Hi,
I have a problem with my Galaxy SII. But first a little background: I bought it used, the guy i bought if from said the OS is broken, because it requested password to unlock the screen, even when he never set up one (he just installed custom OS and it happened). It was a little weird, that it unlocked itself when I pressed a menu button couple of times. So, the first thing i did was wipe all data and settings, but it didn't helped. Than I installed different karnel and ROM, but it only made things worse: now there is no chance of unlocking it (repetitive pressing menu button does not help any more). So I installed a new karnel/ ROM AGAIN, and it's all the same. Any ideas how to fix it?
PS:
Sorry, if post is posted in wrong category, but i thought Q&A was most appropriate..

I dont think the OS was broken as passwords dont just make themselves by accident.I think maybe it was found or stolen(no harm intended). As for the home button i would imagine it was because the ROM installed had the Double-Click funtion set.Best option is to format System/Data/Cache and flash a stock F/W and hope all goes well.Sometimes a password cant be changed if dont know what it is....even after a flash but I hope it all goes well anyway.
EDIT:After the stock F/W,flash a full wipe ROM also to make sure it gets a good clean up.

Hi guys.
i installed Launcher Pro Plus 0.8.5 for Galaxy S by mistake on my Galaxy Ace.
First the phone was laggy about 5 seconds, then rebooted itself and i'm a stuck at "samsung" screen. Phone just vibrates, but won't boot. I removed battery a tried to start it again, same issue....passes boot animation, but then bootloops.
could anyone help me please?
the phone is 2 days old from orange store.
This is pretty critical, i need to get it working till sunday.
But i don't want to lose warranty. I can enter download mode atm.
Could anyone please help me?
how do i remove that app from my phone, when cannot boot?
i tried to search samfirmware, that i would ODIN stock rom, but i don't know my PDA key - i cannot select the best PDA key.
I am from Slovakia, phone bought in slovakian store, if anyone could give me correct PDA.
thank you guys
Wait.. Isn't LauncherPro an universal app? I mean how could you say its SGS specific when anybody with different phones can download it from the same place?
That aside, since the download mode are OK, you can just try to re-flash your current ROM.
The warranty will be void only if you root it or put different ROM into your phone.
If this helped you, would you mind pressing that lil thanks button below?
Why Dont you try entering in recovery mode and do a wipe data/factory reset to enter recovery press home key + pwr on key, you mevo trough options with volume keys and select wit home button jus select wipe data/factory reset
i just wiped data..i was trying volume up + home key + power button, like on SGS.
well with that launcher pro....i guess it will be other version for ace...sure you can download it from market, but i think it's some different build or something.
anyways, wiping data/factory reset solved this issue for me..
thank you guys!
i personaly would root the phone in first 30 minutes i get it, install some cool custom rom and enjoy the power of the phone, like i did on SGS, but it is my GFs phone..she almost killed me when this happened
wipe is more than enough to reset. and i can't help myself stop thinking people on xda abuse all this flashing thing - it's everybody's solution for every problem - RE-flash. NO NEED to reflash if you haven't rooted/flashed your phone before - flashing just voids your warranty in this case. and it ain't only topic affected...
sorry for being picky, but i'm in exactly same shoes here - i've been doing whatever with my SGS, but my missus's ACE is no go (until good rom comes ) - so i can imagine being given advise to flash, because i got bootloop... bit silly...
some sort of noobs guide/tutorial topic from OP/someone respected e.g. devs regarding whole flashing idea would be beneficial for many, many people. it's my opinion only. thanks
Hi all,
I have a problem which i hope you guys can solve.

You can restore factory settings via CWM, i think.
But whats the problem that makes you wana do this. .?
Then i think youd better flash stock rom...
Send from my rooted 10.1v
well that is what i tried to. i installed Rom manager. and i wanted to boot it into clockword, but nothing happend ( even after i tried it for 4 times). And the strange thing is, if i want to use a different item from rom manager, it says that i does not have permissin, though i have root.

The no permission part...have you got the premium version?
You must have premium for some options.
As for not coming into cwm, try to flash cwm with rom manager.
Then reboot in cwm via rom manager....
Let me know if it worked

well i tried that to , but when he almost finished it gives an error saying:

But now it loops the logon. so when i turn the tab on, i see the text Galaxy tab 10.1v, and the unlock lock (at the bottum of the screen) and then the screen goes black en do it again, and again...

Hi all,
I have looked for a similar post, I found out that many people experienced something like that trying unlocking their phones, but I haven't found out any solution.
Here is my situation:
I have tried to unlock my s5830 (orange spain carrier), I have used a method which it seems to be dangerous for the phone, but of course I have found out it was dangerous after I have already tried it
Anyway after I discovered the unlock number contained in the perso.txt file in the efs folder, my phone restarted without service once and after that it went in a bootloop mode, it goes on a download mode, but there is no way to get back recovery mode or a normal boot.
I flashed the s5830 several times with many firmware, but no one worked, and the phone is still stuck in an infinite loop, in which I am not even able to see the samsung logo coming out at the very beginning.
I know many phones got bricked in this way, I wanted to know if anybody has been able to recover the phone or if anybody know any possible solution.
And if not, do you know if the warranty is covering this problem? I just got the phone a couple months ago; i have unlocked other devices before, but this is the first time I have experienced a problem so I am quite new about warranty as well. Please HELP ME
Merry Christmas guys!!!
Thanks in advance

with the cellphone off, put out ur baterry for a minute, then maintain ur finger into the volume down button and the power button tell a friend or if u can alone insert the batery while quickly pressing volume down and power button to get into download mode, and flash.
Hehehe, bootloop is horrible, you just have to get in download mode & flash with 2.3.4 firmware with Odin, just that steps and you save your SGA.
I got bootloop many times and Odin saved me.

he cant go back in recovery mod............
If you can go to recovery mode than you can just wipe the data and cache. This saved me many times. Otherwise on what ever OS you may be , just create new user name after removing samsung android drivers. Login from new user name and than re install drivers again and now flash your phone from firmware which was installed on your phone before you bricked it. This helped me a few times.

It seems that you've already received a lot of help for unbricking your device. So I'll try to help out in unlocking your phone after you finished unbricking it.
This is the method I personally used on my locked Ace:

It's perfectly safe. 100%.

thank you very much I will follow your advice...IF I will be able to get my phone back which seems impossible =(
@dr_vishal
Thank you first of all, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the android device driver, but it doesn't seems to be the problem, Odin ends with a "PASS" at the end, I guess there still is comunication in the between the two devices...
Hopefully it will be a Merry Christmas =)
It's not impossible. I'm relatively new here but I have noticed quite a few "bricked" threads already. Most of them (if not all) have been able to fix their device. I haven't seen a single person permanently brick their device, so I would guess that your chances of fixing it are really high. Just be patient and keep describing your situation and more experienced help will certainly arrive. I'd really like to help out but I have no idea how to fix it as I have not experienced bricking my phone yet.
Anyway, if the method for unlocking I suggested works for you kindly press the Thanks Button. Merry Christmas!

just a thought
a lot of people have talked about reflashing it and all but have you managed to get into the recovery mode at all once you have reinstalled the rom with odin? if you can get to that you just need to hit factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik and normaly after that it will work fine... so far ive been stuck in soft brink 3 times and each time doing the wipes from the recovery mode has worked...

I've tried to use the oneclick, but it seems it doesn't recognize the phone, since, i guess, it's made for a galaxy s.
The others are not my case, since I am able to get download mode, and all these are made to can get it back.
Anyway I found out a post in which the people were talking about the s5500, which apparentely is similiar to my device, and the owners of that model experienced a similar problem doing the same process....anyway in that post the people needed to use a Jtag, which is the only way to get it back....so I though it could be the same solution for my problem...but I don't know anybody with Jtag, so the only way is contacting the service center.
thanks anyway, when I will be back at home after Christmas I will try to find the ticket and I will probably try to get it back in warranty, since is preatty new...
@torchwolfery
I am not able to reach recovery mode, there is no way to get it back, even flashing the phone with different firmwares, all I got is download mode, and apparently that is completely pointless...since the only change in the phone behavior is that if i install a certain firmwares it doesn't even have the back-light working when it is stuck in bootloop.
Warranty is your only hope (as it was mine once and it worked).
I didn't think it was possible to brick these phones. There I have tried so much to try and brick it but I have not been able to as it still always goes into 'download' mode. The only advice I can give you is double check that you are using the correct version of Odin which is v4.38 and that you use cooper v1.0 as your OPS. If dont mind me asking, but exactly what did you do or do you remember the steps you took to brick it? What buttons are you using for 'recovery' mode.
Also please clarify if Odin is going in a loop or does the phone come on and then keeps rebooting? If it is the phone that keeps rebooting, then wiping cache and data partition should do the trick. This can be done by going into recovery mode (which I am aware you cannot get into) or if you can manage to get into the dialler quick enough before the reboot, by dialling *7267*3855# and that should format the relevant partitions (data and cahce) and bring it back to factory settings. Without further info, I cannot really tell exactly what the situation is.
The fact that you are getting 'download' mode, I dont think that it is bricked because it will still allow you to write the relevant directory/files to the relevant blocks. Either way, would be interested to know.
Hi all,
Have a really bad problem, just rooted a galaxy s 3 for a friend, i've rooted many, he was on 4.1.1 i used the toolkit as i've used it before.
The root process worked well and now the phone boots up, makes a sound and then doesn't show anything on the screen.
Now nothing comes on the screen at all although it does make a boot sound (the samsung logo noise) the only thing i get on the screen is the galaxy s III logo and a small red exclamation mark up the top left.
Really would like to get this back on.
My friend bought it from singapore, although it is a i9300.
I can get to recovery and i can also get to download mode.
Any ideas?
If it is a I9300 then factory reset from recovery or flash a stock rom .

Actually sorted this now, I used the older toolkit and it caused this issue. Wiping it wouldn't have helped.
Used the new toolkit and all is well again.

I'm suffering the exact same problem (likely for the same reason - used older version, although possibly just because I messed up on my own).
@dladz, or anyone else who might be able to help, could you please give me a pointer on where to go after downloading the newer toolkit. I have a vague idea but I imagine it would be better to ask at this stage before I really mess it up myself.
If anyone could help you'd be a life saver
---------------------
Edit: After prodding around and "fixing" it I thought I'd leave this information for other noobs so they don't ask the same question/harass dladz like myself.
Simply boot up holding the vol down and home button, connect via USB and open Odin.
From there make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked.
Click PDA and select C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit\root\GT-I9300\boot-stock-ella-GTI9300.tar (From the toolkit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488)
Hit start and wait for the square on the top left to turn green and say pass. The device should reboot and be work again. As I'm a retard you may decide not to follow these instructions for your own safety and the safety of your device, however it worked for me.
Apologies for being a pain in the arse, I'll go back to lurking quietly and I'll try not to break anything else.
My phone is an S3 i9300. Some weeks ago I installed an XXUGMK6 Android 4.3 version. At that time I was directed to an East European site (Russian?) which had one of the first releases. Everything have worked ok until I decided to try another ROM (Slimrom). I enabled USB debugging and tried to restart the phone in download mode (Power+Home+volume down buttons) to start the rooting process. I arrive at a screen saying:
Warning!!
A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications.
If you want to download a custom OS, press the volume up key.
Otherwise, press the volume down key to cancel.
If I press the volume up key it apparantly starts downloading (text on screen: Downloading. Don't switch off your Phone). Nothing more happens even after almost 3 hours, and I have to force restart the phone.
I have tried to factory reset the phone, but it is still impossible to past the Warning!! screen.
Any suggestions on how to solve the problem are much appreciated.

Sorry litttle confused by your post
First thing first you do not need to root your phone to install a custom rom they come already rooted...Second thing you do not install custom roms in download mode you flash them via a custom recovery such as PhilZ recovery,Twrp or Cwm recovery.
Are you saying you are stuck in download mode? If so did you pull the battery?
Op is missing most of the basic knowledge from sticky thread in general forum, suggest he go read all the posts before doing anything else.

Thank you for such a prompt replay. Sorry for the double posting. You probably already guessed that I am a little confused, too.
Well, my chain of thoughts was that since I didn't have a custom recovery installed, I had to boot in download mode to install it with Odin. Then I planned to boot to recovery to flash the SlimKat ROM.
I am now embarrassed to realize that when I arrived at the "Downloading... Don't switch off your Phone" screen, and didn't know how to proceed, the phone was, in fact, in download mode. I didn't notice the very small, red letters in the upper left corner saying "Odin mode". Things are a lot clearer to me now, and I have successfully flashed the ROM. I hope you are a little bit less confused, too.
Could I spend just a little more of your time? The reason for using the SlimKat ROM was to speed up the rather laggy Galaxy i9300. Do you have an idea which ROM would serve that purpose best?

Glad you sorted it .Like @boomboomer said try to do a little bit more research before attempting any sort of software change on your phone one little mistake can turn into a big problem.
Unfortunately I can't give any advice on which rom is fastest/best because that kind of post is not allowed on Xda and they will close the thread..Only thing I can suggest is read the user reports in the different rom threads and basically try them out because each user as a different opinion on each rom..Good luck.
