[Q] Best custom / stock rom for Stability + Battery endurance? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi guys ,
as you are well aware I'm new here, and have made an account on XDA so I can share my opinion and also read yours in hope of a solution.
Anyway I'm currently running an official 2.3.6 ROM on my Ace, and have gone through just about everything the Development section has to offer, from TheMyths' ICS to unofficial CM7 Kang builds, but I'm still looking for a perfect blend of stability, battery, lag free (smooth) ROM's.... And need help deciding.
So far I've noticed that the CM7 builds seem to have the best performance (benchmarked by Quadrant standard) and works fine, however I haven't had the time to observe the battery life...
Ultimately an ICS clone would be sick, I love the style, since CM looks fugly in my opinion.
Also would like to know what kind of tweaks you guys use for your Aces' to get a little extra juice from your batteries...
Thanks

Hm....You could try and use SGS2 rom from space caker,or gingercruzt or infinity, both from nims11

Try Gingercrutz rom by Nims11. The ROM is jet speed with cool looks. Battery backup is also very good.Got 1+ day

The battery life, as reported by many users including me, tends to be rather relatively miserable.

If you want a very convincing ICS look alike, I suggest you pick out a CM7 build and download AChep's ICS theme.

I'm using GadgetCheck's V8.5 Supercharger tweaks, plus Slaid's SlaidFASTMod V2.5 (not updating to his new LagFree scripts since I experience some odd UI lags here and there (ironically)).
If you really want to save on your batteries, try setting your governor to conservative or powersave (though powersave will lag your phone to the point of 1984) and don't overclock (flash a non-OC kernel, if you want).
And check out JuiceDefender. It'll turn off radio connections when the screen is off, and I saved around 165% worth of battery life with that app. The only downside is is that it ****s up with push notifications, and I need those for my IM and email.
EDIT:
I forgot, you asked for a specific ROM.
Well, I for stability and efficient battery consumption, I recommend you just stick with stock ROM (or something based on it), since it was compiled specifically for SGA hardware. My longest relationship with a stock ROM was fla.sh's fla.sh X2.3 ROM followed by sametpoyraz's Glsmt 2.1 (I know it says Glsmt 3.0, but a download link was never provided). Both of them are considered dead projects, but that doesn't mean that the ROMs aren't half bad!
Thanks [/QUOTE]

i've had problems flashing 2.3update of that rom, have you tried the rom?

I Am useing The Infinity Rom Final And Its Great With Performace And Good With Battery Life!
Bye And Salam.
Samsung Galaxy Ace [Rooted]

Based On Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC0 ICS FINAL
Turboboast v8.5 And SlaidMOD v3
FrameWork Mod Active!
8 GB Class 10 Sd Card Ext
THAnk mE IF I HeLPED

For stability and speed, I hands down recommend ICS Final. The rom I'm using. As for battery life, you can have the best battery with ANY kind of rom. Just check out the thread on my signature ;D

Thanks for all the replies to my thread thus far... will definitely try that SetCPU... As far as Slaids scripts go however, I did once try that but found my device would have lag, that being screen tearing.

[Q] Void #echo, SpeedMod K2-18 Update3, Phenomenal 2.1, N.E.A.K 1.2x or Siyah 2.6.4?

Hello everybody, I'm opening the thread just to read opinions from you all about the kernels that are currently available.
The one I've been using is void #echo, which in my humble opinion with the combination of a tweaked deadline scheduler and a lionheart governor provides great performance, battery life and minimum lag whatsoever.
I do understand that it depends on needs which shall be used, however, I would like to know which one to you guys works smoother and provides better performance / battery life.
I always aim for performance over battery life (I didn't buy a SGSII to get poor performance )
In terms of battery life, I can get it up to 22~23 hours on battery, using WCDMA only / HSPA+ during day and enabling airplane mode during night.
Fast Dormancy disabled and deep sleep working correctly (XXKL1).
I don't like the complexity of siyah and to be good on batt you have to tweak it more with UV and thing like that ,wish is not my style to make trying/errors on my brand new 600$phone !
I tried speed mod wish is very great actually with great overall perform
void echo is the one Im trying right now ! since 2 days its feel very strong and good on battery with good performance on games without getting the phone very hot
neak is good but its more a copy/past of the overall coders over wish is good in one sense but its a bit laggy in game with lucrative mod but defenatly one of my favorite kernel out there ! Im waiting for 1.3 to let simone correct some bugs
Siyah is the tweakers' heaven. You can fine tune every last bit of your phone.
I personally love void, it feels very fast and has good battery life.
I tried NEAK for a short time and it seemed fine but quite many report lag in games(using on demand governor seems to fix it though).
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm waiting for N.E.A.K 1.3x too

as one of the posts above said siyah is the tweakers heaven..haha trust me i never used it before as i thought it was to complicated. but once you have done your reading and read other peoples posts and what they do to get the best out of the kernel you have a winner...all the rest look good i am not saying anything bad but for me from now on any rom i use siyah is coming with me due to the fact it has so many options to it and so much i can play around with i am in heaven
hope that helps...oh and on a side note i have been tempted to upgrade to a different rom but the current base i am using and with the kernel i have and the settings that i am using the only time i will actually jump ship is if one there is a stable cm9 out there by the amazing team hacksung. Two if Gokhanmoral does a siyah kernel for cm9 which i think will be when kernel sources are made available and three cause i have already my voodoo app all configured with my poweramp player to get the best sound possible i would be foolish to make the step at this moment of time...
So my advice for battery speedmod if you are not into tweaking alot with voltages and clock frequencies and if you want the best of both worlds then siyah
siyah 2.6.4.

Great feedback bro, I tried Siyah in the past but honestly when I used it I didn't know there were parameters to tweak (didn't check the REF documentation LOL).
Do you get smoother behavior / better performance / higher benchmark scores tweaking the parameters? In quadrant I get around 4604 with void.echo.
as my "personal" opinion...
since i instaled V3RTR3MA.V.4.0 rom, i've been using void#echo
couldn't ask for more its fast and stable... nothing too complicated and i could get 8186 in the quadrant benchmark... a really great kernel...
void echo.By far best kernel for common user, who doesn't want to do all kind of tweaks&stuff.By default is great. If you are into a litle tweaking, you can OC and UV without any issues.
I used it since it was released. No issues at all, battery friendly, great performance.
Trully a KISS principle follower.
My personal advice to all, avoid all roms&kernels that are heavily customized and have alot of useless "tweakes" and scripts on them. The more things on it, more chances of breaking up.
Look for simple builds,as close as it can be to stock, eye candy is not performance.
Jkay makes great themes wich you can apply to the rom.

100% agree most of the battery better and greater speed for these kernels is actually unproven and just advertising bumf .
I have used the kernels listed in the topic and in each case stock kernel has benchmarked better using multiple tests .

I agree with your opinion, and that's the reason why I use only Sammy Stock ROMs
I've flashed a number of roms and kernels in the past few months since May, best combination for me is usually a near stock rom, plus a stable kernel like Speedmod, they just work without needing any tweaking apart from custom set up that's it.
I don't generally like the number of tweaks in some roms but each to their own.
I find stock fine and fluid and stable enough without much problems.
Yeah..i get 6500+ without rawr and oc to 1600.you forget one thing,ALL other kernels have tweaked I/O scheduler enabled. Knzo says very clear in his thread.it's a way to cheat, that's why this tweak is not default on his kernel.
About rom, look for odexed.tornado2 by brotuck is one of the best around(odexed, pretty much stock, only useless apps removed from it).combined with jkay theme and coid echo...my s2 flies

Thanks for the suggestion dude! I'll take a look to it! Beside the removal of stock apps, what tweaks are included to achieve that score?
Best kernel so far for me is hardcore's speedmod.
Fast, first time I broke the 6000 barrier on Antutu benchmark without overclock. And great battery life, one full day + charging only by the end of day two, with normal use.
Normal use for me is making phone calls, surfing web and playing games sometimes, not more than 20min per "session". Turning wifi and 3g off when phone on standby. And switching to airplane mode overnight.
And yes I tried other kernels....

None.i dont flash a rom for benchmark scores.i flash it for how it works.those benchmarks cand be tricked, but whats the point?what do you preffer?a rom&kernel with high results on tests, but moves like crap, laggy,fc's with high battery drain or a phone that is snappy, smooth, fast, great battery life and works properly?

[Q] Most Stable working Rom

Everyone's got an opinion on the "Best" rom, I just wanted to see which rom the forum thinks is the most stable with everything working.
I've tried lots of them and cant decide.
Obviously, it is Wolfbreak's rom. hands down.
T.A.E.M rom is great i think its better then wolfbreak's rom
Sent from my X10i or HD2 or Milestone XT720 or Samsung Galaxy S or Samsung Galaxy S2
In my opinion, on the sum of parameters, now the best ROM is ThGo2, v10
MIUI is best...
I have found Oodie's CM ROM has been great
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384147
Battery life is good as is the stability.
for further stability, any stock se 2.3.3 rom ( locked and unlocked bootlaoder)
custom:
miui- oodies light version, also i used tripndroid rom which was pretty stable as well..u can find this one in modaco
cm7- zmods 2.3.5

ohh you're damn right. for me, that is the best of the best. REALLY THE BEST.
@deckerm, if you want a recommendation from me, try ThGo2. There is a new version, the v13, but a bootmanager kernel needs to be fixed. but there's a stable version of the rom, just look at it, and you will look happy.
but for the majority of the people here in the forum, Wolfbreak's rom is the one.
but for me, hands down. ThGo2 rom. ^^
I like EWJet, its super fast and everything is working great!

Stock rom: Wolf, ThGo2 and ... ----- stable and can be fast with custom kernel
cm rom: FXP is ****ing fast, MIUI has greate UI.
For long term stability, Wolf is the rom. T.E.A.M. is good, too. Currently using prime, no problems except the ones I create. Any rom must settle some and although our phones are X10, they can react differently to the same rom. For your poll, Wolf will probably be on top.
I totally agree!! For me Wolf's Rom gives me best stability & fastest Gingerbread Rom I tried so far!!!
Only thing I regret is not having anything to flash no more :'(
Great Rom!!!!
Sent from my X10 using Wolf's Gingerbread UB
I like TEAM.
I started to have stability problems with Wolf's rom after 1.5 mo of use w/o flashing (stuck on start-up after reboot, stuck in airplane mode). I switched over to TEAM for the last 3 mo. and no stability problems and speed is good. Then again everyone's phone reacts differently due to settings & apps, so I say try one, and if it doesn't work, try another.
MIUI Prime for me the best rom I had before. Very stable, nice and long battery life (about 3-5 days with 2G only, synch off, brightness 40%).
Oodies CM7 for me. Great battery life and smooth running.
wolf's ROM does not really give the best battery life possible.... I'm still looking for a ROM that can give best battery life.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Probably not but I don't think that any Rom can make my battery last much longer!! My battery normally lasts about a day, while heavy usage!! I Also calibrated it.
If you want your battery to last for a long time, I'd suggest to buy a larger battery, that's just my opinion.

Totaly agree im a cyanogenmod guy because i like the twaeks and extras and overall i don´t like wolfs WLAN instability for me again and again WLAN rips of deactivate its selfs and so on... additional if you using ttorrent you can forget wolfs rom also MUIU Prime because WLOD.
Needles to say that Wolfbreak and Oodie did a ****ing great job on this rom´s but i don´t like how MUIU looks like Iphone or BADA. Because why did we buy an android device? because it has to look like ab Iphone? Well...
FXP 7.2 is very stable and if ya a gamer... well the quadrant score for me with 245- 1037 with governor Interactiv was over 1300
many great games run smooth for example: Dead speace for android, Thirdblade and asphalt 5 runs great lags are possible yeah but very rare

I'm so tired...

I'm so tired...Since some months I'm looking for a rom with a good battery life and smooth, even in little games like fruit ninja or angry birds...But I havent' found nothing.
I had found some roms like perfectpeso, oxygen, dynamite rom, cyanogenmod, but due to something, I have always uninstalled them and flashed another rom and so on. Now I'm really tired of this, I want a rom which can satisfies me. So far I've tried:
-Perfectpeso: bad battery and some lags
-Oxygen: camera and microphone suck
-Dynamite: the last I've tried, it's a rom still young, so still buggy
-Cyanogenmod: too slow, I cannot even play fruit ninja smoothly
So what do I have to do? What do I have to flash to have good results?
I know ur feeling.....ive done the same......but i got the thing that stock rom is the most stable rom for ur phone.....and if u want to increase its performance......just change the kernel not the rom.......

I found Cyaongenmod with a custom Vsync of kernel to be the best Rom, as the battery lasts as long as Froyo used to run (LG gingerbread is what convinced me to Root, with its HORRIBLE battery life compared to froyo).
Cyanogenmod I find is preety battery efficient and smooth with the DJNoXD kernel (Vsync off), and I changed max_events in Build.prop to 160 and its very smooth scrolling now, and I find this tweak only works with Vsync of, as max_events is max frame rates for UI, and will always be limited to 60 frames with vsync on, as kernel > build.prop

Belive me, stock rom is the best option. But not with default kernel. I have tried every rom for months and i realize that stock is the way to go. Maybe i will change to ics when all bugs wil be fixed if there will be a stable ics rom in the feature.
it´s sad...

Man, have some faith. If you're not deving you can't complain about having a buggy phone guys.
Plus, if you looked through this here section, you'll find plenty of mods to make your phone faster.
Google TurboBoostv8.5 if you want a real speed increase for any 2.3.x rom. Also, overclock to a stable 480/729 or 480/748. Which I can almost gauruntee none of you are doing. You modded your phone, so look at tutorials, figure things out yourselves, it's a fun process Push your phone as far as it'll go.

[Q] AOSP vs Touchwiz

Hi all,
I keep reading but I don't seem to find a definite answer for this question. I read somewhere that because of i9300 processor (samsung didn't reveal the codes or sth) the performance and battery life on Custom ROM based on AOSP and CM is not as satisfactory as Stock or Touch-wiz based roms.
Is this true? I love to use CM but the battery indeed seems to drain faster. Any idea of when i9300 users might get to use solid AOSP or CM based ROMs?
Thanks mates!
I am curious about this too. It seems that AOSP ROMS will always be imperfect as long as the Exynos codes arent released.

I have messed around with a few ROMS (mainly sammy based one's) and using a SAMMY ROM with a new launcher is a strong base.
Why not start by finding a good sammy based ROM (i'm using Viking ROM although may switch to HyperLight) get a nice setup, then you can simply backup and mess with ASOP & CM yourself knowing you have a rock solid alternative to fall back on.
You can make up your own mind then ^^

okay. So i do not need any kernel and tweaks for excellent battery life is it?
tried so often cm9&cm10, lately slimbean.
was AOSP fan on my desire, but not on the s3 (yet)
none of them made me stick to AOSP for more than 1week...
too many "bugs" - minor things who annoyed me like: **** camera&video (unstable), battery life, calling bugs (low voice volume) etc
ive to admit that slimbean + siyah kernel beats everything, the battery life is rly nice (nearly liek sammy roms). siyah kernel helps alot concerning the battery life on AOSP!
still ive to use a sammy rom cuz of stability and reliability.
id look forward to a fully working AOSP rom, hopefully soon.

Cm10 is rock stable and has better battery life than sammy. (For me) but camera has some problems. Just try it. You can always revert it to sammy

What good is a ROM that is stable (as in doesn't crash) but ISN'T fully functional (as in has issues w/ hardware) ?
I want a ROM that is both stable and fully functional, even if it isn't the benchmark champion.
For me, the stock ROMs offer the best of the 2 worlds: they are stable and functional.
Yeah, let the flame start, but I am yet to see an AOKP/AOSP/CM ROM that doesn't have a single issue with hardware.
So, stock ROMs for me are the winner.
I use NOVA Launcher Prime, BTW, but the TouchWiz that came with today's stock JB (France, XEF) is extremely fast and as customizable as Nova Launcher.

There is miui rom that offers sammy+miui experience. I think it's called rayglobe, but it's based on 4.0.4 so it is never as smooth as jb

[Q] How stable is JB by nAa?

Hi everyone.
I'm using the latest stable MiniCM7 rom. I'm a big fan of speed and stability. I tried MiniCM9 and I felt it very slow. I'd like to know how fast and stable is the MiniCM10. Should I keep my ginger?
I repeat. I'm a big fan of speed and stability.
Thank you very much.

MiniCM10, don't go there and stay with ginger (Gingersony v06 is the best of all in all categories, battery life very good, you just have to flash a led fix and it's ok). Why? because it's almost the same as minicm9 but worse in audio, it has buggy low audio ( like 40% volume of an ginger rom ), and the only thing good in it is the battery life, almost the same as a ginger rom but i don't know for sure who's the best.
You're Welcome .
If i was helpful press Thanks .

It's a matter of opinion, and MiniCM10 is very good, but lower versions of android just seem to work better on our phones. If you like the way your phone works, stick with MiniCM7, but by all means, give MiniCM10 a try, even if it's just for a day. If you're not happy, just roll back to MiniCM7.
i m using jb by naa for nearly 3 days and my verdict is
it is pretty good
but it has got a bug in dual touch and all of the above the low sound quality.
rolling back to mini cm7 today

Thanks for all your replys.
I think ill have my GB untill change my x10 mini pro. Maybe CM9/10 is fast on bigger hardware. I've only tested CM9, but surely CM10 is heavier.
As says SmG67, lower versions of android seems to work faster.

It's not fast, you just think it is xD. try putting that rom with 480mhz max/19mhz min and see the results comparing to a GB rom with those options as well, you will see that the difference is More than just Big xD, and don't forget that more Mhz means more battery drain, and the sound is Super low.

Ok we can say you have right. But for JB version are made more apps. And The SlimRoms is really fast, certainly faster than normal nAa's JB rom

Same opinion as me, totaly agree with you mate . Stay Ginger
I've tried GingerSony. I love the ICS launcher and transitions, without leaving ginger. I don't know why i've got some reboot. Will try it deeply later.
Looking for speed, now I'm tying froyobread v023f. It's "new" to me cause I started using custom roms with paul's and slade's ginger roms.
Let's see what happens
It's better to set these options:
enable swap ,128 MB ,swapiness 40
Disabled ZRAM
clock CPU @ 600 Max - 120 Min smartass gonover
Disable scrolling cache
Use some tweaks

You mean..swap? or compcache?
I've tested a lot the standard swap (previously partition creation on sd, as linux way) and it really slowed my device. I've read a lot about this on other forum. I'm gonna try the other options you say.
Thanks for answering

Compcache compresses ram memory for up to 20% more memory at the cost of CPU performance, device will become less responsible & slow
Swap speed depends to your sdcard class (write/read speed) the fastest sdcard is still slower than RAM
Less ram means less multi tasking & launcher redraws
Swap is necessary for our device because of tiny ram memory
