[Q] reroot - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I rooted my phone with z4root. I needed to install a hebrew font on my device (done with gscript).
After that I un-rooted my phone.
Now I want to re-root the device again, but it freezes, and it seems that the su binary is missing.
I'v installed superuser, and I've tried to update the su binary, but it failed.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Try rooting your device using a different method (if possible).

I'm not sure what you mean. What other way is there to root?

[Q] unrooted phone - still have superuser

I unrooted my phone, but it did not remove superuser. I have tried everything to remove superuser, but nothing has worked. I have tried re-rooting my phone, but it says it can't because superuser is already installed. I have also tried unrooting, but obviously can't because i'm not rooted. Does anyone have any advice? I am pretty new to the android platform.

Depending how do you unroot, if you flash stock ROM (e.g. RUU), the Supervisor should not be there, if you simply remove "su", the chance is the custom recovery is there, you can either re-flash supervisor.zip (and unroot by deleting Supervisor.apk and su) or customize recovery script to remove Supervisor.apk from /system/app (contact me via PM if you want one).

it could be wrong. try to update the superuser and su binary. also try some apps that need root access.
see if the apps is working fine or not. For example this app -> [APP] Root Browser - Get full version for free!
if you can move something from usb storage to /system (mount system r/w first), if yes then you are properly rooted
If that doesn't work, try getting some help here -> [GNex TOOLKIT V7.0] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, CWM, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE [GSM]
they know more then me (since I don't have the device)

i've tried and it won't work does this mean that my device isn't rooted its just when i turn my galaxy nexus on theres a unlocked padlock that wasn't there before i rooted i thought this meant that it was rooted thanks for your help though!
That means the bootloader is unlocked, that doesn't mean you're rooted only that you are able to install your own recovery. Download a terminal emulator app and type su. you will have a prompt show up asking whether to grant SuperUser permissions or not if your phone is rooted.

Lost root after XXBLFB update

I had rooted my phone with CF-Root, but today I was prompted to install a system update and so I did without thinking it would do any harm (silly mistake I know) and now I don't have root anymore! I tried re-flashing with Odin but I still don't have root, does anyone know what to do?
Thanks

You still see the SU app, if so unroot in the SU app and then select the reroot option.

[SOLVED] Root Checker shows root, but apps don't gain root access. why?

Hi, i am a complete noob.
I recently rooted my phone without flashing a new kernel using the cwm recovery mod busybox installer on this site. However, since then i have updated my firmware over kies but not a full update, just a small one. Now although root checker says i have root, my root apps can't gain root access. Would really appreciate any help oli could get on this matter.
Running XWLPI on my phone. Any more info needed i can provide but dont know what is required.
Yarun
EDIT: The link in the first reply worked, I used the unroot all file to clear everything and then the signed superuser only file to root. worked like a charm

Superuser installed but I have no root access?

Let me start off by saying I'm a total noob. I have rooted my device before, but that was so long ago I forgot everything. Anyway I don't remember how my tablet got this way because I haven't used it in a while, but I have superuser installed yet I have no root access. I opened up the Voodoo Rootkeeper and it says super user app is installed, device is rooted, but root permission hasn't been granted.
So I tried to root again on top of it hoping it would work but now I just have another superuser app. Somebody please help me get root access.

Thats what I used this last time when I tried to root it. It installed the second superuser app and when I opened it, it said that I needed to update binary or something like that. But I still had no root access after using motochopper.

I had the same issue after the last OTA. Root was lost and OTA rootkeeper didn't work.
This worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038464
After successfully unlocking and installing TWRP and root, I went on to install this (but you can stop here if you don't want a different ROM): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674827
I'm delighted by this ROM. Much better than stock.

I did a lot of searching, and tried several methods, but I couldn't find a solution which worked. Is your Prime still under warranty? If not, there's no reason not to unlock.

No its not. I just have no reason to unlock. I dont care about custom ROMs and I would like to be able to return it to stock if I want to later.
