Opinions for best non cm7 theme-able rom? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What roms out there now are able to use themes other than cm7? And what are ppls opinions of them?
Sent from my gingermod Atrix

IMO, you can't go wrong with Nottach's Wet dream rom. He has 4 or 5 themes for it, and the rom itself has a lot of tweaks so you can personalize it to your liking Best rom around for a fully functional atrix!
I personally run his 1.3 version with the ics redux theme (I did tweak the theme a little in spots that had unreadable text)....but this rom is an excellent daily driver!
If you know how, it's pretty easy to make a decent theme in the UOT kitchen!

I second wetdream. I've been running it for a day now and it is a very very clean rom. I think it may be daily runner until more final cm9 comes along.
Alien v4 is also a good rom. It is old but it is a great take on official at&t GB, it is very stable. At my lowest times during a bad case of flashitis I curse myself for ever leaving it.
honestly, As far a blur roms go I havent ran too many I liked.
In my opinion whatever rom you run stick to stock at&t kernel. Personally I find too much flakiness when I run a third party kernel. Others have no problems though so take it for what it's worth.

I'm using darkside (same dev, different rom) its a 2.3.5 based rom, wet dream is 2.3.6. I'll probably jump to 2.3.6 eventually... You can use the wet dream themes on the darkside roms by the way if you choose to do so.
I used Aura before darkside but the dev ran out of time to make updates to that rom.

Im running gingermod #5 right now, runs great and has great battery life, i just wish i could theme it. I wonder if the wetdream themes would work on gingermod since its 2.3.6 based too

Which rom is preferred?

Which rom would be prefferable(speedy), Nero v5, Bionix Frost 2.2.1 or SweetHoney? I have tried Nero v5 and I liked the tweaks, just wondering if those two roms were faster. Thanks for responding.
The one that shall not be named.
I think best rom is ROM Hybrid SGS II JVP v. III
if you want froyo then bionix 1.3.1 with overstock kernel and kb5 modem is one of the best in my opinion. i would say suck it up and upgrade to miui but its currently not working for alot of people. me included
I have tried Nero v3, NextGen Frost, and now running DarkyRom 9.5 ported over by Tunefoo. So far the DarkyRom has proved to be the fastest of the 3.
Going to try Simple Honey next after the next version comes out this weekend.
Bionix 1.3.1 and overstock for eva! BTW If you want Avatar use stock kernel with bionix!
Try them all and pick your favorite.

Absolutely agree! The only opinion that counts is your own. Try a couple and see what you like best!
Roms
Although all ROM's have their ups and downs, My favorite rom of all time is ToxicBaby3SlimV2, anything by the Toxic gang is awesome but this one is by far the fastest one yet. With quad scores of 2400+ Its smooth as butter and super reliable for your daily rom, GPS works pretty well and it comes with a ton of different color themes for you to pick from. You can even nandroid all of them and switch from day to day to match how your feelin. Also another good rom is Revolution Rom 1.0 SGS2/AOSP (JVP 2.3.4) One of the first Gingerbread roms with AWESOME GPS! Its fast and responsive. But really just do some flashing of your own and check things out, like I said they all have their ups and downs.
+1 for Revolution Rom 1.0
I went from 2.1 to 2.2, back to 2.1 to do all the good stuff and backup my 2.1, then jumped to bionix 1.3.1, then to project V.
I feel for some reason, that bionix 1.3.1 was faster and my battery life was better than on project V, despite project V working very nicely.
Thus far, the bionix 1.3.1 was the best for my needs, but I'm still only a rom noob without much trying of other roms.
I was on Bionix 1.3.1 with Dragon Kernel for a long time and I loved every second. If you are wanting Froyo, that is definitely the one to use. Some of the Gingerbread ROMs are pretty awesome these days, and you get the added bonus of having Netflix on your phone which is pretty cool.
Hey has any of you guys tried Bionix 1.3.2 test, I saw it at
http://board.teamwhiskey.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2829
and here is the direct link for it too. https://sourceforge.net/projects/bionix ... p/download
I see that sombionix said that it is an incomplete project. But if you guys have used this ROM is it better then 1.3.1 and what is the major difference between 1.3.1 and 1.3.2. do you think that there would be any problems with this ROM?
Thanks in advance

Newest top-tier of ROMs?

i've been running bionix-v for close to a year now and since then have been out of the loop. what's the consensus top tier of roms currently, and should i update to a newer android (ICS? idk) since i am on a VERY old version (on android 2.2!)
I like cm7 nightly. Works well, gps works for me, battery is okay. Get around twenty hours. I get random battery drains though when I'm using meebo or
something
I've flash so many roms and fell in love with miui for a long time
I'm so sick of all the aggravations of things working and not working blah blah.....I just went back to bionix myself 2 days ago and I now have a new found love for everything working as it should
But everyone should play around and enjoy the differences.
bump
i found bionix not very snappy, and im stuck on froyo. surely the gingerbread/ics offers some better upgrades?
MIUI (based on 2.3.7 gingerbread), without a doubt. And to make your life easier here's a link to my guide that will take you through all the steps on getting your phone to run the custom firmware. MIUI is easily customizable, smooth, and stable. Then when you add the Glitch kernel to the mix you get a truly amazing result (Increased speed + Amazing Battery). I used to use Bionix and it was great, but MIUI offers so much more.
The pace at which the ICS ROMs are improving is pretty awesome, and definitely something to get excited about. I never really bothered with Gingerbread, everytime I tried a 2.3 ROM I ended up going back to 2.2 within a week. Currently trying the I9000 ICS port, but my fallback is usually Toxic Crazy8 with a GB theme slapped on.
2.3 has worse battery life than 2.2. The ICS roms are coming along nicely, but not really a daily yet (in my opinion). I would try out Team Toxics JCCs D9. its on rc2 and the final should be up today or tomorrow. It has great battery and is very snappy. link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360502
There is an ICS port in the making. The creator being neobuddy89. However it is in the beta stages and not something you'd want to use as a daily rom. Still you should check it out, it looks really nice and is very smooth. I'll post a link in a few...

I agree with you...its not very snappy at all...was startung to really miss miui lol until i found crazy 8 and i am loving it....hoping its the one for me lol...otherwise ill be back to miui
Bionix wasn't the snappiest, but I found that the NextGen V2 had the same theming and was much smoother. From my experience it had some stuttering issues from a lack of RAM though.
I'm interested in trying the new Phiremod as well though, I like the theming on it.

[Q] Best Rom so far? 12-29-11

i would like to be sure
Every rom Freaking sucks! The best is to Use the stock one! What im saying is that every rom has its bugs so every rom is bad.
Bionix 1.3.1 is the best Rom for me ,everything works and its smooth and fast.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925548
Bionix 1.3.1 is the most stable and time-tested but its pretty outdated.
CM7 if you want updated and decent stability (though theres that e911 issue)
The ICS Roms are very smooth and stable enough for me, ICS is amazing!
im using the ICS passion with the glitch karnel . battery sux ;/

Glitch is a PREVIEW kernel and doesn't officially support anything besides CM9.
I don't think dev was too concerned about battery life for a preview, just implementing new features.
Thanks
Damnn now im like lost, idk what to flash, i want something , something fast, and that the battery wont died quick, I tried,
Trigger + Overstock = Worked great.
Bionix + Overstock = Worked great.
Crazy8 + Immortality = Worked Great.
now idk which one to pick lol
I've tried the Passion ICS rom and it is superb but I miss the Samsung Camera app.
Is there any SGS II stable port?
If not, Im gonna download the most stable modified stock rom, I'm thinking of Bionic, correct me if Im wrong.
Bionix with overstock is quite the dream.. if flashing unstable stuff isnt your cup of tea, you can't go wrong with that combo

Dominance
Unfortunately there hasn't been a perfect 2.2.1 rom yet!
been using the lithium 360 for the past month or more. have liked it better than the generic CM series, but that's gone away now anyway. I'm liking the MIUI based setups though. Maybe it's the different perspective of dropping the Apps menu driven system like so many other interfaces still have.
Been seriously pondering loading the Passion ICS for a while, but may wait until it comes off beta.

whats better than bionix as of now?

what do you guys think is better than TW that i should try, miui?
Miui was pretty cool. Visually appealing but for me some apps didnt work and battery life sucked. I am using phiremod 2.0. It's a cm7 that in my opinion apart from bionix is the best rom I've tried I get great battery life and its really fast and reliable. I've been on it for about 3 months

If you want a good quality 2.2, check out Toxic8 or Deranged9. Both excellent ROMs with great support and outstanding battery life.
If you want the latest then ICS Passion is where it is at but make sure you are comfortable flashing ROMs, Odin and bootloaders. Oh and read, read, read.
I've been using ics passion 10.6 its great! no rom gives good battery life for me but this isn't any worse than stock 2.2 battery life
I am new to this stuff, but I flashed Zendroid a few days ago and love it. Super solid, no glitches at all yet. I have 25% battery right now after a full day's use and that never happened on stock. I love it, super clean, super smooth. I can't speak to "better" than bionix as I haven't tried that ROM yet. Just know that Zendroid is awesome.
I was on bionix 1.3.1 and was hesitant to try ics passion but the rom is smoother than I ever imagined.
Ok so I was looking at ics, and there's a ton where can get the best rom and kernels or is there a good site I can read about it?

Just look for the "ICS Passion v11" thread in the Development sub-forum. I recommend the stock kernel, only because it lags for me if I use Eugene's. Results may vary though, so you should try both and see which works best for you.

I think it really depends on the features that you're looking for. Personally, I don't really see the necessity to jump ship to a GB or ICS rom for the Vibrant just yet (if ever). Someone posted a pretty legit list on Fishman's mod noting the differences between Android versions that you should check out to see if updating is worth it for you.
+1 for bionix from me..
ICS Passion v11 is pretty sleek, but since there's no 1080p video recording I may have to revert back to Bionix.
The Vibrant is a better video recorder than my Flip- I'm not sure why they would cripple the video.
360 productions make some great miui roms. I prefer lithium. you could give those a try
I've been using bionix nextgen v2 for a long long time, and it's fantastic but I'd really like to make the jump to a GB rom.
Mainly because I can't stand the fact that my CM7 Nook Color can run apps that my Galaxy S class phone can't.
Only GB ROM I've tried so far was the first stable CM7 version, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get my GPS to work _at all_. Since I actually make use of my GPS on a fairly regular basis I went back to bionix nextgen.
Can anyone recommend GB or ICS roms that have good GPS performance (meaning they don't have that "turn off GPS once and you have to reboot to get it back" issue)? Been browsing through the roms listed in the dev forum, but I'd also like some extremely fresh personal feedback from other users here.
Thanks in advance all.

Would also like to know whether such ROM (GB with working GPS) exists...
Since my original post above I've switched to ICS Euphoria. It does have the GPS off = reboot to use it problem, but honestly leaving the GPS switched on all the time does not seem to have a serious impact on my battery life vs what I was getting before. In the end I'm fine making that tradeoff in order to be on modern firmware. ICS is _awesome_ and I don't see myself going back.

[Q] Wanting a new ROM, cant decide.

I have Eclipse 1.1 (old I know) it was great when it first came out and I flashed it. But now I need something new bc its not working as good, and I know theres better versions and other ROMs that are possibly better.
Any suggestions on which ROM to flash and why?
Depends on what you want. If you want a fully functional ROM I'd check out the latest edition of Eclipse.
Cyanogenmod 7.2 rc1 has a small amount of bugs, but is for the most part fully functional. HDMI mirroring doesn't work and that's the one and only downside to me. I still use CM7 as a "daily driver" so to speak. Lots of customization and with the hacks/mods found in this forum I get excellent signal strength, connection speeds and battery life. Wifi still sleeps when the screen's off, but with the v3 build.prop mashup it reconnects on waking within seconds every single time.
Cyanogenmod 9 alpha 3 is somewhat buggy as it's in its early alpha stages. There's no camera yet, but DZK already said there will be a fix for alpha 4. Same with aces miui. It's real slick, being on ics. I like it, but won't stay until there's a working camera and more stability. When that happens this rom will be simply amazing. Overall it's pretty sweet and at the very least, worth checking out/playing around with.....
MIUI4 will be awesome too once the bugs are sorted and fixed. As stated before- the next release will also have a working camera. MIUI is probably one of my favorites if not my favorite but right now its way too buggy for me to use. More so than cm9. Couldn't deal with the bugs Ace is hard at work bringing us more updates and when he finally gets this where he wants it MIUI will more than likely replace cm7 as my daily rom. It's a great ROM in general but I couldn't stay on miui for more than like an hour, personally.
Definitely go into each roms topic and check out the screenshots and videos if there are any. Also look for the working features and known bugs/issues. Honestly I say give them ALL a try and see what best suits you. I only really posted about the newer ones. If I remember correctly molten isn't being updated anymore after 2.3 and I keep forgetting liberty even exists, lol.......
Cyanogenmod all day
I started with Eclipse 1.3 and then went to 2.1 running scripts and about everything else with it. Then when CM9 alpha came out, I had to try it. CM9 alpha works great for me. I needed my camera, so I flashed back to CM7. When the beta version of CM9 rolls around, that's gonna be the ticket!
IMHO- CM7
I can't believe how smooth and FAST my phone is with CM7. The camera works great, very little to no lag at all with anything I have found. There's all kinds of customizations for it. I'm not running any scripts, only CM7 and SD Increase from the market. My phone is fun again and I'm not hesitant to show somebody up with a whyphone like I was before. Try it and see.
Also check out this thread for sure!!

Are you pretty good with computers, tech, etc.? If you want a fast update, just flash CM7 since it is on the same kernel as the version of Eclipse you are on. If you try to update to the latest Eclipse, you have to go through the process of using the SBF to get to stock, updating to 2.3.5 then flash the new version. Its up to you though. CM7 and Eclipse are the most stable ROMs we have at the moment until some bugs get worked out in CM9.
Thanks everyone. I am on Eclipse 2.2.1 as of right now (w/speedy script 7 and other tweaks/apps). Ill probably try CM7 in the future since its already on my sdcard.

Just remember you need to be on 2.3.4 before flashing CM7.
Man I don't know what it is but.....
I used to run Eclipse 2.1 and scripted to the 23498457890345th power maxed out turnaround wing dinger squared. I thought it was as good as it could get. But when I went to CM7, I giggled at what I "thought" I had. Hands down the way to go, until CM9
I would use cm7. Just because its stable and has the best UI in my option and has pretty good performance. or you could wait for cm9 to get more stable with a working camera and better performance.
Liberty 3
Just Rooted and Flashed for the first time.
I went with Eclipse 2.2.1 - because the HDMI support was kind of a deal breaker for me. (Netflix, FPSE, SnesEX, etc. on a big screen!) But I was wondering why none of you mentioned Liberty 3? I haven't tried anything other than Eclipse 2.2.1 so I don't have an educated opinion to share, but other than CM7 it seemed like Liberty 3 and Eclipse were the two other "stable" ROMs in the DEV section.
Is Liberty "bad" or do you guys just not use it, and why?
Also, I flashed what I *thought* was the latest build of Eclipse 2.2.1 (from the official thread) but there are only 5 pull down toggles on my notification panel - I thought there were supposed to be 7? Did I miss something?

I haven't been on eclipse in a while so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I thought there was an option in settings to set those.
I can't say for sure why nobody mentioned liberty though, it might be because it doesn't offer much compared to eclipse. Also, it was supported for maybe 2 months max while I'm pretty sure nitro is still pushing out updates for the x2(somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

I loved cm7 but the broken orientation sensor in the kernel killed it for me. I now run eclipse 2.2.1. It was a bugger to get installed. Having to wipe cache at a different point than instructions indicate. And also I have a little touch-screen delay.
