensk - how can reset my battery stats..?
Clear battery stats boot to cwm recovery >> advanced wipe battery stats
But you will need a cwm and rooted phone ..
As battery stats do not need wiping dont worry about it battery automatically calibrates itself .
Some muppets think wiping battery stats actual does something . |It does not play any part in charging the battery or battery life on SGS2 .

Hi, today i experienced something strange with my s3. I was outside, battery was 16%, i heard the alert for 15%, i took phone to check and was 15% left. After 20 mins, my phone vibrated in pocket like does when you switch off. I checked and was switched off, when i came back i put on charger and turn on and under battery stats is really something drained it, but i'm not sure exactly what or whats the problem. How can i check exactly what app drained the battery like this? I attach a screenshot.
And another thing.... after phone turns off and you turn on, doesn't the battery stats reset ?
As per previous posts use Better Battery Stats .
after phone turns off and you turn on, doesn't the battery stats reset
No it does not .

No, is the i9300 version. I have 2 of them, never had any problem with any of them..
Just today happened this strange drain, now i charged it completely and i uninstalled some apps that i think might drained my battery like this. So far everything is back to normal.
use better battery stats... instead of uninstalling every app you should look for what is causing the drain in bbs and unistall it

I also have this type of problem when my phone completely runs out of battery and when plug it in charger it bump to 48%.
I dont the reason behind it that why it happen and whats the reason behind it.
If you have recently rooted your phone and have flashed custom rom in your phone than you may face problem of mis-calibration of battery. For solving this download a software called battery calibration apk ( google it ) . Your phone must be rooted if you wana use that app. but before you calibrate your battery make sure you charge your phone to 100%.
when you 100% open that app and grant the super user permission. Click on calibrate.
what the app does is that it will remove batterystat file from our phone and automatically it generate a new batterystat file in your phon. Thus any faulty or mis-calibrated file will be removed and you will get good battery life.
after calibrating do some cycle charge mean from 100% to 0% and from 0% to 100% without interuption. Do it for 3-4 times and you will see a drastic change in your battery life.
Calibration of batteries is a myth, battery stats is cleared every time you unplug a nearly fully charged device. Also draining modern batteries to dead is not good for them at all so I'd discourage it unless necessary.
