how to remove android, wipe SD and start with a fresh touchpad - TouchPad General

since upgrading from 3.02 to 3.04, my touchpad has been giving me a lot of trouble. I lost android access and had to reflash moboot, after which i found out i couldnt access CWM. I tried flashing it through ACME but it didn't work. Installed Xron and the files got mixed up with the previous android version.
I'd like to wipe everything off including the SD. And then do a fresh restore with WebOS doctor after which im gonna install CM9
Any advice?

I'd run ACMEUninstaller first, then webosdoctor.

ACMEUninstaller repartitions the drive and removes android. But webOS doctor doesn't wipe the SD.

ACMEUninstaller will completely remove Android. WebOS doctor will restore the webOS side of your tablet to its original "out of the box" state. Unless your intentions are to brick your device by "wiping" it clean, I would agree with the ACMEUninstaller/webOS doctor method.

I'm confused. Currently, my SD partitions are kinda wacked up because I had alot of stuff on the WebOS side before installing android.
Have Xron on it currently.
Should I use ACMEUninstaller, reinstall Android CM7, then flash CM9 straight over?
Or should I just wipe, then flash CM9 over?

I could be mistaken, but the OP's original question was to basically start from a "clean slate". So we were just saying to use ACMEUninstaller then webOS Doc to achieve that. If you're concerned about the partitions and you don't mind the wipe, then that's what I would do if I were you.
Leo will probably have better input than me, but if I were in your shoes, I would do the ACMEUinstaller on your current version of Android. You don't have to reinstall CM7, just make sure you put the ACMEInstaller2 in the appropriate spot.

How about the SD?/

WebOS and Android use the same partition for SD, which is /media. You can wipe that yourself if you want by just mounting to computer and deleting what's in there. But yea, there are files for both systems in that partition, nothing that will brick you by deleting them though.

Ziyad I'm not trying to be mean, but either I am not understanding your question or you're not understanding our answers. I'm going to break down your thread title bit by bit...
"How to remove android..." Pause there. Use ACMEUninstaller.
"...wipe SD..." I am assuming you realize the Touchpad does not have an SD. So we will continue.
"...and start with a FRESH Touchpad." WebOS Doctor. This is a sure way to do it. WEBOS Doc will reinstall a FRESH copy of webOS onto your Touchpad, bringing it to out of the box condition. It will wipe the /media file like the previous post mentioned.

Okay so you currently have android installed, and want to upgrade to CM9 but also repair you touchpad. I would recommend the following:
1. run ACMEUninstaller
2. run WebOS doctor
3. delete everything off your /SD card that you don't want/need
4. update to WebOS 3.0.5
5. install CM9/moboot 3.0.5/CWM using ACMEInstaller2

Thanks a lot for your replies
But I still can't access CWM through moboot. I'm doing it manually by pushing the uImage.clockworkmod via novacom to get access and flash zips.
I even tried reinstalling CWM through ACMEInstaller2(flashed CM9 on my touchpad btw)

Can't you just do a full wipe in WebOS and then literally start at a clean slate, i.e. no Android and cleaned SD card?

What you want to do is follow THIS GUIDE HERE. It shows you how to completely remove Android, re-partition the device, and start completely fresh as if you had just opened the box of your brand-new HP Touchpad when it ran 3.0.0. I follow this guide about every 2-3 months just to make sure everything's running clean and good, and I have yet to ever run into problems.
It completely restores it to factory levels - partitions, WebOS 3.0.0, nothing else. It is your go-to guide on what you should do to start fresh.
From there, read the guide on Rootz and install CM9, and then from there, flash whatever ROM you wanna try out and enjoy.

does tptb remove everything.. I want to learn it all.. Im hooked on touchpad is there a way to start over I cant find webos doctor nor much on how to install and run it on touchpad.. Im wanting to start from scratch.. I have been learning so much on here, tried all the roms and aosp as well thanks..

yes Jcsullins TPtoolbox here will remove all the data, including WebOS, when you do a complete data reset.

With the forward progress of the Android Alphas, I feel like my touchpad is teetering and slowly becoming more and more cluttered. Call me an OCD freak but right now I need help going back to square one;
I want to wipe the touchpad completely, of android, webos, all data.
Reinstall webos fresh and clean and updated.
Install the 3.5 release of the android alpha
continue loving my touchpad
If anyone knows what I need to accomplish these goals, let me know? Thanks.
use WebOS doctor and wipe everything clean).
Then open webos, do anything you need to do there.
Then install android on it.

There is a preware app that removes everything android, that's out. I have not tried it but it sounds good if you want to start over.
Web-doc does not remove all the files and folders. I thank it just changes the format.
so no one knows a way to just format everything?
Wipe Everything
I also would like to know how to wipe everything including all android partitions and ext3fs partitions (from ubuntu). I think I read somewhere the doctor doesn't rewrite partition tables. Any help would be great!
I would assume do a acmeuninstall then webos doctor it

Hi everyone, new to xda.
I also thought it would be a good idea to wipe my TP clean and re-install with the latest version of xron's build. I've had every version of cm7 since it was first released and countless apps, so it was kind of cluttered up. Anyway, uninstalled with the acmeuninstaller and then did a factory erase in webos. Went about my business as usual with the acme installer (with cwm and moboot and the newest xron). Thought all was well until I boot to cwm, no cyanogenmod option! I flashed it using cwm, but I heard somewhere they don't recommend that, so I started over again, and flashed EVERY release from day 1 to the latest one. TP seems cleaner and less cluttered, but I was wondering why the acmeinstaller wouldn't recognize the xron file and install it?

I think you need to rename the xron filename to start with "update-...." and then do the acmeinstall with remaining 2 files i.e. cmw n moboot

since installing android partitions the memory, wouldn't you have to remove the android partition first in order to truly wipe the touchpad?
Once the partition is removed, you could use OS doctor to wipe what's left, and start fresh. At least that's what I'm thinking.
I read elsewhere that you can format the Touchpad in a Linux distro and remove all of the partitions. I have not tried it but I will when I get home and have a better internet connection.

New to CM7. I messed up. Need help.

I installed cm7 and it was working fine. I tried to install transformerbread theme through downloading on the browser and downloading through rom manager. Well when it rebooted. Nothing changed. except for now I cant get online and the settings wont even load. They all just crash. I'm not sure what I did wrong, as only thing I can think of is when rom manager asked what device I had(since theres no touchpad option) I used nook color. Anyways. Any idea how to fix this? If not how do I completely restart to cm7 as it comes from the start. I thought I made a restore point but its saying I didnt make a backup rom.
Appreciate any help. I'm clueless on my first android device.
I saw in one of the post Dal suggested not to use Rom Managers as it doesnt have that support. You can try boot into recovery do a complete wipe and reinstall or uninstall the complete stuff using Acme Uninstall start fresh.
So thats the best option? After rebooting how do I access ACME to uninstall? And what exactly do I uninstall?
Did you install moboot? If you did, boot into recovery (Clockwork), if you did a backup, you should see it in the backup /restore option. If you didn't, read through the forum, you'll find step by step instructions on how to install from scratch.
I think I remember reading that rom manager doesn't work with the TP.
I would just try wiping dalvik and cache in recovery then reflash cm7. It should overwrite the system changes. If that doesn't work, do like the previous poster said and do a full wipe and reflash

rootzwiki.com
I cant find any beginner info on rootzwiki... maybe a more specific link? Even when I went to themes on rootzwiki there is no option for touchpad..?
First welcome to the Touchpad community.
As far as themes and what-not go, stick with things compatible with Theme Chooser. You have to remember, Android is still in alpha stage. Don't go putting the cart before the horse by flashing onto an Alpha Android. Just be patient and allow the devs to do what the do best and, if possible, donate to their project.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305891
Read through this thread, it has good, easy to follow instructions.
Google 'rootzwiki Touchpad forum ', it should point you to the right link.
Once you have Clockwork installed, you can flash roms with it.
Read the forum, it's one of the best ways to learn about Android and the TP.
I already have cm7 installed(clockwork comes installed with it) then I go to thread and downloaded transformerbread theme, then i rebooted into clockworkmod, then i clicked flash from sd card and selected transformerbread, then it abored installation, then i rebooted and now my settings force close and i have no wifi.
i suck at android.. any help please.
I am rooted if i have clockworkmod right?
When you flash cm7, it roots the TP.
To root it in webos, turn debugging on.
so if i want to flash a rom from my computer to cm7 instead of from browser on touchpad how do i do it?
Details are available in this link
Do not use Rom Manager. That is only for devices that have an official CWM.

Soon to be HP Touchpad User - CM9/Dual Booting Questions

I have ordered a 32GB touchpad and just have a few questions.
1. How does the space allocation work when dual booting? Is that something we have any control of? I ask because i will probably be using android primarily, and would like to have as much space as possible on it.
2. WIth the dual booting... is there a way to automatically default it to loading up CM9, instead of having to choose at initial boot up?
3. Is there a way to remove WebOS completely and just have it be CM9?
4. If the above question is yes... or the device gets bricked... can you revert back to stock WebOS ?
Thanks in advance.. and cant wait to get my touchpad tomorrow!
Thanks for asking these questions. I'm getting one the day after tomorrow and had the same ones

WebOS upgrade takes extra space. I think media is shared. 32 is plenty. Get a Box.net account to upload your files.
You can change boot preferences.
No you will not remove webos.
I am using my tp again. I love android on it. ICS. _ thumbs up
does anyone have any links to how i can revert completely back to stock if needed... after android?
planning on doing this tonight because it arrives today!

The wiki provides an uninstall method which works pretty much identically to how you install android. Essentially you run the UNinstaller instead of the INstaller, pretty simple. Had flash a friends TP after doing a couple others recently where I had to revert and start the process over. It's easy as pie.

ok sounds good. does this also remove the android files? or do they have to be manually removed.
That's a good question, not entirely sure. My assumption would be the android files are stripped outside of the one folder you create when putting it on which is a "CMInstall" folder. Even if it doesn't remove them, it shouldn't impact WebOS from functioning as far as I can tell. Besides, once you put Android on it, it is highly unlikely you would ever remove it, you'd have no reason to.
There's a great guide on how to completely remove the Android partitions and restore your TP to complete stock here in THIS THREAD. It walks you through repartitioning the entire device and reinstalling WebOS 3.0.0.
What the ACMEInstaller does is repartition the /media drive (the so-called SD Card), to be smaller by roughly 2 gigs - enough for a /cm-data, /cm-system and /cm-cache partitions that're used by Android. And if you need more space, move your apps to the "SD Card" (/media partition) and you have even more space.
Hope that helps. If you need more, feel free to PM me.

hp touchpad set to read only

Currently running 7.0.1 with no way of upgrading.
I will start off by saying that I have tried all of the tricks that others used to successfully get RW on the TP after CM set it to Read Only. and I have gotten nowhere. I have tried running mount(space)-o(space)remount(space)rw(space)/mnt/sdcard (sans spaces) to no avail
I have also tried using ACME uninstaller and that also did not work.
I am to the point where i just want to restore WebOS and start over.
Any advice would be awesome. I am completely stuck. I can also only boot to android through moboot, booting into WebOS doesnt work, just sends me back to moboot.

5 or 10 mins max .
Edit : If moboot allows you to boot into webos recovery you could run webos doctor . See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244 . It should be the answer to your problems to read before running doctor if you have not removed Android,

I've repaired a busted partition that my co-worker had on his Touchpad. Improper eject while USB connected to webOS caused the partition damage. The repair involves using terminal to restore the base partitions and then webOS Doctor 3.0.0 to comb out the initial webOS partition and install. Then webOS Doctor 3.0.5 and onward.
It's detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24047078&postcount=3
I know there is an alternate method, but cannot find a link for the uimage.

[Q] Return to stock?

If I doctor it, that will still leave the CM's there?

After you doctor, reinstall moboot again, your Android files will still be there.
There's an utility (classic nerd's) that will clean up the moboot menu. To get back to factory settings I think you have to use android remover (or something like that) from webos then run something like secure full erase.
Make sure you have a good backup, just in case.
Run ACMEUninstaller before anything else , after that you should be left with only Webos.
If that is the case boot into Webos run preware and search install and run Android uninstaller, this will remove moboot.
If you have the 32 gig version it should show the TOUCHPAD's hard drive as 27.2 gig instead of 25.5 . You can then do factory reset within Webos and then upgrade to the latest version or if you wish or just install whatever version of Android you want without resetting and or upgrading.
I hope this helps, if you have a problem post back or pm.
