has anyone encountered problems with the long press of softkeys not working??
i haven't messed around with any hardware on my phone so i'm assuming it has something to do with software
ive only been running various versions of bionix for months now but whenever i try to hold the home button to bring up the recent apps / task manager button, i usually have to try a couple times before it recognizes what im trying to do instead of just going home
I had that problem when my soft key time out was set to low stock is 1600 ms but since you didn't mess with it..
A workaround, you could change your key layout. If you don't use search can change it to APP_SWITCH with root explorer in system/usr/keylayout/cypress-touchkey.kl

I have the sgs2 for a few months, Im very satisfied with this phone, But there is a thing I cannot live with, THE HOME BUTTON, I dont know why? but a I dont like it at all, Ive been proving some apps to avoid it, someones like button savior, swipepad and wave launcher (This one is absolutely great).
I just wanna know: is there a way to remap LONG PRESS "BACK KEY" to go to home?, just like long press menu does to go to search!. I proved BUTTONREMAPPING but it doesnt have the "long press" options. I was searching and now I know that files on /system/usr/keylayout and /system/usr/keychars setup the keys on the phone, indeed /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl shows the default capacitive buttons setup, but I dont have enough knowledge to change "LONG PRESS" options on this keys.
so:
Some of you guys know about it?
It is possible or not setup LONG PRESS BACK OR MENU KEY on SGS2?
I would also love to know how to remap those buttons. Also double-click home. I am running the simple clean room (based on stock rom)

Is there a way you can hard-coded, let say the left capacitive button to act as a home button when you long-pressed it? especially on ICS roms that for let say you want to see the recent apps(home button long-pressed) alternatively you'll just long-press the left capacitive button = profit?
My home button is being quirky nowadays(6 months owner) and I don't want to bring it to Service Center just to repair that.. The problem is not groundbreaking(not yet) but this will save me in the future and probably others will so
It's not exactly what you want, but maybe Button Savior will do for you?
I think capacitive buttons are more likely to stop working than the physical buttons. My friend has a motorola Milestone and his back button stopped working in a month. Dont know if it is a bug

Still need to use home-button I'm in CM9 right now and the home button is really ****ed-up especially when I'm multitasking and I really love how ICS implement the task-switching/killing "Recent app"

Well that's a different phone but maybe that can apply to ours. What I mean is that sometimes my home button when I long press and then released it, it double registers the pressing so it's like you pressed again the home button
I am also looking forward for a solution to this. As I also want as much as possible not to use the home button. I quite feel that somehow it is already degrading. Showing press results that are not what I specify. Like for example clicking does 2 clicks thus entering 2 directories in CWM.
Button Savior could have been perfect if the recent apps it shows is the firmware's version. It shows its built-in recent apps instead.
So I have a broken home button, not going to repair it anytime soon as I've been using Button Savior Pro along with GB MIUI fine. I only have it so the button is the home button, no menu comes up
The problem however, when I flashed CheckROM V6, when setting it so the icon is the home button the phsyical lock button doesnt work, it either takes a screen shot or does nothing
I then flashed several ICS ROMS, MIUI, Stock ect ect and the same problem
Just want to know if other users are having this problem also, I know very few will even use this app but still worth asking
Thanks Joe
Flash cm9 and then onscreen buttons
Why I didnt think of that before..
Thank you
I started this in another thread but I thought I'd drop it here in case anyone else wants to work on it as well. I didn't see another active thread so please flame if this isn't in the right place.
Being on tablet mode full time I wanted to disable the capacitive keys. They're not in the way or totally useless, I simply wanted to see if it could be done.
I've managed to disable Menu, Search and Back on mine with an older Honeycomb trick I used on the Galaxy Tab. I just now started monkeying with this on the Note and I've yet to disable the Home button without also disabling waking with power button.
Root Browse your way to "system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Place a # before the following lines (commenting them), save then reboot:
key 139 MENU
key 158 BACK
key 217 SEARCH
I've tried changing key 102 and key 172 to disable the Home key to no avail. Commenting 102 seems to have no effect and commenting out 172 disables waking with the power button.
I'm no developer but it seems to me that the Home key and the power button are somehow linked. Maybe someone that has a firmer grasp of what they're doing within the OS can give some insight?
Hey thanks again for this find.... Just a quick question.
Does this method work with any ICS ROM? Also I'm just curious which ROM you are using and want to hear your recommendation.
Thanks again

I haven't tried it on a GB ROM but I see no reason it wouldn't work there or on any ICS build. From what little knowledge I have of how this works I can't see why the key bindings would be any different from ROM to ROM, as long as it's for the Note. For all I know the same lines of code could be the same on any number of Samsung devices.
I'm currently on DAGr8s The Hybrid_RCIV and enjoying it very much. Aside from having to pop my SD card whenever I install an app it's the bee's knees.

May have to also edit some of the other key layout files. Like ffa, not entirely sure what they all do, but I have seen home key in done of the other layouts.

Just an FYI - I was able to disable all of the keys using melfas_touchkey.kl on the new CM9 Unofficial release. Power still works.

Where can I get that file and where do I put it on the phone?
Hey Guys,
My power button has become kinda un-responsive and I guess my i9100 is out of warranty already. At first I thought it was the ROM and I flashed another rom only to realise it's the same thing.
Does anyone know a on-screen power button app or such?
I saw http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151326 but it is an app, i would have to exit my current app, open another app and select power off, it's kinda lengthy .
I was wondering if there was an app like assistive touch of iOS (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UsO76BmQCJ4/Tu58i5wshhI/AAAAAAAAAF0/LnjJJR_lChw/s1600/photo+1+%282%29.PNG) which is able to add actions like power off (the ones in store seem unable to do that).
Thanks guys
Edit: Found a app that is somewhat similar to assisted touch, it creates a sidebar (like multi-window is LSJ) with all the options, I guess I'm gonna stick to that for now but would love to see if anyone has any other solution/suggestion. The app I am using is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.droid.assitant
If you shut down your device via on screen wiget, will you be able to power it back up?
I suggest just getting the phone fixed.

That's something I didn't think of, the power button works if i press it a few times so for now it's alright. I guess when I return back to my home town would fix it there then.
