Firmware 9.xxx - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi,
why is there a firmware 9.xxx in the global ASUS forum, while in the German there is only the latest 8.xxx?
I am in Denmark, but my Prome is bought in Germany and I see that there is obly a 8.XXX DE, while the 9.xxx is listed as TW, US or WW
What does all this mean?
Regards

Thanks, but what does ww, tw, us mean (US is probably USA..)
Should we try a manual update with the 9.xxx WW for a German tablet?

I believe it hasn't been released anywhere else yet. I wouldn't personally but you can give it a shot if you want. That might just be me saying that just because I'm on ICS already lol

TW is Taiwan, US is USA, WW is World Wide (for Primes without a specific country firmware)
As your Prime was delivered as DE unit, you're also only able to flash with DE firmware (until the bootloader has been unlocked, I guess). So no ICS DE firmware on the ASUS website for now to download.

Have 9.4.2.7 here in the Netherlands (ICS 4.03, WW version)... it was an official update I think on the 6th of January..

ICS DE version
For some unknown reason the DE ICS version is the only one not released, according to rumors it will first be released at the end of January. So in the mean time you will be a member of the "push check update" club where you have to check at least 30 times a day.
Forgot to mention that the latest version for DE is Version V8.8.3.33(DE) and even that one doesn't come through when checking for update, that version has some speed enhancements but most of all it forces your wifi to on to get the GPS positions so you think that now it works.

Actually it is meant to help GPS find satellites. If the devices' position is somewhat known to the GPS module it is able to search for satellites known to be seen in that area.
The DE Update to 8.33 can be downloaded and applied manually by copying the zip within the Download-zip to your microSD card, root folder. The Update should be recocnized without any reboot.
Since it makes the device much snappier and smoother to use I reccommend that update.

People are complaining that without the WIFI on the GPS did not work, and people started turning it off to check and complaints started rolling in. Then ASUS updates the firmware so that you no longer can do that, I would not call that to "fix" or help more to mask the problem. In normal circumstances assistance with GPS position to get quicker fix makes sense, though more for a device that has wifi/3G on the road because if my wifi is off it is probably because there is none . Actually took the Prime on a road trip with Sygic and even though it worked fine, I could not see anything because the display works like a mirror when you have it under your windshield.

I did install the DE firmware manually.
My complaint is that I bought the tablet from Amazon DE, but I did not care to have a DE model.
I am a bit tired that companies with fws that are specific for Countiries is the same region.
I understand Regional changes, US, AUS, China, but withing Europe is totally idiot.
They force people to jailbrake/route their device, to get the best update and make devices better performing.
I contacted ASUS ín Denmark and they did not know a S***, I have to tell them, about the thread by Gary Key and so on.
They promised to call back today. I am not optimist though, I just wanted ICS because I am Skype NDA and I thought I could test ICS with Skype.

I found this on DE support side.

It is what it says already: Source Code
If you're able to, you can compile a firmware out of the Source Code

yeah michi_1983... you are the one, who creates a firmware out of a KERNEL-Source-Code .
The Source-Code of the whole firmware would be 10-times bigger.

Firmware 9.4.2.14 in Canada?

I have been waiting for the 2012/2/17 .14 firmware to arrive GTA Canada. Has anyone in Canada got their .14 OTA yet?
I am now in .11 after the last Asus OTA upgrade. However, interestingly, I just realized that mine has a IML74K.WW_epad-9.4.2.11-20120117 Build. No wonder it did not get the .13 upgrade. I bought mine at NCIX, should it be a US instead of a WW model? I am thinking to change it to the US Build using the dd method mentioned in this forum. Has anyone tried this?
Any more advice?
If you search thru the post made my Gary Key (Asus Tech manager), .14 should be released by Tuesday to WW after it passes Google Certification. WW users will not get the .13 and go straight from .11 to .14.
So wait till tuesday or do it yourself now. Your call.
How do you do it by your self...
there is no Firmware posted for WW of the .14 version on the ASUS website
I'm in no rush for this, everything is working perfect on my device.

I've heard it forces you to update after three notifications. I did the OTA from honeycomb to ICS (.11) and everything is awesome, so I'm hesitant to update given the trouble people seem to have had.

Mine is working fine except for GPS. I'll wait until tuesday. I really wanted the GPS feature
I guess I will wait and see then...my .11 has minimal issue other then constant wait freeze issue on my ICS+ browser.

To answer you specifically, yes, you could and would be fine.
I have not changed my SKU, but I've reverted to nearly every US update and have seen no ill effects, upgrading with it should be no different. You still get OTA's after, and if you go back you can freeze your DMClient (if you're rooted with Titanium Backup or something else that does similar) and not be bothered with further updates.
In my personal experience, update .11 is the holy grail of performance and battery-life, so I'd personally recommend staying there unless you're having issues.

Lol, just like on the computer!
I personally use Opera Mobile, just so I have the same interface from phone to tablet and it's always been a good browser on Android (personally didn't care for it back when I tried it and Maxthon on PC's).
Dolphin HD of course.
I have the same "wait" issue with stock browser, but it doesn't really bother me. Prolly just put ICS + or whatever it's called.

[Q] Reverting back to Uk ics

Im not a techie on phones or tablets so please bear with me on this,
I upgraded my UK tablet s by changing the region and using the US ics upgrade, But for some reason (which I havent delved into yet ) Cant seem to root it.
However now the UK ics with 3G is available I would like to flash that.
Do I need to change the region back to UK or can I flash over the US version, what happens if I change the region against the instructions.
Is it even possable?
As I remember I used Odin to flash.
I would like as much detail as you feel Im entital to, Im begining to not be able to see the wood for the trees.
Hi. Ics on the tablet s can not be rooted for the moment, so you are stuck on US ics for now.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Thanks for that.....
......Definative reply, im_iceman, Its not the US rom, I'de quite happily use that ad-infornitum, its the lack of 3g, i did'nt realize when i flashed it that the rom would not take advantage of my 3g sim card, I thought it was just the built in 3g that wasnt catered for, still there you go, my punishment for not researching properly anyway TY.
Yes, the US ICS ROM's are purely WiFi and do not feature support for any of the Tablet's external Internet functions. Without root, you won't be able to change region and therefore can't return to UK region until ICS is rooted.
Also, unfortunately, Odin is a Samsung-only tool and there is no equivalent for the Sony, especially since there have been no leaks (which is what gave us Odin), and the bootloader and system image are highly locked down. I'm not sure there is even a partition dump for the Tablet S...
Ah, must have used Odin for my Note, its no biggy really, i can wait meanwhile everything I did with the Tablet s I'm doing with the Note its got all the facilities just a tad smaller screen.
But thanks for that.
You'll just have to set up a WiFi hotspot on your note and hook up to that when you're out of WiFi range.

FIRMWARE Update Issue

I am on XXBLFB (BTU), I never got the OTA update cause it was giving me a message to try again later. Now it says no update available and KIES shows that LFB is the latest firmware :S. Did Samsung take down the latest firmware? And will they be making it live again? Also I wanted to know if there are any disadvantages of flashing through ODIN vs KIES/OTA.

The wait later was annoying me too, so I used CheckFUS+ODIN. But you're not missing much. I'm sure it fixes some bugs, but its headline "feature" is the removal of integrated search, due to the Apple victory in the US.
However, Samsung weren't legally obliged to remove that feature worldwide (and Apple would be unlikely to win a similar case in Europe). Based on the complaints about the legally-unnecessary nature of the "update", its possible Samsung have pulled it for the time being.
They have definitely pulled the update (have a look at CheckFUS) but the exact motive... can't say for sure yet. For all we know the removal of integrated search from a non-US firmware was a mistake.
Oh well. Wonder if they will be fixing the same bugs with a different firmware since quite a few people did not update their phones due to not getting the OTA as well the relatively short time frame when the update was live.
Exactly as I guessed , it was a mistake according to BBC, which was why they pulled LG6

Latest stock ICS for Tab 10.1 P7500XWLP9

Browsing the sammmoibile website I noticed my country (South Africa) finally gets the ics upgrade. Not sure if Samsung think we all live in the bush with diesel generators , with one wifi hotspot tower protected by African buffalo, but it took a bloody long time.
Anyways my patience ran out like 1 months ago which led me to xda and the sammobile site where I downloaded the ICS upgrade which has the bulid number labelled xwlp6
I rooted it and sorted out rolling recovery and the rolling blue screen when it goes on standby, let me know if you guys want to know how
Getting back to the point, I noticed that build number P7500XWLP9 is out for South Africa. I want to know has anyone flashed this ROM? How is it?
Is it worth downloading and going through the root process again? In South Africa we believe in energy conservation, since Samsung thinks we run on one generator, so if there is no big differences in battery life and bug fixes I'm not wasting my effort
Anyway thanks for the help!

All stock Samsung roms based on Android 4.0.4 suffer from battery drain unfortunately, so there is no difference from xwlp6 and this rom.

Get fingerprint working on US version?

Apologies in advance for noobish questions...
I bought an unlocked Z5C (US version) at Best Buy a few weeks ago, and have been happy with the phone, even though the fingerprint sensor has been disabled for the US.
I had been hoping for the possibility that when 6.0 was released for the phone, because of the new framework having more fingerprint-related libraries baked in, that the sensor would be enabled. No such luck.
So, my question is, how easy/difficult would it be to somehow enable the fingerprint sensor on the US version of the Z5 Compact?
I've never really gotten too deep into rooting, building, etc., but I am a software developer, so I'd be comfortable with development tools, build environments, modules, etc., but I just don't know where to start with something so specific, having never done it for this platform before.
I'd have to think that there would be some way to do a custom build, either importing fingerprint libraries into a US build, or importing US radio libraries into an international build that has the sensor enabled, or some combination like that?
I'm really just looking for someone to hopefully point me in a direction to try to do this. If there's already a solution, even better, but I'm not holding my breath for that one.
Thanks in advance for any info!

My understanding was that the hardware is still present in the US version, but it was disabled for legal reasons. Could be wrong though.

Quick update...
I finally got a chance to mess with this over the weekend. There is not yet a Custom UK E5823 release for MM, so I tried copying the files from another MM non-us release, and it didn't appear to work. However, I did go and revert back to Lollipop with the latest available UK release, and can at least confirm that the fingerprint hardware is indeed present, as the fingerprint manager then showed up, and the sensor worked. I went back to the latest E5803 Custom US Marshmallow, and will wait until MM is available for UK, and try to copy those files and rebuild again then.
Interesting... that is good to know. It seems that we could buy the US version to get the warranty, then just flash an international firmware to unlock all the functionality. And hopefully down the road, do the mash-up firmware for the best of both worlds!
I'm just surprised they disabled the sensor in the US, especially with the sensor still present in the phone!
Another update...
I tried copying the files from a few other MM builds and repackaging, but none allowed the fingerprint sensor to work on my phone.
However, since people in some other threads had been talking about the Nordic Combined version of firmware, I figured I'd give that a shot without any modifications. And... everything works!
So just to reiterate, I have a US version of the Z5 Compact (E5803, purchased at Best Buy), and updated with the Nordic Combined firmware (1298-7782, Customized NOBA, 32.1.A.1.163/R9C) with no modifications, and everything works perfectly on my phone (registered on T-Mobile), including the fingerprint scanner.
The phone now reports itself as E5823 instead of E5803, but I can live with that!
Fantastic work!

Yeah, I noticed the signal meter reading lower than it should on the Nordic firmware on US T-Mobile. Getting 20Mbps on 4G with no bars is fine with me.

Sony phones have always reported lower signal than actually present. No idea why
Possible to revert back?
This is great news. Is it possible to revert back to make it report as the right model for warranty purposes?
Of corse, just flash back US firmaware and it'll be ok.
just flashed "customized uk" version and got my US z5c fingerprint reader up and running. wonder what, if any, issues might arise from running a firmware for a different model, e5823 vs. e5803.
this thing is nice, but man , it does get pretty hot in the back top center. yowza.
