[Q] Is it possible to tweak auto-brightness levels with custom froyo kernels?

Is it possible to tweak the auto brightness levels now that we have EC10 kernels (someone had told me that auto brightness levels were controlled by kernels)?
It seems like this would be an awesome opportunity for some battery life savings...
Why not just keep it on a low setting, then bump it up whenever you need to?
Just slide your finger along the notification bar or use a widget.
I know I know. I just thought itd be nice to get some use out of the ambient light sensor...

[Q] Two auto brightness settings?

Hi, I have an I9100G, with rooted stock ROM, firmware DZKI1, Android 2.3.5. I'm just curious about a couple of items in the Display settings. There's an option called Brightness - Adjust the brightness of the screen, and when we click it, we can adjust the brightness or select the checkbox for Automatic brightness. On the same screen, a bit further down, there's another setting for Auto adjust screen power - Save power by analyzing image and adjusting LCD brightness. Anybody knows what's the difference between the two?
One uses an external light sensor to adjust for lighting conditions.
the other uses an internal sensor to adjust the colour display depending on the background of the graphic and how many colours are used.

[Q] Auto-brightness vs Lowest brightness

Hi! My question is: Is there a BIG difference between leaving lowest brightness setting and auto-brightness? If so, how much? (Hours, battery usage, etc)
Thanks! I hope this thread will be informative for everyone..
Auto-brightness consumes more battery because it is constantly changing brightness, if you want the best battery power just use the lowest brightness
as aaitken said auto brightness consumes more battery . its better to use low brightness and use a brightness control widget from market and change the brightness manually when required

If you have a stock firmware, or a stock based ROM, you can adjust brightness anywhere you can access the notification bar. This is built into TouchWiz. Just hold your finger on the notification bar until you see the pull-down shade, and slide your finger left or right to adjust brightness.
I leave my brightness on lowest and adjust as necessary with this, i.e. when I'm in a bright setting, and need to turn my brightness up.
Also there is brightness options in AOKP with the toggles and in CM9 (and most other AOSP roms) as a power save widget bala_gamer's option's also a good way
Thank you very much for your helpful answers..

[Q] Lux Auto Brightness Settings

Anyone here using this app for Auto Brightness on AOSP/AOKP
If so, can we share settings?

Click to collapse
Just installed after read your post. First impression: Awesome!!
This app may be the perfect addition to AOPK/CM9 Roms because it's a lot more intelligent than the stock auto brightness settings which are present at those custom roms.
Currently i'm looking after the right settings. What's your current status?
Did you meanwhile find any nice to know settings?
Meanwhile i read the whole instructions and found out my perfect settings.
1) There are several modes of auto brightness
I've chosen the dynamic mode because it adjusts the brightness level immediately when the environment light takes a significant change.
2) If Lux doesn't find your perfect brightness level you can easily go to the dashboard and adjust the brightness by moving the brightness slider to your desired brightness level. After you found your wished brightness level for the current environment you can push the "link" button to save the current brightness level to the environment light.
I did not do any more changes yet as i presume that those setting will be enough to get the perfect brightness settings
What's your experience?
Reinstalled, gunna try it again!
my test settings ;-)

Gboard adjust brightness? And is it possible to tone down key brightness

Hi
Can anyone eloborate on what adjust brightness on Gboard does? I'm using a complete black background and there is an option with a slider to adjust brightness, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
And is there a way to lower the brightness of the keys?
Thanks.
