I have looked up this problem on both xda and google but found no Galaxy SII specific solutions.
I receive the error "Can't mount /cache/recovery" message when I enter recovery mode. The same error occurs when try to mount every other mounts and still receive the equivalent error. eg mount emmc gives "error mounting /emmc/
I am unable to flash a new rom or even mount the sd card to place a rom on.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times but to no avail. I have also tried to full wipe, cache wipe and format the internal partitions individually through the recovery but it did not work.
Clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.3
same error occurs on cwm 4.0.1.4
No current rom
Heard people say that by removing the sd card the error is resolved... (will only work if a corrupt sd card is to blame)
Might be able to use internal though
I tried it without the sd card, still same error. Also, the sd card i used before was working on another phone with all files intact, so no corrupted sd.
I would try starting a fresh... flashing with odin etc ... can you access download mode ?

Yeah that version of cwm has that problem. What you can do is copy a rom to your external sdcard, take out sdcard and put in card reader copy rom and put back in phone, and install from zip and then go external sdcard and install from there. Or what you can do is use odin to flash cwm v5.5 which works just fine.
Hope this helps.

How can I solve it?
I can't boot my gs2 now!

I can't boot and can't read my internal sd, how can I flash another rom?
Using CWM, you can mount /sdcard.
Check mounts and storage menu.
Also try "Mount Usb storage", connect to pc and check if comp detects your phone.

Try flashing one of the rooted kernels using Odin.

Currentlyhaving the same issue.
This is a kernel issue. It happened to one of the 2.x Siyahkernel beta versions. Simplest solution is to boot the phone and use CWM to flash a different kernel using the tar format (instead of the zip format good for use in recovery mode) (flash a kernel version that's known to be without this problem).
If you can't get past the boot screen, just use odin. But then if you can't get past the boot screen you probably need to flash a ROM over anyway.
I am having the same issue with my internal SDCARD
I cannot access my internal SDCARD. When I insert my external (/removeable) sdcard, recovery sees that as the SDCARD.
I have tried to mount/ dismount/ usmount the internal SDCARD - same error.
THIS is the TMOBILE T989 and we got it yesterday - brand new.
So, I did get it to work from the removeble SDCARD, but I am so use to using the internal SDCARD on my VIBRANT as the primary resource for ROMS, etc, and the external SDCARD as a backup - that it is kinda strange to work now with only one SDCARD (the ext).
It must be something in the recovery that does not see the primary SDCARD...
CAn anyone help, please?
Note that CWM 4 and CWM 5 behave differently with respect to internal and external sd cards (well CWM 4 simply doesn't do external sd card). It'd be your best interest to flash a kernel that comes with a CWM version 4.x.x and for sure internal sdcard will work.
In CWM4, internal sdcard is /sdcard. External card is /emmc. (you can only format external sdcard but not write to it nor mount it.
In CWM5, you can restore nandroid backup from internal sdcard (but you can flash updates from both) . And in the CWM app, default backup location is the external sdcard.
Those who are having problems with CWM 5, flash this version of CWM from your CWM!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h1yia0gt1sbnbie/cwm-4.0.1.5.zip
You will have cwm 4.
Does this work on the Nook Tablet? Mine doesn't appear to function when I try to do a backup.
ROM Manager
I am using ROM manager on CM7 alpha12 without problems. I use it to boot to CWM recovery and back. I use TB and CWM for backup so I can't verify backup with ROM manager.

So you are saying that you did the newest CM7 upgrade and your CWM works without using a SDcard? When I try to do a backup in ROM Manager my tablet will reboot and then it comes up with a screen saying to power cycle again and if this don't fix it call B&N support
ROM manager
Correct - if I want to use CWM I just start THE RM app and select to reboot to recovery. The tablet reboots into cwm and I do what I need, for example, backup and repartition data and media then select to reboot to regular CM7 ROM w/o changing SD card.

Bummer Mine doesn't work and I have no idea how to fix it
I cant do a backup directly from ROM manager either.
BUT if you follow his directions and boot into CWM first, you can do a backup from there without a hitch.
If you want to name it yourself you need to go to the file in your file manager of choice, and change it there.
Can someone tell me where backups to internal storage are stored?
Thanks.
sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
I do believe you need a sd card for your backups.
It sounds like you do not have one, thats why you are not able to do a backup?
I have one and it creates a backup via internal. But when I try to backup to sd card, it tells me it failed to mount. So I backup via "internal storage." I can then go to restore and I see my backup from the internal there.
Dont have my tablet in front of me but it somehwere like: /mnt/emmc/clockworkmod/backup
You should find a clockwordmod in that general area if its like CM7 for other devices
You can manually mount and unmount your SDcard through clockwordmod as well. Have you tried to mount it manually before backing up
I just decided to try it again, booted into CWM and clicked "backup" and now its backing up to sd (free space showing as 30017MB, 32gb card so that makes sense).
Earlier when I tried manually mounting the sd card it was giving me an error (failed to mount). I have no idea what fixed it but its working now and I'm sure I'll be able to find the sdcard backup at the very least.
Thanks for your help.
The SD card doesnt always mount on its own in these devices. I HAVE noticed that..
Hell,it doent even want to mount with guidance, as you have just shown, and I have experienced as well..
Glad it worked this time..
sd mount
As has been noted in other threads, sometimes you have to take the card out and reinsert to get it to mount. I have had times when using the CWM menu option to mount sdcard failed. Turn the tablet over, click the card out and back in and it will mount

Definitely the case, but when in CWM it doesnt always mount even by ejecting and re-inserting the card.
At least from my experiences.
While trying to install a ROM from my SD card with CWM I am getting the message "E:Can't mount SD card" I was able to move it internal and install the ROM but I'm curious why I couldn't do the same the SD card. The card does seem to be mounted correctly because I can go to ES Explorer and see the content with no problem. It only seems to be CWM Recovery that can't see it.

when i was watching the utube videos ( of Albert ? ) . . i remember he had to 'pop the card out and back in again', and then issue the 'read sd card' command once more .... to get it to cooperate . . i am sure i remember that. did you watch the video ?
If you are "rebooting" into recovery, the sd card will often not mount. Rebooting into Android also seems to have this problem. Simply removing the card and putting it back in will solve it for Android. I'm not sure about clockworkmod. I generally just power off and then manually boot into recovery.
I popped and put back in the SD card and now CWM recognizes. However I'm still having issues.
If I load the ROM NT_stock_1.4.0_Ribbon_Root_v2 (from the lavero.burgos thread) after it says that the install is complete I see this.
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
If I load the 1.4.0 stock ROM CWMrestore_1_4_0__plus_NTV16gbV4_6 then as soon as it says Installing update... I get
Installation Aborted
Something is amiss with my CWM
Which model do you have?

Well the ribbon rom shouldn't be seeing that error. You're installing the zip file correct? Maybe download it again. Try another rom like cm7 of cm9 and see what happens.
As for the cwm restore rom, that is not a flashable zip. You need to extract the downloaded file, place it at /clockworkmod/backup/ (on internal or external)and then restore it.

With the ribbon ROM I tried to take it to a place with free WiFi (since the error with not being able to get past the B&N registration due to not being able to connect to my WiFi) and get a different error. It sees the WiFi and when I click to registrator it bails with a message at the bottom that says "B-bind error." So I came home and again downloaded the other ROM (the 1.4.0 called CWMrestore_1_4_0__plus_NTV16gbV4_6) and still get the same error with that one. So I guess my next play is to try a third a third ROM but I'm not too confident that will work either. I've cleared the Dalvik cache. Should I also try clearing any other cache? I'm afraid I may clear out something I need and already kind of have myself in deep enough.
Last resort would be to reimage from an SD card but I feel like I'm so close and there must be something simple to get me over the hump.
How are you trying to install the cwm recovery rom?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
The ROM was installed by putting the zip in the root of my SD card, going into the CWM menu and using the install zip from sdcard option. I also cleared out the Dalvik cache as rcommended.
The recovery wasn't from a ROM but rather from a backup I did before trying the ROM install. It didn't work for whatever reason.
I've since punted (reimaged via SD card, rerooted and backed up again). The ROM failed again. Same thing where I can't get past the B&N registration page because beacuse my WiFi doesn't connect (Connted, testing). I did notice this time a b-bind error.
The one thing different is that my backup was successful this time as I can restore to the rooted 1.4.0 mode (WiFi works). So I don't need to start from scratch again but still can't seem to get a ROM installed.
I try to do format the internal sd card but cmw recovery give me this error Error Mounting /sdcard/.android_Secure
i can/t solve this problem i try also to restor a nandroid backup but it/s impossibile mount the internal sd card so the process is aborted. any solution?
in this moment i try to flash with odin a stock fw, install the latest cwm and then retray to format :\
thanks

Use hard reset service code to wipe all including internal sdcard.

I'm having this same problem. I just tried installing Resurrection Remix, and it crashed, and now it seems like the internal SDcard is not functioning. I cannot boot. I can get into CWM or d/l mode though. In recovery, it will mount the external sd fine, but can't mount the internal sd, it skips formatting it every time because it can't mount. I tried installing Siyah kernel though ODIN, but it fails everytime after loading the boot. I tried re formatting partition in ODIN, but again, it fails. I tried reinstalling different ROMS off of the external SD card, but all they do is quickly show the boot flash, and then go straight to a black screen.

my problem is different from yours, because I use the terminal without any problems (excluding this, of course) I think that your internal sd is broken. I'm sorry
Go to "check-rom" thread then go to their base rom download page and Odin resurrection version and flash that..
IF this doesn't solve your problem, then go to samfirmware.com and download a 3(4 with pit file) file stock rom and flash this, first with pit file and the 3 files and see if this solves your problem.
IF that didn't work either then try with repartition ticked(at your own risk) but be sure to know how to flash properly with Odin and repartition, so search and read as much as u can on how to use Odin..
PS..always do a factory wipe before flashing to get a clean install,u can always restore stuff using titanium backup
Use repartition as a last resort and remember to include pit file when repatitioning
the error log from cwm is this
can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
today i'm very tired i try to find a solution tomorrow thanks guys
I am a complete noob and got my lesson for messing up with my phone. I have an already rooted SGH i777 and was trying to flash OMNI Rom for 4.4. I wiped emmc by mistake. Although I did back my stuff up, they are no where to be found.I get cannot mount SD card error through CWM v6. I read somewhere that this is resultant of having no operating system in my phone anymore.
My phone is not recognised by computer. But I can access an external microSD card while booting recovery using CWM. Please help me as I am completely lost without my phone. You patience is deeply appreciated.

If that's the case, you should be able to put a rom on the micro SD card and simply flash it in recovery. You may have lost your backups, but if you can flash a rom via the SD card you ought to be fine.
Let us know if you need any more help,

I'm not clear what you mean by "I wiped EMMC." Can you please describe exactly what you did, and describe the options you used if it was through recovery, which I assume it would have been.
If you put the phone into download mode while Odin3 is open on the desktop, does Odin3 recognize the phone?
FYI: TWRP file browser sees internal memory as "emmc". From the advanced wipe menu of TWRP, exists the option to wipe internal memory.
edit: really annoyed that I am limited to eight thanks at a PC, which has a much more comfortable interface than the XDA app, where I have unlimited thanks to offer my peers.
This is what happened
Dear all,
Thank you for your help. This is what I did. I tried to install Omni ROM for 4.4. I I downloaded the .zip file for the ROM and Gapps package zip and SuperUser zip. I went to CWM based recovery mode and wiped data/factory reset and wipe cache partition and in advanced wipe dalvik cache.( I did not run any wipe script as mentioned in this forum. I would have avoided all this if i actually paid attention and read the correct way of flashing here.)
I then went on to mounts and storage and did format/cache , system, data and preload. But also format /emmc
After that no ROM could be flashed and I could not access any recoveries. I realised my error when I saw the log that No files are found and couldnt open directory.
Update :
My phone is not recognized by Odin v1.85 and I also put a SAMSUNG_UCLE5.zip for SGHi777 given by a friend on to a microSD card and tried flashing that ROM from external microSD.
The log says:
I:Can't partition unsafe device: /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
I tried to partition just to see if it works. This time the log says
I:Can't format unknown volume :/external_sd. I never had an external sd card, but I gather that the system was partitioned in such a way that one chunk is considered external_sd.
Odin doesnt recognise it in download mode. I tried every USB port, changed data cables, tried different drivers available on Samsung website.
Please tell me I didn't ruin my phone. Any help is deeply appreciated.

This is beyond my level of understanding. I'm not sure what block 1p1 is. All of the partitions are designated as 0px where x is a number 1-15~.
I assume you've tried all the variables to get Odin to recognize the phone in download mode. Since Odin doesn't recognize download mode, I don't know of anything else to do but send it to someone with jtag equipement. It'll cost you maybe 40 or 50 bucks, but at least you can get your phone back. The person most trusted in the forums here for this sort of repair is Josh at Mobile Tech Videos.
