Works fine except for installing packages, ubuntu version is old and no more mantained, and tried an upgrade procedure with update-manager -d and didn't work.
Yay, exactly what I have been waiting for. But for the life of me, I can't seem to download the file. Can you upload it to multiupload.com or something?
Will be testing this when i get home! What version of ubuntu is it running? Might even be able to use it for completely replacing my laptop. Need something i can program on, and this might be the ticket!

It's gonna be very tough to get the ARM version of Windows 8 as MS is going the secure UEFI route...

That may be the best idea for a Nexus tablet announcement I've ever heard. Announcing the first official Google Nexus Tablet, typically great specs, with a great dock/keyboard, and the announcement of an android app Android SDK.
This, plus some really nice plug & play style USB port usage would make for a killer announcement.
I would recommend VNC Viewer, it is $10 but it works much much better than android-vnc-viewer. About 2-3 times smoother than in the videos.

Thanks for the awesome guide. Got ubuntu nstalled and running without any issues but how do I access my files that is residing on my Android partition/SD card from within ubuntu ? Thanks
What does it take to get a version of eclipse compiled for arm?
Right now it errors saying "bash: ./eclipse: cannot execute binary file" (Google says that means you have the wrong version. ex 64 on 32 machine).

Yey, I got Ubuntu running on Nexus One!

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that you also need the latest version of busybox installed!!!
Also video coming soon.
That's really exciting, though I'm afraid it's incapable of daily use.
Awesome, I was wondering when something like this would happen.
Yeah, that does look really cool..i think it would be a lot easier to use if there was a way to avoid using vnc, but that would probably be very difficult to do.

ROFLMAO! Sorry...my heads in the gutter right now!
Guys that is VNC! The dude there is not actually running Ubuntu on the phone!
Through VNC you can connect to OSX and Windows 7 as well.. so what's so special here?
You cannot connect to Windows7 or Mac, when you type in a VNC localhost to connect!
So Ubuntu run on the phone and you use it with the xserver with a vnc viewer.
I hope so

Not one to plug things but titanium backup is great for this just create an update.zip with it to install tb if anything happens, then you can wipe and install in recovery and have everything backed up run batch restore apps + data and BOOM! Everything is back.

I saw in another thread that it's an Atrix 2.
Lets not hold our breath on whether we'll get it or not.. Looks like they are looking for developers from the companies to get compatibility development going...
I wish someone would release an DIY on how to compile the ARM ubuntu for us to mod our webtops...
No freaking way.

I hear ya....
I wish sometimes I had the technical know how to make these things... it's such a great idea, and if it was possible. I couldn't imagine the capabilities.... especially with things like the lapdock
this may just be a foolish hope, but I see many similarities to the current webtop, so the atrix might be one of the first devices with this feature. Who knows, maybe it will replace webtop under the upcoming ICS release

What you're saying is like saying I can run windows on my phone...
not sure if you understand the point of this?
What you refer to is VNC (virtual network computing)
this is native (as in ubuntu runs off the phone interacting with the kernel itself)
Hmmm so the Ubuntu Installer app in the market is VNC? I'm pretty sure it installed a legit Ubuntu 10.10 ARM optimized on your phone.

The one in the market will mount the Ubuntu image as loop device. Then, you can use VNC to remote into the GUI of the image. It works, but is not optimal.

this. the ubuntu installer is like a gimmick lol
i'm definitely not holding my breath. not a chance in hell moto will waste moneydelivering an upgrade of this caliber to a year old phone. better believe i won't be upgrading again unless that upgrade has this tho =D
unfortunately our best hope is in the community devs. and considering they're working on their own time and not getting paid, what kinda odds you figure? lol i'd donate time and money to this, btw i don't want a next gen atrix with a clunky ass 10lb lapdock. i like the one i have
Okay, we've got our bootloader unlocked, we're rooted, CWM, and custom rooms; where's the dual booting linux? I know we have that vpn stuff, but what about turning this beast into a computer. We could even get some of this hacking in on the go with backtrack. I may be wrong, but this is all possible, right? I'm a bit of a noob in dual booting on a tablet, so don't flame if I'm way off or something, but I think it would be neat... Thoughts, ideas, etc.... tell me what you think.
Edit: Or do we need nvflash unlocked?
Edit2: Okay guys, now we know (or at least I do) that Ubuntu is in progress. You can check it out over at www.androidroot.mobi. Soo.. Lets make this the discussion thread (Info, Q's, discussions, debates, etc... whatever...). Enjoy and I'll try to update with new info (feel free to give your insight)
I am sure you'll get flamed for posting in the wrong section but I am eagerly awaiting someone to get dual boot running.
My no development skills at all guess is nvflash is the problem.
We'll let someone who knows correct me though.

Anyone knows if there is already a public repository for the Ubuntu dualboot?
Would love to help out =]
Also is the same approach used as for the TF101 dualboot or is the partitioning different?
Keep up the great work so far guys!
I hope to see dual boot with Ubuntu one day as it'll save me the trouble of keeping my netbook for days when I need to do MATLAB and other things exclusive to PCS. Would love to see an implementation where android is still kept in internal memory and Ubuntu is kept in the microsd/sd (not sure how performance would be if this was the case though)

And do you guys know if someone else other than lilstevie is working on a dual boot solution?
Currently I'm a bit cautiousness about flashing due to the 'brick 2 option'

I did it in Parallels.
You can't actually do anything on a mac. Joke's on you.
Thats not true. Its a UNIX based OS so it so you can do a LOT of stuff with it
