Wifi Tethering Infrastructure Mode possible? - HTC Rezound

I've Googled a bit and unfortunately, am seeing that so far, the Rezound can only perform wifi tethering in ad-hoc mode, not infrastructure mode. Has there been any updates on if it can ever be possible? My device is rooted and the bootloader unlocked. Would flashing a certain rom or kernel make it possible?
Or would my only hope be to pay for the official hotspot feature by Verizon? Its a shame my Droid Charge was able to do this but not the Rezound. Oh, "fragmentation".

not 100% sure what rules are here concerning links to other sites so ill take the link down immediately if its not ok, but this thread on ppcgeeks looks promising:

If you flash one of the ics roms wireless tether beta 11 works in infrastructure mode. My kindle will now connect. Just change the profile to nexus and enable routing fix in settings

When I do that no data seems to be transferring and my computer doesn't find the hotspot. I can't figure it out.
Edit: Ive been trying it on beta 11 on GB roms. Do I need to do it on ICS? I read in another thread that that may be the problem. Just thought I would get some more opinions.

So far only in ics will it work properly

Ive used wireless tether 2.07 fine on my rezound with it rooted... however now that I have ICS i cant get wifi tether to work. Its saying that my computer is connected but my web pages arent loading... wtf?

I'm having the same problem. Worked fine with gingerbread. I switched to CleanRom 2.1 and now I can't tether my kindle.

Did you both install the latest tether beta 11 abd follow Pwned's directions above? I'm on Senseless 2.0 ICS and it works perfectly for me.

I'm on CleanRom 2.1 and wireless tether in AP mode works perfect.

I'm getting random reboots using beta 11. It'll work for 10 min then bam a reboot.

For a kindle you can download an app called zt-180 adhoc switcher. That will allow you to tether in adhoc mode. Just be sure you leave the network named AndroidTether
sent from my newly unlocked Rezound

I have zt-180 installed. That's how I got it working with gingerbread. The Android Tether network shows up but the Kindle just won't connect.

Hmm I'm puzzled then. You changed the profile to galaxy nexus? And enabled routing fix on Wi-Fi tether beta 11? And are on one of the ics roms?

I'm running CleanROM 2.1 and even tho it the EXACT same version (3.whatever beta 11) came installed, it never worked until I uninstalled and reinstalled using a downloaded apk then changed the aforementioned settings.

just tried the new beta version that scrosler included in cleanrom 2.1 and it works. Changing the settings as above, my stock kindle fire sees it (no encryption). Speed tests were very good (15 down, 7-10up).

I got wifi tether to work by installing JAC's kernel and then getting the latest build of wifi tether.

I hope that helps some what.
I'm running wireless tether 2.0.5 pre7 on a completely stock Vibrant with root and it works perfectly. I have yet to find a working version of USB or wired tether. Just use the link that was provided by the poster above or Google "Wireless tether for root users". If you find a working USB tether, please post: -)

Wireless tether 2.0.5 will run just fine on your Vibrant with the stock kernel a stock Vibrant long as its rooted. Just fyi.
All of those mentioned methods use ad-hoc and not infrastructure mode as requested by the op. I don't know of any tethering apps that will setup an infrastructure hotspot now, but I believe that the built in tethering in froyo is infrastructure, but not sure. (I'm sure tmobile will have that stripped out anyway, but maybe if cm6 ever gets to this device it will be possible)
FYI, I'm using Wireless Tether For Root Users without any modifications except rooting, using version 2.0.5-pre7 and it's working great. Way faster than barnacle.

PdaNet and EasyTether both work over USB. Unfortunately, both apps filter https unless you get the paid version. PdaNet does have a fully functional 2 week trial, though.
Sorry, I have nothing for the OP...
I thought so. I guess we will have to wait for either the dev that's over android wifi tether to implement it, cm 6.0, or for froyo.
And oh yes, froyos hotspot is infrastructure, and that is the main thing I miss about my nexus.

I second checking out the MobileAp mod. I can't post the url due to being new. This is working perfect for me. Much much faster then every other tethering I tried. [Q] Wifi Tethering on De-Sensed-ish ICS 3.5

Got this Rom running last night and I see that it is based on Cleanrom 2.1 which mentions that Wifi Tether was added.
I'm not sure if its supposed to work or was stripped on De-Sensed but whenever I try to turn it on it just grays out and I can't do anything with it. This is the wifi tethering settings in the mobile networks options... I don't see a specific app anywhere. No place for routing or the galaxy nexus options listed in the Cleanrom thread either.
Is this normal or is something wrong?

You'd need to download the wifi-tether app from code.google.com and I believe the version used in CR2.1 is 3.1 beta11. I don't know if Scott did anything else to the app or not. But grab the app, use the settings...should work..??
Keep in mind, there are settings that work good.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) profile and setup Netd seems to make WiFi tether app function great.

To the OP...Wireless Tether is not a system app. The built-in tethering does not work.

When you install it go to settings and change the device to Galaxy Nexus LTE and enable "Routing Fix".
I have heard setting up an a password for encryption will not allow this to work so using "access control" works for the time being to restrict who can access the network generated by your phone.
EDIT: THIS thread may be more help to you.

What's weird, is I can't get my xp machine to connect at all. All my other devices work just fine, but I can't figure out what's going on with my laptop and why it won't connect to wifi tether, as it connects just fine to other wireless networks.
I've tried everything too, but to no avail, any have any ideas?

[Q] roms with solid 4g hotspot

Ok so a bought a thunderbolt back in Nov but returned it cause I kept having issues with the hot spot and got the rezound which turned out to be even worse so now I am back to another thunderbolt after having tried a bionic as well. I have tried several different roms trying to get one that works well for hot spot and so far the only one that was somewhat stable(CyanogenMod 7.1.1) quit working after I put it in airplane mode and i wound up having to start over to fix the issues. So now I am running 2.11.605.5 after having downgraded from 2.11.605.9 so I have the radio and lte upgrade from the latest ota. I have looked around on the forum thread about the different roms but i havent really found any postings about how the hot spot has been working I have found a couple of roms that just flat out say that the hotspot isnt working at all and have avoided them but for the most part I havent found any that say if its stable or not. So the short of it is that I want to find a rom that is stable for hot spot use. Gotta give the bionic credit for the hot spot use. That thing was great but it has the worst screen I have seen so far on an android phone. Any help would be awesome in finding a rom that is good for this
Well is it the built in hot-spot that isn't working? If so just download Wireless Tether or Open Garden and go on tethering.
If you really do want a ROM, I'm using LiquidSmooth AOSP w/ Wireless Tether app that works great.
I've used Skyraider, BAMF 1.10 with Open Garden without any issues either.

I tried skyraider this time and i was using the stock app and wireless tether but I had not tried open garden but the stock and wireless tether were not working it was constantly dropping in and out it would stay connected according to my windows icon on my computer but i would have no access and i would get dced from games and my torrents would drop off completely. it would take a min or so for it come back on. had that problem with a couple of roms and some would just not work at all like bamf soab which i found out today has known issues with the hotspot. I will try open garden on skyraider i liked his roms when i had my dinc. thank you for the input. any other inputs would be greatly appreciated like maybe what i might do to stabilize this problem.

i have tried your recommendation and it has worked brilliantly on virus' eternity rom. So thank you for your ideas and support. I am a happy tbolt user now.
Thanks for the useful thread! I've been using the mobile hotspot recently, on stock 2.11.605.9 and it is just awful. It stops and starts, youtube HD just buffers all the time - it's basically unusable for anything except web browsing or email.
i am paying Verizon for the (dubious) pleasure of this barely-working feature.
So, I rooted, revolutionary-ed and installed WirelessTether. I did the configurations suggested here. Unfortunately, it's just as spotty as the stock mobile hotspot app. I notice no difference in performance.
Do I need to install one of the custom ROMs to see any benefit? Although I'm rooted and S-OFF, I'm still on the stock ROM.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions! :-D
PS: BTW, my LTE coverage is pretty good, and speeds on the phone itself are quite consistent and stable.
It's not a ROM issue. It's a Verizon issue. Every phone does it. I cancelled tethering because of this. Verizon doesn't seem to care that people want to tether for more than 5 mins without rebooting.

This is more of a router issues than phone issue. Try your routers website forum or google it.
From what I have read, I dont think you can open the nat when tethering from the phone

I think the issue is tethering via 4G, not from a router.
I'm frustrated as hell about not being able to tether 4G for no longer than 5 minutes at a time, after which I have to reboot my T-Bolt and my tablet.

I'm not finding "wifi router 3.1" or "wifi router 3.1 beta" in the Market anywhere. Is this an app? Just to clarify... this app will tether 4G LTE wirelessly to your device of choice for hours, correct? Thanks!
Edit: Found a link to what you're referring to in a different thread. Installed the APK, checked the box for the Wifi Fix, selected Thunderbolt, enabled access, and voila! Going on a solid hour of 4G tether with no disconnects! This seems to indeed fix whatever problem Verizon is having with the 5-minute disconnect.
For those who need it and may have missed it, here's the link for the fix:

Thats the one! Glad you found it. This topic should be stickied. Possibly the most asked questions on forums.

The tether apps are filtered from the market when accessed via Verizon, I believe.
I have used tethering quite a bit for Netflix, etc., on CM7 with the older android wifi tether. I switched from CM back to Sense just to try something different for a while and have used the stock tether app since then. I don't recall having a tether-related reboot. I'll probably switch to the new wifi tether, love the mac filtering in there.
I will say, though, that I always have to start wifi tether twice to get it to work (enable - disable - enable.) Then it's solid.
Edit: oh, and stuck.
Question: why is it that when I turn off my tablet, wifi won't reconnect without turning my phone screen on? Very strange. My tablet reconnects immediately to my home router, but it will only reconnect immediately to my phone as long as the phone screen is on. I've tried everything and can't solve it. Otherwise, 4G Hotspot works awesomely.

rom with great hotspot
while the wifi tether app with correct settings has given me success on most roms i've tried it on, i like the built-in and hacked wifi-hotspot on thunderstick full blown a lot. overall, full blown is a great rom, and the included hot spot works perfectly for me and keeps my number of installed apps lower, which i like as well. my .02 anyway.
I actually just installed MIUI Rom that came out a few days ago and that's been working fine. My problem with most things is that I either get good 4G or GPS, but not both. :/
For some reason though, any stock tether/wireless hotspot apps never work. The miui rom uses Cyanogen Mod.

These instructions should work. Just be sure that for #1, you scroll down to the SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS (4G_LTE). For some reason, I chose the Google NexusOne (I saw the word nexus and thought it was the right one) at the top of the list and didnt realize that was the wrong one. Is it a windows PC that you are trying to attach to it? Does the tether start up with any errors in the log?
You should be able to see it just like any other router in your list of available networks.
Edit: Just noticed you said it started with no errors. Hmm.
It should just show up in your available networks.
Try manually creating a connection to your ssid (forgot the exact steps to do this, but its somewhere in network settings).
Also, try changing the setup method to the other available methods (ad-hoc, netd)

I am running ICS 3.5 from Scotts, I can not get Tethering to work. I have tried everything listed. I have tried several ICS Roms and it hasnt worked on any of them. The only time it worked for me was right after I unlocked and rooted on the oem rom with barnacle. Since then it has not worked at all. Wifi isnt working either in ICS 3.5 for me. It is stuck on "turning on". Easytether (USB) is working like a charm though. However I would really like wireless tether. I am coming over to the rezound because i lost my thunderbolt. I want to make sure this phone will do all that my rooted Tbolt would before my 14 days are up... that phone was .. OMG AWSOME. If I cant get it to match up to my old Tbolt in useability, I will go back to another Tbolt.
I am thinking that tomorrow I may try learning how to deal with mainver issues and stepping down to RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1013r_3161E_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_221502_signed
Seeing if I can get it working on that, make a backup, then go clean back to an ICS build.
Any suggestions?

srivkin's instructions should work. Be sure to follow them to the T. Also, have you tried different versions of the tether app?
I thought that encryption didn't work with the tether app.
I relocked and reverted back to that RUU I mentioned in the above post this morning, after running the mainver fix. I unlocked, reflashed ra recovery, rooted, uninstalled some VZW bloat and the vzw tether blocker. installed wifi tether and it still wouldnt work, installed barnacle and it works...but it is so slow it is useless really. Easytether still works great. I already miss ICS. I will re-port a clean ICS onto it later this afternoon after ive had time to build out this base one and back up an image of it. I will repost with any progress.
BTW, I tried all of the settings you guys have mentioned and it just isnt hitting it for me, not sure whats up with that, but I will know more maybe after I put ICS back on clean and try it out.

Just got my Rezound, coming from the int1. I am vary excited to use my new 4G and abuse my unlimited data. I can't seem to get any wifi tethering working.
I am currently running RezRom 1.6 with kernal 2.6.35.13-gf1031dc (is this stock kernal).
I have tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540707 it did give the the rezound option thin the profile but had error on starting. I would post there but I am a noob and can't.
More info,
I change the profile to "Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE)"
I Set Startup-Method to "Netd(master)"
I Check Routing fix:true
All Logs show green,
But my Prime never see the SSID
Take along time to start the tether. once it does start download and upload are both 0.0. I remember on the int1 once the tethering start they would jump a kb or two
Those are the instructions for Wifi Tether if you're using one of the ICS roms. The instructions for GB roms are:
Start Application
Go to Settings
Select Routing Fix and MSS CLamping
Start Tether and Allow Root
Cleanrom 1.7.5 is also available in the archived sections of Scott's web page and is the latest update that is GB based. Hope this helps.
Well I thought I was on to something. I now can see the SSID on my prime but all it does is save the network it does not connect. I still don't see the download/upload move at all. I will download Cleanrom 1.7.5 and see what happens.

He may also need the GB patch to allow infrastructure mode.

Tried that, it's in the original post. I did the easy step 2 process and yes I uninstalled the old one.
call me stupid, but it might be verizon's network. i haven't been able to tether on my iphone, and my friend's droid seems like it doesn't tether anymore (he was able to last year). i have to rely on my friend's sprint htc evo when the school's internet is down at times.
My wife int1 still work, and she like to point this out. "So you can't get tethering to work on our new phone... oh that to bad."
I am having no luck, does anybody have any ideas?
I tried the advanced fix as well as the easy fix to no avail.
I'm using CleanROM Tapped Edition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586500
I am on stock firmware with Joel's firmware patch: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main/...mppl-patch.zip
I can see the access point but I can't get anything to connect.
I tried both the wifi_tether_v3_1-beta12RZ.apk and wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11b2-Rezound.apk.
I removed any trace of wifi tether before trying the above versions.
In settings, I tried:
HTC Rezound GB, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE), Google NexusOne
Netd (master)
router fix
(CANNOT find MSS Clamping in either version of WifiTether)
Note that in the OP has directions-- 4. Replace (existing) fw_bcm4330_apsta.bin with fw_bcm4330b2_apsta.bin in /etc/firmware
Well, there is no fw_bcm4330b2_apsta.bin or fw_bcm4330_apsta.bin. I renamed fw_bcm4330_apsta_b2.bin to fw_bcm4330_apsta.bin, that didn't work.
I pulled the fw_bcm4330_apsta.bin from each of ZIP fix files in the OP (and tried each version of wifitether on each firmware file), that didn't work.
I compared the firmware folder of the CleanROM tapped edition to BAMF Senseless Preview 2, and they appear identical.
No matter what, I always see the AP, but it won't connect.
I'm about out of ideas.
MSS Clamping was integrated into Wifi tether at some point so don't worry about that option. I'm tethering with ICS no problem and have been for quite some time. I'm not saying that everyone should, but ICS works.
I did not get tethering working on any GB rom, I did get it working on RezROM Ex 3.4, it is a ICS with Sense 3.6, running the old frameware. I still have a little lag with this rom so I am going to try Scotty's roms today.
