now just waiting for the dock, come on amazon!

I've never had to do a return with Amazon. I assume you're stuck with s/h costs(?)
In some ways, I'm kinda holding out for someone like Wal*mart to get stock because I assume it will be easier and cheaper to return/exchange there. Of course, that theory is suspect to their inventory, too.
Does anyone have exchange experience through Amazon?

If you purchase with Amazon is defective, Amazon will pay s/h costs.

Still in stock!

I think we should tell amazon abouf the lower price at microcenter ($449.99). Maybe they will put it at this price and then we can all call to pricematch. The item is still in stock at some microcenter in California, not online though. Worth trying.

well, I am looking forward to buying this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...17145&creative=399349&creativeASIN=B004V949OO
But right now its little pricey.
I ordered mine from here, and opted for standard USPS First Class Mail shipping.
http://www.upgradenation.com/775435/asus-notebook-accessory-90-ok00bg00010-tf101.html
Total came to $51.55, certainly not cheap. It will take a week to reach me, however, I have the exact same type of case for my Ipad 2 and it is a superior product, worth waiting for. Fits the unit like a glove, with no sag or slack, all major switches and ports remain accessible, works well as a stand and exudes quality throughout.
Amazon has it for $39.99 and with discount coupon I had for $10, it came out to $29 bucks, with 2 day shipping, FREE!
Amazon doesn't have it in stock, so I ordered from this website posted in a different thread:
http://www.excaliberpc.com/605684/asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101.html
$46 was the total shipped, USPS Priority Mail, but I'm not getting a dock and this is the only real option for a true tablet case at the moment.
w00t! Finally in stock BY Amazon!
Got it with Prime. $39.99, no tax, free 2 day shipping! $39.99!
You sure about that? You can buy it, but the estimated ship date is 1-3 weeks.

A few hours ago, you couldn't order it from Amazon, now you can. I put my order in but it says shipping May 11-13.

Excaliberpc is doing preorders on even the 16gb. They're selling it for $50 over retail on Ebay, I doubt they have the sleeve in stock.

ExcaliburPC is putting a ton of listings on ebay all "preorders" for may, and marking it up too.
Very annoying. If I was a customer of theirs, I'd stop being one.
Yeah, but the TF101 is listed as Pre-order, and the sleeves are listed as being in stock with a certain number left (19 to be exact), and the base price is the retail price of $39.99. If it doesn't ship by Friday I'll get a refund.

My compliments to those of you who landed this fish for less than I did.. I'm always impressed by the frugal souls on XDA, and hope my children emulate your example.
My sleeve has just shipped (rather faster than I expected), and I'll see it by Saturday, not too shabby. The main thing is that we're all getting the very best Transformer case currently available. Just take care of that velour exterior, which feels wonderful to the touch but tends to attract lint etc.

I cited this link earlier in this thread. Had never heard of this place before, but they had stock, albeit not at a competitive price. Decided to go for it since I can vouch for the quality of the case which, in design and materials, is identical to that I use with my Ipad 2.
BTW, many thanks again to Donatom3 for lighting my path to PC Richards. That worked out!

Best Buy and the Dock

For what it's worth (because it's backordered), the dock is now for sale at Best Buy (.com anyway). I'm waffling on the dock, but with my gift cards and RZ money, I can get it pretty cheap, plus I get a $10 gift card, so I'm probably going to take the plunge once it's in stock.

Thank you, gbcue. Contacted Amazon, ordered Dock, took out a free trial of Amazon Prime, got one-day service for $3.50 +/-, will cancel same within 30-days, might take a couple of days for delivery BUT THEY HAVE IT!!!!! Cancelled orders @ J & R and also Tiger Direct. Tiger has rec'd a shipment (much less than what it ordered), but it is going to take an unknown number of days for it to sort everything out and start shipping.
I'd grab the one from Amazon if I wasn't going to save so much from BB by using all my cards and points (good thing about being a tech nerd, a BB gift card is always a great gift!). I can wait, the dock is a luxury for my existing luxury

they can notify if/when something is in stock.
I pre-ordered the dock from Best Buy and picked ship to store, so there was only tax to deal with. That's fine, though, since I can just walk it back in should something go wrong with it. The biggest issue is when it'll ship.
According to nowinstock, Adorama has it in stock.
Amazon update
I checked in and verified my Dock should be shipped on the 10th.
HOWEVER, I also noticed the price was now $179. There are 4 left. The kicker is I got mine for the "standard" price of $149. This is from another private vendor. The private price has been steadily going down on Amazon. This is around $100 less that it had previously been, but still a rip off. I think mine is coming directly from Amazon, not through any third-party vendor.
They're back in stock, but not in any stores near me, so I can't use my promo coupons

Try this "Asus - USB 2.0 Docking Station"
It appears the dock is being carried in-store now -- every store near me has it. I've got some RZ bucks and a 12% off coupon (that includes tablet accessories!), so I guess I'll finally take the plunge.

When do the Fire Sales start?

What will happen to the returns from dissatisfied customers?
Sold as "Open Box" Items?
Sold as "Used" Items?
Returned to ASUS to be resold as "Refurbished" Items?
Returned to ASUS to be destroyed so that the price for a Prime is not jeopardized?
It is going to be interesting, and I think that waiting a month or so might be economically the thing to do.
George
Look how much the original transformer still cost. I don't think it's going to be that drastic in a month.
This tablet is going to be the same price for a year or longer and there will never be a fire sale for this tablet the returned once wall get fixed up and sold again you will have to pay a the full price or check ebay to get one cheaper

With it still being launched, Asus would be insane to even put them back out as refurbs. Most likely they'll be refurbed and offered to Asus employees and perhaps friends and family at a discount. Any excess would just be stock piled and released much later in the year. The few bucks they'd pick up selling them now wouldn't be worth tanking the new retail price.
Prime/Asus is in no comparison to the failure of the touchpad. Transformer Primes are selling like hotcakes and still very hard to come by. much later down the road you might be able to find a refurbished one. plus it would piss off all people who paid regular price for it..lol. I would've rather waited also if that was gonna be the case b save me some money

As a matter of fact I don't think the transformers are ever sold as open box items, or refurbished. I have never seen the originals as open box. They probably are required to be sent back to ASUS so there component parts can be reused in new assemblies.

Squaretrade warranty 2 year accidental damage $63.99

Edit for better deal http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045DN8EI/ref=ox_ya_os_product
So you can get the prime warranty for 99.99 and with the code it makes it 70 bucks! Which pretty much means you will get a 1 time replacement on your tablet! Because they will not stock the primes parts! Or be able to order them and fix your tablet in their 5 day window! Which means you get the full purchase price back (of your prime) even if it's a year after you bought it (around the time to buy a new tablet)
Also if you sell your prime you can transfer the warranty!
You can purchase the warranty up to 90 days after you bought it!
They cover shipping and have a 5 day fix or pay you the full value
This is great for anyone who plans on unlocking! And voiding their Asus warranty or for us who are really clumsy!
Just letting you guys know

Thanks for the info. I'll be using this to cover both of my Primes.
There is nothing preventing them from sending you a refurbished unit. I'm sure some folks may get a new one but I'm certain they will send the returned tablets off for repair and then warehouse them for the next customer.

i use squaretrade on every electronic i buy. they have twiced paid me in full for laptops they werent able to repair. Both over $1000. Directly paid to my paypal account (or check option). I think they are a great company and are pretty much hassle free. They even send you the box to send your laptop/electronics in. If its too big too ship, they'll come to house to do in-home eval/repair (TVs, etc.). I highly recommend them from my prior experiences....

I was thinking I could always Stock Rom and unroot, but that would not be possible if I spilled or cracked it.

Curious need some opinions... buy used or not to buy used?

As stated in title, I wanna buy a prime tablet from amazon but their prices are ridiculous at the moment. The only one close to the average 499$ price tag are the used ones.
With all the problems I've been reading about this tablet, I still feel drawn to testing my luck.
The main reason I want to use Amazon is for the "billmelater" option. March is a very heavy birthday filled month in my family so I wont have the actual cash till around may.... I don't want to wait until may.
Also, if i have to start with the sending back n forth process because of light bleeds, reboots, etc etc how is the process with Amazon.com? Is it a headache?
Thanks in advance for everyone's opinion on the matter. I want to make a purchase soon so it can come tomorrow hahaha I want to play with this tablet asap.
Why not just get it new at Officedepot.com? If you order now you will receive it by "Estimated Delivery Date: 02/10/2012." Just checked for you That's where I ordered my Prime. I have no issues whatsoever No wifi/BT fallouts. GPS works great!

If you buy a used prime at $499, your not looking hard enough. But if you really want a prime here is one at jr.com:
Asus Prime Jr.com
Or go to your local BestBuy and tell the sale's clerk you want place an "OMS order SKU: 4038674" theyll ask for a mode of payment and ask you if you want if you are picking up at the store or home delivery in about a week. Even if they are out of stock at BestBuy the "OMS" will check the one of the warehouse of Bestbuy and get you one.

Not sure what you're trying to say but it seemed like "if they are selling it this close to release...." which I agree that's why im extremely hesistant. But I don't understand why the Amazon prices are so incredibly high when they are supposed to be the cheaper online stores.

The reason is that those aren't being sold by Amazon, they're being sold by other companies THROUGH Amazon's storefront. They're basically what you would find if you went to eBay--third parties selling them at a premium because demand continues to outstrip supply.

Amazon doesn't control the prices for their third party vendors. Amazon just controls the prices where Amazon is the seller. As previous poster pointed out, other vendors use the Amazon storefront, which is the case here. When Amazon sells the Prime, Amazon prices it at $499.

Just to be perfectly clear, these higher-priced units are NOT being sold by Amazon, and Amazon is NOT setting the prices on them. They're being sold by 3rd parties at whatever price those 3rd parties want to sell for. Again, it's like eBay, only through Amazon's equivalent (pretty much anyone can sell things through Amazon).
When Amazon ITSELF has the Prime in stock, they sell it at the standard retail price ($499 for 32GB, $599 for 64GB).
