[Q] Is This Phone Worth It? - HTC EVO 3D

Hey guys, I'm considering buying this phone but I'd just like to know if there are any outstanding issues or problems you've noticed?
I'm coming from the galaxy s2 (epic touch 4g the sprint version) and while it was a great phone, the GPS on it was absolutely atrocious and until recently it was plagued by a huge loss of signal problem.
If you wouldn't mind, could you compare the s2 and the evo3d for me a bit?
I really appreciate any help!
EDIT: Just a few questions I have off the bat:
Will the evo3d receive the ice cream sandwich update?
How is the overall quality of the phone?
Is battery life at least reasonable, can it get me through the day on light/moderate use?
How is the Sense UI?
Forgive me for asking such basic questions, I'm kind of new to the smartphone world but my friend is a rabid HTC fan and I've always thought they had pretty good design, but have heard the sense ui can be a bit of a drain.

Will the evo3d receive the ice cream sandwich update?
It is in the works. Thought the most recent update would have been it, but it was a removal of CIQ mostly > TrevE, you're the man.
How is the overall quality of the phone?
Nice build. From my experience with Samsung phones, the overall build is flimsy compared to HTC. HTC just seems way more durable, at least to me.
Is battery life at least reasonable, can it get me through the day on light/moderate use?
With any smart phone your gonna take some battery life HP (hit points if your not a nerd) but overall it's good battery life. It all depends on the ROM and kernel you choose though, some don't play nice.
How is the Sense UI?
I personally haven't really given a ish about Sense UI since day one. I make my ROM senseless and use ADW Launcher EX. But If you want to make comparisons, Sense UI is one of the best stock UI's out there IMO.
I've never owned a Samsung phone so I can't truly say how the HTC EVO 3D compares to the Galaxy S2. But from my experience with this phone, it's well worth the purchase. Plus since you're on Sprint, if you don't like it, you can make a return or exchange in 30 days.

Sprints return policy is only 14 days, you get a full refund on returns, if you want to exchange for another phone there is a $ 35 restocking fee.

We got 2 Evo 3D's in June and no issues or complaints so far.

I would take the E4GT over the 3VO, but I like HTC's build quality and dev support. I would just stick with the E4GT until the LTE devices begin rolling out.

If you really care about gps then yes if not id get galaxy nexus when it comes to sprint

LTE plus quad core HTC I *think* is coming as next evo q2 2012 - wait and watch updates from MWC 2012

This week the Evo 3D was available for 269€ in Germany.
Definitely worth it

It's still available here in Slovakia. That's why I bought it.
Odoslané z môjho HTC EVO 3D X515m cez Tapatalk

I've used a friend's ET4G so that should help me with answering these questions.
Will the evo3d receive the ice cream sandwich update?
The Evo 3D will be receiving the official Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update in "Q1," which will probably be march/may. You can install an ICS ROM which will probably have stable builds sometime in february/march.
How is the overall quality of the phone?
Compared to the ET4G, it's definitely better. It feels nice and solid while holding it, not plasticky. The quality of the phone is overall amazing. The only bad thing is the screen which doesn't have sharp colors like the ET4G.
Is battery life at least reasonable, can it get me through the day on light/moderate use?
IDK about the battery life on the ET4G, but it definitely gets me through the day without having to plug it in until night. I can tell you that it is a HUGE improvement from the Evo 4G. If you only use the screen for about 2-3 hours a day without heavy activities like games, videos, etc., you should be able to last a day without needing a recharge. Some custom ROMs that you can install will also give noticeable improvements to battery life.
If you want the best battery life, install an AOSP ROM like Cyanogenmod or an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.
How is the Sense UI?
It really matters. If you like AOSP (Stock android, like on the nexus S 4G), the ET4G UI is probably much better and for you. If you don't like the ET4G UI, you'll probably like Sense. It's a really different UI which you have to experience to know.
Additional notes
Overall, I'd still stick with the ET4G if I were you. The signal isn't much better on the 3D (1 bar vs 4 bars compared to evo 4G), but the GPS is amazing. I can tell you, that, after using my friend's ET4G, I'd much rather have that than the Evo 3D if the development community there was bigger.
Pros of switching over:
-bigger community
-solid design
-good GPS
-signal might be a little better
-more
Cons:
-loss of amoled screen
-loss of 4.65" screen
-more

Installing new ROMs and firmware is much different than samsung, so read the HTC Unlock sticky and its first 3 replies if you want to know how to flash ROMs.

Everyone, thank you so much for your thoughtful posts! I can't tell you how much this has helped me make my decision...I am going to get this phone
Maybe I will put cyanogenmod on it, I have never done anything like this before but we will see!

I'm one of the many guys coming from the evo4g to the 3d, I have had my 3d for a little over a month now. I will say that it feels vastly superior to the 4g off the bat. Much faster with the dualcore, and I feel it has a better overall design. I realize you are coming from the epic 4g touch. I think you will find the 3vo a great phone, its fast and smooth, has a decent amount of development now, and has some great overall features. The camera button is really cool, and while I first though the 3d capability was a gimmick I'm finding it to be very cool. I enjoy watching 3d videos on youtube/etc and playing 3d games. also recently my gf got a 3vo and we like to send 3d pics to each other. Sense is great, I know a lot of people hate on it and that used to be me, but I have seen them make great strides since way back when with my evo4g and do think it provides a delightful user experience.

Where? Lowest price I've found is 299€

The battery life on the EVO 3D with the latest 651.5 build has been awesome. The build quality with HTC phones has always been superior to Samsung IMO. It seems like Samsung can never get their gps issues ironed out. It was a problem with my old moment and it seems like its still a problem for them with the newer phones. Personally i would hold off on getting a new phone until the LTE phones are released but if you can't wait the the 3D is a good choice. The pic shows battery stats with light to moderate usage. Stock battery on latest stock rooted build.

"Media Markt" and "Saturn" had it for 269 €.

The most persistent issue I've seen come into the store with the 3D is screen issues... where it ghost touches things without you doing anything.
But I personally have the phone and never experienced this problem.

Why did you get the EVO 3D and which phone you came from

Knowing a lot people here and some.new, while we wait for root I would like to.know what phone you guys have? And why choose the EVO 3D ?
I had the EVO and thundebolt ( okay a lot with phones , I owned and epic , nexus s , and iPhone 4 )
I wasn't sure to get this phone but my EVO screen broke and i didn't have my insurance no more ( took it off last month ) and sprint didn't want to replace it cause it was bigger then an inch, a supervisor.and a person from canceling deparment moved my upgrade from January 2012 to this month so i got it and so far is good no problems just waiting for root but the phone is really good so I don't.miss root as much, what's your story ?

Damn...I thought this was an old thread bc I'm.pretty sure there is one with a very similiar title and topic ..anyways my name is Rob and I had an EVO 4G and now an EVO 3d ...
I had the samsung moment. Need I say more?
To add to the story though, I talked about this phone from the first announcement until release date and the wifey got really annoyed. Picked up the phone on release date and brought it home that evening at which point she spent 5 minutes with it and asked if she could replace her htc hero with the e3d. I then called up the sprint store to make sure they had some. luckily they had one left so we immediately went over and picked it up.

Oh man, sorry you had to go though that. Some moments over-stay their welcome.
I had the OG EVO & I bought the EVO 3D because I wanted better graphics, power, the camera button, to flaunt the newness + 3D & 3 cameras, the QHD resolution, Official Sense 3.0 + eventual Ice Cream Sandwich (to feed my "must have latest w/ cake" bug) & another HTC made handset.

I can only imagine having a hero and playing with a e3d ..I'd wanna throw it out the window ..that's a big jump..the hero drove me crazy even when it was one of the better offerings at the time..I think the 3d has tons of potential and will be even more of a speed demon
I came from a iPhone 3gs and At&t (when the iPhone was dominant). once my contract was up I left At&t and went to Sprint again with my sister and got the EVO 3d. Its not a major improvement to my sisters rooted EVO but it sure is to my old iPhone. I mean this thing has flash and I can actually makes calls with it . I can't wait until I get to flash some Roms on this bad boy.

Yeah the app store was the only thing holding me back but at least they have some good games like Plants VS Zombies and Nova 2 at the Market, I even have double Twist as my default music player. I knew that you could customize android but its pretty amazing how customizable it really is, from different launchers to different widgets. It's all better than the iPhone.

Repost:
I started with the original palm pre two years ago.
I absolutely adored the OS, and still do, especially when filecoaster first appeared and the homebrew scene really took off.
Android was still in its infancy back then and the iPhone never held too much appeal for me, especially since I'm big on real keyboards and actual tactility.
Blackberry was a no go for me, windows mobile natch.
So I switched carriers to Sprint from Verizon and to the palm pre from the LG enV.. I swear that dumbphone still has one of the best keyboards I've ever used!
I love the navigational and UI metaphors of webOS. I love the intuitiveness and simplicity of the gestures.
Love the notification system and ability to see and use then even while the screen is locked. I also love the status/menu bar up top, giving you quick access to system/app options.
Really just a pleasure to use.
The customizability of the OS is phenomonal and the loosely centralized nature of the homebrew community with webOS internal serving as the main pillar. Preware is unmatched in the mobile homebrew landscape. Nothing comes close.
That being said, HP/palm gave us early adopters a thorough shafting and with no pre3 in sight for Sprint, I used my upgrade to move on to the HTC EVO 3d after my umpteenth pre- went the way of the dodo.
It's a wonderful piece of hardware and while I may not necessarily find Android to be the in the same class as best of breed OS that is webOS, the superior hardware options on Sprint all lead to Android.
Wp7 is still nascent and while it is somewhat attractive and interesting, the phones currently available haven't really caught my eye and again, my timetable for choosing a new phone was limited so i couldn't afford to wait til fall for a wp7 mango handset refresh.
I'm very satisfied with my 3vo and am pleased to not suffer from the same issues seemingly plaguing a very vocal portion of 3vo owners.
If the Motorola photon launches within my 30 day window, I may look into it as I originally had my eyes set on that piece of tech but my underestimation of the 3vo has been wildly exceeded.

I usually upgrade phones more frequently than the average user, but I had the Evo for the longest that I've stayed with a phone in years. The Evo 4G really was, and still is, and amazing phone. If it were not for the 3D, then I would still be happily rocking the Evo 4G. My top 3 reasons for going with the 3D was for the processor, screen resolution, and more RAM. While the 3D feature was intriguing, I really didnt expect it to work all that great. I must say that I was really blown away after watching a couple youtube videos in 3D and then watching The Green Hornet. The images really do come out away from the screen further than some tv's do.

I love the rezound it is an awesome phone. If you like androids you will love it. My wife just switched to a rezound from an iphone 4 and she loves it. I upgraded from an evo 3d and it is a way better phone.
I've been with android since the very beginning with the G1 and the REZOUND is without a doubt the best phone I have ever owned. Not only is it the most powerful phone currently on the market it but it has great battery life that can easily get me through a full day of medium usage. The phone is even better now that HTC has unlocked the bootloader and a ton of ROMS have been released by developers. Plus, an early ICS build has been released which could lead to a stable ICS release in the coming weeks so overall I couldn't be any happier with this phone!
Yes, best there is right now. I switched from android to the iphone and now "I'm back in the saddle again."
Thanks for the feed back. I'm still researching this phone but I am stoked about getting an Android phone again. I was a luanch customer on the EVO 4G and then switched to Verizon on the Thunderbolt. I got a fancey stereo for my car and of course it was iPhone ready so to get all the goodies my new stereo would do I switch to an IPhone. I have decided the iPhone is just not worth having for my car stereo so back to Android I go.
I have a Nook Color and a HP Touchpro (running android of course) so yea...Im and Android junky and a flashaholic!!!

No, you're not making a mistake. Yes, the Rezound is the right choice!
The screen is gorgeous. There's a bit of an issue with color/tint in taking pics but the clarity and sharpness is amazing. Text is clear and crisp.
The dev section is going crazy since HTC unlocked it and now there's an ICS leak that people are working on.
Personally I like Sense a lot but there are ROMs without it available.
4g.
16gb internal and 16gb external removable sd card which can be upgraded to a 64gb card and confirmed working. That's an 80gb phone!
Wirefly currently has this phone at $99.99 for new contract or additional line.
I love it. If you like Android I'm sure you will too.
from the OG droid to a dx to the rezound it is by FAR the best phone I've owned. I've also had a chance to use/test drive a gnex and razr and i can honestly say that i don't have ONE bit of regret getting the rezound over those two. In after thought it was really a no brainer actually.

I asked this same question when I got rid of my DX2. I have never been happier with a phone ever. I love this thing more than I loved my OG Droid, and I nearly cried when I got rid of that. This phone is beyond amazing, and with all the new work on ICS that's coming up, you're jumping in at the perfect time.
another positive review
I too came from a x2, and was also an OG early adopter.
This phone kicks ass! The screen is unbelievable, the dev possibilities are endless, the beats makes a BIG difference on the audio! I was just getting into modding my x2...and once I (finally) learn my way around this one, the sky's the limit!
RUN , don't walk, to Verizon and sign on the dotted line! Lol
If price is an object, then yes, the Rezound is great for the price.
If price is not of concern, I don't see why you would not go with the Galaxy Nexus.
I don't think the Rezound is bad, but turning down consistent updating from Google, more after market customization and less difficulty rooting or doing any custom ROM, the galaxy nexus is Verizon's Best Phone, bar none.
That being said, go with what you like the best. Try them out, and go with what you like the most.

Because the galaxy nexus has the worst antenna issues I have ever experienced. Screen is pentile amoled that gives it a nasty blue tint. People have been reporting burn in on the screen. Need I go on?

It's a great phone with a few quirks:
Many are plagued with overheating issues, my first one was but my second works fine.
The design of the screen allows the LEDs to shine up from the bottom and annoys some but I don't notice it often unless I'm watching video in the dark. This can be solved by installing screen filter and turning off the LEDs.
Stock battery sucks if you're a heavy user and on stock ROM or kernel. Development is just getting going and it's getting better.
Color balance of camera is off, most of the time you need to keep it on incandescent to get accurate pictures.
All the above are quirks and you can get over however the main problem is the audio hissing/whining/feedback when headphones are plugged in. Ironic that a beats phone has music issues lol.
Speaking of beats its a gimmick and I find equalizer (the app) does a much better job for a variety of music.
Pros are the following:
Amazing screen and full HD videos on it look amazing. High ppi ftw! Plus it is a full rgb display and not pentile like the razr.
Sense integration, love it or hate it. I don't love it but I really like it and because the hardware is so good it isn't laggy at all and love the contact and widgets.
While not the thinnest phone it feels really great in the hand. Ergonomically speaking much nicer to hold and pocket than the razr for comparison.
ISC should be coming soon as rezound is part of first release update. I think sometime in February.
Lock screen shortcuts (because of sense 3.5) are really handy
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Stop the lies in here about the Nexus......the Rezound is a nice phone.....that's it. It is NOT a superior device. Its the same old phone HTC has been selling for years with a dual core and over packed PPI. The most bloated UI of any phone and I read a earlier post about the "most powerful handset on the market"..????....seriously? Where are these specs at? This is terribly misleading information that is OPINION. This is one of many DECENT phones on the market.

tbh, I would stick with the GNEX. I have a GNEX and Rezound on my account, along with other phones, and while I like my rezound, I find the GNEX more desirable for my likes. AOKP and AOSP on the GNEX being the most desirable to me. Both phones function well though, but the development for the GNEX is far larger in scale.
Plus, and this may just be luck, but I just sent in for my 2nd replacement phone for the Rezound. My son has yet to return his GNEX.

ill trade ya lol rezound doesnt fill my AOSP needs...

tbh, I would stick with the GNEX.

It really all depends, I know someone who went through 4 Gnex's before getting a totally different phone. Every phone has it's issues, and a group of lemons.
And with that being said, with upcoming plans for s-off and AOSP development for the Rezound, I'd say it's gonna be just as good, if not better.
hardware and screen is too sooky for me to trade but IMO its a Great idea to trade it.

I own the rezound and it's a good device, but i would like get a galaxy nexus

I hear you, and thats why I said it might have been luck, but I'm only commenting on my own personal experience with the two phones. As for AOKP and AOSP, I hope it does become a "stable" reality for the Rezound, but until I see it, I really can't mention it as a plus for the rezound.

I love my rezound but I would consider giving it up for a nexus but the only thing that sways me toward the nexus is ics and screen size...BUT the rez will eventually get an cm9 build functioning and will fit all my needs

This is with the 2750mah ext batt, testing the standard 1620mah today... Rom/Setup from my sig.

Almost 3 hrs screen on, with about 9 hrs of music... Other regular use.

And I too, want both devices, mainly for AOSP support and the fact that it's a "Nexus". But with the HTC One X and SGS3 on the horizon, it's gonna be a tough choice.

Well I had the Rezound, returned for Gnex and now I'm trading it again for a Rezound,so I'll break it down like a few others said in the the thread
Gnex= Pure google experience, unlocked and root ready
Rezound=music lovers,different Rom variety,sense UI lovers
Had a GNex for a week, traded it in for a Rezound. Issues for me were mostly poor 3G/4G reception (and I tried every radio out there) and crappy battery life. Extended battery cleared that issue up, but it was quite bulky. Lovin' my Rezound.
Rezound is the better phone.
Better screen(gnex has screen burn in).
Removable storage
Better reception
Doesn't drop data connection like gnex
Better camera by far front and back
Beats audio with matching ear buds.
Better hardware. T.I Omap CPU is crap
Soon to have s-off so aosp is near
Owned both and rezound is just a better phone imo

Better screen(gnex has screen burn in). -(opinion; I like the GN screen better)
Removable storage -(I've never had to remove my sd from any of my previous phones)
Better reception -(possibly, but I never drop calls and I always have a signal)
Doesn't drop data connection like gnex -(My GN has NEVER dropped data)
Better camera by far front and back -(both cameras are comparable)
Taken with my Nexus

I do own both phones. I like both and I'm not bashing the Rez, but I still prefer my GN. The main thing I hate on my Rezound (besides the obvious gripes) is the pink softkeys. It's embarrassing lol.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Rezound is unequivocally the better phone. Stock Android is unequivocally the better UI. Take your pick I guess. The screen and camera are dealbreakers for me with the Nexus. That camera is embarrassing for a flagship phone.
The screen factor isn't a matter of opinion, the rezound hands down has the better screen, same exact resolution, higher pixel density... it's proven. All other factors are pretty much a matter of opinion though, 5mp v 8mp, Snapdragon S3 v TI OMAP, screen size, etc. It's all personal preference. Personally I'd take both of them, but I'm happy with my rezound for now. Really wouldn't mind the One X or the SGS3 though.
And if we'd have seen both of these phones drop with ICS on them outta the box, just one with AOSP and one with Sense 3.6, the game woulda been different from the start.
Personally I think Samsung and HTC need to work together on the next Nexus phone, HTC design, Samsung internals, Google software. Call it the Google Nexus Galaxy One.
I have to agree the camera is horrible and to even say they are comparable is silly. The gnex takes ok pics in good lighting. Rezoubd takes good pics in most conditions. Not great but a lot better than the gnex.

Good Stuff
Fantastic build quality
Gorgeous display
Really fast, smooth performance
Bad Stuff
Sprint's LTE network isn't ready yet
Mediocre battery life
Sense is still too intrusive
..
Head here for whole review...
www.theverge.com/2012/5/11/3012990/htc-evo-4g-lte-review
Engagdet and TheVerge have both had just terrible reviews of this phone (The review quality being the terrible part)
I understand that because it's a variant of a previously released phone they aren't as excited about it, but both of the ones I've read feel rushed and provide no real information.
these review sites are trash. they get the phone for 2 days and pump out all the reasons its bad, but the truth is they dont know how to use the phone or android.
Yup. I never trust those sites for phone reviews. They know nothing about phones

The lack of an LTE network is an interesting con about the phone. Even without LTE/4G capabilities this phone is still really dope! I'm certainly not buying it for the network. As far as complaints about Sense, well that's what you get when you purchase an HTC phone- if you don't like Sense, install a custom ROM or stay away from HTC. The battery life complaints are shocking to me- I can't imagine it being that bad. With improvements in power management or ICS, the S4 processor, and Sense 4.0 it seems bizarre that battery life could be only mediocre considering I had excellent battery life on my E3D.
Anyhoo, as always I take these reviews with a grain of salt because there is only one review that really matters- mine.
How can they say Sense is still too intrusive as a con?..IMHO if you buy an HTC phone you kind of know what you are getting into...Get over your complex and buy a stinking nexus device..

Agreed! plus most HTC phones such as the EVO line get AOSP builds that work just as well as the builds ran on nexus phones. So in the end you can have sense for those who prefer, or you can have AOSP for those who prefer that. Non-HTC phones can almost never get a sense build to play with. Having the option is what makes htc phones ideal for me. Especially considering having that same option when it comes to samsung phones with touchwiz is not appealing to me at all. Basically a samsung phone with TW is junk until stable aosp arrives.
typical ATT/Apple nuthugging websites.
Sense intrusive? HA! They toned it down in my opinion. Got rid of the huge round dock, Background for the flipclock, and most of Sense 4.0 looks useful and intuitive.

Yup they own iphones. They don't understand
There are two threads on this same review, they should probably be consolidated IMHO. We should probably have a one stop thread for all reviews.
That said I will never get people who complain about Sense and buy HTC phones. I have never owned a Samsung Android phone because I just quite frankly don't like the look of TW. So if I didn't like Sense I would never buy an HTC phone just to turn around and complain about it. Quite frankly with the exception of the Nexus line there isn't a single high end Android phone that doesn't use a skin of some sort. I get there is always the possibility of putting aosp on it but if you're going to spend your money on a device you should be buying it for what it offers and is capable of rather than what you could potentially remove and replace it with. I use aosp roms like cm and even miui once in a while cause they offer unique features but when it comes down to it when buying an HTC phone Sense offers the most complete experience especially since as history has proven aosp based roms always end up missing some of the features of the phone. Sure we may not use them all the time but it's nice to know sometimes if I run a Sense rom I could use all the functionality of my phone. I've been using Sense since it was called Manilla on WM devices. They've always kept a general design language in which I personally liked and Sense 4 is probably their biggest departure while still keeping some of that basic design intact. Trying both Sense 3.6 and 4.0 I can appreciate the subtle changes in 3.6 if you were running a Sense 3.0 or 3.5 rom blending both those version of Sense with ICS features. However there is just something subtle about the way Sense 4.0 looks and performs that going back just doesn't feel the same. Although I do think they should've kept quick settings in the notification dropdown, but thats just my opinion. Sorry for the rant.
I have two words for the complaint about battery life - JUICE DEFENDER.
Here's another review that I haven't seen posted on here yet (from PC World):
http://www.pcworld.com/article/255517/htc_evo_4g_lte_review_gorgeous_but_no_lte_for_now.html
Overall pretty positive review, although the lack of LTE is really killing the vibe on all of these reviews. Without that stumbling block, I think I'd be reading more "iPhone killer" and "best Android phone available" phrases scattered about. As it stands, they make the phone seem rather pedestrian instead of game-changing. To me, if the One X is a game-changer as many reviews claim it to be, this MUST be even more so.
Edit: Here's another review.
http://androidcommunity.com/htc-evo-4g-lte-review-20120511/
the engadget review to me praised it really good and even hte battery scored high was just they werent sure how it would be with LTE on
I wonder why HTC never changed the look of the battery is been the same since the evo 4G. Is not gonna change how goof the phone is but just wondering. Also I think the phone is a solid 8-9 only cause of sprints network is really bad in some cities for me is a hit or miss
these reviewers are IDIOTS
I love how they say the SENSE is too intrusive but then they all have said at some given time the love the WIDGETS CONTACT UI, DIALER, FRIENDSTREAM.. ETC.. You idiots thats SENSE..
And for "lack of better words.... It doesn't make any "SENSE" to say you love every little aspect of something and then say its a bad thing that the gave it to you. its like saying "thanks for buying me a car a house a boat" etc then turning around and saying "I hate you for buying me so much stuff" it makes no sense
it's really way too early to say the battery life is bad
the ATT version lasts 30 hours and has LTE forced on and a smaller battery
Probably a software/radio bug that will get patched soon just like the ATT version
The BEST mobile phone review site is Anandtech, no one else does things like actually MEASURE the brightness of a display
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5310/samsung-galaxy-nexus-ice-cream-sandwich-review/11
or MEASURE how loud a speaker phone is
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5310/samsung-galaxy-nexus-ice-cream-sandwich-review/13
stuff that actually matters not "sense is annoying"

So there are 2 "Verge Review" threads??....if so shoot me a pm with the link to the other one and I'll lock which ever one was created second...Thought I already locked/deleted the 2nd one on this topic though....
in the end if you guys ever want/feel anything should be consolidated or moved/locked there is this fancy feature here called the "Report Button" that works magic....it actually notifies us Mod's when you want something done...we dont have time to run through every thread reading every comment so use the feature...amazing stuff....
While I agree it would be nice to have a one stop shop review thread, there likely won't be one less someone is committed to starting one and keeping it updated over the course of time no matter what...regardless though, the multiple review threads will cease here shortly after the device is released and all anyway...

HTC ONE X camera not all that great

I know everybody wants to switch to a new phone, and one of the reasons is the newest htc camera is so much better than anything else...or is it? Maybe waiting one more generation is the way to go.....http://www.gsmarena.com/pureview_blind_test-review-773.php
This thread says otherwise
well of course it does, they all own the phone and they are coming from older phones. Fact is no one in the 1000 people sampled could pick out the htc photos. Well maybe thats a good thing?
There is alot more to a smartphone than its camera, the evo 3d is the exception because 3d is the headline feature.....point being HTC has designed a good phone (albeit with a few niggles for a selected bunch of models), The camera is the cherry on the cake, now people can decide if they want the whole experience i.e. the cake, or just the cherry i.e. the standout feature from the proverbial or literal sh**

That might not be true, actually cell phones are so much alike that one phone having a much better camera than the others might turn out to be it's biggest feature. At any given moment there might be almost as many people taking pictures with a cell phone as there are making a call, heck a lot of people just text or use it for web surfing.
I think the real question here is, what camera would meet YOUR standards? There are a lot of people out there who say the camera is raising the bar, and obviously, you're a skeptic. Am I right?

I would love to have the lte\one x camera on my evo3d, i'm not that great at taking pictures and would like to get better. I just like to read and found the camera comparison to be quite interesting. Maybe I should have said camera great but not the greatest? Let me add one thing, is there anyone who wouldn't want this camera on their next phone? And i mean camera only. That would be raising the bar by a huge amount.

Thats not exactly what I mean.... You don't buy the phone JUST based on the camera alone... Its the whole package.... The one x camera is great, but in these tests all the settings have to be equal and thats a user oriented thing as to how each individuals perception of a good quality image is, there are too many variables.
IMO HTCs camera settings have never been the best straight out the box... My desire hd had that issue and the same with the evo 3d, but then its to my taste and everyone's is different, unless the image is just **** lol

But, you do realize that the One Series and the EVO 4G LTE were both completed by design and announced before official rumors of the S3 was complete. So, of course Samsung would 1up the competition. It's just like if a new phone is announced later in the year, it's obviously gonna have better specs than one that was designed before.
And HTC definitely didn't lose their ass with this new phone (Especially the EVO 4G LTE). The One series is a step in the right direction for the company. No more quantity over quality. They're taking things down the right road this time.

What I meant by lost their ass is by pitching a huge marketing campaign based on the power of their new cameras and than they get beat out.
I stumbled on this post searching for something. What a dumb post. Just delete his whole thread. I myself am.dumber for reading it. Camera quality is subjective when quality is this good. No one is using a phone to take aerial photos of property to show off. HTC has a hit. S3 is good but another same looking samsung phone. What innovation there. I am a big Samsung fan but S3 is a disappointment on looks and design for its exterior.

Sorry you didn't like the article, i thought it was interesting to see a phone have a camera that good and somewhat surprised to see the htc phone rated that low. The phone was a hit at the last show because of the camera, they rated it a top 5 show item. I would think these people are more knowledgeable in the phone technology area, they certainly are smarter than mehttp://www.engadget.com/2012/06/18/nokia-808-pureview-united-states/ I did also see that engadget has their review up for the S3 and they say the S3 camera, except for a faster shutter, is not much better than the S2. They also say the camera is about the same as the htc camera. So while that makes the cameras both pretty good I guess they are not a huge leap forward.http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/20/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-review-shootout-atandt-vs-sprint/

Nice picture, no doubt, but if htc took the time to install a 3d camera on last years flagship phone, maybe a year from now they could install something similar to the nokia's camera and have something that is actually a "huge" improvement. We are now shown the technology is there and is being used and mass produced.
