I tested this with different phones, when i speak into my GS2 it sounds fine to the person on the other end of the call, but when they speak, their voice sounds like a weird robotic echo-ey sound... this can't possibly be normal... it's the most annoying thing ever.. anyone know how i can fix this... i bought my phone used and don't have a warranty for it..
i recorded my voice with the voice recorder app and it sounded fine on playback, problem seems to be only during calls..

Read of similar problems on other threads that where caused by rudder cases. You could also flash a ROM with noise reduction option or root and flash the zip fix.

"You could also flash a ROM with noise reduction option or root and flash the zip fix."
not sure what flashing a ROM, or root and flash a zip fix means...
So youre ready to through yourself right into the deep end then
Might be a good idea to read up on why and how to root and also what is an EFS backup and why its needed.Rooting is easy but always good to know whats going to happen when you do what your about to do.First you need to root your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
then via CWM you can flash a ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290
But its a good idea to make an EFS backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
You can flash a according to your firmware which you might have to change to suit.My ROM has noise reduction on/off option but some ROMs like CheckROM have it off by default.Read all the links I posted and more. The last thing you want to do is dive in head first without informing yourself and bricking your phone. For anything you can send me a PM I you want or via this thread but first read up

This is exactly what happens to me!!!
I suddenly start sounding muffled...
when my wife goes out of town...
and I go on a drinking rampage.
But then she comes back, and everything is back to normal.
Sorry OP, for makign a joke here. Yeah like others said, try factory reset and then restore factory firmware.
Some ppl claim that this happens when u r using a case cover blocking the mic for noise reduction. Try using it without and see if this solves the problem!!
Hope this helps!!

With the phone itself. It seems to be a certain location your mouth is to the mic just causes muffled sound. And the noise cancellation seems to be part of the issue, doesn't work correctly. So turning it off sometimes helps.
well i called O2, and they are swapping me a brand new one tomorrow, as i have had one month!, ordered on 25th May and called yesterday being 25th June.
they are bring me one to my house - that is service!
i did try flashing stock rom, but no difference, tested my mates and his sounds fine, pretty sure there is an issue. oh well a new one will do!
Hi!
Since it became impossible to talk to me and everyone is saying me that they hear themself in speaker when they talk to me and it distracts, I need someone to help me.. I have kk5 but it all worked well before, is there some option or setting which may cause that?
Thank you!
i think its a modem issue try different one
For me, I found it was my rubber case causing it. Take off the case
and the problem disappears. It must hinder the mics in a way to cause the echo.

Its called an echo. Its a common issue on the S2.
2 solutions:
1) Remove your case, or
2) When in a call press menu and turn noise reduction off. Alternatively, if you are rooted you can install a custom rom (or phone mod) like checkrom which has it set to off by default. But you need to flash the nr phone mod from the kitchen app for it to be off.

Alternatively, look at this thread.
I had this same echo w/a case on, and lived with it by modding my phone to default NR off.
Once I did the phone surgery detailed in the above thread, the echo disappeared, and I went back to my original phone with NR turned on.
Does anyone here encounter a quiet hiss sound going on at low volume? (Just go up one notch in volume and play your music). It's very noticeable in softer songs for example a solo piano just being played or a guitar. But it is well heard throughout the overall audio.
You can only hear it when the audio starts, once it's paused the sound will go away.
I was wondering if my phone is a bad batch.
Thanks

I have exactly the same! And it's worse when using the original headphones. However, I don't know if this is normal, as I have exactly the same question!
Try poweramp from market.use it for 5 min then go back to stock player and see if problem is still there
It's way more noticeable on poweramp. And it happens through out all audio playback, videos, youtubes. you name it.
I had some similar issues and with poweramp it disappeared.

Could u try BT. If the problem disappear when using BT. Then it's your jack(well i think that anyway but just to be sure) and u should get an replacement from the store.
Otherwise try to change your kernel or firmware if you are on le8 or older firmware

I'm sorry, I don't have a BT set. Tried several headphones, and with some the noise is better audible. However, I also plugged them in into my iPod (from 2006) and I can hear some noise there as well.
Furthermore, you also hear the noise when you're not playing any music, but when you just touch a capacitive touch. You'll hear the noise for 4 - 5 seconds, and then it disappears... You don't hear this on your phone?

No, clear as a bell. But i had several problems on firmware LE8. go to settings and about phone. To see what firmware(fw) your on. As i said le8 and earlier is "crap".
Check kies for FW updates. I reckon from your answers u don't know how to change(flash) new fw. So i won't suggest that.
But if u want to learn then read the stickies(top threads) in development section.

Old and crappy.. try open kies on your PC and see if there's is an update should be LFB.
i think that will solve your problem.
I can only hear it when the audio is being played, if paused it goes away. As for my firmware (build number?) its i747MVLALE8 and the date on the kernel version goes back to may 23 O_O.

Yes it will.do have cwm(clockworkmod) if u do upgrading is much easier.just find one rom u like and read the OP on how to flash. If in doubt then pm me or post here and I'll tell u how to.
Ps. If u flashed cf-root u got cwm. To check, turn off. Then press vol. Up,home button and power simultaneously and release after 3 sek. If there is an advanced option then it's cwm.
Pps.it's only the last 3 letters in buildnr,in your case it's LE8

I haven't tried to update yet but I found out something else. Unplug the headphones, so you're jack is just free, and music will be playing over the built-in-speaker. When you're in the home screen, and not listening to any music push a capacitive button. You'll hear a "ping" sound (or whatever you've chosen) and then you'll hear exactly the same noise for about 4 seconds as you would also hear when using the headphones! Weird...

Ok, to backup your imei download "k-tool" from market and backup.if u got a dropbox account then upload it and save to your pc.next look for "galaxy s3 toolkit v4" (by mskip) and backup your current Rom.
Now u can either download a Rom from galaxy s3 (international) development and flash that from your cwm recovery (easy) or go to samfirmware.com and register.then search for LFB or LG1(official release) stock Rom and flash it with ODIN (Google "flash with ODIN", gs 1-2-3 is identical method).just get started and read, as I said CWM flash is simple.
Try wanemlite Rom or something like that.avoid "aroma installer" for now.
PS.stay away from cyanogen mod that is only for experienced users, many ppl here semi-brick(easy recoverable) their device on aosp(cm, aokp and such) roms.
If any questions then post it here.

Again, thank you for the help. Unfortunately, I have the Canadian Telus variant (basically the US AT&T variant). Last time I heard it's still impossible to backup the IMEI? Or has the problem been solved? Seems like it since you mentioned about backing it up.
And Zun, ya if I have the phone right beside my ear (the speaker area), you can hear the hiss for a few seconds when you press the captive button and it'll go away.

Hello everyone, I hope you guys can shed some light on my problem, I would really appreciate it. I searched the forum and found a workaround for the IMEI problem that did not work for me. And I found nothing regarding the loud noise during calls. So I decided to post to get some help.
Problem 1
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000B from Brazil unlocked from the store. Three days ago I decided to update my system (2.2) to the CM10.0.0 (4.1.2). After much sweat and hassle I discovered how do it properly with the right files. So, I flashed 2.3.3 and then CM10 and it seemed to work properly until I found out my IMEI had been corrupted. I tried the solution I found but it didn't work because on step #5 I don't find the file named ".nv_data", just "nv_data.bin.md5". I tried copying just the other but in the end it doesn't change my IMEI back. I still have a generic IMEI but it is not affecting the signal of my phone, I can still make and receive calls, but I would like to get it properly working. When I flash android 2.2 it restores my IMEI.
Problem 2
My other problem is that I keep getting these really loud and intermittent scratch noises during calls after flashing CM10. Right now I am using a dutch SIM for I live in the netherlands. Maybe that is important to mention. But I had been using android 2.2 here all along with no problems. After CM10 I get these sudden short bursts of noise during my calls. The other person can barely hear it but I hear it loudly. It's really annoying. I have no idea what is causing it or how I can fix it.
Can you guys help me out with this one?!
Thank you,
Henry

Do you mean another version of the CM10? Is there antoher version of it? On android 2.2 and 2.3.3 it was working flawlessly. I don't know what happened to the calls with this noise.
On the other hand, I know the IMEI problem is because of the ROM for sure. Just don't know how to fix it.

For an experiment, you can flash a custom kernel and in the kernel configuration app you can boost the microphone output.
