Hey guys,
I just received a message saying that there is a new software update?? When I selected it it said my phone has the latest update. Did anyone get this thing? Do you think se is going to push 2.3.5?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I got it as well and got the same messages as you. ie. I already have the latest software
Not here i flashed to stock to see it...
@ nanodroid
Are you using stock ROM and/or kernel?
IIRC I noticed this behaviour already on stock 2.1 on my and my wifes X10.

Yes, at the moment I am using stock 2.3 rom and kernel. the only thing I flashed was the audio fix and the fps fix. I don't think they can cause this behaviour..
I am quite surprised because I never had this thing,I received this kind of messages before on the older roms and updated it ota, as they used to do,but it is strange. that's why I thought they were trying to push 2.3.5 or a minor update..

What product code have you? I just checked with mine but it says no update available.
Well I just checked using pc companion and it said that there is not sw updates. Maybe an error on the server? I didn;t see anything on their site. I just saw they are releasing an 'Arc S' with cpu 1.4 and some 3d features...
the HTC email app and the Gmail are giving me problems.
when i open the Gmail app it begins to flicker and becomes unresponsive. the HTC email app just FCs every time i click what mail provider i'm going to use. also I've never tried to use the HTC email app until today because of Gmail acting up. my cache is cleared and I've never had any problem with any of the DERP themes until now. i had Tickle Pink but switched to DEEP PURPLE b/c i thought Tickle Pink was causing the problem.
please help me! i'm posting this here because of the theme & ROM(warm-deodex) i'm running on my phone. you can reply to me here or send me a PM. thank you in advance.
i also flashed the Rom again and it did nothing to fix the problem.
please help!
I'm assuming you are rooted? If so, either the rom itself or the themes could be to blame. What rom are you running/what rom did you re-flash? Did you flash the rom without the theme? Have you tried just flashing a stock rom?
of course i'm rooted . i have Warm TwoPointThree. most stock roms dont have good theme choices. i never had the issue with this ROM until yesterday.i have not done anything different.
yes i flashed the ROM first, i let it fully boot up & set up, and then flashed the theme. didnt work.

try doing the same thing but setting up the htc and gmail before you install the themes and see if they work.... i dont use that ROM but maybe there was an update even in the themes that may have caused an issue?
lol that's what i did with gmail when i had to flash it again...
i didnt bother with the mail app because i didnt think i would ever have to use it. now that i HAVE to it wont let me.
i'm running the updated theme, and i have the latest version of Warm, which was last updated in November.
do you have any other rom recommendations. also i have yet to upgrade to 2.17.651.5. i have CWM recovery is there a way for me to upgrade using that recovery?

for your sake id say flash the 2.17 RUU and let it install first to upgrade the software version....and no... you have to use that stock recovery for te upgrade... but do a backup and then the file recovery.img that is saved in the clockwork/backup folder is the CWM recovery and its easy to reflash through fastboot... then unlock and reinstall cwm again then reroot and then from there try to reinstall the rom.... i personally use different roms... i use boot manager pro and flash between the stock rom... CM9 ics version... and also steal 25 inbREDed 4.2 rom
that's gonna take a long while.
i've been wanting to switch from CWM to TWRP. are there any links you can recommend to help through the transition?
i like steal 25 inbREDed 4.2 rom it's just too dark for me.

i found this

Having the same issue with Gmail flickering. It's also been reported here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...on-keeps-trying-reload-screen-flickering.html
Apparently this issue is brand new and is affecting people across different kinds of phones.
I'm running Meanrom 2.7 with Anthrax RLS58 stable. Been running it for a couple of hours, no issues with gmail until about 10 minutes ago, and then it started flickering. We'll probably just have to wait for an update to fix it. Can any coders tinker around with it and come up with an idea as to why this is suddenly happening?
damn!!!
the HTC email client isn't working for me either. never had to use it until today and EVERY SINGLE TIME I OPEN IT.... IT FCs on me!

Hi, I saw your post in our theme thread too, but figured I would breifly respond here (please keep future theme discussion in our themes thread )
PLEASE provide a logcat of the FC in our theme thread, I will do what I can to fix it. It's ONLY on deep purple correct? You said it worked ok with pink?

/goes back to theme thread for your response and LOGCAT

Hey just an idea go ahead and flash your rom and then your theme like normal. Then flash gapps in theory you will be flashing the basic Google apps like email and play store unthemed versions over the themed ones. Seems to be an adequate solution for now. Hope it helps
****'ll Buff Out
A bit of a nooby question, but I've never come across it or had to do it before.
I know I could flash a custom ROM but nothing quite stands out just yet, waiting for S3 USA release. There should be a lot more action on the ROM side then.
But at the moment I'm on stock, rooted and woke up with an update on my phone yesterday. From what I've read there's 2 updates 1 after the other and 1's a new kernel. I'd rather not update and root again if there's a simple way of removing the update e.g. like say delete a file from somewhere. After all my phone's running 100% as is.
Anyone know the answer? Its bugging me now, you can only perspone it for 3 hours at a time.
If I don't get rid of it by tomorrow I'm going to reaserch if i can just update over a rooted stock ROM. Find out about the new kernel build make sure I can root after updating and reluctantly update.
Thanks in advance
Marc

Hi mate
I have the same problem and can't get rid of the OTA update available message, if you find a solution then please post.
Many thanks!!
download the 'update' from sammobile.com it's the LF2 rom, install with mobile odin and tell it to keep root.... problem solved
I just used titanium backup to delete the updater. Seems to be working fine for now.
hello all,
i have followed entropy512's thread here to get my at&t samsung galaxy s2 rooted with stock settings...i then wanted clockworkmod recovery so i went to this and followed directions to get everything installed...everything was ok and working until a few weeks ago when the 'Check Update' option under Setting stopped working...
basically what happens is when i goto Settings-> Software Update->Check for updates->Hit OK (Check the AT&T server for new software update?) a dialog comes up that says 'Checking for software updates...' and nothing happens...i have left the phone over night with device management app checking for software updates... when this used to work, it took less than 1 minute to check...
finally, the only way for me to stop this is to go and force stop Device Manager under Applications->All, so before i restore the phone to factory, i was wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue here?
Thanks,
FI

umm this option was working until a few weeks ago and it randomly stopped so im not sure what rooting has to do with it...furthermore, i did search using various permutations of words around the issue at hand, and i did not find threads that addressed this issue...

Being rooted you shouldn't even worry about updates, if you had actually searched you would have seen that

OTA updates require factory recovery. I'm a bit hazy on the details but I believe CWM, in short, replaces that.
It might also be because you either turned off/uninstalled or inadvertently removed factory bloatware.

This. Amongst other things. If u insist on trying to eventually upgrade to whatever crap gets pushed out to us yer best bet is to do a full wipe to completely stock firmware.

once again, the issue is not weather i should worry about updates or not nor did i search for if i should worry about updates...this option was working and something happened that caused it to stop working...and my searches i did was around getting device management to connect to the dm server (which is where the 'Checking for update' got stuck)

both of you seem to be spot on...i didnt realize that removing bloatware which was marked as 'ok to remove' on the document of things to remove safely could have been the issue...initially i had frozen them using titanium...neway i restored the phone using the CWM backup i had and the option started working like expected...thanks for the input
I'm curious...why do you want that option to work?

Do you recall all the issues with UCKK6 Gingerbread? That was an AT&T release. The devs had to tear it apart to debug and try to fix it. Any build will have bugs in it. But generally, custom firmwares will have fewer bugs than AT&T firmware.

if my research that i conducted a while ago is right, then basically samsung has implemented a flash counter which increments each time you flash a custom, non-stock rom...it might also be applied to non-stock kernels/firmwares as well (im not too sure)...so to prevent the flash counter from ever incrementing, ill need to put the phone in download mode using the jig and continue from there...

This is wrong. It is only incremented when you use ODIN to flash nonstock items. CWM has no bearing on flash counters.

You have some bad information...but I have some good news for you.
The flash counter only counts the number of times you've flashed a custom kernel in download mode via Odin. Using CWM to flash anything can't touch the flash counter. Same goes for Mobile Odin. I've been rooted and flashing for months, I don't have a jig, and my counter is still at zero.
EDIT: Ninja'd by a pirate!

Any GB issues only surfaced if you updated to 2.3.6. 2.3.4 for a "stock" firmware was pretty awesome. I'm on the latest ICS leak from ATT (LD4) and aside from the emmc bug (I'm using a safe kernel so I don't have it) IMHO its more complete then CM9 was. I stopped using CM9 at the end of May and don't miss it at all now.

I reccomend roms that use i9100 bases as they are usually better, roms like phonebricker, and shostock2 are good, my favorite touchwiz based rom though is serendipity 9. But thats my experiences so try them for yourself (i use aokp as my daily though.)

How are your data speeds? Mine are still slower than stock 2.3.6.
Telus Galaxy Note i717D
Hi,
I got a message there was an update. I said yup install because I figured it was ICS. Waited 2 hours and it was still saying starting applications or something like that, did a power off because I thought it was stuck.
Now the phone just pulses the Samsung logo.
Kies will not see it. I should have used Kies in the first place.
Now Odin does see the phone, so I thought maybe I should just flash it with a stock ICS or Gingerbread ROM. Been searching for hours to find a stock
ROM for the I717D - Telus phone.
Can anyone help me with a stock ROM file so I can avoid returning this thing
and spending more time on it. So frustrating.
Thanks,
W

Hi,
Yes I had seen that post but read the one user had a bunch of Questions after so I kept searching for a happy camper.
I flashed using that ROM and now I go into Kies and I get:
"Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies."
Current firmware version: PDA:LA2 / PHONE:LF4 / CSC:LA2 (TLS)
Any ideas why? I thought stock ROM would allow Kies to still function for updates.
