Battery 'overheating'... - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My battery's telling me it's overheating.... Sometimes. It happened quite a while ago, and it's happening now. I know it isn't, because the battery is operating at 15c.... Also, it only happens with the 4800mAh extended battery, and it's ONLY happened since I updated to 2.4.4.... So, I don't know which one is causing the problem. Also, this only happens when I'm charging using a USB-wall outlet adapter.

[Q] A Different Battery Problem!

Anybody had this problem?
I've had my GS2 for nearly 3 months and all has been well. Coming from a Motorola XT720, EVERYTHING is better including the battery life.
Last week I noticed that when connecting the charger, it took a long time for the phone to register that it was connected, ie. it didn't beep, light up and show the charging icon. It was also slow to recognize that the charger had been disconnected. (The charging icon would stay on for some time after.)
I thought a re-boot would help and it threw up the big battery charging icon flashing alternately with the battery over heating icon! Even pulling the battery wouldn't stop the warning message unless it was removed for at least a couple of hours or re-booting via Home, Vol+ and Power.
Whilst all of this was happening, battery life plummeted. I normally get about 1-3% loss of battery per hour in standby but this increased to 5-10% per hour.
The phone has somehow regained its normal response to the charger being connected and disconnected but the poor battery life remains.
Its un-locked, un-rooted and running KF3:KE7:KD1
Any ideas before I do a complete reset?
I would get a new battery to start with, if you UK, 7dayshop.com have an 1800mah for only. £4.49 delivered.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I've just bought an Andida "2000"mAh battery from Mobilefun. It's only had a couple charging cycles but it's behaving exactly the same as the original battery, which confuses things!
It could be that the problem is effecting it our it's just not working at it's full potential yet.

Even the biggest best know battery manufactures cannot make a 2000mah battery to fit the S2 without needing a replacement back cover, the new Samsung 2000mah needs one.
So the Andida "2000"mAh battery , is more likely to be around 1500-1800mah
Yep, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Will probably return it and wait for the
official Samsung 2000 mAh.
Would still like to know what's going on with the sudden loss of battery life.

Since you have tried a second battery and the phone is acting the same way the fault must be with the phone, the charging socket is not loose or something?
Or maybe the phone charger is faulty, do you have a second to try?
It looks like you should try a reset before you seek refund/replacement.

Battery not charging to 100% with replace, but retail bh5x does

Hi again
I know this is a well know issue but i wanted to ask something about the batteries and this problem. For some reason when i bought my Atrix it came with the bh5x, but i bought a bh6x after a few months. The problem is that when i started flashing roms the battery stopped charging to 100% with the bh6x, in some roms it charges to 93%, sometimes to 72%, etc; but my stock battery every time charges up to 100%. I know it may sound crazy, how can batteries affect this percentage since the charge it's the same, only the mAh.
The bh6x charges up to 100% (my phones says) when i charge it with the wall charger. I'm now using the bh6x in case of i ran out of battery with the bh5x because for some reason, using the bh6x while charged with the external charger, my camera stops working, it force closes. At the beginning i thought that this could be just coincidence, but i haven't had that problem since i put the bh5x as the primary one.
For me it doesn't make sense that the stock one charges full, and the bh6x(original) doesn't. I thought that there could be some file or configuration on the phone that i've not seen, i'm not a professional in this rom stuff, but i know at least the basics.
Has someone experienced something like this?

There is a fix for that. I can't remember who did it, or what it is called, but it is in the dev. section.

Yeah, i know that there is a fix for that, but that was not the question, otherwise i would just download it over again. The intrigue here was that it's akward that my stock battery( bh5x) charges always to 100% without problems, but my replacement battery(bh6x) doesn't and when i charge with the wall charger it seems to cause problems with the camera, i just wanted to see if someone had the same problem, or even just the one in the camera....
I believe everyone got their atrix with the bh6x, don't know why mine came with bh5x...
Well, I have bh6x.
The battery was always charging to 100%
Untill last Tuesday.
I am on epinter's JellyBean, I was getting up to 30hrs of battery life. On Tuesday I dropped my phone, not a big hit but enought to cause the battery fell off. It was at around 75% at the time. Once I put it back in it showed 1%. Wipe stats, rebooting, nothing changed. Now after a full night of charging the meter shows 30% max. The battery seems to be fully charged as the batt calibration shows 4200mAh and the battery still lasts a very long time it just reports the wrong percentage.
Anyone knows what could cause it and how to fix it?

Well, i think you are in the case that upndwn4par said. For that there is a post in the developer section that is called Atrix battery fix, something like that, you can search it.
There are some other methods in another post that consisted in charging and disconnect the battery from the phone and wait for the question mark to appear in the screen, then putting it back again and let it charge for a while, after that it will show you 100%, but for me it only worked for 1 time. I think the post is called something like " The ultimate battery guide" .... i can't remember exactly the title

I also have this problem
same, i have got 2 offical battery, and 2 china, and if i change the battery, even if they are fully charged, my Atrix report wrong value....
The battery fix by jaggernaut is for Gingerbread. I am running JellyBean.
By the way: funny thing happened: I dropped the phone again, so the battery fell out abruptly again... Now it reports the percentage properly...

Wireless Charger Overheating Battery

Received my WCP-700 wireless charger and twice I have put my phone on the charger and minutes later phone is rebooting and battery temp close to 50C. I have noticed others having similar problems with other phones so I suspect it is a problem with the technology.
Anyone else having problems with the wireless charger?
If it happens again I am ebaying, it may be convenient but at least my usb charger does not cause my phone to shutdown from overheating.

I called up fazle and he says that his phone isnt as well.
I have the same one and mine doesnt overhead.
Surround electronics can mess with the charging and cause things to heat up. Also, make sure the cord isn't running parallel with charger. Check the manual to see what I mean.
Also the farther electricity has to travel, the hotter it gets. Try lining it up better.
I have zero trouble with my wireless charger, same LG wcp700 as you. And I've got a case on mine as well. You've definitely got something else going on.

Mine doesn't do that either. My suggestion is to pull it off of the charger as soon as you're at 100% and don't put it on until you're below ~10%. Magnetic fields inducing current causes heat to be released in the wires and surfaces -- it's something you can't stop if it's happening. I'm sure HTC took (some of) all the necessary steps to lessen this, but it still happens.

I wouldn't be making a habit of waiting until 10% to charge, you should get better battery life over the long term by charging before 30%
My phone becomes warm to the touch when charging, but not hot. I have left it on the charging pad while fully charged for hours and haven't had any issues with temperature.

I VERY much disagree with you -- all of the phone manuals etc. say to wait until the battery is dead until you charge. The higher the battery is when you charge the more detriment to the battery life. With modern batteries, however, it doesn't very much matter because they've been designed to be better about this and you won't get much more time out of your batteries by discharging completely before charging.

There are varying views on this, but I was told never to let a LiPo get completely depleted. Beyond all of that, I feel heat is far worse for the battery. It looks like I am not the only one with problems with the tech, others are experiencing the heat issue:

mine gets hotter than just plugged into outlet but not too bad. not like fire lol

Battery issues.

Ok, I know my phone has battery-releated issues though im trying to figure what is the source and replacing it immediately.
I'll list couple of my chekcs around it:
Having it on charging barely gives the charger the "current heat" its supposed to have with it charging, therefore - resulting in a slow paced charging.
Disconnecting it from the charging port drops the battery down to 10-50% in some times, 60-80% the other times, but there are times that it's going down just to 99% or even keeping it at 100% like it should be.
Ive checked with the charging current app and I've seen it around 200-300, and after disconnecting and reconnecting it couple of times went to around 700-800, probably the reason for the slow charge.
Now my main problem is actually the 2nd one, I dont mind if my charging speed is slow, but I want it to deliver. are those battery drops related to the charging current? my main suspictions are the trickle charge cycle, that if the charger gets 200-300 mah charge, and it calls for a trickle charge, the amounts for it arent enough to keep the phone up even at minimal use, and report a fake 100%.
I havn't tried a different cable yet since I dont own any (same for charger) but if I will get any new cable, is there any rule I should follow to know the quality of it? like slimmer/fatter ones as an example?
And how do I know its not the battery that reached its cycle cap?
Thanks in regard for anyone who contributes to this post.
Ron
Search and read, same question asked a thousand times. Replace charger, lead and battery -done.
I have already searched for it for couple of threads. I have seen that it's a procedural solution but the main thing I'm trying to eliminate from the checklist is a bad charging port and board. Since my cousin already had that problem and he sold his phone it gave me that sort of red light and I haven't come across of a way of diagnosing it "without a cost" for the parts, I'd buy the pays only if there's no possible solution to diagnose it because those parts are quite expensive here unfortunately :/
how about battery calibration?
try that, and maybe your problem because u playing with tweaks or kernel maybe?
also try, install new custom roms. and format your system data
maybe it'll works

I think its battery issue, cant say for sure, but it also dies up on around 30% now (changed to 4.3)
I own the phone since april this year, and a friend of mine told me she had similar issues and after replacing the battery, it worked out flawlessly.
Also note that my phone is plugged in the charger for a lot of time and I barely plug it off (might be an issue as well)
Okay so I've switched the cable and the app shows flawless 1amp charge.
question regarding it:
if the phone is charging flawlessly like this. Could it eliminate my flickering screen and phone hang issue? (Due to "bad charging quality" if that lesser cable? )

Battery cradle issues?

I've noticed something odd with my G5 battery "coffin". It doesn't seem to charge my battery when using the additional USB on it to power something else... Has anybody noticed? Ive only used that functionality twice, but I decided to try and power my Chromecast through it while charging my battery, and both times, the battery is completely dead the next morning.
Anyone else experience this?
it is supposed to do that, it will charge the phone first then charge the battery innside the "coffin"

Dang, that's annoying. Thought they could be used in parallel, I thought I was good since the dots on the side of the coffin were lit up. Thanks!
